After deciding to have a shirt made for my daughter's wedding, with great trepidation, I searched the Internet for a custom shirt maker in Salt Lake City. Face it, Utah may have great skiing and outdoor activity, but it isn't known for sartorial splendor. I found Beckett & Robb and warily made an appointment with Curtis. My concerns had no basis in reality. This was as professional an experience as when I had a suit made on Savile Row. Curtis knows his stuff and took time to answer all my concerns. So how often have you tried to buy a suit with the jacket fitting, but the pants were off or vice versa. For most males, they can buy off the rack do a few adjustments and be ready to go. Then you have people like me that are in that perennial gray area between a 40R and a 40S, where the short is too short, but the regular is just a tad too long. Where the waist on the pants fits, but the pant legs are too tight or the pockets flare out massively because there is no adjustment made for wider hips. Enter Beckett & Robb. Made to measure from head to toe. I came to know of this place because my classmate's brother is the head guy in the downtown SLC location. Let me tell you this, Tanner knows his stuff. I know my way around a suit fairly well, but what Tanner knows if far and beyond my knowledge. I was a little hesitant at first because I didn't think they'd be able to cut my suit just right, but thankfully I was wrong. I ordered a black suit for a wedding. The price beat what Nordstrom and other retailers were offering for similar suits, but the biggest selling point is that it was designed specifically for me. Once the suit was ready (5-6 weeks later, don't expect a quick turn around time), I went in for a trial fitting where any final adjustments could be made. I sort of freaked out when the pants didn't fit because I thought it couldn't be fixed. I go back a week after alterations and they fit amazing. The suit looks great. The price, in my opinion was very reasonable, and the style of suit I got was something I wasn't able to find anywhere else. Best thing yet, when you're ready for a new suit, they have all your measurements so all you have to do is pick out your fabric and style and you're all set, unless you either gained or lost a lot of weight. read more

Let me be blunt. If you go anywhere else for a suit, you're doing it wrong. Curtis Newkirk has customer service down to an art. I'll come back to this shortly. I walked into Beckett & Robb last September while looking for a well made wedding suit. They were welcoming and clearly knowledgable. I'm an old punk rock kid that's generally more at home in a t-shirt rather than formal or business attire, but Curtis has changed this for me. After being told at numerous places that I'm too big to pull of modern styles, Curtis dialed in a custom cut that works for me. It's slimming and comfortable. So comfortable in fact, that I'm finding more reasons to dress. Since this initial suit was made in October, I have had another suit, two jackets, three pairs of trousers, and a tuxedo made. Curtis made some subtle adjustments to my measurements and now we have it dialed in. I cannot tell you the compliments I've received. It's amazing to feel so sophisticated and so comfortable at the same time. Now back to Curtis and his customer service. When I first met Curtis, I told him that keeping me up to date and informed on my custom orders was very important to me. Well, clearly it's important to him too. On one order, he called me from his holiday in New Zealand to update me on the date of completion. I had to tell him to relax. He is always checking in after formal events to see how things went. Additionally, he's a great asset when deciding on a "punk rock" look comprised of separates and you're just not sure if you can pull off. Bottom line, the quality of Beckett & Robb attire is fantastic. But in this day and age, customer service is king, and Curtis Newkirk deserves the crown. The only words I can think to describe Curtis are "consummate professional." If you are interested in working with an expert who exudes genuine passion for his craft and has the patience and communication skills to get you into the best suit you've ever worn, then this is your shop. These guys rushed a suit for my recent wedding and pulled it all off without a hitch. I've honestly never loved wearing a suit as much as I love this one. It's fit, but also moves very naturally with my body. Other tailors I've used in the past might get the cut right but I feel like I'm in a straitjacket when all is said and done. I randomly walked into the SLC store a couple of weeks ago & met Curtis. I needed a shirt and Curtis helped me choose the fabric & the options such as collar design, cuff design, etc... He really listened to my preferences and provided great ideas. He is extremely knowledgable and wants your shopping experience to be amazing. It truly was one of my best shopping experiences. This place is top notch. My boyfriend was in need of a suit and he decided that he might as well go all out and get a really nice suit so he doesn't have to buy another one for a long time. He went in for a fitting with Dustin and the experience was fantastic! Dustin listened to what my boyfriend was looking for and made suggestions, all while letting him make the final call. This is the place to go if you want to fully customize your suit down to the type of fabric and lining! The suit takes time to be made of course but they keep you in the know and when it's ready, you go in for another fitting to make sure everything is just right. I worked in finance in New York and London for eight years where I came to appreciate what a good suit looks like. First and foremost, it is about the fit. I am writing to express my heartfelt thanks after picking up my two suits . . . they are wonderful pieces of work. I'm not a fashion hound, but I like collecting 'pieces' and I realized no amount of altering would bring my aging wardrobe up to date. I learned very quickly that the single most important element of a suit is its fit (regardless of brand, material, or color). I have a large neck compounded by horrible posture. So department stores assume I'm a big fat guy when I buy shirts off the rack, even though I'm not. So I started looking for custom shirts for my wedding, shirts that would fit without making me look like I was wearing hand-me-downs. But I'm also a poor teacher. Enter Beckett & Robb. They had options for all budgets. A lot of options. Between the books (yes, plural) of materials and patterns, and the choices of collars and cuffs, it could get overwhelming. That is where Curtis comes in. He was so helpful in navigating all the different options. He also took lots of measurements and photos to ensure that the shirt fit perfectly. And on top of all this, he went above and beyond when a clerical mistake almost caused my shirt to not make it in time for my wedding. He fixed the mistake and got the shirt here the day before I got married. This was hands down the best customer service experience I have ever had, and the shirts I ordered are amazing. I am so hapy with my B&R suit ! I have never been happy with any of the suits I have had in the past, and I reached a point that I was determined to have a suit that fit me right. As a smaller person it is apparently impossible to get a suit off the rack that looks right, even after extensive adjustments. Even when they  "fit"  they don't actually look good. Even custom made suits can be a challenge because you have to be able to communicate the look you want and you don't know if they are going to be able to make it look how you want. After a lot of thought and looking around, I decided to take a shot on Beckett and Robb. I am picky about my fashion and was apprehensive about them being able to come up with something that I really liked, I mean enough to justify over $1,000 on a suit. When I went to try my suit on I assumed beforehand that we would need to make adjustments and I was so worried I wasn't going to be happy with it....but I was so happy with it and it felt perfect...no adjustments were needed. The fit is excellent and the fabric looks amazing. When I walked into their shop I saw my suit laid out on the counter, but I assumed it was someone else's because I thought it looked too nice to be what I paid for. Anyway, even after having my suit for months I am so happy with it. I get many many comments on my suit and how nice it looks on me. I like this, but more importantly I am happy with it and I feel good in it. It was a big purchase for me, relative to my budget, but I feel it was worth every penny.
