We plan to buy more Ranchu !…read more We bought a calico Ranchu, and to our surprise, he arrived healthy and full of energy after spending nearly 48 hours in UPS transit during the 95-100°F Texas heat. We were a little worried about the long journey and extreme temperatures, but he adapted immediately and has been active, beautiful, and incredibly cute from the moment he arrived. To be honest, we were also hesitant at first because of some of the negative Google and Yelp reviews. As first-time Ranchu owners, we spent a lot of time researching breeders, but there aren't many reputable Ranchu breeders in the U.S. for this exotic goldfish. In the end, we decided to take a chance and see how this little guy would turn out despite the mixed reviews. We couldn't be happier with our decision. The fish exceeded our expectations in every way. This experience really proved the quality of this breeder. Their Ranchu are healthy, well-bred, and able to handle even a challenging shipment in the Texas summer. We are extremely satisfied and definitely plan to buy more Ranchu from them in the future. Thank you for bringing such a wonderful little fish into our home!

The 2 stars are solely because they had what I was looking for, otherwise it would be 1 star…read more I went looking for a fish with certain traits, which they had a several variations of. When I found one that I liked I asked the guy helping me out the price; he gave me a number. When I looked it up online using their code it was off: he gave me a number $15 more than their website. Had I not checked I would've overpaid. Not to mention (I found this out after I'd left) they had a 10% discount until 7/7-my purchase was made before that date; however they made no mention of this. The conditions in which the fish are kept is less than ideal. There's numerous dead fish; some of the betta's are in small jugs with another dead betta. They weren't the only fish with dead companions but it was harder to photograph the ones in bigger tanks without being seen. Definitely wouldn't recommend going there if you're looking for something that was raised in good conditions.

Beast Pets is a small shop with a huge heart. While they…read morespecialize in invertebrates and arachnids, there's no better place in San Diego for feeders, husbandry advice, and genuine customer care. Sean runs the show, and he's the real deal. When I showed up with a hatchling chameleon I had purchased elsewhere, I quickly realized I wasn't prepared to care for it properly. Sean took time out of his day to educate me, answer my questions, and even continued helping me through text messages afterward. That kind of service is rare. What's even more impressive is that I live around the corner from what's considered San Diego's premier reptile shop, yet I willingly drive 20 minutes to Beast Pets, passing plenty of other pet stores along the way. They're simply that good. Their feeder selection is outstanding and consistently healthy. They regularly stock: Hydei and melanogaster fruit flies Field crickets Soldier fly larvae Red runner roaches Dubia roaches And much more Need isopods? They've got those too. The service doesn't stop when you leave the store. When I travel, Beast Pets babysits my animals. I once left my frogs in their care for two weeks while I was on vacation, and when I came back they had practically doubled in size under Sean's care. This is what a real pet shop looks like. During the cork bark shortage caused by supply chain issues, Beast Pets somehow stayed stocked while everyone else seemed to be sold out. It's just another example of how they consistently go above and beyond. I could keep going, but at this point you'll probably think I'm on the payroll. I'm not. I'm just a customer who appreciates an amazing shop run by people who genuinely care about animals and the hobby. If you're into reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, invertebrates, or simply want trustworthy advice from people who know their stuff, Beast Pets is absolutely worth the trip.

Instead of taking the time to educate us about the beetles and explain their specific care requirements, the employee immediately assumed that we would end up killing them simply because we didn't have the proper enclosure. There is a big difference between educating customers and making them feel judged. We were there to learn, ask questions, and understand what the beetles needed, not to be criticized or made to feel unwelcome. Good customer service means being patient, respectful, and willing to help customers who are genuinely interested in learning. Unfortunately, this employee did the opposite. His rude and condescending attitude completely ruined what was supposed to be an exciting experience for my son. It's disappointing when a business loses potential customers simply because an employee cannot communicate respectfully. Very poor customer service. I would not recommend this store based on our experience, and we will not be returning.
