Swung by this morning with the intention of picking up som pies. Did that and more - they're cookies and breads are freshly baked. Bought a loaf of sourdough and dug into it as soon as I got home - you can definitely taste the freshness. Love this old school bakery! read more

This used to be a go-to bakery for us. Today, we ordered 3 large cookies and the total was over $11.00. The staff are young and not wildly interested in serving customers. A fabulous find that has been in the valley longer than the pavement on the streets, Bea's Bakery has cakes, pastries, breads and more for every occasion. We ordered a chocolate cake for young child's birthday, not only was it delicious, but the decorated bright colored balloons made all the kids happy. Lots of buttercream frosting and a great cake for the family! Disappointed :( I had high hopes for Bea's Bakery in Tarzana after hearing so much about it from friends and colleagues. Unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to the hype. First, the staff, although seemingly nice, were disconnected and didn't even really look up at me. I appreciate that the staff might have been having an off day, but they seemed distracted and not particularly interested in helping customers. It wasn't a real friendly or connected experience. I just felt like they were doing a "job".. They have a wide range of pastries, but the birthday cake I purchased was decorated beautifully, but didn't have much taste and the texture left much to be desired. Overall, I wanted to love Bea's Bakery. I know it's been around a long time and is a valley staple, but based on my visit, there are many areas for improvement. I hope they can address these concerns and offer a better experience for future patrons. read more

The most heartbreaking review I've ever made. Like many others, I've been coming here for decades. I'm not sure whether it's new ownership or what is happening, but after multiple visits over the past year, I can safely say the quality and Bea's we once knew is long gone. I was hoping it was just a one-off, bad day for the bakery, but sadly that's not the case. Cookies and cakes are stale, ingredients taste different (read: cheap oils), and customer service is lacking. I have actually spoken up to these people because I figure if they have the chutzpah (Yiddish for guts!) to speak back to the staff when all the staff was asking was for them to honor (at the time) the state-mandated mask requirement, then they had it coming. Bea's is awesome as is their staff! My only complaint recently is that they have shortened their hours and I missed out on some treats! Oh, well! Quality & taste has really gone down with the new ownership. My sis worked here (for 7+yrs) in the mid 80's when Jules (Bea's son) was the owner. The taste, size & quality were top notch! Now?...not so much. The delcos (mini size danishes) are literally bite size,if that. (they used to be 2 bites) Not only that they were rich & full of yummyness flavor. The cheese taste like nothing, the choc. chip are tiny again with little sweetness flavor. And to top it all off ..I walk into this establishment only to hear spanish music BLASTING! I mean Im all for spanish music but in the right ambiance... Im latino & understand it but not for a bakery(jewish)at that.. Well like they say..there goes the neighborhood. Mark my words before you know it they'll be selling they're "latino" style sweet bread. I guess its off to Gelsons bakery instead..we had a good run Bea's bakery!..such a shame read more

Hamentashen was large, filling extremely tasty, and eaten in one sitting, not shared. That's how good it is. Highly recommend picking this up anytime you're nearby. It's inside Mort's deli (also highly recommend) so after you finish a meal there, you can't miss the bakery when you pay at the register. read more

I took off a star because it is near impossible to call and have them answer the phone. I am so disappointed. I have been a customer for 20+years. I didn't have to know they had changed hands. I can taste it. The rugalach are too sweet and oily. Cheese pockets are not always available and my beloved linger tarts are hard as a rock and don't have enough raspberry jam. It's not a Jewish bakery anymore. It's just another bakery. The parking is convenient which is why I rated it. I hit the 2 star by mistake. It deserved only one. read more

I stopped by to get some hamentaschen for our family this weekend. Just ate a few and they were pretty terrible. Dry and hard and the fillings were all dried out. They tasted like they had been frozen for a year. So sad that this was a great bakery in the valley. We threw away our chocolate rugula and hamentaschen from Bea's bakery because they tasted like cardboard. I have never thrown out an uneaten cookie from Bea's bakery before... We couldn't understand why our favorite Jewish bakery suddenly produced such horribly tasting baked goods. Upon doing some research we realized that Bea's bakery was sold earlier this year. The old Bea's bakery was an institution - they produced tremendously delicious chocolate rugula and hamentaschen! Our family has been shopping here for over 20 years. The cookies at the new Bea's bakery lack softness, taste and substance. It's simply isn't the same. I don't see myself returning here again. As if this wasn't enough, we realized later on that the portrait of Bea's bakery founder was gone too. Under the portrait's watchful eye, the old Bea's bakery produced solid quality baked good. Now, with her portrait replaced by numerous oversized computer screens, the quality is no longer there. This is very sad. Bea's logo used to be "where quality counts." While the logo is still there at the new Bea's bakery, the quality of baked goods is gone. We threw away our chocolate rugula and hamentaschen because they tasted like cardboard. Our family has been going to Bea's for over 50 years. I moved away about 9 years ago. Recently I've been back in the Valley to help my mom with some health issues. I was so glad she was feeling up to enjoying some sweets from Bea's today. What a depressing realization we both had when we bit into our beloved Bea's black & white cookies. The ingredients are not the same or the recipe has been changed. They were flavorless. No strong taste of chocolate or vanilla. Just bland. I tried a sample of a snickerdoodle macaroon on the counter, which was awful. Ube everything. Customer service was not friendly. I googled and found out they were bought in 2022. What a shame. Why purchase a historic institution and make it inferior? So damn disappointing. Buh-bye Bea's, you were always so consistently delicious, all the good old spots are vanishing. read more

I use to work in the area and would go to Bea's frequently. I would still go every time I was in the Valley. It must have been sold to someone. I bought my usual bunch of pastries to take home. I noticed there weren't any usual people working in the bakery. When I had the pastries when I got home they were all terrible!!!! They didn't taste the way they used to. They seem to have added some kind of flower or some kind of additive to the pastries. They just didn't taste very good the almond horns weren't very good etc. The bear claws awful, I'm very disappointed and sad to see the passing of another gold standard bakery go by the wayside. read more

The cookies had clearly been put in the freezer the night before and thawed that morning. They were literally icebox cold. We ended up throwing away $30 worth of desserts because they were not good. I've been buying baked goods at Bea's for years. One of the best bakeries in the SF Valley. Love their cookies, challah bread, various cakes and pastries. I had a custom chocolate mousse cake made to order that was excellent, light, sweet, creamy and great texture with a nice frosting. Very good service and hours. They have a great selection of breads and always have some goodies to sample. It's a friendly ambiance. Their prices are better than competing bakeries like Viktor Benes. read more

I wish I can give this place less than one star. The worst staff, rude and arrogant with frowned faces. Although desserts look good, they're too sugary and absolutely NOT fresh. I ordered two slices of cake, the barista wrapped them and when I opened the box for my kids, I found the wrong item. On a different day, I ordered a coffee at 5pm, the girl gave me the cup and it wasn't hot, I told her I needed a freshly brewed coffee, she replied "I'm sorry ma'am, we only brew coffee early in the morning and keep it in thermos ". So at 5pm, I drank coffee brewed at 6am!!!! Then she offered to warm it up for me, I said ok because I needed it so bad after a long day at work, she spilled half of it while heating it up and came back with half the cup ($3.75). Been going to Bea's since it opened in 1968 when I grew up in the area. We split our time between OC and Santa Barbara now and stop in Bea's frequently. I have noticed a change in presentation but quality seems like what I am use to. I did stop last Friday and pick up some corn rye and reguelech for our friends. I asked for the reguelech to bagged and boxed. They came back in white boxes not taped closed. What happend to the pink boxes and string tied boxes? These are the small thing that diminish the brand.
