If I could give zero stars I would. They gave us 2 Mississippi map turtles and after 40 days one of them passed away. But come to find out there was a spot on the shell and then the spots progressed and we did everything right, water changes, feeding. Anything that we needed to do we did it. We gave them a call and explained the situation and said ya the spots on the turtle was an indication of it being sick and they admitted to giving us a sick turtle. Our other turtle is thriving and living it's best life thank goodness. But since it was past the the 30 days they won't do anything about it or offer to give us a replacement turtle, even though they admitted to giving us a sick turtle to begin with and I had pictures to prove it. TL;DR: informative staff, willing to spend tons of time working with you. We spent well over a half hour talking Tegus, even with a busy store. You can even text them specifics if you need to. If you've got reptiles, be sure to go here for what you need. The Good: tons of reptiles, bugs, arachnids, and a decent selection of fish to choose from. Lots of terrariums, fish tanks, and other pet support options, some for the harder to find animals. The Bad: the store is pretty tiny and usually crowded with excited people (my kids included) so it can feel packed pretty quickly. The parking lot kind of sucks too, so park a ways off to prevent the stress. read more

Always check the quantity of bugs you buy regardless of what the container says!! The container of roaches said 50 large, I had bought that same quantity multiple times before and they were always very big, not so much this time. I decided to count them since they were so small and seemed so few, it turns out I was missing 8 out of the 50 I was paying for. When I called I was told that they sell them by weight, which doesn't make sense since they were so much smaller than before, and clearly fewer. When I mentioned that previous times I purchased them they were larger and more of them I was told that large Dubai are an inch long, and he doesn't have control over those bugs since he buys them prepackaged. He ended up telling me to come back and pick up the remaining 8, (only gave me 7) thankfully. Just not the most pleasant experience to have excuse after excuse given to me when the issue is that I was shorted what I had paid for. I liked going here because of their vast live feed selection. However, the man who I assume is the owner is overtly passive aggressive as soon as someone says something he doesn't like. He's nice in the "I have to be nice because you give me your money" kind of way, but nice regardless. Won't be returning, much better options online, kinder customer service as well. read more

Was very unhappy with how the staff handles conflict- people are unable to handle the reptiles before purchasing and after purchasing there is no "try it out warranty" as many reptile stores have. I tried to hold the cute little leopard gecko I got when I left the store and it was so fast it made me nervous so I went back in to see if I could exchange it for an older, slower gecko. The manager told me "no takesie backsies," talking to me like I'm a dumb blonde. I think I'll warm up to the gecko but the staff was horrible. Will never be giving them my business again. P.s. the guy who helped me also didn't run me through how to care for the gecko in full. Also the mealworms that they sold me for my turtle are all dead, i brought them straight home and put them in the fridge as usual and my turtle wont eat them because they arent moving. They wont take them back or give me live ones. You would think that for $3.00 they would choose to make a customer happy. This may be the best reptile store in San Diego in terms of quality. It's tiny--perhaps the size of a master bedroom--but it's filled to the brim of carefully curated goods specializing in niche markets like cockroach breeding, leopard gecko morphs, and exotic invertebrates. I first visited Beast Pets on a whim and was not quite...sober...yet was given time and attention despite my bumbling. A few days later, I had to pay another visit (and sober this time). The live animals are treated exceptionally. Many will emerge from their hides to check you out as their experiences with humans--in this case, the breeder, store owner, and employees--have been positive. And instead of cutting corners, they are also fed quality, nutritious feeders. Shawn, presumably the owner, is incredibly knowledgeable, experienced, and trustworthy. Really great place! The place is clean, the reptiles, fish, and invertebrates are nicely cared for, and there are lots of great supplies! No unnecessary red lights and really fair prices. The owner is way more knowledgeable than anyone at LLL reptiles by far, and has been in the hobby years. He knows where the reptiles he sells come from, and he knows how to care for them. I heard him give really great advice to one bearded dragon owner about temperature and substrate. After hearing one LLL employee tell people to cohabitate their ball pythons, I am happy to support someone who actually knows how to care for animals.
