We stayed in room 204 on Thanksgiving weekend. The hotel was lovely and quaint, clean and not noisy for us despite some reviews. We are city people and are okay with the odd recycling truck stopping on the street, though. Which they did do in the early morning hours. The showers had lovely soaps, the room temp controlled by you. Lighting is indirect and is fabulously not pot lights that blind you. The street view of Charles was ideal. Heard guests in the hallway once at 10am. We were able to check in at 11 on a Friday. Very nice.
We checked out a little late (noon) on Sunday. Latest checkout is 12 or 12:30. The breakfasts were quite nice and the restaurant was just fine for our needs. We cancelled breakfast elsewhere since it is included and delicious. Servers are a tad unhappy to be there (not rude though), but who knows why. Maybe (like me back in the day) they don't totally love being a waiter in the morning on Thanksgiving weekend. If you are looking for amazing service for your basic bistro breakfast, this is not for you, however, if you are just looking for a great view/vibe/lighting/proximity to beacon hill and good food, it works. Other notes: some mild water marks in bathroom on the ceiling... No water bottles in the room. No fridge. No ice? Not sure.
Amazing front desk staff - SO polite and friendly. Lindt chocolates on the desk... Good pillows, nice down comforters that are not too thick or heavy, simple room design that is functional (night light switch in bathroom, heat fan in bathroom, big towels, storage for toiletries, small TV on wall, cubbies by the bed, occasional chairsx2, desk phone, shutters that work, windows that open to street, good for sleeping (we are parents on a trip w/out baby... Sleeping was important)... Take earplugs though (why not).
I will for SURE be back here - the street is adorable and quiet, you can walk anywhere in an hour (including MIT/Harvard), you are near enough to walk to the Boston common, back bay, public garden, revere house, freedom trail, Louisberg square, north end, Fanieul hall, city hall, granary burial ground, holocaust memorial, south end, etc if you like to walk around 20k per day on city trips.
I looked at other hotels for hours -XV Beacon, boxer, Liberty, Charles St, Ames, Lennox, Four Seasons, ALL OF THEM - and this was the one that looked best due to location, walkability, quiet rooms, no renovations, not highway robbery, and historical resonance. It lived up to all my hopes and expectations.
THANKS, Beacon Hill Hotel for being so amazing. We are also big fans of amazing food and loved nearby Tatte bakery, Haley Henry Wine Bar, Upper Crust Pizza, B&G Oysters, the Hourly, then Alden and Harlow in Cambridge, and the Sinclair for a nice concert out. We loved watching rowers row the Charles, seeing MIT chapel, the Harvard square shopping, local record shops, the skating at the frog pond, the public gardens, and Newbury street shops. All accessible by foot (with occasional cabs late night) from this hotel.
I would recommend this hotel for people who do not need to be fawned all over, who love to get a good sleep, who walk a lot, and who are interested in history/heritage areas. read more
