Been here a many times and the food is always wonderful. Escargot, fried shrimp, and the prime rib are favorites.

Ashamed to see anything less than a perfect 5 star rating. I'm impartial because I don't know the owner and I'm not one to boost someone's image just because they asked (nobody's ever done so for me). This place is a local place, small, relaxed, but done to the 9's with linens and professional uniformed staff. They were busy but knew how to roll with it like the pro's they are. Everyone including the customers were cheerful and kind. Food was impressive and the price was more than fair. Being in business for myself, I know the value of a good customer and I also know while you can't please everyone, people always zero in on the negative and read those... Ok...so I'm a little confused. Good reviews yet missed the mark. I'll start with the good. Our waitress Sarah was great! The rolls were good, especially the herbed rolls. The ranch dressing on the salad was good yet a tad salty. My wife ordered the fried shrimp and she had no complaints. Now for the bad. The prices were pretty high for the quality of food. I ordered the 10 oz rib eye, ordered it medium. Came to me as a very done medium well pretty close to well done. I showed the waitress and she took it back and brought me another well done steak. For $24 when you order medium I think you should get medium, on the first try, unless it's a cooking school. I sucked it up and just decided to eat the second steak but the steak was so salty, more salty than any I had ever had. It was tender enough but not juicy, a product of the over cooking most likely. The salad was mediocre and looked like lettuce jazzed up with sliced tomato. the baked potato was anemic, sparse toppings and almost warm. Even the decor was low class. Certainly not upscale. In the end the steak was taken off the bill, thanks for that, the chef or manager apologized, but I could never recommend bee hive. Too much for too little. read more

Not as good as I hoped. For the price, we were hoping for an amazing steak with great sides. Baked potato or French fries were the only options for a $30 steak. Food was on point! The steak was cooked to perfect temp and melted in your mouth, the asparagus was crisp but not stringy. The pulled pork stuffed avocado had wonderful flavor and texture that all blended magnificently. The bread was a bit disappointing, tasted like cheap store bought rolls that where kinda tough. So the food gets five stars let me tell you why I deducted three of them. First off if you are going to charge fine dining steakhouse prices I will review you like a fine dining restaurant & upon sitting down my silverware was streaky like the water in the dishwasher and the linen they where using to "polish" hadn't been changed in a while, that's kinda gross. Next I asked if I could substitute asparagus for for the side of a potato in which the server responded yes but you still have to pay FULL price for the side of asparagus... News flash that's not a substitution I should also mention the asparagus and the potato are the same price on the menu?!?! It doesn't seem like satisfaction of the guest is the main concern here. My appetizer came out in appropriate time, but then I must have waited another 40 min for my main dish my professional opinion would say the server forgot to put my food in since the tables next to me who sat down after me got their food first. When my food got there the potato showed up once I was nearly done so I just got a to-go box. Also the decor of this place is tired and boring with no flow, what's up with the cubicle sections? Head down the hall and to the other room and you're in the bar which is also pretty boring in decor. It's like they found an office, painted the walls put a bunch of mismatch Texas stuff on the walls and called it a day. Drywall for as far as the eye can see with those cheap office ceiling tiles just painted & cheap looking chairs and tables. It was kind of a disappointing "experience". Beehive if you are going to try to pull off fine dining don't half ass it. Make sure your decor, service, and details (I.E. Silverware, linens, pricing) are all on point. read more

The beehive is a miss for me. First, it is pretty pricy for what they serve. The burger tastes funky (if you're looking for burgers try heff's or wholly cow instead) and there are no refills on drinks, really? Where are we Europe? I used to go to this place once a week. I spent an average of $7000 a year at this place. I always ate at the bar. One year ago they stopped serving food at the bar on weekends. Now I go there once every couple of months and eat in the dining room. Service in the bar is excellent. Service in the dining room is Awful! Tonight I order Prime Rib. After thirty minutes the server informed us that they were out of prime rib and asked us what we wanted instead. My wife said just the check for our wine. Don't go here on the weekend. Only go during the week when you can eat at bar. read more

I came here by myself around prime dinner time. The place was busy but not enough that i had to wait (when I left there was a wait time around 7pm). The restaurant had a weird layout and a few times i saw near collisions of patrons and food. The service was poor, since I was by myself the waiter tended to larger tables before worrying about me. I ordered the house salad which was nice, wish there was a description though because it had blue cheese on it and I hate blue cheese, would have asked that they removed that. I ordered the 6oz filet with steamed veggies. The steak was cooked perfectly and was very tender and delicious. The veggies were pathetic, looked like something out of a frozen veggie bag, but thats what i get for ordering substitute for the baked potato. Try eating healthy in West Texas, its not easy :) Overall I would say this place is good and the price wasnt too high, just dont expect great service if you are alone and there are regulars in your section. read more

The hostesses were HORRIBLE! The worst I have ever experienced. However the food was amazing, as always and the wait staff was top notch. So 1 star, 0 if I could for the hostesses and 5 stars for food and wait staff, so had to do 3. The hostesses were very rude, very unprofessional and clearly have no idea how to do their job. And even when they sat us, commenced to literally throw the menus around to all 4 places. I called her out on it and she said that's just how she does it but I don't believe it for a minute because she was already mad at me. I had been told 30-40 minute wait and after 45 minutes I inquired and was told another 10-15 minutes then after nearly 1 1/2 hours I inquired again where all 3 hostesses all started making excuses at once. We had been driving all day, en route for Lubbock, and really needed a stiff drink after a great steak dinner at Lyte's. The bartender was a total amateur, ignored us and when we finally got our order in for a single glass of whiskey on the rocks , he could hardly handle it because a couple of girls were sitting at the bar and he was too distracted by them. My wife had the steak and I had the pork chops which are stuffed with andouille sausage and a breading and cheese mixture all wrapped with a piece of bacon! We had rolls and salad with our meal. YUM! I had the 14oz ribeye. I ordered medium to receive a rare steak. I returned the steak to receive the same steak that was cut in half, over cooked on the outside and raw center. The baked sweet potato was the original potato moved off the plate and returned cold. Worst meal I have had in abilene Texas in the 37 years here. We have been going to both restaurants for many years. The service at the Abilene restaurant is awful. Let me clarify...not the servers, the hostesses. They are rude. Nothing else to say, they are simply rude. We have been in several times over the years and first they ran off my parents by keeping that rude bartender met for years. They now have three of the rudest hostesses I have ever seen. And this is not based on ONE experience, this is based on several. I have actually never written a review like this and I am doing so now in hopes that the owners see this and do something about those girls. They are truly horrible. Well, I read great reviews for chicken fried chicken but they only serve it for lunch. Then I asked for the calamari steak but they haven't served it for at least a month. Since I didn't want a steak for dinner the waitress recommended the salmon or shrimp but I couldn't convince myself that seafood was the best choice in Abilene, Texas. Instead of walking out I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with fries, other than the fries being way-too seasoned, my dinner was surprisingly good. The burger was cooked perfectly and very tasty! Tonight I had one of the worst experiences at the Beehive restaurant that I have ever had at any restaurant anywhere in the world I have been. When I cam in the restaurant was relatively empty and no one was at the bar. I told the hostess we were going to have dinner at the bar. We sat at the bar and were served immediately with drinks. The bartender gave us menus and we decided on an appetizer to start of fried vegetables. We finished our drinks and the restaurant became a bit busier. The bartenders (3) continued to ignore us and only paid attention to the people coming in after us. I wanted to order an appetizer and another drink. for the next 50 minutes the bartender continued to walk past us like we were invisible. I waited for about another 15 minutes and finally I yelled to get her attention. She acted like there was nothing wrong. I asked her if it would be better if we just got a table since we were not able to get any service from her. She said that it was so busy now that there were no tables and she would not serve us anything to eat at the bar. I told her that the hostess was informed that we were eating at the bar and even she (the bartender) gave us menus. Now I have waited over an hour, unable to get another drink and refused further service of any type. I guess that all of these people coming in after us were much more important than we were. The service was beyond bad and your bartenders were beyond rude. I will never return to the Beehive restaurant and I will continue to post this on every social media I can find to warn people of the horrible restaurant you have. This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had at any restaurant. I can't believe this is the first time it has ever happened to anyone. Your bartenders and wait staff should be ashamed of themselves. read more

In the midst of our 816 mile ride through Texas from El Paso to Texarkana, we found this amazing gem in Abilene. Staggering through the door on our 2nd day of driving, my husband and I, and our 3 kids were looking to chow. And of course since we were in Texas, we were hunkering for a slab of beef. Thanks to fellow Yelpers, we experienced one of the best steaks we've had. Although initially told 20 minute wait, we were seated within 5. Had to try the fried combo of veggies. The batter was awesome and I was quite surprised how tasty fried cauliflower was. A couple of steaks, a cheeseburger, and sides with extra plates for the younger ones and it was plenty of food for the 5 of us. Our waiter KC was fantastic and attentive. I really can't say enough positive things about the establishment. Excellent food, excellent drinks, excellent service, wonderful deserts, great location and atmosphere. The service was exceptional ( thank you Eli) the owner worked the crowd to make sure everyone was happy. Now the meat. Generous portion ( I had the 14 oz ribeye). It tasted unbelievably good, grilled over mesquite. Melt in your mouth, cut like butter, and a hell of a value. Yes, the steaks are expensive, but they are worth every penny. The shrimp and chicken fried steak are equally as good and easier on the pocket book. The beehive is a special place to go - not an every night stop. I will definately return! read more
