Very upsetting this morning. I spend a lot of money at this place on a weekly basis. But today they got it very wrong and I'm quite upset!!! I usually order my coffee and sometimes a sandwich online through GrubHub. I'm rushing for work and I pick up my drink and my sandwich. As I'm exiting the door, I realize there is whipped cream on my drink. I start to double back, but I do not have time. Figured I just go ahead and scrape it off when I get to the office. That was upsetting. As hungry as I was, I wanted to take a bite of my sandwich. And realized there was an off taste. There was some sort of dressing on my sandwich! As you can see in my order, I requested no whip cream, an extra shot of espresso, no dressing, aïoli, or mayo on my sandwich. I got some dressing up some sort! Totally inedible. I don't like dressing on my sandwiches. Someone else may like it, but I don't! I get to the office to scrape off the melting whip cream. I taste my coffee. There's no extra shot of espresso that I ordered! Reading is fundamenta!. I can't believe everything is blatantly instructed and everything was wrong at the same time. Not the best way to start a Monday morning. Now I'm hungry and can I get my coffee. I had to give this away. I didn't have a heart to throw it away. please do better Beanery!! read more

I found myself at The Beanery one early morning before heading to a long work shift. I really appreciate that it opens quite early and has a set space for people to work at and enjoy their morning coffee. The drinks here come at a fair price for high quality. While there isn't a lot designated to park at, you can find parking along the streets when it isn't a big commute hour. For those who enjoy things with a little kick, I'd recommend trying the Mayan mocha, which has a some spiciness to it. My current seasonal favorite is the peppermint mocha, mainly because it's not as sweet as most places make. Food wise, I LOVE their spicy chicken panini. It's so flavorful! Whenever I'm on the go though, I usually get their almond croissant, which is soft and tasty and best served heated! read more

What does The Beanery NOT have. I love this place and wish it was closer to me. I love their breakfast goods, pastries, and coffee. I recently got a breakfast sandwich with ham, egg, on a croissant and added tomato. SO good. And Vietnamese coffee. Iced mocha. Banana Bread, Zuchini bread! They have so much more I haven't tried and want. There are a few spots to sit outside (socially distant) and enjoy yourself. Next time I want to try and order ahead to avoid the lines. read more

My Coworker told me about this place that has the best coffee in town and they do the dark roast is great I've had tried different coffees and it doesn't compare to the beanery in Alameda I make I'm here every morning to get my fix..lol the egg and swiss bagel sandwich is pretty good I always get with spinach since I don't eat pork I've only been coming here for about a week and there is always a lot of people here so that should tell you about the beanery A++ read more

I made an impromptu stop at The Market Place and decided to give The Beanery a try for my morning coffee. The Beanery roast their own coffee and has long been established in the Bay Area. My Cortado was done well, roast was medium on the coffee which made for a great flavor. My husband got the Spicy chicken panini and was sorely disappointed, he called it a "sloppy Joe." I ordered the Avocado bagel in an everything bagel. Overall, things were good- nothing that stood out as unique or special. The baristas were full of early morning smiles and friendly, so that was nice service. There were tables inside and outside and the market store was wonderful. read more

The Beanery Coffee House is conveniently located in the Alameda Marketplace right next to Alameda Natural Grocery. They use Organic Fair Trade Certified Coffee. For herbal teas they have an assortment of Numi teas & Stash teas. I have enjoyed Rooibos here by the cup or even shared a pot w/ a friend before. Besides hot drinks they have bagels, cold sandwiches, & hot sandwiches. They also have a Mediterranean Sampler that is vegan for $8.25 that my friend once ordered that looked good. I have enjoyed their Vegan Zucchini Carrot Bread that is $2.50. They also have Gluten-free/vegan Chocolate Chip & Oatmeal Raisin Klippy's cookies for $3 each. Iv'e been coming here off and on for the last 10 years. Over the course of the pandemic not as much (for obvious reasons). Not sure if there was a change in ownership (as the staff are all very new to me) but the customer service is completely lacking now. All in all the quality of food has stayed the same but just general niceties, patience and overall friendly attitude has gone away. Which is sad, as that's what adds to the islands charm. read more

I really love the food here (special mention for the breakfast sandwiches and the jambon beurre sandwiches). The staff has always been very lovely, but the coffee is a bit inconsistent in quality, and it's not the speediest operation. A leisurely pace and an emphasize on quality prep can be a beautiful thing in a nice coffee place, so I have mixed feelings about this, but I sometimes just want to grab a latte on my way off the island, and The Beanery can sometimes take a while. Their house espresso is fantastic!! Every person I have steered to The Beanery for espresso based drinks have been hooked. I've been so disappointed with all these fancy hipster overpriced coffee joints in the Bay Area like blue bottle, four barrel, and saint franks, etc...usually the milk seems to overpower the espresso and you don't get that aroma and rich espresso taste...all you taste is milk and the drink turns out lukewarm. I say to myself "wow, that small lackluster gulp was $6.75?!" Well, after ordering 30 times here, I can confidently say that if you like coffee, you will appreciate what they do so well here and you'll also be pleasantly surprised that their prices are reasonable. Their iced oat milk or soy milk lattes actually have foam that lingers to the last sip. It's an ACTUAL iced latte, not just cold milk with espresso poured on top. Their extra hot lattes are so aromatic and smooth for a cold day. Their sandwiches are also great. Get the Veggie organic on the Italian roll or Baguette. If you get it on the Italian roll you'll notice they pack in sooooo much veggies, avocado, along with cheese and that delicious house dressing it's like having a bowl of mixed green salad on the side. I love it! It is so great to see a business take their coffee and food offerings so seriously and producing better than high end restaurant quality for such a reasonable cost. Really, how many "fancy" Bay Area/SF places have I ordered sandwiches and coffee at only to receive vending machine quality skimpy and messy food orders for $14 and stale tasting poor quality roasts for $6+ small cup?? Coffee is great! They serve both hot and cold coffee. The beauty of this café is it's right near a market store that has food available like soups, Mediterranean style salads, and sushi if you're not in the mood for pastries/sandwiches/bagel-bagel sandwiches. I ordered a caramel latte, it was a beauty!! Both with taste and the visuals were amazing! The indoor seating area is great, but the outdoor seating area is a slight bummer. Tables are outside, and there is no form of heat if you choose to sit out on a cold day, while the indoor area is packed. My favorite cafe in Alameda! The food is delicious, I love their breakfast sandwiches, paninis, and lunch plates. Their beverages are high quality and the service is really friendly. The Beanery is an independent coffee house located inside the Alameda Marketplace on Park Street. The best parking strategy is to park within the Marketplace lot, immediately south of the Beanery, off Park. With two entrances, both from within the Marketplace and from Park St, their hours can start before the Marketplace is open. However, they close at 7 PM. The Beanery sells its own coffee beans, with the roaster right within the store. Quite a variety of options: coffee and other hot drinks, espresso, iced coffees, frapes, smoothies, breakfast items, hot/cold sandwiches - even a spicy chicken plate! I had the Iced Carmel Frape, and it was deelicious! My wife loved the Pear Almond Bar pastry. Very nice seating area, with well spaced tables -- it was fairly empty when we were there on a mid-Sunday afternoon, but it sounds like it can be quite hectic at peak times. I liked the clever glass-covered coffee beans tables, quite creative. A good place in Alameda for that coffee stop. read more

Curious experience here the other morning--curious, as in forgot my wallet (which houses that darned plastic) and managed to dig up on $3 in my purse. I had ordered a small nf latte and downgraded from fresh almond croissant to day-old one (50% savings)... And though the flavor and strength of the espresso drink was forgettable, and though the barista skill of the steamed milk was also lacking (overall a 'perfunctory; latte, and does the job for its assumed intention), I rate this place a 4 star-er because of what took place. She offered that I stick with my original order, get anything I wanted, and just pay her tomorrow. What trust... what neighborhood bonds of the Alamedans (of which I was one, over a decade ago). She offered this gesture of pure kindness: twice. I still come here every week when I do laundry to pick up their smoothies, slushes, or whatever frozen they have. My boyfriend loves the Thai tea freeze and I love the lemon strawberry. It just be so juicy and sweet it feels like I'm drinking WAP, but I have a boyfriend so LMAO. I also love their coffee! Whenever I'm feeling extra lazy or depressed I just order a hot macchiato and it brings me to those good energies and helps me finish my task or errands I have for the rest of the day. This dark roast fan has always enjoyed buying beans when I travel but this year I've instead ordered from leading artisan coffee roasters across the country. Yes, I am an adventurer at heart and it's been fun but over the years I keep going back to The Beanery's house blend. Last month I decided to stick with what I know and love. The coffee is reason alone to visit but you'll want to grab a bakery item or sandwich too. My other half loves their bagel and lox, deeming it a best-in-class in the Bay Area. Four stores: 1650 Park St. Alameda, 2925 College Ave Berkeley and two in SF: 1307 9th ave and 602 Irving St. Ambiance: Visually interesting table tops of coffee beans through glass. Tall open ceiling in a chic infustrial space. Big windows, lots of light. I'm looking out the window toward McGees to see the type of people who drink at 5pm on Sunday (also happens to be mothers day). Clientele: Young people some on laptops and health conscious crowds who always remember to bring their reusable bags to the specialty market next door. Food/drink: Large selection of pasteries. Everything is great. Only one dark roast drip coffee available at the moment. Brown sugar and honey or agave? not sure didnt use it and half and half available. I've always seen everyone who works there wearing masks properly. That line moves swiftly even when there's a few people in it. It would be nice if you had access to more outdoor space to allow patio patrons to spread out more and give more space around the door, but I wouldn't want the convenient parking to be sacrificed or anything. I came here for a coffee and left happy with a coffee and grilled cheese! The Beanery is located inside a marketplace, but you can see if from the street and they have a cute little patio as well. I got an iced vanilla coffee which was pretty good and a grilled cheese for breakfast (don't judge me). I got the Little Italy which had pesto and provolone cheese that stretches when you pull it apart like a beautiful grilled cheese should. It was simple (had onions in it as well), and the bread was toasted well and it was really good. Overall, I had a good breakfast and would come back to try some other items. read more

To start, I was so disappointed when I saw my hubby come home with a cup of dark roast coffee from The Beanery. My first thought was why did he get lazy and didn't want to walk down the block for coffee from Coffee Cultures? Every time we grab coffee, especially places that don't particularly specialize in espresso drinks, it almost always taste sour, acidic, or extremely bitter. My expectations were so low, I spooned a few spoons into a small jar and added oat milk to quickly get my coffee fix. First sip, wha..am I dreaming? Second sip, hmm, good coffee. Smooth and balance. This $3 medium 16 oz dark roast coffee isn't your typical cheap cup of joe. It's more like a cup of coffee that should be served in a cute ceramic cup with some fresh organic milk. I honestly wouldn't mind paying $5-6 for this baby. I was so intrigued as to what brand of coffee bean, I called them twice until someone picked up. She proceeded to tell me that the beanery roast their own beans and it's organic! Really!? Wow! Shocked, but then I also remembered the times I've sat at their dining area and the tables show cased coffee beans and there's a roasting machines near the front (probably some vintage roaster for show). Customer service seems to lack here plus they have problems with online orders. I just waited 30 minutes for an online latte order and even after I reminded them about it there was no clear communication about what went wrong and I was made to feel like I was bugging them even asking about it. I'm left wondering if the online order system just is inconsistent. Waiting is line to order also takes a long time. If you have time to spare, the coffee here is good. I ordered a breakfast crossant sandwhich from their coffee shop that they have in the front and it was gross. They microwaved the egg - they have no stove -- gross -- and burned it and gave me an over toasted hard crossaint with microwaved eggs and spinach. It was digusting and I was upset because it cost $8... down the drain. Would not reccomend their food. read more

Hands down my favorite coffee shop/cafe in alameda. :) Plenty of tables to sit and hang out (although it can fill up pretty quick as this is a very popular place). I come in here at least once a week and I'm never disappointed. The service is great and fast. The people who work here are super nice and friendly too! Their coffee is excellent and they are accustomed to making your drink exactly how you want it - I've seen people get very specific/particular about how much latte foam they want and the employees don't even flinch. The food is great too! Besides the usual pastries and bagels, they also have hot or cold sandwiches that they make fresh once you order it. My sister's favorite is the hummus/tomato/cucumber bagel sandwich. Its very fresh and light - vegan friendly too. I usually get the san francisco bagel sandwich - cream cheese/tomato/bacon. There's also plenty of egg sandwiches to choose from (although I think the egg-to-bread ratio is off. there's wayyy too much egg). The avocado bagel sandwich is great too although it's a little hard to bite into and can get really messy - but its worth it. ;) Quality/Location/Service - you really can't find a better cafe in alameda. read more
