Super disappointed and offended. UPDATE on my previous 5 Star review.. I spend approximately $200 per month coming here each weekday for lunch and coffee, and yet the owner treated me very unprofessionally and very rudely today. I will not be returning. I see the owner of this business sitting alone at one of the three LARGE tables almost daily using his computer, and I usually sit at an adjacent table to do work for college on my computer. I always promptly buy food and drink before and throughout the time that I utilize the coffee shop. Today when I was ordering, before I even finished, the owner very awkwardly interrupted me and told me to start sitting at a different table so that "other people wouldn't feel weird" sitting next to me at the group tables. I was confused because there are usually table markers that state that if you are going to use your computer, to sit at a community table so that others can also work there. I asked him if that was correct and apologized and he very rudely told me that "no one would feel comfortable sitting next to me as a stranger," which was strange since I had been sitting with a stranger at that very table while he was speaking to me. I awkwardly paid, sat down, and watched him go sit down at his computer at the adjacent LARGE table with another person also utilizing their computer. Needless to say, I didn't stay to eat my food, got up and left. I never leave bad reviews and I love the people that work here in the kitchen, they are wonderful and kind, even though they are overworked and understaffed. Food takes usually 25 mins to reach my table each day. Bottom line, no one understands the seating arrangement, and to awkwardly approach customers telling them to move due to your poor utilization of space is unprofessional and intensely awkward. I'll sadly have to find a new coffee corner/cafe. Don't spend your money here. read more

Been coming here since they opened a few years ago and, for some reason, I've never reviewed it -- it's about time! First thing I gotta say: Pour-over Coffee! Pantomime! If you've never been there before you're probably like "WTF..?!". Well, first of all, their drink specialty is pour-over coffee, and it is truly wonderful -- and they work with a great roasting company (forgot name) who has slightly unusual names for their beans, one of which is Pantomime -- and, folks, it is totally DA BOMB! Just an amazing coffee, one of the best I've had in my life. As a matter of fact, I used to go regularly to Philz and get Silken Splendor. But this Pantomime? Clobbers it on taste and finish! Beach Monkey also has terrific acai bowls, which I get occasionally, a great spicy chicken banh mi, and I particularly love their breakfast sandwich made with green onion butter, cheddar, and an excellent bacon -- and they put it on a ciabatta roll, nice touch. Also got delicious fresh OJ and a nice selection of bagels (before they sell out, which sometimes can be relatively early). Peeps at the counter are great (and put up with my special requests!), and prices very reasonable -- especially compared to a couple of new coffee places in town who should be ashamed of themselves for charging a large-sized price for a small-sized cup! If there is one area of improvement I can offer: I wish they had a larger selection of pastries. They generally have in-house-made croissants and danish which, no fault of theirs, are simply not my thing. If they had some items like bran muffins (Mazetti's..?!?) and a few other heartier goodies, I'd be buying them regularly with my Pantomime and OJ, rather than settling for my Pepperidge Farm Brussels cookies from home. But, great job, guys -- a true winner of a business in our community (and, unfortunately, I can't say that about every single business here). read more

Literally the best bagel breakfast sandwiches in the Bay Area! I can't get over how perfectly cooked and fluffy the eggs are--that's never the case anywhere else, usually the outer edges are burnt/dry, however here they have mastered their way of cooking the eggs. And if you like ham on your breakfast sandwich they use REAL ham, not that over processed, prepackaged square ham that every other places uses. We were a little underwhelmed at options in the immediate area for a post-beach/hike snack, but Beach Monkey looked like the best of the bunch. Of course only after we ordered did we notice the sign that our food would take 30 minutes. It was okay, we weren't quite hangry and there was an empty table to chill at. Once I cleaned up the dirty sticky table we relaxed on in. Order up for my Sweeney Ridge portobello sandwich on a ciabatta roll, which was comically small, and much like my boo's breakfast sandwich but without the eggs or meat and nearly twice the price. Beach Monkey started my Açaí addiction, which meant me trying tons of Açaí/Smoothie bowl places. To be quite honest Beach Monkeys Açaí is out of this world. I hope they do not change their recipes or granola blend. (Especially since I have DF & GF allergies) I will admit their prices are a bit high, but I'll still purchase for the deliciousness. They recently got a new owner and their customer service has improved BIG time. Before their customer service was lacking a bit in the friendliness category. The place is nice inside, quiet and comfortable. My only negative is the hours they are open, they have been switching there opening and closing hours quite frequently. Now they are closed weekends which is a HUGE disappointment. Always call to make sure they are open because there's been a few times I've arrived and the owner decided not to open, even though they were supposed to be. Overall a incredible place! read more

Well, this was our second time Coming here. Our first time was great. That was 9 months ago. Today was a different experience unfortunately. Our Order was taken and we told her that it was for here. Everything was served as if it was to go. Our oatmeal was cold and they put raisins when we asked not to. They took our bowl, picked the raisins out, and returned our bowl pretty messy. This is a local joint with ok everything. Ok coffee, ok food, ok oatmeal, ok acai bowl (maybe above average so better than ok), and ok service. I used to stop in about once or twice a week for a coffee run or an acai bowl. The service is pretty courteous once you get to know the staff a bit. I don't always choose to go there b/c the service tends to be slow and sometimes really inconsistent. I recently stopped in to pick up lunch and waited 40 min only to be told that they forgot to put in the order for my food. I was one of four patrons in the cafe at the time! When I made a fuss, they offered to refund me (instead of keep waiting for my food). No apology, no offer to comp the transaction. I left a bit speechless about my experience, not in a good way. My friends like this place a lot and often want to meet up here for get togethers. Unfortunately, it will be quite a while before I work up my desire to stop by here again. read more

I spend about $1300-1400a year here. The seating arrangement is confusing and owner has asked me to move to smaller table in past. A very Reasonable request. There was once signs on tables requesting this. They are now gone and people are confused about what's a medium or big table? The owner will sometime ask solo work from home people to move another table but not others? This is puzzling? There is Im a Fellow small Business owner for 10 years. I always give a fellow business owner the benefit of the doubt. I can no longer do this. The women who manages the place is wonderful and very professional. She works really hard and this review reflects mostly the owner. In my estimation she cares more for the shop then anyone. Customers complain audible for wait times. This i'm sympathetic to but its an ongoing thing. The Owner is friendly with some people and completely awkward with people he is not friends with. It's a very weird thing to witness in person and its feels like a living room. He asked me to move to another table which I'm more than happy to do. I was told i'm taking up room. I pointed out a few others that are taking up far more room than me who have not been told? Again, I said to the owner please tell me what to do to help you. I'm literally saying "Tell me what to do and I will do it". I voiced a few complaints I have witnessed and offered to speak in private about them. The owner made it very weird and uncomfortable and made it very clear he did not wish to hear feedback. He complained I only buy a coffee each time I come. Saying that to customer is a violation of customer service and not knowing the lifetime value of a customer is short sighted. Well here is what I spend in detail.. Large $4 coffee x280 days You know those buy 9 get one free cards? Mine get filled. I spend close to 1400 a year here. In almost every interaction with me he has been either aloof or rude. He rarely says thank you to his staff. When they come in he greets certain ones aloof and others he lights up His college age staff complains about him when he is not there. If thats not a major RED FLAG? Why do I notice this? My business coach has me taking customer service training courses and Service based leadership for team training. Could the owner benefit from similar training? I want local Pacifica businesses to thrive and support them. One positive came out of this. Another customer asked me what's " that all about ?" I saw that he didn't have any drink. I bought him a coffee and introduced myself and we become friends. A local pastor. I will take my business else where. Lots of other coffee shops in City. Pros: The ambience is pretty cool and there are a few nice tables and chairs that you can do some work if needed. The staff is overall pretty nice. The smoothie is pretty average. Cons: this service is beyond slow. Even when it was not very busy, there were mixed up orders and we were never addressed or called when our drink was ready. I probably waited over 30 minutes for a smoothie. That is just unacceptable and even the apology was half hearted.
