My curiosity stroked and decided to check this place out. For those who doesn't know what Lou Mei is, it is the Cantonese name given to dishes made by simmering in a sauce known as a master stock or brown sauce (鹵水, 滷汁). It is part of teochew cuisine and can be made from meat or internal organs. How to order: As you are waiting in line, a guy will come up to you and take the order and you just pay the cashier when your order is ready. They sell by catty (斤) or tael (兩) so you need to know exactly how much you want. Food: I ordered the following items: 1. Cuttlefish 2. Tofu 3. Duck wings 4. Duck feet 5. Sliced duck 6. Gizzards Everything tasted amazing and you know it's good when my 83 year old grandma gave the approval nod. She is extremely critical when it comes to food and gave 9 stars out of 10 and praised how flavorful the seasoning and Lou Mei sauce was. Because the meat stuff they sell is out of this world, at least I haven't had anything better yet in this city. And the line in front of the store can explain that. The good and easy thing about these places is that all you need to do is to show up. They sell everything including food, utensils and drinks. You don't have to haul anything here, or do any prep at all. Except for the fact that Hong Kong-style BBQ is more do it yourself (think long prongs over fire, like a boy scout would do), there is almost no work involved. On the other hand, I actually prefer to not just stare at people, their kids and their dogs when I'm by a beach. Again, Hong Kong is very crowded, but there are BBQ areas that are a bit less accessible and a lot more scenic out in the country parks. As long as you are willing to go out of your way for a little bit, and haul your foodstuff in, you will be rewarded. Those trips are my fondest memories growing up and this isn't remotely a fair representation of that. If you crave BBQ and must have it, then maybe this is ok. But why settle? The best things in life are things you have to work for.

However, its market has been renovated and now it has been "modernized" and now it has this rather fancy looking place inside the wet market. I have to say that it has the typical Siu Mei place - meats hanging at the windows while dripping juices. There are not that many choices here. As one expects, you can choose from Cha Siu, chicken, duck all kind of Siu Mei and I am rather impressed with the price range. It is less than HKD$30 and if you are a student wearing school uniform - you are in luck as that only costs HKD$20 (How I wish I was still a student). Most people come here to order take away food; but there is a small place with air conditioning where you can sit and enjoy your meal there. Its décor is rather traditional which surprised me quite a lot frankly because most places here do not spend that much on its decoration. Anyways, this is definitely a nice place to have a quick meal. A place like this that is clean and its tasty food is hard to come by nowadays.
