I was looking for something a little different when I came across this restaurant, and the reviews immediately caught my attention. I was dining alone and sat at the counter, where I could watch the team prepare each meal. You are essentially sitting right in the kitchen, with only the counter separating you from the chefs and staff. It made the entire experience much more interesting and gave me a real appreciation for the effort that goes into every dish. I started with the lumpia, which I loved. The sauce was absolutely delicious. For dinner, I had the scallops with gnocchi, and the food was excellent. My server, whom I believe was named Tristan, was also outstanding. He was always available when needed but never hovered. The service was perfectly balanced. I was there for a little over an hour, and not once did I see anyone in the kitchen standing around. It was a fast-paced, hardworking environment, and everyone was completely focused on preparing and serving the food. At most restaurants, all of this work happens behind closed doors. Being able to watch the preparation gave me an even greater appreciation for my meal and the people who made it. This is definitely a restaurant you should experience for yourself. We had a great meal here with a large party of 12. They do not have a kid's menu but our kids still enjoyed along with pretty much everyone in our group. Our waiter was super attentive and even though it took some time for the food to come out, I think given the quality of everything we ate, it was worth it. I got the raspberry mint mojito cocktail which was delicious and I pinched a sip or two of kid's lemonade made from fresh lemons, perfect level of sweetness. We tried the sweet potato pakoras and lumpia and the trio of house made dips (we liked the green mint-e one best). Everything was tasty, including the sauces that came up with them. Our kids shared the ramen which they split into two large bowls that didn't even look like a split dish given how much it was. My wife got the spare ribs which melted off the bones and had great flavor. The scallop dish I ordered came with six scallops that were a good size and also came with some gnocci, a delicious and unique sauce, and an unusual lobster with veggie type of ceviche salad accoutrement. I have the sense that the menu changes regularly here. The chef/owner came out and greeted us after the meal to ask how everything was and we could honestly respond that it was our best meal of the week. Subsequently we tried to sample many items from their desert menu and again Bastard did not disappoint. Surprisingly the "S'Mores," a more adult take on the kid's classic, was one of our favorites. Given the unique take on a variety of globally inspired dishes and great attention to detail, I would love to try Bastard again the next time I'm in the area. read more

We had an incredible meal here during Downtown Glens Falls Restaurant Week 2026! We sat at the counter and love watching owner, Shannon Hart-Hume RULE the kitchen while her husband Philip Hume mixes magic cocktails -- definitely sit at the bar if you can. The open kitchen makes the whole experience so fun, and you will feel the passion from everyone working there... We started with the lumpia, which was simple and delicious, with a dipping sauce that had the perfect spicy kick. For entrees, hubby had his favorite, short ribs with frenched onion and I had my fav, Pad Thai -- both were bursting with flavor and beautifully balanced. Dessert was Asian crème brûlée, which was creamy, light, and a perfect finish. Our cocktails hand made by Phil were delicious, the food was outstanding, and the atmosphere they have created is warm, upbeat, and genuine. Every dish felt thoughtfully made, and the staff there truly seems happy to be doing what they do and told us so. They love working with Shannon and Phil. Bastard was recommended by a friend of mine several times and I finally got there when friends were visiting from out of town. I loved everything that I tasted and ordered. These folks know what they're doing. Korean wings were spicy as advertised, but hit the mark on crunch, savoriness and just the right level of sweetness. I could have made a meal out of these, but I was nice and shared 'em. We also had a Mediterranean dip sampler that was outstanding. I then had a fabulous salad with Thai-inspired mango shrimp. Others at the table had steak, homemade pappardelle pasta and a version of a wedge salad. Rave reviews all around. Dessert? We almost declined. Instead, we all shared a piece of the gigantic, insanely good slice of baklava cheesecake. Our server was the bomb. Wish I could remember her name. We moved into the area a few months ago and have been meaning to get here and now wish we had come sooner . We sat at the kitchen bar and had fun getting to know the owners of this gem . The only dish that is not photographed is the one we were most excited about and ate so fast was the pasta bolognese. This great restaurant has a really cool vibe, a great staff, and the chef and kitchen staff are really passionate about their food. I love the kitchen bar where you can sit and watch the chef and kitchen. Staff create the magic that they serve! The dishes are wonderfully presented and delicious! The portion sizes are great. We opted for the Ramen and the Pad Thai, both absolutely delicious and so good that I finished my Ramen, which was a lot and ended up eating a third of my wife's Pad Thai. So so good! The chef's was fantastic, she came over twice to make sure we were happy and satisfied. We are from out of state, but will definitely return when we travel to the area again. This place was unexpectedly fantastic. We were just looking for a good local spot that wasn't an overpriced tourist mill or mediocre place without any interesting menu options. What we found was a very memorable dining experience across multiple genres and with serious attention to detail. The Korean wings were outstanding, perfect I'd say, for my tastes. The seasonal crawfish were incredible! Seasoned by a chef who has clearly spent a lot of time in NOLA, kind of like the shrimp at Mr. B's, if you know NOLA spots. They absolutely nailed it. Wedge salad was delectable with smoked HB eggs, and laying on some kind of delicious Mediterranean blend of chickpeas(?)). The Bao was solid, we had the chicken confit version. The Pad Thai was delicious, but maybe the least authentic in the assortment. But if it was the only thing I ordered I would have been completely satisfied. The waitstaff was over the top accommodating and personable, and we left somewhat stunned by this happenstance experience. We will be back! read more

We were a party 9 on a Monday night at 6:30pm. Made reservation through Google. It's a small restaurant but really cute with a open kitchen. Our server Ashley was great as she was the only server. The menu consist of Italian, Mediterranean and Asian. We tried to order different dishes to try everything. The cherry rib was the favorite app. The sauce in the korean wings definitely needs tweaking. The buns and lupia were a no. Entrees, the short rib and eggplant was the favorite. Korean seafood pancake was too thick so was kind of burnt. Wasn't crazy about the ham and bbq sauce in Korean chicken sandwich.. too much going on.. the ramen was definitely a no.. again too much going on in the soup and the pork was shredded... I think all the Asian dishes just need to be tweaked. We will definitely be back to try other dishes. read more

We come to Glens Falls every summer, and every year we go looking for a restaurant where we can have a proper night out without the children. Previous years have been fine but largely disappointing. This year, Bastard won hands down. Having dinner here felt like eating at a good friend's house -- but a friend who really knows how to welcome you, entertain you, and cook unassumingly great food. Start with Sheila out front. She's welcoming, observant, and attentive, making sure you're having a great evening without ever intruding on it. Then there's Brendan, our waiter, who knows his stuff and watches from a distance -- appearing right at the moment you were starting to think another drink would be good. And then the open kitchen, with the husband-and-wife team running the show. He made me a perfect Manhattan while she calmly kept the kitchen ticking along with the rest of the skilled staff. We had the beet and parsnip salad, which was excellent, followed by the cherry ribs (a recommendation we're glad we took) and the jambalaya special. Everything was well portioned and seasoned to perfection. We'll be recommending this place to everyone we talk to while we're here. You'd be silly not to have dinner there read more

On Friday we were out and about and needed to forage, so we at random ended up at The Bastard Restobar ( https://www.bastardrestobar.com/ ) because they list Lumpia on their menu. It is a small place, not far off of Bay St near the circle in Glens Falls. It has an open kitchen so you can watch them cooking. Everything was really delicious! It was also hot, and fresh. And, the portions were huge. My wife had a fried rice and I had a Lo Mien. Since then, we have been using our left overs as sides to a protein. Tonight we finished it up, making a total of FIVE plates that looked just like this in addition to our 2 original meals. Talk about huge portions! Opened in the former Dizzy Chicken space in Glens Falls, Bastard Restobar is a casual locally owned restaurant serving lunch and dinner. They feature an everchanging menu offering a variety of dishes with a mix of different cuisines from around the world such as Italian, Asian, Mediterranean, & American foods. Some menu offerings include ramen bowls, pasta dishes, salads, soup, cioppino, crispy Korean chicken sandwich, housemade dips with pita chips, Korean pancakes, and special dessert. I believe the name of this place is related to being creative in the kitchen, mixing up and bastardizing popular dishes to suit tastes. The place features bar counter seating (11 chairs) with an open kitchen and a long row of adjacent table seating along the opposite wall. You can watch the team of chefs in action in the kitchen making your food and served directly to you. I stopped by Bastard Restobar for dinner recently. The owner greeted me and I decided to sit up at the counter with a great view of the busy kitchen. I was given a three page menu to look at and given some water. I decided on the Baked Lobster Gnocchi & Cheese ($17 plus tax) and Lumpia ($9 plus tax). I watched my food being made from my seat with the pasta dish being placed in the glass oven, then taken out, breadcrumbs added, then placed back in the oven. The lumpia was deep fried over at another station. The food was served very hot, small plate portions. This was just enough food for me since I had a really big lunch earlier on. The gnocchis (6) were very soft with a dense dough topped with a creamy sauce, small pieces of lobster meat and topped with breadcrumbs. The lumpias were very hot, crispy fried filled with ground meat, topped with black sesame seeds and served with a zesty red dipping sauce. The staff and chefs asked me how the food was during my dinner visit. I passed on more food and got the check which was $27.82 with tax and before tip. There was a QR code on the check which allows for online payment through Square. Overall, I really enjoyed the two choices I ordered here. My only regret was that I wasn't more hungry and would've ordered more food. I really wanted to try their ramen bowl (looked like a good size) and, fermented tea salad, I would definitely stop by again for dinner. read more

Tasteless except for the salt. Menus states serving size as 5. I received 2 cut into 5 pieces. Also ordered Fettuccine bolognese for $32. For that price I expected enough for 4 people. I didn't & thank goodness. It was greasy. I've never experienced greasy pasta before but I'm telling you it was greasy and tasteless. Next time I'll go to Massie's. Excellent service We had appetizers drinks and dinners all well timed with a brief break in between each. We were asked at appropriate times by the server how things were and if we needed anything. My experience at Bastard Restobar was underwhelming. We arrived at 6 pm and our orders were submitted at 6:19 pm. We did not receive our appetizer until a full 40 minutes later. We noticed that two tables who arrived after us were served before us. We finally received our entrees at 7:23 (a full 1 hour and 23 minutes from the time we arrived). Now, I'm all for relaxing and eating but how did 2 parties (one with 2 people and the other with 6) who arrived after us get their food before we did? The chef was killing it but everyone else was in sloth mode. At the end of the day the Tandoori chicken was dry and overcooked and the pad thai dishes were salty. I will not be returning. Maybe my experience was a one-off but I'm just reporting what I experienced. read more

I had the vegetarian ramen (with egg) tonight, and it was so tasty and full of lovely things (and too many good noodles for my poor belly) that I ate it ALL--which was more than I ever should eat at one time. We had shared my husband's Chef's Choice of appetizers first--and the Chef had 4 great choices of fresh, hand-made delicacies--so we'd already taken the edge off our hunger. Then came hubs' second appetizer-as-entre, a calamari dish that he devoured with glee, and my big bowl of ramen. OMG. So now I'm stuffed, and a little miffed to find my own Brooklyn ramen haunts upstaged by this little place Upstate... To my shame (and delight), we also ordered dessert. It nearly made me cry to leave one poor marshmallow of my Summores behind, but my husband had prudently left room for the whole big slice of Baklavah Cheesecake. If you sit at the bar, it's free entertainment; you can watch the husband-and-wife team who own the place as they do their complicated dance from worktable to stove and cutting-board to oven, crafting a fascinating variety of goodies, while the young dishwasher banishes spent crockery and the sous-chef quietly adds dabs of artistry to a dessert in the corner. Meanwhile, back in the restaurant proper, the new kid tops off everybody's water, while the waitress works the entire place with efficiency and good cheer. What a team! Seriously, the place was great. The only drawback is their lack of a liquor license (coupled with NY's silly rule that you can't carry in a bottle of wine), but that's in the city's (glacially-paced) works--so soooommmme daaay... But there are plenty of places in town you can find later, to get an after-dinner cocktail, and you really shouldn't miss Bastard Restobar because of that. read more

Its clear details matter to the owners, chef, and bartender, who are right there before you (in an open concept kitchen) executing their vision with humble intension. The dishes bring flavors and cuisine from around the world. We had the lobster gnocchi (Italian), bao buns (Chinese), lumpia (Filipino), and kare rice bowl (Japanese). It was all fantastic - just perfect for our night out celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary! Regarding the details, it went beyond the food to things like creative and custom drink glasses, green and healthy plants throughout the restaurant, and cool art work. What an amazing place to dine. From the moment we walked in and were greeted by half of the staff, to the time we left, and was thanked by the entire staff it was a joy to be there. The food was absolutely incredible, the bao buns were so flavorful, and the kick of heat was the perfect addition. I've had ramen all over Japan, and their ramen stands toe to toe with the best I've had. The open kitchen is super fun to watch these culinary experts craft amazing dishes.
