This place is well known for their chocolate (Eclair) and original shells with vanilla cream filling. Since this was my first time I tried them in the mini size. They are very inexpensive, the mini size is 0.90-0.95 cents and the large is about $2.50.The mini size itself had a good amount of delicious vanilla filling and both were equally good. I will definately come here more often for desert and get half a dozen. If you havent been here before, please go, its worth it! read more

Located inside Tokyo Central, I have passed by Beard Papa's a couple times but it was only recently that I actually purchased of their cute cream puffs. They have mini cream puffs for $1.00 and you can get a box of 6 mixed large cream puffs for $18. That day the flavors were strawberry, green tea and chocolate. There cream puffs really are delightful. They are so soft and the cream inside is not overwhelmingly sweet. A long standing dessert spot inside of Tokyo Central. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember and every time the cream puffs are comforting and oh so delightful! It's a tiny little spot and the staff friendly. You can choose from a variety of flavors and occasionally there will be a seasonal special filling that's always a nice change of pace. I'm a pretty vanilla person so I usually opt for the basic cream puff with the vanilla custard. It's amazing, trust me. But the matcha and strawberry are always delish. I am glad I don't live closer because I'd be here way too often. I'm glad it's cash only, because I rarely have cash on me when my family makes impulse stops at Tokyo Central where this is located. It's a super tiny shop in a little food court. The puffs are freshly pumped with the flavor of cream you choose. I stick with classic cream for my chocolate-glazed puff. The chocolate is dark and laid on super thick. This place has pretty much ruined all other cream puffs for me, as those are pre-filled, chilled (gasp!) and not nearly as fresh. Highly recommended. I heard about Beard Papa from a coworker in New York. She stated that she really missed the delicious Beard Papa cream puffs as they are not in the East Coast. Photos of their cream puffs have been posted online by social networking friends numerous times and they have always been highly praised as some of the best available. The claims did not disappoint. Now this location inside the Marukai is my must stop by after hakata ramen! I try to be good and only eat one but this time I ate two easily. It's so light and yummy, I couldn't believe I ate two so fast. I try to order different flavor each time but I tend to gravitate towards my favorite coffee flavor. I liked their original, matcha green tea and strawberry. Before I started writing this review, I went to to company website to see how many stores they have worldwide, there I learned a store in the Middle East sells dates flavor. I am thinking how can I make a reason to be there, and stop by to taste dates flavor! Yes, they are against my diets, but I only get to eat when I visit somewhere with beard papa's store! The service is OK and the cream pastries are delicious, however all the posters and ads showing in background are misleading. Many of the drinks and pastries are not sold at that store, so it's basically useless to have them. During certain seasons they post up different kinds of drinks and pastries but never have them. I've been eyeing this place for a long time since I first read about it on Yelp and was so disappointed a few months ago when I went looking for it at the WRONG Marukai!!! =( So, I was finally in the area, well sort of. Would I be a fatty if I admitted I made a special trip for cream puffs? Probably. Ok so I did! But if you sampled these huge cream puffs on steriods piped in front of you with freshly made custard creme you would, too! The creme is not from a tub, like most other bakeries use to fill their creme puffs. There's something truly wrong and irreparably damaging about sitting down to enjoy your "freshly made" creme puff and later discovering stacked tubs labeled "custard" in the back kitchen. Same goes for tubs of mac salad and coleslaw - just about anything from a tub turns me off! But I digress... The creme in THESE puffs appear to be made at the bakery, as they pipe your puffs in front of you from a big bowl of freshly whipped creme. If that isn't convincing enough, one can tell by tasting. It doesn't have the perfectly factory-processed consistency of cream from The Tub, though it is wonderfully smooth. More importantly, when you bite into your puff, you notice flecks of what appear to be dirt but behold! That, my friends, is REAL vanilla from REAL vanilla beans! Topped with a light sprinkle of powdered sugar. Today I purchased a dozen mini eclairs. Filled to order as always running 13.50$ They have seasonal cream fillings such as Chocolate, Matcha and Strawberry wich have a discount when ordered in 6 or 12 pieces. If you have never had an eclair or you have you must go to Beard Papas in Gardena. The chocolate eclairs are the bomb. You cannot get just one. The owner is so sweet. Walk in to the Tokyo Central store. For highest efficiency of steps, use the doors on the right as you face the storefront. Otherwise, enter the store and head to the right of the cash registers, to the food court. Beard Papa's is the 2nd stall to your left. Their cream puff shells are light and crisp. The vanilla cream filling is delicious and not too sweet. I have not tried the other flavors. They fill your cream puffs when you order, to ensure that the shells stay crispy. They are best when eaten immediately. The crispness will not last long. If you plan to transport them some distance, bring an ice chest. Refrigerate if you need to keep them overnight, which I have done, they are OK, but after that they will lose the flavor and airiness. To me, the plain shells keep their crispiness longer than the chocolate covered ones. I like the mini's because I like more crusty shell than cream, and they are easier to eat (less of my typical mess). Mini's are also better for portion control, but estimate at least 2-3 per person because you cannot eat just one. The larger cream puffs or full size eclairs are good for those who like more cream filling, proportionally. read more

The beard may need to be trimmed. As Beard Papa continues to grow and add more locations, the quality of the franchises is becoming inconsistent. Seeing Beard Papa in the Marukai Pacific Square Food Court still got me excited like a little kid seeing Mickey at Disneyland. My wife was like, "Calm down. After dinner, honey." She's so patient with me. Of course, she was hoping I'd forget all about it after eating dinner. Haha. No way. Not when Beard Papa is involved. It was Sunday, so I got Strawberry Cream Puffs. The mix of Strawberry Puree and Custard Cream was oozing out the puffs from multiple sides. The flavor was still the same blissful hallucinogenic stuff dreams are made of. The puff exterior didn't seem to be the freshest. My hunch is that because the Beard Papa food stand was so slow that they were old. Our whole time at the food court area, we were the only customer that hit Beard Papa. Maybe Sunday nights are just slow. Is Beard Papa's still seductively sweet and yummy? Oh, you betcha!
