This is one of several cave systems in North Central Arkansas. We have visited War Eagle Caverns in…read morethe past and other caves throughout the US. It was very scenic, and caves do differ in their internal formations. Some have smooth walls and large open caverns. Some are more jagged with twisting, narrow passages. This was more of the latter. Word to the wise: steep stairs formed out of rock, passageways where a person had to lean sideways to pass through. I bumped my head on one and I'm short. Expect constant dripping from above due to 100% humidity, with wet walkways, stairs and railings. You could easily slip if not prepared. In fact our guide told us the back section of the cave had been closed to tours because it was now too slippery. We were able to see some bats at the end of the tour. As jagged caves go, it was impressive. Our guide's jokes felt scripted and forced. We found him not terribly friendly, and no one laughed. He did not seem to enjoy his job. Aside from that, it was an entertaining way to spend an hour and a half on the way to Eureka Springs.

The water shoes in the shop were a fair price. The large cabin was perfect, being close to the main cabin. Sadly, the loving care that was once evident everywhere is no longer there. The cabins are in serious need of maintenance. I called a few times prior to finally booking online because I couldn't catch anyone on the phone. Our keys were pinned to a corkboard at the office when we arrived around 3:25 pm. When we checked out the next morning at 8:36, there was also no one in the office, although a housekeeping(?) vehicle drove past us to the cabin. It was a very impersonal experience and not at all what I experienced as a child and also when I returned with my own young children years ago. I did text and call Kelly as I would have preferred to give this feedback in person, as well as settle my account. No shampoo or body wash in the bathrooms, but there were some soap bars. Bring a hair dryer - there isn't one. Pro tip: We didn't think there was a bath mat, but it was folded under the tissue holder on the back of the toilet. Water was hot and the pressure was decent. Our cabin (no 2) had gray hairs on one of the pillowcases and the sheets had multiple tiny holes. There was a streak of black on the ceiling of our cabin above the bed that might have been mold but honestly am not sure. The expensive tv ads that run in the DFW and OKC market could be better spent on Thompson's water seal for the exteriors and refreshing the ancient carpet and sheets/beds. That said, if you think of it as a glamping experience it might not be so bad. Sadly, this will most likely be our last visit here. Giving it two stars for the creek and river views.

The river is 45 degrees so not swimmable for me, but the lake is a 3 minute drive away and it's a nice place to spend the day. The water is sulphuric so I recommend you bring some bottled water for drinking/cooking. Also, bring bug spray because the skeeters and flies will eat you alive! you get a free river float trip if you stay at least 3 nights. Not far from eureka springs either if you're a shopper!

I went in by myself the first time to see what they had. The kayaks were nice and the prices were average but the woman manager was remarkably rude. My wife and I went back together on Mother's Day to let her pick one out. The same lady manager was overtly rude again. She then argued with me that she did NOT have the kayak I had just seen there a day earlier. So I got a different associate to go get it and I bought it. I am a life long "outdoorsman". Typically people working in the outdoor specialty industry are positive, active, people looking forward to interacting with like minded people. I am part of the 50ish year old still very active outdoors crowd that finally has good money to spend on gear for play. I will try to tell anyone listening to go somewhere else. The rudeness and lack of professionalism is NOT off-set by competitive pricing. Won't be back
