Nice place, owner not so much .. My wife would go to this cafe for coffee and lunch everyday, because it's quite enough for her to finish her studies. Not until one day, the owner approached her and yelled at her for spending too much time at his cafe, that is only 2-3 hours a day.. but wait isn't that what a cafe is for?? She is quiet and wouldn't hurt an ant, people sit next to her all the time at that cafe without issues. She called me crying, because that was her favorite place and that man ruined that forever. I've never heard of this before, how could you treat your customers like this and feel ok about it? Without further ado, here is one star award for making your customers cry. read more

After a short hike at Mori Point we were looking for a place to grab a bite to eat and decided to give the Beach Monkey Cafe a try after a quick Yelp search. Located in a small strip mall, you might miss this place if you blink, but it's filled with yummy goodness! I had the breakfast sandwich ($4.95) and it tasted so fresh and was filling! My daughter had the Beach Monkey Açaí Bowl ($8.95) and it was deliciously refreshing with a surprise ingredient in each bite!! We'll definitely be back when we're in the area! read more

Nice spot for a coffee. This area of Bay Area doesn't offer too many organic options, so I like it that (they claim) everything is organic. Staff is friendly. I was reading some of the other reviews and noticed that a few fragile snowflakes complained because the owner of this place asked them to move a table, probably because they're sitting there for a whole day, every day, on a $2 cup of coffee, and he (or she?) hurt their little feelings. I'd suggest to the owner to put a sign "No Snowflakes Allowed". It used to be a free country once, and today unfortunately we have tyrannical laws against discrimination, but even in this era of socialist tyranny taking over the country, a business owner still has the right to refuse business, or to tell a client to f'kn move a table. Deal with snowflakes, and try not to get offended so easily, it will make your lives less miserable. read more

I only come here for their acai bowls, and they're delicious. I did go in recently for a grilled cheese and a side salad, but it wasn't even a salad, it was spinach with dressing on it which upset me a bit, but it was good. My favorite bowl is the rockaway with almond milk. Hits the spot every time. The atmosphere is cute, beach town coffee shop. I'm not sure what happened to this place, it used to be a 5-star cafe & now it's a 2-star at best... The only reason being that their bowls are pretty good (and if they have artichoke dip it's good). I've seen several people complain and change their opinion about this place and many other updated yelp reviews reflect this. I'm not sure if this cafe is under new management or completely new staff, but the way they are run is really terrible to say the least. It USED to be fast & friendly, but now they are extremely slow, unorganized, and unfriendly. They still always run out of artichoke dip for some reason. Their staff is pretty slow and they don't know how to time orders or how to apologize for orders that take 30+ minutes, their lack of menu items, or their lack of organization. Number 51 was called before 39. We waited over 30 minutes for a sandwich. We received no apology for them not having artichoke dip or for them mixing up orders and delaying ours over half an hour. All the workers here are different from when I used to come a year ago. Tall, middle aged Asian man with glasses is very rude, untrained, and unorganized. read more

We used to be regulars at this place, and we will no longer be returning. It's unbelievable how much this place has changed after a few months. It's under new management and everything we loved about this place -- ambience, friendly staff, good açaí bowls, cleanliness -- is now gone. It was a pain to be in this cafe for the entire duration it took to receive our food at our latest visit. Our order was taken by a 16-17 year old who barely acknowledged that we were ordering. The rest of the staff is around the same age. They made several mistakes on the group that ordered before us, increasing the wait time for our order. Ugly "now hiring" signs plaster the wall, highlighting how quick of a turnover this place has now. Our order took over 30 minutes to make, and that was only when we prompted them for our order. They did not call our number. Our order was put in the refrigerator, and it was melted. Guess good things come to an end! Skip this place. read more

I used to love Beach Monkey, and I'd come in every weekend for an acai bowl but, some time ago, they stopped using frozen acai and replaced it with a powder...now the bowls are super gross. You can't taste the acai at all, so it just tastes like a banana strawberry bowl. Really sad, and when I mentioned my concern to the person at the front, she just shrugged it off and said the powder "blends better." Funny, I'd never noticed a chunk of acai in my bowl before. The service is also slow and disorganized. One time, they gave my to-go order to someone else and I had to wait another 20 minutes for them to remake it. The only reason they are getting two stars from me is the granola...the stuff is out of this world! Hopefully, they don't start skimping on ingredients for that too. read more

After the morning drop off I thought I'd make a phone order to save time, I was on hold for five minutes. I stayed on the line (just to see long they'd take to answer) and by the time I got to BM I expected it to be packed since they left me in hold so long (btw, when someone did answer the phone they just said "hello" NOT thank you for holding). The place was empty, no one. There was some teenage person behind the counter looking very confused. He did not greet me, just kind of meandered over to take my order. I will not be back. My advice to small business owners in a small town, go overboard in your customer service. It can't hurt. read more

And we got well served and had a good time laughing and enjoying ourselves, our anecdotes, the art in the walls and even the other consumers. Pastries were just ok, but the whole experience was fun and is nice not to go to a chain when you go out on an outing you want something more local and authentic. Their granolas are homemade and you can customize your order (which I do all the time) It's a family run business and their all super cool . I was consistently coming to this place for a few months however the past two times I have gone there it took well over 30 minutes to get a mocha (which was luke warm) and bagel with cream cheese. I love Beach Monkey Cafe. I am usually here two or three times a week for coffee and acai bowls, and occasionally a bagel sandwich. My son comes here after school for their smoothies and acai bowls. Meredith and Marci are awesome and everyone there provides great customer service. Michael, the owner, is a really great guy. I feel like Norm at Cheers. The last time I was here before the Thanksgiving holiday, a large Ocean Beach acai was $8.75. Today, it was $13.50, more than 50% price increase within a month. I was shocked, and asked why the price jumped so high. I was told that the cost of the ingredients and that the lack of any price increases for two years was the reason for the price jump. I had already ordered the acai bowl ahead of time by phone so I felt obligated to pay for what I ordered, but I would not have bought it had I known of the severe price increase. I'm a businessperson, so I get that sometimes prices need to be increased. But I feel like Beach Monkey should have done this in a much more thoughtful way, keeping loyal customers in mind. Therefore, I would normally give Beach Monkey five stars, but I'm giving it three given this latest lack of customer service. read more

After making the half-day hike down to Montara Beach and back up the mountain, we wanted to refuel with some lunch. There wasn't much to choose from in Pacifica and we wanted something quick and easy. I chose this place off of the pictures and a handful of reviews. Upon arrival, we were disappointed to find this was more of a coffee shop than anything else. I am sure that if I just wanted coffee, I would have been pleased, but we wanted food, and this place failed to deliver. My bf ordered the Chicken Banh Mi and I ordered the Roasted Portobello Salad with chicken. After sitting down with our waters, our food came out about 10-15 minutes later. My bf's sandwich looked quite small and especially after such a long hike, it definitely wasn't going to do the job. It also definitely wasn't anything special. My salad came out shortly afterwards and as the employee presented it, he noticed that not only was it missing the chicken, but it was missing the portobello mushroom. Fail. He took it back and eventually came out with the salad and chicken. For the extra $2, I don't think it was worth the tiny 1/2 cup of diced chicken breast. We left unsatisfied and severely disappointed. If you come here, don't come here for the food. Clearly, it's meant to just be a coffee shop. read more

Pass me a fork and spoon, my friends- I'm about to eat my words. And no, I have never updated a review. I tend to stick to my guns when I review an establishment. But having been contacted my Beach monkey Cafe, and invited back to check them out after my first (unfavorable) review, I finally decided to give them another go. And I'm very glad I did. The place is beautiful, clean, modern, and cheerfully brimming with seaside city flair. But, overall and by far the best- the friendly, wonderful, attentive staff. Who welcomed this skeptical girl cheerfully, apologized and assured they'd "be right with me" (after not even making me wait at all!), and served up a damn, damn, damn fine mocha. I enjoyed it immensely, thank you very much. I am looking forward to my next visit to Beach Monkey Cafe! read more

Other than salads, there was one health-conscious selection on the menu - a veggie wrap of sorts - and when we ordered it, we were told that for some blurry reason, this one selection couldn't be served at this particular time. I have been here twice and less than impressed both times. Once was on a day that there was only 2 other people in there, about 10:15am. There was only one person behind the counter and every pastry was out of stock. The next time was around 11 on a Friday, and the same thing was happening....1 person (overwhelmed or slow) and no pastries. The chai tea I got was delicious, but more expensive that I expected...just shy of $5. The serves is very slow. But it's a good space, very appealing to to the eye. Very clean. Not impressed with this place. I was a supporter of this joint when they were new & just opened. I think it's overpriced, and they don't even have a size over 16oz?! I need a large coffee in the morning ya'll! Another huge bummer is they don't have soymilk - almond milk in my coffee taste like burnt wood. When I stop in once in awhile for my morning cup before work, the service is just too slow & I end up almost late for work (I leave at least 20 minutes earlier for my coffee). I love the re-opening. My girlfriend got a smoothie and I got an Açai bowl. So sweet! Love the atmosphere and the energy the staff had! The new management seemed to add a few more items than what the cafe had originally prior to the shut down. I love the mediterranean food they've incorporated into the menu. We moved to Pacifica last August. No joke, my husband's #1 reason against this town was that there was no place to get decent coffee. Beach Monkey, THANK YOU. The pour over coffee is so so so good. We haven't eaten all day so the bf and I both went for the LARGE Beach Monkey Acai Bowl and added peanut butter! PB is my weakness & the large is massive! The only bad thing about it was that they were a wee bit stingy with the granola! So I paid for extra cause I love my granola! The pricing here is just right! & I cannot forget about their Nicaragua Coffee!!! It was sooo good! I usually don't go for light roast but they recommended it and I'm so glad we went for it!
