Blow OUT or BLOW STYLE? What's the difference to you? Because I am a curly haired gal, I specifically asked for a blow dry experienced stylist when making the appointment. I was disappointed on this visit. My initial experience: The staff take EXCELLENT Precaution for all consumers with temperature checks and asking all questions about any potential exposure - KUDOS to the management team. The staff are extremely knowledgeable about products which I have appreciated on visits. This time, I thought let me test out the salon and get a "Blow Out" - I knew as soon as I sat in the chair and the hair stylist dried my hair that I was not getting a blowout, which defined by my previous experience is like heaven. A blowout is when the stylist works your hair straight, so that it lasts a few days. So that you can feel glamorous walking out the door. Don't get me wrong, Liz was great, she was appreciative of my thick hair, treated my scalp tenderly, explained the products and explained how she might use a flat brush vs a round brush on my hair. I did NOT feel glamorous at the end. I asked about the heat setting not being applied to my hair, why she didn't work my curly roots, and when she was done, I told her "this wont last a day". my roots were curly giving me volume. Liz explained perfectly well about hair and scalp care and did her best with my hair. She was engaging and a great conversationalist. AND I appreciate her attempt to work with my hair. I have coil 3 curl and was not content with what a "blow out service" is at this salon. If you are looking for a "Dry Bar blowout / blow dry service" - this is not the place. They have an awesome selection of products with great prices! - in search for a local hair stylist that knows how to work their blow dryer for curly hair. read more

I called ahead and asked if any nail techs would agree to wear a mask during my pedicure. We are being extra cautious as we are trying to board an airplane. I was assured that Megan agreed to wear a mask. After I arrived and we began, I reminded her of the agreement. She then claimed that she didn't have a mask. I scheduled an appointment to get my hair dyed. It had been a big change so I went in and consulted the girl who was dying my hair beforehand. She knew that I wanted a balayage and when I went in she didn't finish it because it took longer than she had expected. She just made my hair dark and added reddish tint when I asked for caramel. I cried when I first saw my hair. She said that she would fix it if I didn't like it after a few washes for FREE after this $85 job, even though I had asked her to fix it then and there. When I came back I had 1. scheduling problems and 2. she made me wait 45 minutes until she saw me and 3. she charged me $40 for the job she did not finish the first time even though I had asked her. Did I mention she said she would fix it free of charge? Yeah needless to say my hair looks damaged and I regret ever trusting this stylist to touch my hair. read more

Store: I have a strange love for nail polish..meaning, I cant buy enough of it. Their selection is great, pricing is ..eh..moderate for the product. Their nail accessory selection tho..EXPENSIVE. $17 for speed dry nail stuff. yea dont think so! Their hair product selection is great and pricing is pretty accurate. THEIR STAFF...well...lets just say the sales girls I have encountered should keep their voices down when talking about customers and other associates! This includes the salon personnel as well. They are chatty cats as I call it. They talk about customers while they are standing right there! This is why I didnt give them more stars. Salon: I called and wanted an apt ASAP seeing as I live less then 5 mins away. The girl said they didnt have anything for 2 hours. I arrive for my apt and literally 5 stylists were sitting at the reception desk!!! There was only 1 other customer while I was there..I was thinking...YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME! MY stylist, Danni..was nice and competent at her job but I really hate it when they leave you sitting there for your color to set, ALONE. They go back and gab it up with each other...why dont you talk to your customer so shes not sitting there by herself!?! She also didn't tell me the products she used, which is too bad bc I would have bought them. They definitely need more training on customer service. read more

I grew up in Lawrence but live in Chicago now, and came back recently to see my family. I decided to get a haircut at Beauty Brands because a regular old run-of-the-mill haircut in Chicago runs me $60-80 and Beauty Brands offered a cut for $32. Steal! I was assigned Christina (Chris) for my cut. I was REALLY pleasantly surprised to find that she was fantastic! She gave me a great cut; better than I've received in Chicago, and I've visited numerous salons and paid top dollar. She was careful to keep my length (which is really important to me) and did exactly what I asked for. For $32 at Beauty Brands I got a great cut and had a really pleasant experience. Plus, I was able to pick up some hair products I needed on the way out, which was convenient. A+! Go visit Chris immediately. read more

Looks like I'm the only person who isn't going to give Beauty Brands five stars so far. After my experience, though, I can hardly be blamed. I used to get my haircuts at the Beauty Brands in Olathe, and I have always had great experiences. I went into this location two nights ago expecting the same and was sorely disappointed. I asked my stylist, Betsy, to add in some layers and get rid of my split ends. At the time I went in, my hair was down to the middle of my back. Betsy was very fun to talk to--very gregarious and friendly. The layering looked really good, and I was pretty pleased with the cut. But then she asked if I wanted her to even up my bangs. I agreed, and she started pulling more hair forward to add volume to my bangs. I had my glasses off while she was cutting, and I can barely see without them, so I really had no idea just how far she was going. By the time she was done, literally almost fifty percent of my hair was bangs. I looked like half of a Paul McCartney, and it was not a good thing. I told her I didn't like it, and she advised me to go home, see if I could make it work for a couple of days, and if I hated it to come back and she would fix it for free. When I asked her what "fixing it" would mean, she replied that it would probably have to be a pixie cut. I left the salon and trudged to my bus stop, crushed over my hair disaster. It took me about three seconds to start crying, and only slightly longer to make up my mind to turn around, go back in, and have it fixed right away. After waiting through a previously-scheduled appointment, which took about forty-five minutes, Betsy sat me back down and proceeded to cut off all my hair, giving me the shortest style I've ever had. It's now about two inches at the longest places. The only reason this isn't getting one star is that Betsy was extremely apologetic and refunded all my money, and she really did do a great job on the pixie cut. If that'd been what I went in to get, I probably could give this four or five stars, but cute or not, this is not the cut I wanted. I lost two years of patience and hair growth in about five minutes. It was easily the worst hair salon experience I've ever had. read more

My stylist's name was Jackie, and she was absolutely lovely. I came in with, basically, nightmare hair. Suuuuper long (like, down to my butt), stringy, greasy, dry scalp, etc. My hair looked like the girl from The Ring when she crawled up from the well. So, really not a good look. She somehow managed to get the greasy awfulness out, then gave me one of the best haircuts I've had, to date. I've lived in London, UK since 2013 and haven't had half as good of a haircut (and this is from relatively high-end salons that cost me an arm and a leg) as the one she gave me today. She listened to what I wanted, did me one better, and was incredibly nice to boot. Highly, highly recommended. read more

Scheduled a hair appointment with Jackie because she is one of their most experienced hair stylists and I wanted someone who knew what they were doing. When I arrived, my appointment had been switched to a new employee with no experience. They didn't explain or apologize for changing who my stylist would be. And the woman didn't introduce herself so at first I thought she was Jackie. I quickly figured out she was not. I think they switched me because I had never been to Jackie and they thought I wouldn't notice that they gave me to the new girl instead. Thanks for the bait and switch Beauty Brands. I've never had a salon change who I scheduled an appointment with. Terrible customer service on their part and I won't be back. read more

I really like the Beauty Brands services. I've had one haircut, a few eyebrow waxes, Shellac and two pedis since moving here. I have a facial scheduled for next week because I was given a 20% off a service you've never done coupon. The ladies are so nice and do a good job. I'm not a chatty person while having stuff done and they respect that. I don't buy their products because I have a manicurist license in MO so I go to the professionals only store for the same products they sell. Since most can't shop there a Beauty Brands sale is a really good deal. Since I'm a manicurist I know the horrors that can happen with a pedi and I feel totally comfortable with a Beauty Brands service. read more

Before you schedule a service ask for the price because their online "menu" is WRONG! Menu says haircolor is $46. I got a highlight for short hair and it was $84!! I feel like their site is false and/or misleading advertising. The service wasn't any better than other highlights I have had. I only went because I had a 20% off coupon. Love this place....Vic does the best job in color and cut and Tiffany does wonderful manicures. I have had the best facials also but dont remember who I used for that service. I have never had such great service. The ONLY problem with this shop is their coffee!! When going to a "spa" I do expect some decent coffee and real cream or coffee mate, not powered stuff. I went to get my eyebrows done and specifically told the girl to leave the length of my eyebrows, but she chopped at least a half inch off in a spot that has a hard time growing back. Then she had the audacity to tell me how to grow it back, not even apologizing. If you're into having only half an eyebrow, this is your place to go. Visited Hayley for a leg and underarm wax. Was charged $31 for underarms, $44 for half leg plus an additional $5 charge for my toe (which wasn't even waxed, my toe is still hairy - that charge was for "the top of my foot"). I received zero "soothing treatment" until I requested it after I had already paid my bill (figured I'd just paid 80 dollars and the brochure definitely says "soothing treatment") at which point I was rudely handed a small packet of sample (3.6ml) antiseptic cream by Hayley. I received no "consultation on pricing prior to service" and frankly was disappointed in the professionalism and customer service - one sample for 2 legs!! I felt scammed and will not be returning to Beauty Brands. read more

I always LOVE going to beuty brands they have great products, selections, and brands but I usually go with my mom when we meet up for lunch and this time I just went with my sister, as soon as we walked in the door and started looking around the beauty and makeup section we had a worker come up and asked us if she could help us with anything witch I don't mind and that was not the problem, we were just looking around and swatched some eyeshadows and a worker just stood there and watched us for a while and she asked us how old we were so we thought it was strange but we answered anyway and she kind of scoffed and said that's crazy. Which honestly didn't need to be said, then she just stayed there and watched us for a while again and whenever we would move should kind of move towards us and to just follow us and everywhere as if she thought we were going to steal something. Then after we had tried out a few of the products that we were thinking about buying The same girl came up to us and said you know we have things to apply those with and was pointing to the disposable applicators and she said because other people want to try those products to you know. And my sister said well I didn't use any of those products on my mouth or anything and my sister asked me did you and I said no I didn't but then she went on about how we need to use disposable applicators because other people wanted to use the products and she went on and on about basically the same thing. At this point before the lady came up to us I had my money in my hand was ready to purchase a product and after she said that to us I just left because I don't need to be treated that way when I'm about to give money to that place so I'll just take my business to Ulta or Sephora which I can easily do. And I'm not bagging about any other beauty brands I honestly just think that it was this beauty brands in this place in these worker because I've had very good beauty brands experiences in the past. But I most likely not going to come back to the same one ever again. read more
