So many people were satisfied. Murat came over and took the measurements and then returned that evening with a blackout shade for the bedroom as I had strong sunlight streaming in. The installation was expertly done and they are just beautiful and well made! Also, I am feeling a big difference in temperature now versus the old shade that was hanging in living room. I would not hesitate to recommend The Best Shades to anyone who is looking for window treatments....

I've used The Best Shades twice over the years. Both times, they were excellent. The first time was to install nearly 9ft wide shade across 3 panels of continuous windows. Other shade companies told me I had to break it apart into two parts because of the way shades are manufactured but Marat thought of an idea to select fabrics that look good horizontally and vertically so that the wide shade can be made horizontally. Great idea and great execution. The second job was to replace all the rest of the shades in our apartment. I didn't think twice to call Marat again. Efficient, professional, well priced and kind staff (my toddler insisted on peeking in during the install in each room and the team was very sweet to her).

Once I contacted him, I was so happy to know that he has not only survived the business downturn during the pandemic but has been expanding the business thanks to his loyal customer base. Despite his growing business , he was still the same person - down the earth, efficient, honest, & excellent for what he does . From start to finish of adding the automated custom shades plus converting the manual shades to be automated, & installation, he completed it such an impeccable manner in a timely fashion. Incredible. The installation team showed up on time & finished the work in a precise & professional manner. I was very pleased with the teamwork , seamless coordination, & attention to details. Happy to support small & local business. They are our friends, neighbors, & important contributors to the society!! Highly, highly recommend The Blinds Source for any custom or conventional drapes & shades.

After all the time and stress over the installation of our motorized shade the owner, Guy finally called. He had two purposes for his call. First to attempt to fix the problems we had and second to ask me to take down my poor review. After a week of inaction and stress I wasn't willing to allow them to make and install a new shade. I had spent a week trying to get them to respond to my calls and make the installation good/right. Laor, did return most of my phone calls. "Customer Service" was anything but helpful. Promises, messages went unanswered and in fact the woman I spoke to a number of times began hanging up on me! Guy asked what I wanted, a full refund! To his credit he did offer a full refund. His second purpose was for me to take down my review of his company. My original review was honest, factual and without any emotional comments or name calling. It left the reader to make their own decision about NY City Blinds. I felt it was a fair, though poor review. The evening of Guy's call he did refund our full cost. I had agreed to leave the shade with my doorman for him to have picked up, once replacements were installed. So, my reponse to Guy's request to take down my negative review is this replacement review: The NY City Blinds two employees that worked with me - Laor, who measured my window and the installer (sorry, I forgot your name) were both polite and actually enjoyable to work with. Guy, the owner was polite, professional and did go out of his way to make me a happy customer. This is New York City and it comes with a host of confounding problems. Manhattan alone is larger than almost every other city in the country! It's crowded. People generally are extremely demanding. There are dozens of choices for EVERYTHNG within blocks of your apartment (home). There is an extremely high expectation for quality. Price, surprisingly given the general wealth of New Yorkers, remains a strong selling point. New Yorkers want the very best products and the very lowest price! It's a tough place to make a business work. It's a tough place to live. Everybody that has a business in New York "is the best" so it's hard to evaluate and select a business that will provide a good service and product and charge a reasonable price. NY City Blinds changed my feelings about their people (except Customer Service - Guy take note!). Guy did try hard to make me a happy customer. I will give his a lot of credit for this. The best I can do is give them two stars for the installation. Guy gets 4 stars. He went beyond what I expect. I do expect Customer Service to improve. The negative review is down. I have to be honest in my review.

He's also knowledgable about fabrics and trends and invited us to the UES showroom to explore more after his free consultation at our apartment. When the fabric we chose was out of stock, Mauricio offered us a higher value fabric at the same cost. The drapes were done promptly and we received an email to schedule a time. Getting the COI from NY City Blinds was also straightforward. We are super happy with the result - pinch pleated drapes with tie-backs which look really elegant on our bay window. The installers were professional and polite, and the customer service (pre, during, and post) was excellent. We look forward to working with them again when we're ready to change the window treatments in our other rooms.

On September 2nd I entered into an agreement with Mari O'Connor, sales representative for Sue and…read moreTrevor Pinto of Budget Blinds of Mid-Lower Manhattan, to have smart motorized shades installed in our apartment. During the sales process Mari stated Budget Blinds affiliate brand Inspired Shades would function exactly like the more expensive non-affiliated Lutron brand. Specifically, Mari had inspected our current Lutron set-up with a single hub hidden from sight and told me Inspired Shades would work exactly as the Lutron accessories in our apartment do. Based on this information I paid $2500 for the Inspired Shades. At time of installation on September 28th the blinds did not work through a remote or app. The professional installers informed me they typically have issues with Inspired Shades and we should have purchased Lutron. The installers left the apartment with the blinds not working through the app and instead of providing one remote as promised at time of purchase, each blind needed its own remote next to the blind to function. The installers came a second time on September 30th and suggested we place multiple receivers in plain sight around the apartment in an effort to get the blinds to work. I specified the receivers must be hidden but were willing to try it to see if it worked. The installer still could not manage to get all the blinds to work even with receivers in plain sight. That same day I was told I could replace the Inspired Shades with Lutron, although I would only receive a $1995 credit towards the purchase vs the $2500 I had already paid. I offered to pay the difference between the $2500 I had already paid and the cost to fabricate new Lutron blinds. Mari declined and suggested the installers come a third time. On December 7th the installers came to the apartment a third time. At this point the apartment had been rented so the installers were disturbing our renters in the process. The installers proceeded to place a hub in plain sight on the kitchen counter and put 2 signal repeaters in outlets next to the blinds. One of the outlets was a single plug high voltage outlet designed for our air conditioning. Our apartment was recently gut renovated with many available outlets, but this outlet was closest to the bedroom blind. The installers unplugged the air conditioning and placed a signal repeater in that outlet rendering our air conditioning unit useless. The installers did not set up a multi-channel remote in the process. Mari wrote later that day and claimed the shades "are all functioning properly". I was sold a product that would function with a single remote or through a phone app with a hub hidden in the same place we have a hubs for our other smart home appliances. What was delivered was a product that does not work as advertised. In simple terms, I paid for a product I did not receive. Our apartment is less than 700 sq ft and all 3 windows are on the same wall. The desired location for the hub is less than 15ft from any one blind motor. Mari cited electronic interference as the reason the hub would not reach the blinds, even though none of our other smart home appliances have this issue. I have tried to solve this by offering to pay for the difference in the Inspired Shades and Lutron. I have also dedicated significant time with Budget Blinds trying to get Inspired shades to work. As a last resort I tried to involve the corporate office on 12.8 and was promptly told they could not help. Bottom line, stay far away unless you are willing to risk the same treatment.

As such, we wanted a window treatment option that would allow us to block the bottom portion of the windows but not block a lot of light. During our search for a solution, we visited most of the NYC's big-name window treatment stores. We didn't great customer service, and the options were extremely expensive. Most didn't offer or recommend shutters, only fabric/motorized shades - not the look that we were going for. I'm glad I called Aart - they arrived promptly to measure and explain how they could build out the shutters in a way that would allow me to still access the windows for cleaning. Not only are the shutters the "look" that I want, they came in at a better value than the shade options I explored. The installation was quick, easy and I'm really pleased with the results. It also means a lot, especially now, to support a local, family business that does great work.
