The park is awesome. No park entrance fees. Trails are very nice and great to navigate. Children's area with train and trail rides was a blast. Beavers Bend is clear and beautiful. We see deer and Grey Heron every time we go out there. It's usually clean and well maintained.

Mixed opinion. Have driven through the park and the area is absolutely beautiful, enticing enough to want to go back. However, has been next to impossible to speak to a person at the numbers listed on their website. They don't take reservations via phone, and only a few campsites can be reserved online; most are first come-first served. The reservation site showed the exact same site photo for all available sites. This is a very antiquated system, not user friendly but just frustrating. How can a campground expect folks to drive the distance & "hope" there's a site available? It isn't like folks are coming from just down the street. Surely there are better ways to run a campground. If not, there are other options. read more

Now this was a special treat to get to vacation here! First off ensure you come in the fall, there is a breathtaking view on your drive to the history museum - oh so many colors! The mission was to see a state park full of history and attractions, and that mission was a success. The museum is full of carved items and paintings from a famous artist but his name escapes me currently. It was a beautiful walkthrough of Oklahoma history - but stay tuned for the highlight of the trip to Beavers Bend State Park. We went on a scenic drive through another part of the park, yes we were looking for a Sasquatch - no we didn't find one (yet). Deep in the woods we stumbled upon a herd of wild fly fisherman, we had to ensure that we were quiet so that we didn't spook them in their natural habitat. Just beyond the land of fly fisherman we found a train that was bound for a ride through the woods. So on we went, but not before stopping to say hello to the resident kitten. As we boarded the train we were overcome with a sense of wonder, might we actually get to see a Sasquatch in its natural habitat?! The train slowly left the station and we were off into the vast unknown, as we round the first corner we are met with none other than......white tail deer anxious for snacks! Eugene the conductor didn't disappoint them and threw some corn for the chubby little deer to snack on. But there was one last treat on this little adventure....but you will have to go visit the Beavers Bend State Park to find out for yourself, it is a must see destination when you are in southeastern Oklahoma! read more

I remember coming to Beaver's Bend years ago as a kid and loving it - great memories with my Grandma. It is much more developed now and attractive to tourists. Great for the area! This time around I stayed in the RV Park on Stephens Gap Road in the state park in the winter. There's nice hiking trails and various outdoor activities that you can enjoy like fishing and kayaking. October 14-16, 2016 my dad and I went up to the park. It was gorgeous. The camp grounds looked awesome and safe. It was extremely nice. I loved seeing how many places there were to fish for trout. The trails seemed very accessible. There was places to go and get a kayak, $5 for a 1/2 hour. The scenery was breathtaking. read more

I think my favorite part about the Broken Bow area is the lake is inside the State Park. No homes on the shoreline. One small marina. So, pretty much just trees and water as far as you can see. The lake is super clean and access is pretty easy. There are a few decent restaurants and gift shops. Lots of camping and cabins for weekend getaways. The river float is a must do. But, don't tell everybody about this place, it's a great little secret hideaway. read more

With 2 little kids, we are always looking for good places to visit that are within a reasonable driving distance of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It helps the people in the front seat maintain their sanity in the face of the constant queries of "are we there yet?" and "how much longer?" On the suggestion of a friend, we chose to try a week in the Beavers Bend State Park in southeastern Oklahoma. It turned out to be a wonderful choice. The state park offers a huge variety of outdoor activities all within one beautiful location. This area of Oklahoma is heavily forested with pine trees and other natives. If the terrain were a little more elevated and the the temperatures a little lower, you might think you were in one of the country's more famous areas for pine forests like Colorado or northern California. The state park has a huge range of options on where to stay. You can go as simple as basic camping in a tent all the way to renting a lodge with your family and friends. Since my wife is not a camping fan, we opted for one of the local cabins to rent. We were happy with our choice, but I'll have to go into that detail in another review since this one is for the park itself. Once you've decided where you want to stay, their is an endless list of outdoor activities available for you to try. There are over 16 miles of trails on the David Boren trail system that winds through the park. The park is also home to Broken Bow Lake. The lake offers fishing, swimming, canoing, kayaking, and other forms of boating. It is a large, man-made lake with plenty of room for any of the watersports you may enjoy. For the fisherman looking for fly fishing options, you can also fly fish for trout all along the Mountain Fork River south of the lake itself. Their are many guide services available for the amateur and pro angler looking for a little local help. The choices range from short excursions up to over night trips. We spent a lot of time hiking on and hunting geocaches with the kids all along the trail system. There are trails from the most basic for the beginning hiker up to overnight, primative camping hikes for the more experience trekker. The vistas are beautiful, and the huge trees provide shade and cover for most of the trails. For the most part, the trails are very well marked and quite easy to follow. We found just what we were wanting: easy 1 or 2 hour hikes with the kids and much longer, more rugged hikes for the parents while the grandparents entertained the kids back at the cabin. For those with kids, there are also several horseback riding stables in the area that will take you and the family on trail rides. They aren't very exiciting for the experienced equestrian, but if you have small kids they are perfect. Be sure to call ahead, there are variances in age requirements between the stables. We ended up using the Beavers Bend Depot. (Reviewed separately.) We had a great time "tromping through the woods" and are looking forward to visiting again. We've just sworn to do it sometime a little cooler than August! read more

This park is a clean 3 hour drive from Plano - but we make the trip monthly when the weather cools off. 1. There are actual hills that you can HIKE and get lost in! 2. Plenty of camp sites with picnic areas and grill provided. 3. Primitive camping is $12/night. 4. There are designated RV areas with plug-ins. 5. Toilets scattered throughout - but the best is in the RV section with two full showers and sinks. 6. Kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, etc. can be rented. 7. You can fly fish - with the proper permit. 8. There is a grocery store and Wal-Mart down the road if you forget anything. 9. Feeling lazy? There are restaurants right outside the park! When you want to unwind, unplug, and GTFO of the city, definitely hit up Beavers Bend. Actually, don't. I want it all to myself! read more

The hiking trails are terrible. I started off thinking this would be a leisurely eight mile hike based on a relative's research of skyline trail. That was a tragic mistake. It ended up being a 13.5 mile, 10 hour death march. The more I hiked, the more my will to live decreased. I will not be going back any time soon, and I wish I could give this zero stars. I'll be regretting and recovering from this hike for the next century. read more

I don 't know how I've gone so long living in North Texas as an avid outdoorsman and fisherman without knowing about the Okie gem of a park in Beavers Bend. The park and the lake are picturesque. The rolling mountains look like they were cut by God who places the most perfectly reflective lake in the middle of it. Around this are slightly flowing and other raging rivers teeming with rainbow and brown trout ready for the traveling fisherman to snag with a little luck. The drive along the roads in the park are worth the trip itself. If I had to do our trip over again, I would spend the entire trip inside the parts. This might be the best part of Oklahoma. No sasquatch though. read more

Our first time visiting southeastern Oklahoma and WOW! What a beautiful surprise. I lived in the high country of Colorado for years and never expected (of all places) Oklahoma to offer landscapes to rival gods country. Heavily forested with great hiking/biking trails. Boats/kayaks/canoes/float trips, a swim beach, horseback riding and a small train ride (which young children will like, but we could have skipped) are all great family activities available at the park. Not to mention some great fishing opportunities if you know where to fish. The lower mountain fork river is stocked on regular basis with trout (bows and browns) and just below the damn can be fairly crowded with fisherman. But there are miles of river to fish if you can make the hike. Great RV park, first come first serve and few sewer hookups are the only drawbacks. The roads are a little tight for a 40ft RV, but manageable. No swimming in Acorn and Cypress areas due to the raising/lowering of the river when they open the damn everyday, listen for the sirens and get out of the water, it takes 10-15 minutes for the level to become a concern, but at full flow, the river is very dangerous. Warning signs are posted along the shoreline so you will know when you're in a dangerous section. Look out for the local wildlife vacating the flood areas as well, I had a "to close for comfort" encounter with a copperhead swimming through the brush as the river level rose. No issue, we both were heading for higher ground. The food at the park restaurant was great, all homemade and the staff was friendly and very gracious, the squirrels on the deck are fairly brazen and obviously accustomed to being feed by patrons. Broken bow lake is one of the most scenic I've seen. The visibility is 8-10ft and many coves/islands and fingers to find your own private spot to relax. Rent a boat, you won't be disappointed with a day on the lake. The restaurants around the entrance to the park are awesome! The Oak Steak House is the best down home southern cooking we tried (their gravy is the best). Try the pizza at the Tap Room, you won't believe how good this little backwoods restaurant is. Next door is the Grateful Head (surprisingly not a head shop), they have a great little humidor, Padron and Fuentes. I would have never guessed I'd find them here. Beavers bend and Hochatown state parks are a jewel in southern Oklahoma, we just happened to stop here and stayed for a week. We'll be back! read more

I am giving this place 5 stars based on the scenery, not on the park facilities. Absolutely breathtaking scenery and definitely a good escape if you need to get away from DFW! Beautiful. However the bathrooms near the tent area are absolutely awful :( I have tent camped in numerous parks and don't expect much but the bathrooms don't have any sinks or mirrors if you are tent camping. Beware that if you are going to tent camp there are only mini pit toilets near the campsites that aren't really cleaned at all. It saddens me that Oklahoma State Parks doesn't have the funding to have ok bathrooms throughout all the tent sites. :/ I had to drive about a mile from my campsite to go to the Fern RV campground bathroom to use the mirror and showers. Hickory and Elm Campsites are the best near the river, to me it was worth the sacrifice. So if you are tent camping with kids make sure you either camp at Fern campground where they have the only real bathrooms! Also the beavers bend Folk festival was awesome. Expect lots of traffic if you are coming on festival weekend. Also definitely plan on going early to find a campsite because they get snagged up real fast! Absolutely stunning scenery here, definitely come give it a try if you're willing to rough it out a little ;) Lots of great colors and if you go in November, the fog coming off the river is stunning! read more

Beautiful scenery; stayed in cabins at State Park. They are not 5 star by ANY means but basic, good accommodations with a fire place that adds to the atmosphere. Missed fall foliage peak by a week probably but good time to go. Lots of Halloween parties going on in Hochatown restaurants there, so energy was nice. Don't miss breakfast at State Park Restaurant.........served on tin or steel plates. Basic but nice activity/meal to enjoy right by or on the river and next to Nature Park. Remember to bring whatever you need to cabins. They only provide the very basic essentials and if you want to make sure everything is clean, or kept clean since they don't do any housekeeping except for exchange of linens or towels DURING your stay, I would suggest bringing coffee, paper towels and maybe some disinfectant wipes or something similar. Great hiking; good fly fishing and a scenic golf course they used to call Oklahoma's Little Augusta but apparently the Masters got after them. (Cedar Creek Golf Course) For a State Park, it's Oklahoma's hidden gem. Get there before the "Texans" take over.....LOL read more

This is a wonderfully beautiful area but has gotten so crowded that it is difficult to even drive in and so crowded at most all business.

The state park is pretty good. Although it needs way better signage. Everything is so vague. This negative review is of the kayak and paddle boat rentals. They need to get some people to work this little area that actually give a damn. These kids were so snobby and and you had to get their attention. We ALL could have just walked off with boats. We had to get their attention to pay them. Then they didn't offer any help with life preservers or accessories. Then we got back and told them we were back and they didn't care either way. This is a business model that could do well if someone operated it that cared but these kids were more concerned with their phones. read more

Stayed over the weekend at the Dogwood campground. Trails started right across. Hikes part of the skyline trail, excellent. Campground had a smelly loo. One water pump per campground. Fern campground(RV) nearby has proper bathroom facilities, dirty but functioning. Got no help at the main office. River is beautiful in the morning. read more

My boyfriend surprised me with a weekend getaway using a Groupon he found for the cabins ran by the state park. It was a one bedroom which was perfect for us but I wouldn't recommend trying to share with anyone else. There was not a tv or internet so I recommend bringing a book and stuff to make a fire. It was clean but the stove only had one burner that worked and half of the light bulbs were burnt out and the fire extinguisher expired in 2016. The park itself was very clean and has a lot of walking/hiking trails and is very pet friendly. We can't wait to go back this summer but we'll probably find a cabin outside of the park. read more

Great maintained, lots fun things to do with the family & kids. Fall is spectacular in the park. Trout fishing used to be fun and rewarding. But the 2015 flood changed the eco system completely. The trout fishing is no longer the same. But still it's a affordable vacation spot. read more

Just rv camped at this park (early November) and it is absolutely beautiful! The park amenities are great, the staff was helpful and friendly, and the scenery was amazing. There are several hiking trails suited for beginners to pros. There is a river that runs through the park that is great for trout fishing or kayaking. There is also Broken Bow Lake here which has stunning scenery and is good for bass fishing. The rv site rates are great, ranging from $20-25. The only con of this park is there are no modern amenities such as wifi or cable. We were unable to even acquire antenna signals for local stations. But honestly, you don't really need that stuff when you're camping! We will definitely be visiting this park again. read more

I absolutely LOVE coming here! My fiancé and I usually try and come here at least twice a year. Short drive from East Texas, only about 3 hours for us. The park is beautiful! The ice cold lower mountain fork River boasts beautiful greenish clear water with a gorgeous rock bottom and edges. There's a lot to do here for nature lovers! Kayaking the lower mountain fork river is a MUST! The scenery is amazing year-round! Enjoy the beautiful fresh green cypress trees by the river in the spring, or a variety of colored leaves on a hillside in the fall. The trout fishing is awesome! The rainbow trout are spectacular fish, they are so pretty and fun to catch! The park offers primitive campground areas as well as RV hookups, and cabins for rent. Plenty of hiking trails to keep you busy if that's something you're into! Broken bow lake is stunning as well! I love this place so much! I look forward to many more trips here! If you haven't been, plan a trip now! Great for family, friends, or a couples getaway! read more

Had to call 18 times before I got through by calling the restaurant and asking for help. Then when we arrived at park, there were three people in the office. Also most of the cabins were empty. Go figure. Park is beautiful. Hiking was great, but trails are not that well marked. One has to pay for parking on side of road to hike. We stayed in a river view cabin. Was acceptable, beautiful view, but many light bulbs were out, water faucets in bathroom are on backwards and operate counter to each other. The floor was incredibly dirty. Every time a spill was wiped, the towel would come back black. Windows are all very dirty and packed with webs. A window cannot be opened or touched without dirtying one's hands. Down the stairs to the river was a nice area but completely black at night. No outside lighting of any kind. A bit dangerous if one wanted to walk there. One has to turn sideways to get into the room with the queen bed because it's very tight. No kitchen utensils, no cooking utensils, no cookware, no dinnerware, no coffee pot, no toaster, no dish brush all because of pandemic I believe. Water was hot. HVAC, refrigerator and toilet worked very well. May return to park, but won't return to those cabins. read more

We love this place. This was out second time camping here and the only bad thing I can say is that there are a limited reserve sites and you can't pick your own. We reserved a site but then forfeited our deposit ($30) to camp in the premium no reserve spot in acorn ( name of the area ) these spots are more spacious and we like them better. Plus we were on the water. Park is clean. We saw deer every day and at night we had armadillos and raccoons that made a visit every night. We plan on making this park a yearly event. read more

My husband and I visited Beaver's Bend for our one year anniversary. It was not a disappointment and we had so much fun! We stayed one night in our tent right off the lake, and two nights in a cabin in the park. We went towards the end of July in the middle of the week, and the tent camp sites were empty. We had our pick of campsites and drove around for about an hour before we picked the perfect one. The park was beautiful and clean, and there were these adorable baby deer that would come within ten feet of the roads in the park! We hiked the Skyline Trail hike (~11 miles) and were disappointed by the lack of views. Between the gorgeous lake and a name like "Skyline Trail", we assumed there would be amazing lookouts with incredible views, but this challenging trail trekked mostly through the woods and became very repetitive within the first two miles. After our hike though, we headed to the river for some swimming. The water was FREEZING even in the middle of July, so we ditched that idea for kayaking instead, which was a blast! Overall, it was an incredible experience and we absolutely want to make it back one day! read more

Stayed two nights in cabin got eat up with bug bites and could not get in bed for bugs all in sheets . stop counting how many spiders we killed in cabin . started just to sleep in car. told staff about it they realy didnt seem to care.had family in another cabin kids eat up with bits as well as all adults. read more

One of the most breathtakingly beautiful places I have ever been. Crazy blue lizards, giant millipedes, and dung beetles abound. Even heard a Sasquatch howl at 2 am on my second night. I lived off-grid in the woods for 5 years and I know what coyotes and big cats and everything in between sound like. This was not a human either. Keep your peepers open and be safe out there! read more

The park is absolutely stunning. We do wish that they would charge a small fee or find some other way to come up with the funds to improve the bathrooms. Most of them don't even have plumbing. Make sure you bring your own soap for a day in the park. We reviewed the restaurant separately. It was a great disappointment other than the river view from the patio. read more

Just want to give you all a heads up that at Beaver's Bend in the Cypress and Acorn area close to the spill way there is a very horrid horn that goes off when the dam lets out and the river rises. It always had a horn but about a couple of years ago the Corp of Engineers upgraded it. It is very intense and a lot of people cannot handle it and have to leave early. And it doesn't just sound off once but several times. Then I noticed about 15 min later here it all went again. It is also rotating back toward the camp ground. I'm blocked from their Facebook page because I reported it and no one else has said a thing so we are thinking they are deleting the reports but maybe they didn't have the delete feature on for mine? Who knows. I stayed there for 6 days just this last week but I got as far away as possible and I had the Boise Noise Deadening head phones. It wasn't raining and it probably went off 1/2 a dozen times with each time sounding probably about 3 times so so 6x3? Otherwise it is an absolutely beautiful park. But again they used to give rain checks if you left early but now they say you have to had canceled your trip 10 days ahead. I headed right over to Fern area 1st right behind someone else trying the same thing and it was full on Thursday 28th of March. I will be going back but my sister with PTSD will never go again. And I can't take the paid groups that I used to do where we put on a few days of special activities. I've gone probably since the 70s and am not willing to give it up. I worry for animals and kids. And I've been told that people hard of hearing will have a certain tone that could be heightened. Or that hearing aids could heighten it. A year or so ago when my sis and I stayed at the closest site my ears hurt so bad for over 10 days and a ear piece for talking on the cell was very painful. So I know it was cooler weather and Cypress is now taking reservations but no one was there. I was told that people are leaving all the time. Pity for such a lovely place. There is nothing like it that I like. So as for me I will try and tolerate it with my head phones and go hiking a lot. And I will camp as far as possible from it. I did rent a few nights and added on as I found I could tolerate it. So just giving a heads up. I wish the Corp of Engineers could rethink this and at least not point it toward camp. read more

Came here after camping on the upper mountain fork. Sites are a little small and the place is pretty spread out. Beautiful place with good entertainment for the kids. One thing to note, they do not take reservations within 2 weeks of getting here so reserve early. Acorn campsite is next to river but no swimming/canoeing due to undercurrent. If you bring a motorhome, you need some kind of transportation to get around with. Train ride is not open on Mondays so be sure to plan ahead for little guys. read more
