At this point people who arrived after us have now left. I ordered the grilled chicken Alfredo. The chicken clearly came from a can. It was beige, dry and tasted literally like it was from a can. I could tell the waitress didn't even want to put it down in front of me. I have never not eaten a dish before, and I have never complained about my food. I try to be easy going and understanding but this was just an insane experience. It's a tourist trap, don't fall for it!

We both accompanied the mains with a glass of red wine (one of the Hout-Plaisance and one of the Pessac Leognan). For desert we tried the carrot cake and the peanut butter pie. The carrot cake was good but the peanut butter pie was heavenly. In all a very well prepared dinner. However, we expected more creativity from the chef compared to other meals we have enjoyed in the region. Pricing was on the high side.

Near the bar there are stuffed animals doing inappropriate things like the raccoon holding a can of beer and a cigarette. When I sat down in the dining area, I took one look at the giant oven and knew we had to order a pizza again for dinner even though we had Kay's Pizza the night before. The medium size pizza with pepperoni and sausage looked normal enough but it was an exceptionally good pizza. Nice thin, crispy crust. Not too cheesy. Remarkably, we could not finish the pizza so we boxed the rest and took it home. Our server was really nice and very helpful. The music by the Saratoga String Band was wonderful, too. They could play anything including a nice rockabilly cover by the Stray Cats. There's even an upstairs gift shop which offered a remarkable array of items including pottery, handbags and snacks. This was a fun place to visit. The staff is great and so are the food and drinks.

The scallop dish I ordered came with six scallops that were a good size and also came with some gnocci, a delicious and unique sauce, and an unusual lobster with veggie type of ceviche salad accoutrement. I have the sense that the menu changes regularly here. The chef/owner came out and greeted us after the meal to ask how everything was and we could honestly respond that it was our best meal of the week. Subsequently we tried to sample many items from their desert menu and again Bastard did not disappoint. Surprisingly the "S'Mores," a more adult take on the kid's classic, was one of our favorites.
