I wouldn't swim in this lake, but there were people fishing and that seemed fun and it was a lovely 2 mile easy walk. It felt safe, too. Good for families and pretty views!!

They had a few walking bridges and a nice section by the parking lot with splash areas. The lake was much larger than I thought and had a large paved trail around it all. It was 1.8 miles total with some sections in the direct sun and some uphill so be prepared. There were a few benches and stops to rest on the trail but the only bathrooms were in the front. There were a lot of of people fishing and many concrete docks to walk out on which I thought was a great feature. I did see a lot of garbage in the water and ground and not enough trash cans for sure. Also a lot of goose poop but I guess that happens. We saw many birds, turtles, and fish which my kids liked a lot! I do recommend checking this nice lake out for fishing, nature exploring, or a nice walk.

What a horrible experience! Let me first start off by saying that over the years I have spent…read morehundreds (maybe even thousands) of dollars floating & camping @ Gypsys. I have 3 kids under 9 that are small enough to sit on a kayak with an adult. Most of the time my husband & I rent 3 kayaks, a $90 rental. On this occasion we had friends with their own kayaks floating and we decided to rent a tandem kayak instead, a $60 rental, and let 2 children ride with the friends. Upon arrival, I asked my husband to pull up to the stairs & drop me off so that I could check in. It's the bus turn around area, there appeared to be no other customers present except 1 other person in our party, my knee was killing me, and it wasnt a big deal. However, the young man driving the bus didnt think so and was quick to reprimand. I explained my husband was just dropping me with my injured knee off so I could check in. The young man with his super trooper shades then repeated himself and continues to tell me about it being the bus turn around and how we aren't supposed to drive there. It was a no harm, no foul situation and I really didn't feel I needed a lecture as my husband was just trying to help me avoid any extra knee pain. My first indication of the rudeness I was about to encounter. The owner Jerrid greeted me when I walked in the office. He tells me I had to pay the take out fees for my friends kayaks. Friends boats, not mine. I tried to call my friends but couldn't get through so I paid the fees for the boats that weren't mine, $15. Then he tells me each of my kids has a $20 shuttle fee adding up to $60. According to the website, this is the fee per person for shuttling boats, but now he is telling me its for shuttling 3 small kids, all less than 50lbs each, on a bus going 3.5 miles with their parents. We went from a $60 rental to $135 to cover my friends boats docking there and shuttle(bus) fees for 3 small kids without boats. I tried to explain that we had never had shuttle fees for my children & I felt at least one of them should be included in the $60 rental, as they had never charged me extra for shuttling them with 3 kayaks and I have ALWAYS been upfront about taking my kids. I mentioned the really nice blonde haired lady that worked the office in the past & how she knew the situation. Maybe that's what set him off, as I suggested she was his wife and he is divorced. Or maybe it was just that I wasn't willing to hand over $75 more to him on a slow, end of the season day bt this is when he began raising his voice & talking over me. He proceeded to tell me how I have been stealing from him if I had not paid his shuttle fees in the past. Lets call them bus fees as there was no boat shuttling involved here. I said I would have my friends at the kayak park come get my children, no big deal. He continued yelling at me and slamming things, not just in front of his children that were in the room but he followed me outside, slamming the doors in his establishment, and yelling at me in front of my children. He literally yelled that all I 'had to do was be kind'. He yelled it! Stop for a second a check yourself Jerrid. I wasn't treated with an ounce of kindness from the second we pulled in. Jerrid slammed the door of his office so hard that it was felt in the stairs on the other side and my family said you could see the windows shake. All because I wasn't willing to pay the excessive fees he presented & found a reasonable way to save $. He then tried to tell us to all get on the shuttle after having a temper tantrum about shuttle fees & me being a thief. As it turns out, my friends had already paid that $5/boat fee. Ironic bc he accused me of stealing from him. When informed, Jerrid threw cash at my friend & told him I wasn't welcomed back & he's going to "put my name in the computer". Jerrid you can put it in the computer, write it on a wall, sketch it in some stone, but there is no way I will EVER support your establishment again. He's clearly unstable. Jerrid & his staff have a lot to learn about being gracious to their customers.

The scariest part was the rope came off the tube when we pulled it, it was simply not tied on properly. I've been on the lake a number of times both on rented and owned boats. (First of all, pricing for boat rentals is CRAZY, $700 for the day!) We (5 of us) get there at 9:00 that morning, ready to go. We check in, get assigned boat #5, we load a day's worth of "stuff" (2 coolers, food, floaties, towels, etc.), get our instructions, back out of the slip, and motor toward open water. As soon as we pass the "no wake zone" buoy the boat starts beeping. We turn around for the marina. Get back, go inside, and ... wait my turn. Tell them the boat is beeping. "Okay, we'll be with you in just a minute." So ... we wait. The guy who gave us our instructions comes back, and takes the boat out. Brings the boat back in, "yep, it's beeping." Volt meter says 11.4 volts. "I'll go get a new battery." We wait. He comes back with a new battery ... and no tools to install the battery. We wait. New battery is installed ... new battery doesn't solve the problem. "You'll have to go inside and talk to them." Inside: "We're 'sorry', all our boats are rented for the day. How far away do you live?" 5 hours. "Well, we can give you a refund or give you credit for another day." Um, no, I'll take the refund. We won't be back. So, all that to say this: Does the marina check the boats between rentals? Who knows. What we do know: they don't hold ANY boats back "just in case" something like this happens. Additionally: you were just renting ONE of their 10 (12 ... 15 ...?) boats. If they ruined your day because their boat doesn't work, they're "sorry". Beware of boat #5!

Sadly, the loving care that was once evident everywhere is no longer there. The cabins are in serious need of maintenance. I called a few times prior to finally booking online because I couldn't catch anyone on the phone. Our keys were pinned to a corkboard at the office when we arrived around 3:25 pm. When we checked out the next morning at 8:36, there was also no one in the office, although a housekeeping(?) vehicle drove past us to the cabin. It was a very impersonal experience and not at all what I experienced as a child and also when I returned with my own young children years ago. I did text and call Kelly as I would have preferred to give this feedback in person, as well as settle my account. No shampoo or body wash in the bathrooms, but there were some soap bars. Bring a hair dryer - there isn't one. Pro tip: We didn't think there was a bath mat, but it was folded under the tissue holder on the back of the toilet. Water was hot and the pressure was decent. Our cabin (no 2) had gray hairs on one of the pillowcases and the sheets had multiple tiny holes. There was a streak of black on the ceiling of our cabin above the bed that might have been mold but honestly am not sure. The expensive tv ads that run in the DFW and OKC market could be better spent on Thompson's water seal for the exteriors and refreshing the ancient carpet and sheets/beds. That said, if you think of it as a glamping experience it might not be so bad. Sadly, this will most likely be our last visit here. Giving it two stars for the creek and river views.

The boats they show on the website are not the boats that you may get!! Beware of the bait and switch that they have going on here...at least with us. It had a sticker that said 225 HP but the motor on the boat was a 150 and must have been ancient as well. We would of returned it once we saw how lame it was but we had family from two different states that came in for the Labor Day weekend to spend one day together on the lake and there were no other boats available that day so we just stuck it out. When we returned it and told the lady about the bad experience she just said we took that boat out yesterday and it was going 40-45 miles an hour!
