The Vancouver terminal is easy to find right behind Canada Place, just past The Drop the large blue art sculpture. ​The onboard experience is incredibly comfortable, which makes the roughly one-hour sailing fly by. The ride itself is fast but smooth, though it is worth noting that sitting backwards against the direction of travel might make you feel a little queasy, even if it is tolerable. For convenience, there are luggage racks located right by the entrance doors. The seating layout features a table for every four seats, making it easy to share space, and there are handy charging ports located at the side of each table. The vessel is also equipped with washrooms and a cafe bar for coffee and light snacks, and safety is well-covered with life vests stored right under every seat. ​Once you arrive, the trip stays seamless thanks to a free shuttle service that picks you up at the Nanaimo terminal and takes you straight into Downtown Nanaimo. It is a fantastic, hassle-free crossing that I highly recommend.

I just trusted my GPS to find a ferry, but didn't check to make sure that it went to Victoria. Shucks! It happened to be a terminal for cruise ships only. No cars allowed on the ships either! Uhg! Passengers only! (We're thought that we could Uber around Victoria without the car since could not take the car with us.) I paid by credit card in advance and will have to contact to Parking Company later to get a refund. Lesson learned.

A really nice way to get across false creek from one side to the other. The tickets are pretty…read morecheap at a few dollars each depending on where you're going - even if you don't have a particular destination, it's fun to just ride along. It's pretty hard to tell which direction the ferry is going next though unless you're very familiar with the routes, so make sure you ask the driver just in case. I find that the ones I've interacted with all ask you where you're going before letting you on, so at least I haven't taken the wrong boat yet. They have a zone system for ticketing and at first it was a bit confusing for which zone ticket was needed to go where. But they have nice maps at each stop so it wasn't too hard to decipher after awhile. The boat drivers were also pretty nice and were happy to answer questions about tickets. I took the boats during the Big Picnic event at David Lam park. There were other people on the boat but it was not crowded at all. Boats also came all the time and so we didn't have to wait much before ours came. The boat doors were left open when I rode the boats and so it was really nice to be able to take pictures and videos without obstruction from the windows or clear screens. The creek is relatively calm most of the time and the rides are short, so most people probably won't get sea sick.

You can grab a water taxi at Granville Island and they have a few different stops throughout the waters, but if you're like me, this is a great way to enjoy the city views from the comfort of an intimate water taxi. I really enjoy my time out on the water taking in everything and just seeing the skyscrapers, statues, and local happenings. It's also nice to see all the boats around. Definitely worth checking out and I can't recommend it enough!!

* Vancouver Vice *…read more Ok, so we wanted to go to Bowen Island for the day and starting looking into the options. It was either BC Ferries or Granville Island Water Taxi. To take the ferries you have to get all the way out to Horseshoe Bay, which either means catching a long bus ride from downtown or driving (including dealing with the Lion's Gate Bridge traffic) and paying a lot for parking. The ferry by itself costs about $18 round trip and then you have parking, bus, hassle, etc. on top of that. Enter Granville Island Water Taxi. It leaves from the convenient dock near the False Creek Ferry portion of the Granville Island docks. It costs only $25 round trip to Bowen Island. It was a no brainer. You can book reservations easily online for any of their trips (which generally run every 90 minutes or so). The boat is much smaller than a ferry and only holds 12 passengers. You definitely feel the speed - as the captain revs up the engines the front half of the boat lifts out of the water. Picture Miami Vice but instead of loud neon suited cops there are a bunch of west coast laid back types with their bicycles and dogs. Vancouver Vice. From GI to Snug Cove it only took about 25 minutes. It could have taken that long just to get across the Lion's Gate bridge! Tip 1: There are only vending machines for snacks and drinks - don't expect gift shops or cafes inside this terminal. If time permits, one can park the car in the ferry lineup and walk over to the horseshoe bay village for takeout foods. As walk on ferry passengers, it's easy to look for food options at the village across from the ferry terminal. Tip 2: Do make sure you have a pre-paid vehicle booking for all sailings departing here, except for vehicles heading to Bowen Island. Drive on the right-most lane if you are heading to Bowen and purchase a ticket at the end of the lane. Tip 3: Highway driving - pay attention to switch to the right lane before exit 3; it's simply a nuisance if you miss turning off on exit 3 when rushing for a ferry sailing. Tip 4: Transit via bus 257 is convenient from downtown Vancouver or Park Royal - good transit option for getting to this terminal. Tip 5: Delays "sometime" occur with ferry sailings so please brace yourself, plan accordingly, perhaps take some photos and soak up the view. Bon Voyage!

You don't really need a car while in…read moreWhistler and driving there on Hwy 99 could be quite dicey, so we usually just take a bus to/from the Vancouver airport. In the past we always used Perimeter Pacific Coach, but it no longer operates, so yesterday we tried a Pacific Coach (due to the name, I strongly suspect it's the reincarnation of Perimeter). First, the positives: - the bus left on time and everything at the airport (incl. tagging your luggage at the counter) was very well organized. - the bus was very comfortable, once again, I think these are the same buses that Perimeter had. - the driver was amazing, there was a mix of rain and snow and the last 50km of the road (Hwy 99) it was pure ice. We saw a couple of cars in the ditch and my husband was very happy we didn't rent a car and he didn't have to drive in such conditions. Could be improved: - Logistics in Whistler. When we arrived to Creekside, they distributed people to small shuttles to take to their hotels and condos. This was really disorganized and took almost half an hour. The drivers were deciding who goes where ad-hoc, even though they had all the lists of passengers/destinations and could prepare in advance. We were eager to get to our condo as soon as possible as, due to road conditions, the bus was late and we needed to pick up our tickets for the week before the ticket office was closed. Unfortunately, due to this delay with distributing passengers to minivans, we were late and couldn't pickup our tickets on time.

We went on a few "guided tours" of Vancouver while in town and Pacific Coach made them all look like beginners. I can't say enough about our tour guide driver Erik. Erik gave us a turn by turn description of Vancouver and Victoria, their history, local charm, customs and so much more. Erik made a simple bus trip an experience, and a trip we will not soon forget. Well done!

Affordable, timely, spacious and clean. Damn efficient I may add. Let's just put it this way, if I were to drive from Coquitlam to Vancouver during rush hour, it would give me a numbing irritable experience as likely I would to have deal with impatient drivers, stuck in grid lock and deal with bumper to bumper traffic. Hop on the skytrain then take the connecting bus, no headache and no stress. And it is even FASTER and CHEAPER!!! So what is there not to like. Sure, the impatient teenager me once thought riding transit was terrible, cuz I haven't yet been stuck on Highway One due to some jackass thought he was clever and can be quick weaving in and out finally causing a multiple pile-up blocking all lanes. I'll take the skytrain over driving any day especially during rush hour.

Finally, a decent way to get from downtown Vancouver. Sure we're all paying through the nose for…read morethis line, but I'm sure most people would agree that this line is WAY overdue. With that said, I still can't believe they had to tear up those brand new bus lanes running (they were there for less than 2 years) down No.3 Road. The stations are nice and clean, though their size leaves much to be desired. There is barely enough room to stand around on the platforms. The trains are wider than those of the Expo line, but they're also much shorter (2 cars instead of 4). Also you can tell they cheaped out when the stations on the Richmond side literally jut out onto the freaking street. Would it really have cost that much more to slide the entire station 3m to one side? One thing I always like to do is sit at the front of the trains and look out the front window. If you haven't done this before, it's actually pretty cool. The biggest complaint I have about the Canada Line is the fact that the trains only run every 10 minutes or so. Compare that to the Expo Line (1 every 2 minutes) during rush hour. Having the signs that show the ETA of the next train is nice, but it really sucks when you look up and see that you still have to wait 7 minutes. And this is assuming you're not going to Richmond, because now there's a chance you're going to wait (literally) twice as long. With that said, the YVR leg is awesome. Vancouver is now the only Canadian city to have a direct rapid transit link to the downtown core. I'm sure many of the cabbies out there aren't too happy about this. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
