What can I say about BeaverTails? I had heard about them for awhile, and we had one close enough to us that we could walk there. The kids picked out 3 different ones (all featuring chocolate). Then complained there was too much chocolate. They did really enjoy them. I will note that we went on a busy night and their choice of who to run the food out to waiting patrons was perhaps not the best. With a cluster of 20-30 people waiting for food, she barely made it out and said the name (maybe within earshot of 4-5 people) and then would walk it back in. So when preparing my trip to Toronto, I watched a bunch of "things to do in Toronto" YouTube videos lol. One of the videos mentioned this place so I thought it would be worth a try. I ordered a cinnamon sugar Beavertail and poutine (had poutine in general for the first time a few days ago and this time I was really craving for it). I saw a guy open a bag of frozen fries.....ehh off to a bad start, but still had some hope. I tried the Beavertail first.....to me it seemed like it was a churro who had seen better days lol. Pretty tasty and basic at the same time. For the poutine here.....it was a sad poutine. Some parts were legit cold (not lukewarm) and it tasted as if I could make this with the right store-bought ingredients lol. I've had a much better version elsewhere. Don't order poutine here. The souvenir shop attached to it goes to show who they really are attracting lol. In all my years coming to Canada, I can't believe it took me this long to have one of these Canadian staples. This particular place is nestled near Queens Quay and was busy when I got there. Having a beavertail can go many different ways but I chose to keep it classy for my first run. A simple fry of dough with sugar and cinnamon and it was on for me. I ordered a scoop of what I think was Vanilla gelato on top of it and that was perfection right there. It's like a churro back home but less crunchy and more of it. The texture of the dough was a little thin and it was very sweet which made it impossible for me to eat a full one, especially when I was drinking coffee and not water. However, it was still pretty good. I liked the texture a lot, just wish it wasn't quite as sweet. I loved the chewy dough though. The prices are pretty standard for what you are ordering. It was super cute inside, although a little small. Came by for a beavertail the other day and it made me smile reminding me of my childhood. Staff was super sweet and friendly. Beavertail was freshly made and had a lot of sugar. Beaver Tails. Quite the name, really. Don't you think. Beaver Tails are one of my fave things about Ottawa. I first tried the location at the Byward Market about 10 years ago and have been back many times since. I've also had them in good old Niagara Falls ON and in Toronto. This particular location makes them perfectly well and deliciously, however their business hours are extremely limited, and they seem to be completely closed in winter, so for that reason they score 4 instead of the usual 5 I give to these amazing delights. Did it live up to the hype? You damn sure it did. It was a cold tiring day, and I was so full from eating at the rec room, but this beavertail was a must. I saw somewhere that you can't leave Canada without trying Beavertails, so here I was with my family early evening on a weekday. This is located right by the harbor off of Queens Quay West and York Street, open daily 12:00p-8:00p. We got the Avalanche (C$6.86) and Killaloe Sunrise (C$5.53). My kids decided to get ice cream instead, much to my dismay (I lost my chance to try different pastry flavors...but the ice cream was good too). The Killaloe was just the original (cinnamon and sugar) with a lemon chunk to squeeze on it, and the Avalanche had Skor cheesecake on top. I initially regretted my choice of the Killaloe, but it was actually kind of refreshing with the lemon juice on it. The Avalanche was good, obviously more flavorful and richer than the Killaloe. On one hand, it may just be a flat fried pastry with various toppings, but it doesn't change the fact that it is a Canadian-based chain, and this location makes it even better because we ate outside by the water as the temperature was cooling down. read more

Amazing delicious pastry to eat on the go while walking along the water!! I visited Beavertails today to grab a pastry during my walk. I got the Killaloe Sunrise flavour which includes cinnamon, sugar, and fresh lemon juice. I ordered through Ritual and it was ready in 10 minutes. They had a table set up out front where they were talking walk-up orders and also bringing the orders out. Social distancing was in place and they even cleaned the credit card machine after each customer! The beaver tail itself was soooo delicious. It came with a lemon wedge and I squeezed the lemon juice on top of the hot pastry and it was divine. A must when visiting Toronto! It's a tiny little place on the water but it is well known in the city! They make pastry shaped like, you guessed it, a beaver tail! The pastry is a yummy dough and then you have the option of putting what type of toppings you want on it! For us we got two beaver tails and then put two different types of toppings on each. Our first one had their peanut butter and Reece's pieces on it with chocolate drizzle while the other half was cookies n cream! For the other one we wanted half Nutella and bananas and then the other half cinnamon sugar but they messed up and gave us a full Nutella banana but I was totally okay with it! They close at 8pm so if you don't eat an early dinner I suggest going here for a midday snack! What is a Beavertail? Only one of greatest desserts ever! It's basically a doughnut in the shape of a beavers tail, only each one is made hot and fresh to order with your choice of topping. I of course couldn't decide on which one to try so the nice gentleman behind the counter offered to give me a half and half tail. I ended up going with half Oreo and half chocolate hazelnut with Reeses pieces on top. Can we say amazing! Oh yes. This was needed and necessary after a long day exploring Toronto. When my friends and I decided to visit Toronto for a long weekend, this place was a must do according to one of my friends. She had read up about this place and kept describing it for weeks. A delicious pastry covered in various toppings? Count me in! This location is right off the harbour and it's a tiny little shop. In the summer, there's plentiful seating outside but in the winter there's not much space. I saw quite a few people take theirs to go. My friends and I ordered the Maple and the Avalanche. The Maple was my favorite: maple flavored spread with a chocolate drizzle. Maybe because I was in Canada but I was really feeling the maple flavor. The Avalanche was delicious though. We took a tour in Toronto, and our tour guide pointed out this place as we drove pass. She told us how beavertail is a favorite of hers and it is usually only available in the winter, but now that they opened up a storefront here, they can enjoy it all year around. The reason why it is called a "beavertail" is that the dough is shaped just like a beaver tail. I thought it was such an adorable name, it's so Canadian! I was intrigued, and made a beeline for this place right after our tour. I LOVE sweets, and I always make a point to try the local desserts no matter where I am. My first impression of this place was that it is charming. I love the pendant lights hanging from the ceiling, and the view is fantastic as it is right on the waterfront (as indicated by its name). However, the service was extremely disorganized with multiple lines started to form as the staff members did not give clear instructions. There were people waiting in line by the cash register, in front of the ice cream display and on the side of the counter. Regardless of the confusion, I finally found my way to the right line and placed an order for the chocolate and banana version of the beavertail. Despite the initial disorganization, there were a lot of staff behind the counter and orders came out extremely fast. I was surprised at how big my beavertail was! The dough was perfectly crispy and just the right amount of sweetness. I probably could do with less chocolate sauce, but the banana was a nice complement. Overall, I loved my first experience with a "beavertail", and if we had more time, I would've loved to come back to try the plain version with cinnamon sugar.
