What a great experience at this Charlotte institution! BnB is the perfect spot for a well-cooked steak, comfort food sides, and a taste of Charlotte history at our oldest steakhouse. We had a reservation for a Monday dinner on my husband's birthday, which happened to also be 1/2 priced wine day (glasses or bottles up to $40). Maybe it was because of the affordable wine or the World Cup on TV, but the place was surprisingly bumpin'. We came with our toddler, and the staff were super friendly with her. She really enjoyed snacking on the complimentary crackers and cheese spread. My husband and I decided to share the dinner special for 2, which is a 10 oz filet mignon, 2 lobster tails, and 4 sides for $178. A delicious splurge! For our sides, we chose a Caesar salad, cheesy fried potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes, and balsamic brussels sprouts. The steak was so tender and savory. Absolutely loved it. Definitely one of the best steaks I've had in the city! After our meal, our server brought a complimentary dessert, a layered mousse cake, served in a martini cake with a candle to celebrate my husband's birthday. Beef 'N Bottle is a true Charlotte staple! I absolutely love the classic ambiance of the space, completely decked out with Hollywood star photos, dark wood, and white tablecloths. The staff is always incredibly friendly and welcoming. This spot is highly popular, so I definitely recommend making a reservation in advance! You really can't go wrong with any of the food options here. They pay immense attention to the finer details, down to all of their delicious homemade salad dressings. The homemade cheese and crackers they bring out to start your meal may sound simple, but it sets a wonderfully unique tone for the rest of your night. The steaks are always cooked to absolute perfection. The filet medallions are easily my favorite because they come served with three different, delicious toppings. For our anniversary my wife and I gave BnB a try. Victor was a great waiter/server! We were seated in a back area that was separated from the main dining area. Tables were too close; and you couldn't help but overhear everyone's conversations. Finally they turned on some music that slightly helped. Next time we'll make a reservation for the main dining area. We had the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were giant and delicious. The homemade cocktail sauce was a bit strong (too much horseradish and too much in the serving). I had the ribeye, and I'll be honest, it was just alright. It was cooked as ordered (medium rare) and had a light seasoning, but as a previous reviewer mentioned was grizzly and fatty, but the searing fat didn't add to the steaks flavor. The steak fries and creamed spinach were delicious. My wife had the salmon, red potatoes, and Brussels sprout. She said they were all delicious, but the salmon could have been larger (for the price). This is one of our favorite places to dine for special occasions. We went to beef and bottle to celebrate our birthdays. The orders are always accurate, and the food is prepared to perfection. The hostess and weight staff are always very pleasant. The restaurant is dimly lit and the tables close. However, the noise volume is low so you're able to carry on conversations at your table. I started with the seared yellowfin tuna with cucumber, wasabi, and soy sauce. We go out for sushi. I understand that the beef and bottle is primarily a steak restaurant however they serve the best seared yellowfin tuna I've ever had in my entire life!!! I always order the steak medallions. I ordered them medium with red wine butter per the waiters recommendation. They were Excellent. The medallions came with two sides so I ordered the balsamic glazed, brussels sprouts and the onion rings. The brussels sprouts are so good and the onion rings were large with just the right amount of breading. Please make a reservation in advance. Went for a birthday and this spot was the perfect place for it. Unassuming from the outside you realize it's because their money goes towards their staff and the food. Our waitress was very attentive, informative, and nice. When I ordered the wrong level of steak, they were quick to take it back and cook it a bit longer for me, even though it was 100% my fault. Catering to romantic hearts as well as business travelers, it can be hard to see inside the restaurant because they keep it dimly lit, but once you put the food in your mouth, you won't care what it looks like. Made a reservation for our anniversary and stated it was our anniversary on the reservation. We got caught in traffic and I called ahead to say we were running 5 minutes late, was that okay. She made a point on the phone to say "well there's a reservation at 7:10 behind you". We arrive and walk in the door at 6:05. The place is not packed on a Thursday night, plenty of seating and you know where they sat us for our anniversary? By the bathroom and the kitchen. The worst table in the restaurant. The waiter took 10 minutes after we're seated to ask us for drinks. There was only one water glass on the table and the waiter didn't bother to look at the reservation bc he asked "are we celebrating anything?" And just like the universes perfect timing they bussed a booth across from us and placed a "reserved" sign on the table. The food was mid at best. Only thing I would come back for is the cheese spread which I asked to buy and found they don't even make it in house. Brussels were over dressed and cold. My husbands potato wasn't hot enough to melt the cold butter they gave us. Sea bass portions were huge but had no flavor and needed a pan sauce not tarter sauce (gross). Choice Cut Ribeye (4/5): Decent steak but it was too fatty. The fat also didn't translate into the big, beefy flavor I was hoping for. Balsamic Glazed Brussel Sprouts (4/5): Slightly undercooked compared to most brussel sprout dishes I've had. I liked the texture but would've loved some more of the glaze. A Charlotte classic... assuredly a storied past. This isn't The Capital Grille, so don't expect that. The ambiance is reminiscent of a Wisconsin supper club if a steakhouse. For a Tuesday night, I was amazed the place was packed (no reservations until 830p). The service was good, pleasant, and could have come by with water a bit more. The meat was a hit, but the rest was either disappointing or terrible. The famous salad was the former, and the Brussel Sprouts a huge failure. The mashed potatoes seemed like they'd been made over the weekend and kept warm (they'd gotten quite sticky and thick). Just not a win at all. They key lime pie was a pleasant surprise. Finally got around to trying this Charlotte staple! Went on a Wednesday evening and it was totally packed. Loved the wall art, lower lighting, and classic vibe. Side note: I love anywhere that has their own matchbooks! To drink, my date had an old fashioned and I had a dirty martini. Both cocktails were perfectly made, and the bleu cheese olives were great. To eat, we started with the escargot. I've had it before, my date had not. He was so surprised that it was as good as it was. Perfectly buttery and melt-in-your-mouth. The bread that accompanied it was wonderful too. For entrees, he had the ribeye with a Caesar and loaded baked potato. I had the filet medallions, one with the horseradish crust and the other with the red wine butter. On the side, I had a Caesar and broccoli. My filet medallions were cooked a perfect medium rare and was some of the best steak I've had. The horseradish was strong - which was to be expected, but keep that in mind! The red wine butter was absolutely delicious. Broccoli was exactly how I like it, steamed, soft, and lightly buttered. Caesar was good too, but the steak was definitely the star. It's been around a long time and is super popular. This is where you get your clean traditional style steak dinner. Prices are affordable, service is warm and consistent. The star is the shrimp cocktail for me. It is the BEST, hottest most flavorful cocktail sauce in the city. Their steaks are also phenomenal! The food was amazing as always. My husband got the chopped steak and was suddenly acting like a food critic on TV -- "fabulous" was the official ruling. I got the shrimp cocktail with the sinus-clearing cocktail sauce that could probably reboot your respiratory system, but somehow it's still absolutely delicious every time. Our waitress/bartender B was awesome and apparently moonlights as a mixologist magician. I had the Easy Street -- vodka and elderberry liqueur -- and after two sips I was ready to move into the booth permanently. Super refreshing. The service was immaculate. I believe the waitress said they been in the same building since 1978. I had the 12 oz ribeye, creamed spinach and baked potato. My wife had the filet and sea bass that was on special. Not only was the ribeye a superb cut and cooked to absolute perfection, the flavor was amazing. I don't know if it was the quality of the beef or the aging or the fact they've been service steaks in that building since 1978 but it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. We went on a Saturday and excited to try it out. Very disappointing. We were jammed into a back room. It was so loud we could barely hold a conversation. The worst part is that the room smelled unclean. and dirty. The condensation from the A/C unit dripped on our guests during dinner. Everything but the steak was amazing. Sadly, since this is a steakhouse, I can't make up too many stars for the stellar service, delicious sides and appetizers, and great old fashioned. He said he was the bartender as well and the old fashioned's were spot on! I ordered the Filet/Sea Bass special with the traditional salad and their potato cheese cake things. But started out with a shrimp cocktail with house made cocktail sauce with LOTS of horseradish. Yum!!!! I like it when it clears your sinuses, and it really did. The salad was served as a plate of lettuce, another plate with salad fixin's (olives, onions, peppers, radish, etc.) and your house-made dressing of choice. The salad was fresh and delicious. The dinner is where things fell apart. The Sea Bass was good, but it wasn't that melt-in-your-mouth-like-buttah which I've had on occasion. It was a nice piece of fish but it was slightly over, not to the point of it being ruined, but to the point of not being an excellent compliment to the steak. The Filet was overcooked. I ordered medium rare and it was medium in the center but that was like 2 bites. The rest was more medium well and it ate like a piece of meat flavored bubbalicious, where you chew and chew and chew and it just doesn't want to go down. Since it was a business dinner, I didn't pull out my Elite Badge and go into Karen mode. I just finished up and said I was full and it was good. Maybe the larger steak (10 oz) would have been cooked better than the smaller steak in the combo (6 oz). The others at the dinner enjoyed their meals and their appetizers as well. I forgot what they ordered, but 2 out of 3 were satisfied. I'd probably give it another try if I needed to go to a "nice" dinner, but I've had better food throughout the Charlotte area. read more

Beware if you are dinning with children. We had a 4:00 PM reservation on Saturday, December 6, and were genuinely excited to finally visit after hearing so many wonderful things about the food and ambiance. We were the second group to arrive. The first group--who did not have a reservation--was immediately seated in the main dining room. When it was our turn, we requested a booth but were told that all booths were reserved. The manager quickly informed us that a table had already been assigned for our party in the back room, with little openness to considering alternatives. We were then seated in the back, and for nearly 30 minutes, ours was the only table occupied there. It was difficult not to wonder whether we were placed in the back because we were dining with two young children, especially since we had specifically requested to be seated in the main dining room upon arrival. When we raised this concern, the manager assured us it had nothing to do with the kids and that all booths--and even all tables--were reserved. However, the walk-in party of three was seated in the main room without hesitation, which I unfortunately forgot to point out during our conversation with him. Despite the emphasis on "pre-assigned" tables, the situation still felt inconsistent and no flexibility. We left around 5:30 PM, and there were still open booths and tables available in the main dining room. We truly wanted to love Beef & Bottle. Our server was wonderful, and none of this reflects on him. The food was okay, though we personally felt it was slightly overpriced for the quality. Ultimately, the way the seating situation was handled overshadowed the experience, and we do not plan to return. I also emailed the owner about my issue and got no response. My friend and I were so excited to finally try Beef 'n Bottle -- we had been looking forward to it for weeks. The atmosphere was cozy and old-school in the best way, and the food definitely lived up to the hype. We were seated about 10 minutes after our reservation with our server Victor, which was fine, but the pacing throughout the night was a little off. Drinks took 15-20 minutes to arrive, and appetizers another 30. That said, everything we ate was fantastic. The French onion soup was absolutely to die for, and my 10oz filet mignon was hands down the best steak I've ever had -- cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. Unfortunately, the experience took a disappointing turn toward the end. Despite being at our table for just over an hour and 15 minutes, we were told -- not once, but three times -- that our time was up and they needed the table for a reservation. Mind you we still had full glasses of wine, and food still on our plates. We felt rushed and it really soured what had been a wonderful meal. Amazing food, but the pressure to vacate the table made the overall experience feel much less special. Not sure I'd go back unless they rethink how they handle reservations and timing. read more

The chair could not be scooted up under the table because the pedestal was in the way so had to sit too far from the table or turn sideways to get closer to the food. The prices have increased by about 20%. The food, a $57 ribeye, was luke warm when it arrived and we had to chop the salad vegetables ourselves. If I want to chop my salad veggies myself I would just eat at home. Ordered a sweet potato for my side, it was overcooked so bad it seemed charred. They did not bring any toppings. Half the table was done eating before anyone came back to check on us. I asked for the toppings. They brought half a stick of cold hard butter that wouldn't even melt because the potato was cold. I'm being generous with a 2 star rating. The restaurant was warm and muggy. Everyone was pretty uncomfortable. That will be the last visit for us. read more

I will start by saying that this is my steakhouse of choice in Charlotte and always has been. It has been around since 1958 and hasn't changed a bit. This was my grandpa's absolute favorite and he's a native Charlottean. There's the old school steakhouse vibe with just the highest quality food. Service has been top-tier every time I go, and I've had different servers each time. I highly recommend a reservation, which you have to call in for, well in advance if there's a specific time you're looking to go. You'll get a 2 hour table block and you won't feel rushed by any means. My recommendations: the Cajun crab dip is phenomenal and so is the shrimp cocktail (they make in-house cocktail sauce with a kick - lots of horseradish). The surf and turf combo with filet and lobster was delicious, but the prime rib is the best I've had. There is no shortage of flavor, to where you really don't even need au-jus or the horseradish sauce. The blue cheese wedge salad was delectable and such a large serving. As a Charlotte native I've been eating at Beef & Bottle on special occasions for over 30 years. While I realize many American restaurant and dining traditions may have changed during that time, B&B markets itself as a traditional, old-school American steakhouse, so I fully expect basic standards of service etiquette. Dined there with 5 friends Saturday night May 16 to celebrate a couple of very big birthdays. I don't and can't typically just drop $200 for dinner on a daily (or even weekly) basis, so this dinner and the occasion were very special. Atmosphere and food were excellent, as always, but towards the end and before there was even dessert, everything became rushed. Plates, glasses, etc. were cleared from the table, and to-go boxes in a plastic bag were delivered and sat directly in front of my plate while I was still eating my $69 filet. That was an ugly and unprofessional finish to what was an otherwise enjoyable experience and ended the evening on a sour note for me. I felt like I was in TGI Fridays. It was thoughtless, rude, and definitely not old-school table service etiquette. I expect better from a local institution like Beef and Bottle. read more
