Hamilton is an excellent waiter! My husband and I were on a night out without our baby tonight, and Hamilton hardly allowed our glasses to get below half-filled. There was some miscommunication in the kitchen, but he was prompt to take care of us, and was very kind. And like the service, the food was incredible as well! Just had dinner at the Beehive bar with great service from Mary and Christen. Excellent filet with toppings of bernaise sauce with 100% crab meat on the side. My husband and so went to celebrate our pre-deployment dinner there earlier this week. He described it as "the best last meal" he has ever had. I'm not a big steak eater because it is usually too tough, but I ordered a fillet with a side of baked sweet potatoes and I had to talk myself out of licking my plate. The service was good, hence two stars instead of one. Our waitress was Felicity and she was helpful when explaining the menu. We had heard great things about this place, especially the steaks. We both ordered medium rare and when our steaks arrived it was easy to tell they were over cooked. They were more medium/medium well and charred on the outside. Very disappointing. We told Felicity who explained the cooks are probably tired and offered to return them to the kitchen. Thanks for the offer and poor excuse. Excellent downtown environment. The restaurant has it all...atmosphere, great drinks, great food and attentive service. Try the Long Island Iced Tea and chicken fried steak. This restaurant has a great American immigration story that all political sides could appreciate and respect (but no politics here)! Solid steakhouse with great story and ambiance. Not sure it was up to the Texas Monthly's "best country Steakhouse" label but in fairness I had the chicken fried steak with a side of fried shrimp. Each bite of the steak had proper amount of breaking and there was no breading that didn't have steak. Good price as well. My husband, parents, and I had a terrible experience at this restaurant when we were visiting Abilene this weekend. We arrived a couple minutes after 9 along with another party when the restaurant closes at 10. We were seated, and ordered, and then the problems began. The waitress had to come back to our table numerous times to tell us they had run out of things, which she never knew until after we'd ordered them. They were out of the bottle of wine we ordered, of the prime rib, which was the special, of one kind of fish (subbed another). Some of the food was good, some wasn't: the freied vegetable appetizer was greasy and limp, the french fries were overcooked, the steaks were a bit overdone. The really upsetting part was when we finished dinner and asked for two coffees and a slice of cheesecake. It was only 10:05 but the waitress told us the kitchen was closed and we couldn't have coffee and dessert. Thi after we'd ordered $140 of food and drinks and arrived well before they closed. My mom and I, who have both worked in restaurants, couldn't believe it. After we expressef our disbelief, the waitress said, "Fine, I'll just make you some coffee," which was I think the rudest single interaction I've had in a restaurant. She wound up bringing us a slice of cheesecake as well, and assuring us how much trouble it was to convince her manager to let her get it for us. What kind of manager doesn't want you to serve a slice of cake out of the fridge to a 4-top thay's spent a lot of money, when it's not even late? There was a big table next to us that was still in the middle of eating their entrees and the waitress dropped their checks. The bottom line is this place is a terrible value--if you can get what you want it might be ok, but if you inconvenience the staff's after work plans by five minutes be ready to be turned down and made to feel like you're the asshole. read more

WOW. Wow is all I can say about this place. On a recent business trip to Abilene, I was told by locals that I absolutely had to try the Beehive restaurant. I went to my trusty Yelp app and read some reviews, and was excited about heading that way for the night. First, the atmosphere is great. It's a fantastic steakhouse with none of the pretentiousness that is often quite prevalent in those types of establishments. The servers are friendly and the place is really relaxed. You can feel comfortable in jeans, or in a suit right after work. The server we had was fantastic. I wish I could remember his name, but he was friendly and prompt, without being pushy. He was well informed on the specials and the menu, and never let our water glasses get empty! Based on the recommendations online, I decided to have the Beef Oscar, and I substituted asparagus for the potato, and got a salad with it. Ok so here we go for the meal: The salad: FRESH, fresh fresh. Delicious, phenomenal. The bleu cheese dressing is to die for, and they put in extra bleu cheese crumbles. The bread: WOW! Fresh baked, delicious. The asparagus: VERY fresh, well seasoned (it wasn't overpowering on the seasoning-it let the flavor of the vegetable shine through), and grilled to perfection. And the best part of the whole meal-the Beef Oscar. Ok. I'm not a fan of bearnaise sauce as a general rule. But I am not totally against it so I had them put it on the side. So, before I dug into that, I tried the steak. Wow. WOW. WOW. Best steak I've ever eaten-and I've eaten at the great steakhouses of the US and the state of TX. The meat was cooked perfectly, was tender, and was seasoned perfectly. I didn't even need the sauce. But I wanted to try it in it's full glory so I tried the sauce. WOW. It was again fantastic. My coworker and I both agreed that it was one of the best we'd tried-and we don't like those types of sauces. The crab meat was fresh and delicious without any fishy flavor. The combo of steak, sauce and crab was fantastic, and the meat by itself was fantastic. Really, all I can say is WOW-that's redundant, but honestly. I can't say one negative thing about this place. Another favorite place in town. It is rather pricey, so it's not a once a week visit. Food is top notch and service is phenomenal. I always order their New York Strip and not once have I had a bad experience. One time my wife ordered the salmon, and surprisingly it came out undercooked. They immediately took it back and fixed it. While we were waiting for it to come back, there must have been 3 individuals stop by to apologize for it. When a place is busy, these things do happen, I appreciate it when owners/managers own up to it and recognize the issue instead of blowing it off. Any way, Beehive is a Top Notch establishment. As this is Abilene, be prepared to wait quite a while on the weekends to be seated. They have a bar area where you can order drinks and appetizers while you wait for your table. read more

Service is always good here and ive been 3 times and all 3 times didnt like my food. I always order a salmon Cesar salad...i was charged $25 for a piece of overcooked fish and lettus! Never again, so last time i ordered the lunch special...teriyaki chicken and rice....so gross. I sent it back cause my chicken was pink. Came back cooked correctly but just tasted plain bad. Tasted like heb marinated chicken thighs and rice a roni. Didnt eat it and they didnt make me pay so thats why i gave 2 stars. Personally, this is my favorite steak house in Abilene. The steak is tender, juicy, and fairly prices. The burgers and chicken fried steak are tasty as well. I would suggest the Philadelphia Sandwich at lunch. It is a hoagie with juicy rib eye cut thin, accompanied with bell peppers, onions, and cheese. It is not your ordinary Philly Cheesesteak. We asked the host to express to the manager about the man who was becoming belligerent off of wine shouting, cursing and speaking about child molestation and absolutely nothing was done. Not a place you'd take your mother, or friends for that matter. I used to think there was a sense of decorum in this little town but was sadly mistaken here in this restaurant. I've only eaten here once and it was at least two months ago, so forgive me if I'm short on detail. I was a bit surprised at the "downtown" location and on-street parking, but here in ABI that's not too big a deal. The dining area is kind of tight, but not uncomfortably so. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and good at what they do. I had the Beef Oscar, and it was so good that I don't even remember what what my wife and son had....but I know they really enjoyed it. I ordered my filet medium-rare, and it was cooked perfectly. If memory serves, we had fried veggies as an appetizer, and they were very nicely done. Overall I'd say it's tough to beat for a family friendly place that serves food that's a step above the norm. Out of town and looking for a good place to eat that was casual. Found this place on Yelp and it didn't disappoint. We were seated right away and the waiter was prompt on asking for our drink orders. Food came out in a timely manner and was delicious! I ordered the grilled chicken with a sweet potato, soup and side of vegetable medley. For someone who is always Health conscious when eating out I would recommend this place. Everything tasted fresh and didn't seem to be made in butter. Wife and I love to go to Beehive when in town visiting family. We have yet to be disappointed with the food or the service. Invariably the owner is on duty and comes by our table to be sure everything is good. I usually get a steak, Recently had the 10 oz rib eye Oscar, which by the way was at LEAST a 10 oz. steak. A quality cut of meat with a very generous crab topping. Best steak I'd had in a long time, maybe since the last time we were at the Beehive. If you can talk yourself into ordering something other than one of the great steaks, the grilled salmon is fantastic. A crispy edge on the fish without being overcooked. It makes for a dilemma - surf or turf? Looking forward to going again next time we are in Abilene. read more
