We stumbled in for a late bite on a quiet winter carnival weekend and there were only a handful of patrons, mostly locals sitting at the bar. The bartender (and our server) Edward was friendly and kept an eye on us and made sure we had what we needed. The food is solidly average pub fare, not bad and perfectly serviceable, but it shouldn't be your primary objective if you're a foodie hunter like me. But on a main drag littered mostly with mediocre bar-restaurants charging tourist prices for tourist indifference, I'll take "just fine" as a win. I'm not much of a drinker but my husband liked his can of Copper Legend lager so much that he ordered another one to go. The location is conveniently central especially if you're staying on Canada St. or doing activities at the lake.

We do things that American way here. Anyhow, a couple Caesar salads either grilled chicken later, we exit, satisfied not only by our food but by the atmosphere. For this is, indeed, a log structure, or one created to make you think it's one. The salads are serviceable, chopped into 4" strips and piled high with cheese, croutons, and dressing. The game heads on the wall stare down at us forlornly. The blackboard touts a special that reads, "Blu balls. We finish our meals and shove off, food inside us, prepared for the next four hours.

We ordered a couple of rice platters: chicken kabob, and the chicken + lamb mix, and both are heartily portioned, with a salad, and a heap of marinated jalapeños that my husband requested for a side since we are both spicy people. The kabobs are fragrant, and the rice slightly over-seasoned, edging toward flavor packet territory, but that didn't stop us from devouring both platters with zero complaints and zero leftovers. Is it my favorite NYC halal cart level good? No. But still quite tasty, filling, and generously sized. Excellent hot sauce too - not some weaksauce. I appreciate that the fresh squeezed plain lemonade comes in a huge tub and is just water and lemon - not the sugar bomb you typically get. Sugar is available for self-administration, or, if you insist, an artificial flavored syrup can be added (bubblegum flavored lemonade? Hmm I don't know...but I won't judge.)
