This review is way overdue. I took my son to Shelby for ISR in 2019. My personal experience with…read moreShelby was not a good one. Granted, it was her first time doing ISR, but she was not my cup of tea. When you are working with babies and children, I feel like you should have a kind way about you... you should ENJOY working with children or you shouldn't be doing so. When working with my son, she became easily frustrated and it was plainly evident. It was evident to my (at the time) 10 month old, as well. It affected his entire experience and outcome. The thing that REALLY rubbed me the wrong way was the fact that when I turned on my camera to video my son floating, she became sweet as pie. Her whole demeanor changed; the frustration left her face, the tone of her voice changed, she played with him, did "look at the bubbles!", etc. completely fake. And then as soon as my phone went down, she reverted back to the cold, uncaring person she was before. Harsh review, I know, but it's the truth. I would not take my children back and would strongly advise friends and family to seek lessons elsewhere.

Although we don't have a pool at home, we have relatives with pools and we love to take the kayaks out on the water. Now that my son was walking, I wanted to make sure I took the necessary precautions before subjecting my son to a potentially dangerous situation. Long story short, we came across Delta Babies and I contacted Shelby to see what options we had. She responded right away and offered her available spots for the next season. We were provided a ton of information on the ISR program and the benefits it has and signed our son up right away. I was thankful she was able to fit us in, on such short notice (her schedule fills up quick)! For the first few weeks, my son cried the entire time, which I guess is normal for some kids. After about week 3, he was actually practicing his floats and rotations in the tub on his own. I love that Shelby will work with kids that need additonal time at no charge! Our son finished the float course and we have him enrolled in the next course which starts in a few weeks. I've asked him if he wants to go swim with Shelby again and he now says "Yah, Sha-Bee". I honestly have nothing bad to say about Shelby. She is an amazing instructor, very outgoing, and is great with kids. I'm so glad we found her!

I wish I checked her yelp page before I paid her because clearly I am not the first person she pulled this fraud on. She had done it before and looks like she is a professional at. I found her on superproof app. Lisa had her website listed so I went to check it out and she immediately pinged me on it. She was very friendly. She asked me to pay upfront for all 3 classes including the travel fees. Even though, she was insisting, I said I was willing to pay for 1 class first and go from there. She agreed to it. She said her cashapp is having issues but asked me to send it to her son's Zelle account. I did hesitate it at the beginning but thought who would want to risk their business to scam someone for one class fee. Well I guess, someone like Lisa would. I decided to pay and book her. I sent her son the money as requested. I even sent her $1 first to test if its the right account and sent her the rest. On the day of the lesson, I texted her to confirm and then she said you have to pay in full to book her. I said I paid in full for 1 class so why not do that class first. I provided my phone number to her for future communication but she still was sending me messages via her website which I don't get notifications for, so I missed the message she sent asking me for full payment. On the day of the class, when it was clear to me that she won't be coming anymore, I asked her to refund and she agreed to it. However, it's been over 3 weeks and no refund and she won't answer my calls nor text. Her son's Zelle account is also disconnected. SO BEWARE and STAY AWAY! I have screenshots of her text messages saying she will refund and me following up multiple times.

He enjoyed his lessons so much. My second child is still a student there and tbe staff is so patient with her. This is the only program to teach special needs kids to swim that doesn't charge an obscene amount of money for less. Everything for our kids is always more expensive so I appreciate this program. The people there are patient and accommodating, especially considering they also have to deal with some parents with unrealistic expectations and a lack of understanding. I recommend this program all the time I brag to my family about how well my kids are doing. Take some of the negative reviews with a grain of salt. One in particular because this parent changed the wording of their review on this platform but im posting the other one they left. Which points out exactly why they were asked to leave. Race related Comments are unacceptable and shame on this parent for going there and then making it seem like it was the programs fault. How dare you! Own your own mistakes and your own racism work on YOURSELF before you go risking MY child's program because you can't control yourself.

In one lesson, Cyndi had on my side, one hand LOOSELY on the board, and switching arms. By the middle of the second lesson, I was actually swimming - kickboard free! I'm 4 lessons in and I can tread water, I can float, and I can swim all the way across the university pool! It literally feels like a miracle! She's got such a wide array of techniques that any time I don't understand or I can't quite get my body to do, she has another trick up her sleeve and can say it to me in a way that my brain and body understand and I'm able to do execute. Don't get me wrong - it's WORK to learn to swim when you're an adult! - but Cyndi is so confident in both her ability to teach AND in my ability to learn that I find it's easy to trust her words and believe enough to try new things. Thank you Cyndi! You helped me move from feeling like a beached to feeling more like a!

We continued lessons when my daughter turned 4, she was a bit nervous but still learned the basics. We absolutely love Cyndie's patience, compassion, skill set, fun and joy while teaching. She helped my kids feel comfortable and as a result, they love the water and we will continue to go to her!

Staff is generally…read morefriendly; however, it seems they lack follow through on keeping the gym tidy and enforcing gym etiquette. This is a really busy gym, so I understand it can be challenging to keep up, but the majority of the members here don't rerack weights or wipe down equipment. Management needs to take this into consideration and either be more strict about enforcing rules or hire more people to stay on top of cleanliness on the gym floor. I've lost count of how many times I've had to rerack multiple 45s that were left by a person before me. Going anytime past 4pm will guarantee you encounter people working out in large groups and camping out on machines for 30 mins or more due to being there to socialize more than actually working out. There are constantly people rough housing and nearly bumping into you on the turf, weights scattered all over the floor, and men yelling obnoxiously and claiming multiple machines at once. It makes getting a quick work out in challenging, and really limits the times I feel comfortable going here. The only way to avoid behavior like this is to go really early in the morning or on weekends because the staff does nothing to address it. I've considered switching to a more expensive gym just for the sake of having a larger window of time to work out comfortably. Unfortunately, the entry level price point attracts inconsiderate patrons, so I wouldn't be opposed to a base price increase to weed out some of the more unserious people. Overall, the biggest downfall of this gym is the lack of enforcement because it truly has potential to be the best gym in town if something is done to manage some of the problematic behavior from patrons.
