We booked a boat for a four- hour block. The policy stated we could arrive anytime during that four- hour block and take the boat out. We arrived halfway through our reserve block to pick up the boat (our toddler was napping and we only wanted to spend a couple hours on the lake). As we arrived a storm rolled in before we were able to take it out. They refused a refund and did not even offer a voucher or credit for a future trip. We rented a pontoon boat for 4 hours from here and found the staff to be Frendly and helpful. The boat was quite new and in great shape. Well equipped with navigation which is super helpful when you are on an unfamiliar lake. They gave us a map and marked some interesting spots. We looked for waterfalls in the area they pointed out and we found 7 or 8. Beautiful lake with great scenery. Compared to any other boats we have rented this was by far the best. It had a 150 HP Honda engine. Most rental boats are way under powered. This was not. Definitely a good experience. I recommend it. read more

Been back for a get together with a large group of 25 or so. Had their pizza this time and it was great for on the water pizza. Tasted about 6 different ones and even like just the cheese pizza as well. The owner was on site an accommodation the group without any delays. Just nice owners that care. read more

THIS PLACE IS COMPLETELY UNETHICAL WITH BOAT RENTALS!!!! We rented a 23' Tritoon (150hp) boat for a full day and was charged a full day price of $690. (half day price listed on their website for the same boat is $480) The confirmation that we received after booking only listed the pickup time of 10am, not the return time. We discussed the return time with the person who gave us the boat keys on the morning of the rental. We stated that we would return it at 4pm and he said it wasn't due until 6pm. On the morning of the rental, we also signed "the rental agreement" on an ipad where we could only sign our name but could not see what we were signing. At 2:45pm they told us that we had only reserved the boat for a half day and would need to pay an additional $325 and return the boat immediately. Apparently the "rental agreement" that we signed but couldn't see said that we would be charged $100 for every 15 minutes starting at 2pm. So we ended up paying over $1000 for a little over 4 hours on a little pontoon boat even though our agreement was to pay $690 for 8 hours. DON'T RENT FROM HERE!!! read more

Let's start with the good. The staff is great. Very helpful and do a good job. The facility is nice. We have rented boats from them twice- won't happen again. First time the center log of the tritoon was filling with water. We took it back and they were not surprised!! Boats are approximately $500 for 8 hours - 10 to 6 pm. The engines are cutback so the boat won't go more than 20 mph. Rent a small tube for kids to ride and it's $75 more. Felt like I had been robbed by the time it was done. Never again. read more

Staff was friendly and helpful. However the maintenance of the boats was lacking. We rented the double-decker pontoon with a slide. The water pump for the slide was broke so a bucket that was cracked was provided. Seat cushions were ripped. The depth finder and sound system were completely broken. The anchor and motor were not the correct size for the boat so we had trouble getting the anchor to hold and when we did, the anchor got stuck. After trying for 30 minutes and even having a local help us (who expressed some negative feelings about Starkey Marina) it wouldn't come back up so we had to let it go, making us late to return the boat. Luckily they didn't make us pay the late fee, however we did have to pay for the lost anchor. Despite these issues causing our group to lose some leisure time on the water and paying more than we should have, we still had fun as a group. To add to this, Starkey Marina called us the day after our rental and told us that they "charged for the wrong anchor and we had to pay more." Safe to say that next time, we will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

Months ago, I reserved the Sky Deck 30' pontoon from Starkey Marina. I thoroughly searched all rentals in all marinas at the lake and this Sky Deck at Starkey "appeared" to be the nicest rental on the lake. Myself and 9 friends rented the Sky Deck for all day. The Sky Deck is a 16 passenger pontoon. The craft had a grossly undersized motor. It guzzled gas for this reason. The Bluetooth would not connect. The sink faucet did not work. The slipper slide pump was broke, therefore, needed to pour water by hand down the slide to function. The depth finder did not work. All the storage areas under the seats were very wet, therefore, no storage space available under seats. The "one and only" anchor, for a 30' craft was so ridiculously lightweight to the point that we literally could not anchor the craft. Upon return of boat I requested the manager. I was asked why. I told them I did not want to make a scene in from of other customers, but wanted to visit with manager about these major issues. Manager was young, rude, disrespectful, cavalier, unprofessional, etc... When told him of issues he said if he had a bigger anchor he would have to charge more for the rental. As the short conversation went on, I asked if he would please be more respectful to me with his tone of voice and overall attitude. He said "careful what you ask for, or we'll be done". I then said, "I'm no longer asking you to be respectful, I'm telling you to be respectful." He said, "we're done". As I walked into marina to pay full price for half service, I said I'll take my business to your competitor next time. I'm my absence he told my friend to tell me that would be great if I took my business elsewhere, as Starkey Marina could use a break on being so busy. BTW; I'm 58 years old, manager was roughly half my age. Worst manager/business boy, I've ever met at any establishment, any where... I just received a call from the owner. I had sent him an email requesting some sort of resolve for my complaint, which is what led to my poor review. Anyhow, he basically called to let me know that he was so busy he no longer wanted or needed my business. He told me I must be a grumpy old man with a sad life... I travel for a living and this is the first review I've ever written -- so it must tell you my experience was pretty poor!! These boats are very poorly inspected and maintained!!!! We rented a pontoon for half a day with a slide for the kids and we got it about a half mile out in the open lake (never even took it full throttle as we were looking for a spot to anchor for the kids to slide & swim) when all of a sudden the boat starts shaking & vibrating. Mind you, we've owned several boats throughout our life we immediately stopped the boat, trimmed the prop out of the water and one of the plastic/composite blades was broke off. We had to spend the next hour getting towed back and having the prop replaced. The owner argued with us saying we had to have hit something. We hit nothing!!! -- we would have felt it. We asked if he would offer some more time on the boat since we just lost over an hour, he said no. So not only did we lose out on our time, he said we had to pay for the prop. Additionally, the water mechanics on the slide didn't work, there was a janky bucket tied to a rope that we had to drop down to the water and fill them hoist back to the top to water down our own slide. The depth finder didn't work either. When we went to check out, he tried to make us pay for all 3 blades when only one was broken. He stated there were 'wrinkles' in the others. We spent money on t-shirts, ice, drinks, alcohol, pizzas and he wouldn't even give us an extra 30min on the boat and made us pay the for the blade. Mind you, it was only $35 - but really?? Terrible customer service!!!!!! Do not recommend!! In total, we paid $550 for the boat (lost an hour of time using it), $200 in goods in his store, $70 in gas (not sure how we even remotely used this much gas - we went out all of 2mi), $30 for prop. This has been the worst experience I've ever had we rented a pontoon boat the bench seats were all broken and when you sat on them you fell all the way in the radio which we were told works did not operate at all and on top of all that we rented a tube that we got to use 4 times before the tube came out of its liner. When we asked if they could take off the tube charge the manger just shrugged his shoulders I would recommend taking your business else where. read more

Check in was smooth and clear, I had a couple details questions that were confidently answered. We were on our way in 5-10 minutes, and enjoyed boating, swimming and fishing from our boat. We stopped by half way through our rental for a restroom break- and were greeted with warm smiles, and terrific hospitality. When we were done, we just pulled up to the gas dock and were checked in in no time flat. Payed the (less than) $20 for gas. We had to buy a t-shirt or two before leaving and every staff member we interacted with were exceedingly professional and top notch. Will definitely return next time we're at Beaver Lake! read more

What Steve the owner has done to make this more than a gas station is fantastic! 12 beautiful rental boats, clean slips with no spider webs, clean bathrooms, a full stote, a fresh pizza restaurant with outdoor seating on the water, great friendly service, overnight rental slips, a fish cleaning station, all in a beautiful cove! My family and I rented a boat for Starkey Marina July 1, 2020. Our set rental time was 10-6. We had arrived at 10:45, however, we did call them at 10 to let them know that we would be late. We left the dock, on boat 8 ,around 11:00, the young man that helped us was really friendly and even got us a map of Beaver Lake (this was the first time we'd ever been on and my kids' first time on a boat). While we were using the tube, we'd noticed that there was a leak in it and we had to keep blowing it up. We began to look for a pump in some of the under seat storage compartments. We had some things stored in a couple of them so I looked where we had not. Much to my shock, I had picked up something full of liquid (to move out of the way), that I thought was water but noticed it was yellow. I turned it over and set it back down quickly, as I felt my hand getting more wet. I read on the bag that it was a Cure Catheter System. I was appalled. Why would that be on a boat?!? I felt it was very unsafe for my children and my parents to be around something so disgusting as urine is a bio-hazard. Being tremendously uncomfortable, we decided to bring the boat back. We arrived back at the dock at around 3:45. We had asked for a manager and the young lady that was doing the boat check had asked us why, when we told her and showed her what we found, she said it was disgusting. We told her didn't want to make a scene, just wanted to inform the manager. My husband went in the boathouse with her, she had told the manager. The manger and the owner stepped into a room to talk. Then the manger came bursting out with a grocery bag. On her way to the boat she declared that she "used to be a home health nurse and wasn't afraid of liquid". My husband (who is a trained EMT), told her that she didn't need to be ignorant about it and should practice BSI - Bodily Fluid Separation. She did it anyway and just threw it away in the trash can. On the dock. The owner had come out and looked in the boat, from the starboard side, and said that he'd wished he had one of those for when he was drinking beer out on the boat all day. No one thought that was funny. He then told us all he could offer was an apology. Getting increasingly irritated with how cavalier he was being we asked him if he was joking. Seeing the inadequacy with his "apology" he said they would rinse it out and we could take the boat back out until 6:30. We did not want to take the contaminated boat out. He said things like, what have you never had to pee before? At this point, I just couldn't believe how he was handling the situation. He then offered to let us have the boat until 7:00. We found it to be very patronizing and ignorant. I was not happy to say the least. I then told him I had pictures of the catheter and he told me that I could "shove the pictures up my ass". That is when my husband started filming and my dad got really mad. The owner threw his hands up and asked what we wanted him to do. My dad pointed at him and told him he wanted to take some responsibility for what happened. The owner said he didn't care. My husband then stepped in and told him he didn't want to make a big deal about it. The owner began to walk away and asked if we would like a monetary apology, we said yes. He said he couldn't do that. He then had our card charged $45 for the fuel that we had used (even though the gas gauge was broken). On later Facebook comments, the owner admitted that it was a used bag and the manager had said that the catheter was "safe in the dumpster". read more

Rented a pontoon that has several issues (trash from last customer, ripped seats, under powered and would not get on plane thus using a lot of gas,10 lb. mushroom Anchor would not hold large pontoon so someone had to man the boat when swimming). Upon Going thru the issues the manager who happens to be the owners son according to the staff made it clear none of the issues were his problem and he would prefer we took our future business somewhere else as he was too busy to care. Editing the anchor weight to 20lbs as a representative of the Marina called and was adamant it was not 10 lbs but 20 lbs. Glad we got that straight! read more

DO NOT RENT A BOAT FROM THIS MARINA. We rented a pontoon from Starkey Marina weeks in advance for a few hours on the lake. Unfortunately a thunderstorm rolled through during the night before of our reservation. The rain subsided around noon of the day of our reservation, but we did not want to risk being on the water right after a big storm had rolled through, so I decided to give them a call the day of our reservation to cancel. I made it very clear that i was not asking for a full refund, but instead paying the $200 cancellation fee for the inconvenience to their business. Dave, the manager I spoke with, was extremely unhelpful. He expressed how prideful of having more than 1700 boats rented last year and, quite frankly, did not care that I was out of pocket (over $350) for absolutely no product or service. He continued by saying I was hard-headed and "afraid of a little cold weather and some clouds", but if I want to reschedule he'd be happy to help. It is mind-boggling to think that he thought this would be an effective sales tactic. He finished by saying if I want to come run things at the marina my way, "you better bring a big wad of cash with you" and then hung up. The disrespect Dave showed to me has forced me to write this negative review, something to which I have never in my life done before. I work in customer service as well and I understand the hardships that many people are faced with recently. This marina does not care about you. All they want is your money and I can see how evident that is by reading some of the other previous reviews on this page. I hope no harm to Dave or his business and I do hope he does implement better customer service practices for future boat renters coming to his Marina. Be very careful when renting from them in the meantime... Cancellation policy that relates to my case: "We do not allow cancellations for rain or overcast weather, the only reason we cancel is lightning due to safety issues." https://www.starkeymarina.com/renting-policies Their cancellation policy clearly states that if lightning is present (regardless of whether or not the lightning happens during your reservation) that I am able to negotiate a refund. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. My fiance has video evidence of thunder happening this morning. When I told Dave this, he began to explain that thunder may not always mean there is lightning. Excuse me? Either I have been lied to my entire life, or these meteorologists have some serious explaining to do. Dave, I know you are reading this. You know where to contact us to work this out. Starkly Marina customer service has led me to do a review which in my case are few and far between. After viewing a photo of their top of the line pontoon we rented it for the day. Talk about misleading, the boat was not at all as advertised. Here is a list of issues. Trash from last customer left on board, water supply for slide was broken and Starkey Marina let us know the best way to handle this issue was keep a cup of water to pour on the slide when you want to go down it. Many tears in seat cushions, blue tooth for Stereo did not work. It was noted it wouldn't work as everyone wanted to hook up to it. Kind of makes sense as that is what it is for. Boat was under powered and would not get on plane thus using an excess amount of gas. Lastly the anchor was a 10 pound mushroom type and would not hold the boat so you could not stop and swim with out someone manning the boat to keep it from running ashore. Upon retuning the boat the manager who happens to be the owners son stated all the issues were just the way they were and we should take our business in the future somewhere else as he "needed a break". I have boated my entire life and visited every marina on this lake. Starkey is second to none when it comes to service and friendliness! In most recent years updates have been made to everything from the docks and gas pumps to the expansion of the store. The dock eating area with picnic tables, fans, pizza, nachos, and sandwiches has become a social gathering place. Prices are fair and help with almost every boating need is available. Boat rentals are popular, especially with the double decker & slide. Starkey is a must stop to complete any weekend getaway or family vacation! read more

Starkey Marina is the best! We dropped most of our party (and all of the bags) at the house dock and ended up showing up with our rented boat with no money, wallets...nothing! Smart, right?
