We thoroughly enjoyed our day at War Eagle Cavern. Our tour guide (Samantha? - long blond hair) was very knowledgeable and professional. She obviously loved her job and the park. We did the 1 hr tour, the Mystery Moonshine Shacks and the maze, as well as bought the Emerald Bag of Dirt to pan and found quite a number of gems. We had a blast. The walk to the cave is a short, beautiful, paved path. The cave walking is fairly easy, but for those with balance issues, please use caution, as it is rock below and not always completely smooth. As well, you do have to duck a few times -- but it only makes the tour more adventurous. The tour itself was incredible, but we upgraded to the Moonshine Mystery shacks and Maze. These are especially fun for families with children, but neither are good for those with balance issues. We had a teen with us and had some fun. The only negative thing was that I think we picked up chiggers from any of the wooden things we sat or touched, as well as in the maze. We still enjoyed our time thoroughly and want to go back again with others. Again, our Emerald bag of dirt did NOT disappoint! It was full of little surprises! read more

As someone from the Chicagoland area, we don't see this kind of stuff often around us. We came to visit my grandparents and decided to come by here and it has been one of my favorite stops of the trip. The land surrounding it is breathtaking. It's hard to remember that America has such beautiful places like this. Beaver lake and that river ( connecting with boat access) as you walk down was beautiful to see such clear calming waters. The cavern was jaw dropping. It was stunning in of itself, and just left me in amazement. From the temperature inside being constant, to the thousands of years old formations within the cave. Overall this place is a fun and gorgeous experience and is a great stop to add to any individuals, couples, or families stop. read more

This was a great detour while in the Eureka Springs area! Highly recommend getting the combination ticket that gets you the cave tour as well as access to the maze and the moonshiners fun house. The funhouse was shockingly a lot of fun, and it's the perfect way to kill time while waiting for your tour. The tour was awesome! One of the best cave tours I've been on. We absolutely loved our guide Jeff! He is so knowledgeable and friendly, and he has great teeth. He taught us that if a drop of water falls on you in a cave, that's a cave kiss! Fair warning, the quarter mile walk down to the cave entrance is nice, but you do have to walk up quite a steep hill afterwards to get back to your car. You also have to duck and get low during the tour, so keep that in mind for people with mobility challenges. I would definitely go back again! Loved the experience. read more

I was visiting my cousin and her partner in Arkansas mid October. We took a tour at War Eagle Cavern and had a nice day exploring. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and personable. He told us the areas to duck and be more careful where the ground was slippery when wet. We explored caves and learned about history. We had a great time. Walking down the mountain was easy but walking back up was tough. I decided to take the quicker route up which was more steep, but there were places to rest. I'm a plus size woman and I definitely felt it in my knees the next day. The love and respect for nature from our tour guide was apparent throughout our tour. We had all ages represented in our tour and everyone did great. I did learn that normally the fall color changes are gorgeous, but there was a drought this year. Also the recent hurricane/ tornado mangled and dropped some of the trees. I was told War Eagle is going to work at returning the property to its previous splendor. There was also a nice gift shop and maze we meandered through where we learned about the different Indian tribes. War Eagle is a good time for the whole family. read more

I thought the signs on the drive in were tongue in cheek jokes about no cell phone service. But they were right. And that's ok, gives me more time to enjoy the nature. Our tour guide was John and he was great. He had his standard jokes and script. But he also was very engaging with our group. The tour took us in to the caverns where we learned much about caves and caverns, bats and Jesse James. Then we were allowed to walk around and take in the sights above the cavern. Timing is everything. We got here after lunch at the War Eagle Mill (see my separate review) in time for last tour of the day and one of the last for season. Usually they close at end of Oct and open in Mar to allow the bats to hibernate undisturbed. But open a bit later this year. Your tour guide makes the show so get a good one. Our group was small in number and wide range in ages 5-70+. Tour takes an hour after walk down to opening, inside and then back up. Wear flat shoes and duck you head in places. If you have mobility issues (cane/walker etc) this tour is not for you. Our tour guide was excellent having been on staff since 2003 and done a bunch of tours especially school groups. BTW: get an education on bats; bat poop used in fertilizer food, rum, tequila, and gun powder production. read more

Not worth the price or effort. The accessible portion of the cave is relatively small with VERY few geological features. It is a relatively new cave, so don't expect to see much. Stalagmites of a quarter of an inch, for example. There is no "underground lake" as advertised; it's a small pool maybe a couple of feet deep. The "waterfall" is about 3 feet high. Access to the cave is about as long as the cave itself, (maybe a quarter mile?) and is very steep, though it is paved. NOT "easily accessible" as advertised on their site. If you have mobility issues, it will be a challenge. (They do tell you when you purchase a ticket that "you have to go down a hill" to get to it, but not how steep it is at times.) Guide was average at best and clearly annoyed by the slower people on the tour. No accommodations for mobility-challenged. Return from the cave can be by the same return route or by an extensive set of steps which are seldom level. Oh, and the railings on both routes are very unstable or missing. Save your money and visit some of the much more rewarding caves in the region. read more

I am so disappointed in my experience at War Eagle Cavern. An absolutely beautiful natural wonder that was ruined by an extremely unprofessional and uneducated tour guide. Our tour guide told us that War Eagle Cavern was formed during Noah's flood. Not only is that a scientifical impossibility, when asked a date he couldn't answer. Caves take millions of years to form, his answer, "during noah's flood." I did learn all about his scuba diving hobby and bullet-proof backpacks. He also touched the cave walls which is a big no-no in caves due to the skin oils affecting the formation of stalagmite. The saddest part to me is that this is a well known field trip spot for the area and the children aren't learning anything about the actual geology or factual history of the cave. Really sad and such a shame. read more

My husband and I visited the Cavern with our out of state - Corvette Car Club, and we had a wonderful time. Our tour guide was very informative and the cavern was absolutely beautiful. Special thanks to everyone at the Cavern for making our trip there one that fun memories are made of. Our group of 17 cars arrived early for our 11:00 am tour and the staff was kind enough to open the gates early so we could park inside and not block the road to the park. If your in the area, this is a must stop and see place. So much to do and see. We only had time for the main cavern tour but it was so worth it. We visited with our kids (4 and 8) and had a very enjoyable time. The staff were quite friendly and our tour guide informative and enjoyable. And she was patient with all the questions from our 4 year old. The setting is lovely. The cavern itself is pretty mild. It is not the most interesting in terms of features but it is an easy walk and does have some points of interest and an interesting history. Bats live in the cave and sleep during the day so they don't disturb you. We did have one wake up and buzz our group a few times. It just made the tour more interesting. The gift shop is interesting and our kids loved sluicing for "gems" after the tour. A good time and we'd be happy to return. read more
