Amazing. Beautiful. Exciting. The Dynamo earned their own stadium before DC United, a team that's been in the MLS longer than the Dynamo and they still don't have their own stadium. Houston has the only MLS stadium that's in a downtown location. I LOVE IT. Parking is a nightmare ($25-30 for closer to the stadium). It's free if you park downtown during the weekend and walk quite a few blocks. The B and C parking lots are available to only people who pay for the passes ahead of time. Huge amazing awesome plus that I cannot wait for it to happen??? The is a station for the light rail at the Dynamo that looks almost ready to be opened. Loved the verticality of the stadium. You can have a good seat and feel close even at the highest part of the stadium. It's beautiful on the outside and beautiful on the inside. I really loved being apart of the opening fever! read more

I always enjoy coming to watch the Houston Dynamo play here. Every seat provides you with a great view of the game. There are very few areas with covered seating so come prepared to feel the elements. The fans here are always awesome and add an extra element of excitement to watching the game. Several large screens around the stadium provide added entertainment. The is a good fan store where you can purchase a lot of Houston Dynamo and Dash gear. You have access to a variety of street and Parking Lot parking when coming to the games but no lot that is specifically allocated to this stadium. read more

I'm not a huge sports fan, but my husband loves soccer. Watching the Dynamo in the old UH stadium was a bit of a chore, given the uncomfortable benches and poor concessions. This stadium is a huge step up for the Dynamo and also an impressive new venue for the city. Things I love: * Comfortable chairs! Seriously, not only do these chairs have backs, they actually provide lumbar support. * Attractive design and good sight lines. The stadium is a nice size with no real "nose bleed" seats. * Beer that is not Bud/Coors/Miller Light. It's expensive, but that's to be expected. * Mixed recycling receptacles throughout the stadium. Yay! * Plentiful and air conditioned bathrooms!! A life saver when you start to overheat and need a break from Houston summer. Yeah, I know it's the bathroom, but I was really, really hot. Whatever. In short, I enjoyed everything about the stadium aside from being exposed to Houston summer, which is probably not the stadium's fault (though they could have added more shade). Parking is a bit chaotic, and if you want to pay less than $20-$30, be prepared to walk a half mile or so through an unpleasant area dodging heavy traffic. Not a big deal, but after sweating through the game, I was pretty tired and cranky on the walk back. It will be awesome when the light rail opens up. read more

BBVA is the poor man's professional sports stadium...but yet it does things so much better than it's flashy counterparts! I've attended a couple MLS games here, as well as the recent USA Rugby match and have been impressed with the stadium seating, food and drink options, and the friendliness of the staff. I have sat in multiple sections and can honestly say the view from all sides and levels is amazing. I like the minimalist approach to the walkways and the cleanliness of the ladies rooms. Now that the sports teams have recognized the record heat we experience in Houston, they've also adjusted game times to help the fans enjoy the game without losing ten pounds just in sweat. The only down side to the stadium is parking, but I see that this is improving already. Once the new rail lines open it will cut down on much of the after game traffic, and more pay lots are being utilized than before. I'm looking forward to my next visit back, and hope I can actually learn a bit more about soccer before then! read more

I am super happy that the Dynamo have gained enough of a following to garner their own stadium. It's impressive that Houston can sustain pro basketball, football, baseball and soccer teams. However, this stadium just isn't up to snuff with other professional sports venues. It might be worth noting that I visited this stadium for a UH football game (which we won!) and not a Dynamo game. Parking: Well, we were able to find free street parking 3 blocks away, so that's awesome. But the surrounding areas are still a little under-developed and unsafe for walking at night. I was there 100% during the day, but at night I'd be willing to pay for parking to avoid a broken car window or mugging. Seating: The 2nd level does have good views and feels close to the field. There were no armrests or cup holders, which is super inconvenient. The legroom horizontally is very small and you'll definitely have to stand to let anyone pass. The spacing between the rows of seats vertically is nice though. I could stand up and feel like I wasn't completely blocking the views of those behind me. The seats themselves are small and feel pretty weak. If my hips were a little wider and I were 30 lbs heavier, I think I'd be a little worried about the seat buckling underneath me. Video monitors: This is my biggest gripe. Again, I was here for UH football, so maybe you rely on video replay more at a football game versus a soccer game? But if you're seated on the North/East endzone adjacent to Texas Ave., the only screen is directly above your head so you'll miss any replays or videos. There are 2 smaller screens on the opposite end, but those were for displaying scores and stats. Plus, if the team is on the opposite end of the field, you're 100 yards away from them and without a screen to watch what's going on. Also, when you go out to get concessions, there are no screens in the concourse areas, so you're completely missing the game. Concessions: I liked the loaded pastor nachos with pineapple salsa, cilantro, chipotle cream and monterrey cheese. The latin offerings like aqua frescas and tacos were appropriate touches. Of course, this more "gourmet" stadium food will cost you: $11 for the loaded nachos. Stadium design: The architecture reminds me a little of the bird's nest from the 2008 Beijing Olympics. There is no retractable roof, and I think that was a bad choice considering the typical heat and rain in Houston. Not only will guests get wet and hot, it also means the seats will get cracked and faded quicker and the metal elements will rust. That also means there is no climate control in the place -- including the concession areas. On the day we were there, a storm was moving in, and outside the stadium was very windy and not uncomfortably hot, but inside, we were sweltering in the humidity with very little air circulation. I feel like the place should have some design elements to harness the wind and bring it in to the "bowl." As it was, the structure held all the humidity and the heat. While it looks shiny and impressive from the freeway, it's not my ideal venue to enjoy a sporting event. read more

The opening game at BBVA Compass was a fun atmosphere. However, we were out in the sun for the first half of the game, which was unpleasant. Unfortunately, they didn't build adequate shade over much of the seating. If you go for an afternoon game, do NOT on the east side or north end of the field - the sun will blast you. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. We sat behind the goal at the north end of the stadium underneath the jumbo tron screen thing (whatever its called), and we didn't get shade until half time. For an afternoon game, sitting on the WEST side of the field is ideal - you'll have plenty of shade. Also, the big screen is only at one end of the field - the north end. If you sit behind the north goal, you'll have to turn around and stretch your neck to watch the replays. Also: the line to get in the gift shop was really really long the whole time. If you want to purchase Dynamo fan gear, see if they're open on non-game days? Go Dynamo! read more

The problem is: the outrageous cost of food and drink. $13.50 for a pint of beer? $13.50 for a simple hamburger? $6.00 for a small bottle of water? $7.00 for a small order of french fries?? I'm not a huge soccer fan, but I had a blast at this game! Our seats were pretty high up, but it really wasn't an issue. It almost seemed like there wasn't a bad seat in the house. If you get hungry, I'd definitely recommend tracking down the loaded nachos. The shredded chicken is amazing! My whole group shared with me and they were a huge hit. read more

I truly love this stadium! My husband and I are Dynamo season ticket holders and this stadium is just one reason why. It's open, so no roof, but the layout is great. It's easy to navigate your way around and although it's on the smaller side of most stadiums I enjoy that. The lines at the concessions can be long, but avoid getting stuff at halftime and it's fine. The stadium is very clean and well kept. We've say all around the stadium and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Of course- if your seat has the Texas sun beaming down on it, the plastic can get hot and sunglasses are a must, but the view is always good. This is a great place to see a game, and I'm glad it's finally open. There are no bad seats here! The location in East Downtown is easily walkable from places like the George R. Brown Convention Center, and so the parking is not an issue, considering that Minute Maid Park can also accommodate the area with a much larger capacity. I even managed to get 75 cent/hour street parking for a near-capacity game against the L.A. Galaxy. So here's what is disappointing to me: They are not serving true local beer here. I would've loved to see Saint Arnold's or Karbach brews served here. Although it is refreshing to see a stadium serving Dr. Pepper and Snapple. Also, the covered seating is not around the entire stadium, so the summer Houston heat can be brutal. I literally got sunburned very easily. Some things I'm looking forward to in the future is the light rail transit station being completed for public transit, and a redeveloped, more walk able area outside of the Downtown proper area. read more

I love this place. As a Dynamo season ticket holder, I've been to a bunch of games here and I always have a great time. The only negative for me are the concessions prices, but that's a given in any stadium. There are several good pre and post game options that are right next to the stadium. Little Woodrow's is my favorite pre game spot. I've heard people complain about the heat in the summer....it's Houston, it gets hot and humid! Don't be a wuss. The heat and humidity are an advantage for the Dynamo. That's why their home record is so strong. read more

My son and I like to make it out to a Dynamo match at least once per season. I don't know why we don't make it to more matches? This is a gorgeous facility. Here's a tip. Park a few blocks away for free as street parking is available. There are plenty of lots that range from $10 and up all around but I like to save a few $$$ to spend on food and souvenirs in the stadium. Be prepared to spend some serious cash on food and souvenirs but every stadium is like that. We always have a good time, win or lose, when we come to a match. I finally got to go to my first game here to see the Dynamo. The stadium is new, and there isn't a bad seat in the place. The seats are folding seats without arm rests, and this is the first time I have experienced this in a professional stadium. There are also no cup holders. The beer is pretty expensive; I think it was around $9. I know its a professional sporting event, but $9 is steep either way for Bud Light. The service was suspect. I stood in line for 20 minutes to get a beer only to be told they stopped serving when I got to the front. It was still during half time so I was surprised. It turns out I was at the only stand that decided to stop serving. I walked to the next one, stood in line again, and finally got a beer. For $9 they should have been better organized, more professional, and not so bush league. I expect poor service at this type of event, but this place went overboard with the bad service. I enjoyed my time there, and I will like to go back and see another game. If you go, eat and have a drink beforehand! read more

This is the CLEANEST stadium in Houston hands down. Given it is new the staff their is awesome getting everything cleaned up. I knew from going to LA that this stadium is owned by the same company and was built similar. The team and energy in the stadium is amazing. The concessions are what you would expect from a stadium nothing spectacular if you are on the concourse, but I know from a business lunch that upstairs in the West Club they have an amazing 3-4 star chef making that menu. Drinks were expensive and I recommend going to Lucky's Pub pregame. Overall an amazing place and did I mention CLEAN! read more

Having just moved from Northern Virginia, I immediately compared the stadium to RFK stadium, located in the nation's capital. Firstly, and to most people this will be obvious, this stadium is very new and very pretty. Compared to the (literally) falling concrete at RFK, the lack of a feeling of impending mortality is a nice touch at a footy match. Even my beer felt safe as the stadium did not rock or sway. Anyway, as far as match-day ambience is concerned, this stadium is really lacking. Half of the fans in attendance for the Dynamo game today have at least a few years before they hit puberty, so I guess the lack of outside beer vendors makes sense. The group of DC United fans I were sitting by were INCREDIBLY respectful compared to the rowdiness of DCU games, yet were yelled at and flipped off by some soccer mom due to the use of a four letter word her kids probably hear 20 times a day on network TV. She also alerted security. It was then that the security guy let me know (in an incredibly disrespectful way) that I was unable to smoke my electronic cigarette in the open air stadium. Because, ya know, the children. Overall this was a great venue to freak out tweens and their parents, glad I'm not a Dynamo fan though because soccer was not meant to be played in such a PG environment. read more

There are parking lots right across the stadium charging $20 (blah) and as I was about to pull into the lot a car on the street happened to pull out... SCORE!!! Free parking! It is definitely nice to be watching a game here than at the previous UoH campus. it's still so new and I hope it doesn't get rundown or anything like that. The quality of the place is great and lots of venders for food and alcohol. My only gripe would be that there are no cup holders on the seats... seriously?? What gives? read more

It's football season, and that means lots of TSU football at the stadium. If ya'll haven't been to an HBCU game your missing out. Besides the football you get to experience passionate fans, the infamous Ocean of Soul marching band and lots of people watching. Support a local collegiate football team and have fun! The only reason why it gets a star deduction is because I feel the stadium wasn't built for the Houston climate. An open stadium means you aren't protected from the humidity and heat. When it rains, there's nowhere to go but back into the tunnel. They don't let you bring in umbrellas, just ponchos read more

This is a must for any soccer fan to go to or any open minded sports fan. I'm somewhat of a Dynamo fan but I was going with a bunch of friends anyway so why not. It has plenty of food and drink options. The seats are not too bad. If anything, if you seat higher on the stadium the better the view. There are parking lots around the stadium in which they charge you. It's a good atmosphere and a great place to take kids. If the Dynamo wins, they set off the fireworks as if it's the 4th of July. read more

The dynamo are one of the most well supported and successful franchises in the MLS and the BBVA Compass stadium is a fortress. The dynamo almost never lose games here - and that is largely due to the great support the team gets from the local fans. I have always wanted to watch a game here along with the Texian Army - they are just an awesome bunch of supporters who sing songs and cheer passionately for the entire 90 minutes. There are a bunch of paid parking lots around the stadium (I usually park on the ones that lie along the US-59 Frontage). Good seats with good views of the entire field. Also, they have adequate concession stands in the stadium for the usual fill of beer and nachos. Also, the stadium is right next to Lucky's pub - so after the match you can always walk over there. Overall, a top stadium representing one of the most successful franchises in the MLS. read more

This beautiful new stadium with an awesome view gets the crowd pumping during dynamo games. I've been here multiple times and have not been disappointed with the crowd, seating or getting in and out of the stadium. If you get section 232 they will give you the blanket/flag thing to throw down when the Dynamos score a goal. The blanket smells horrible so try to get the top row (T) so you don't get trapped underneath. Also, several times there are free giveaways (mostly beans) at the entrances when you leave so stick around for that. This time for some odd reason, we got humus and pretzels before we entered the stadium as a sample, but the guards make you throw it all away because you can't bring food in. So if you do get samples before the game starts, scarf it down fast! read more

This stadium is very clean and not to meantion awesome to look at! My only gripe was that there is only one giant screen so if you sit on the wrong side of the field, you kind of miss whatever is going on up there unless you can see the two little screens on the opposite side. Not a huge complaint since you could see the game VERY well from every single seat. Of course they have $10 beers...it's still a stadium after all. Like most Houstonians, I was super excited to hear we were finally getting a legit stadium for our soccer team, Houston Dynamo. It was really cool watching the building go up slowly, and was anticipating our first game. I finally visited for the May 31st game, Dynamo vs Valencia. I have to say, I wasn't very impressed. I knew the idea of the stadium was to make it 'personal', as in, there isn't a bad seat in the house, so this in turn makes it looks small. We had field seats (behind a goal), but soon realized, we were facing 2 super small screens above the other end of the field, and the big screen was behind us. I don't understand why there wouldn't be 2 large screens on each end, however there's only 1 on 1 end, and 2 smaller ones on the other?? I don't get it. So, we were constantly having to turn around to see replays, as the 2 screens in front of us were too small and far away to see anything. The inside of the bowl is very plain too. Concrete walls, didn't seem to have a huge menu in the consessions. Overall not impressed. Parking is expensive too, $25 to park near the stadium, and around $10 a few blocks away. I'm sure the die-hard soccer fans don't mind the lack of amenities though. read more

I've been to this stadium before but I sat up pretty high and I went with a friend who was just there to met guys so I wasn't able to watch the football game. This time around was different, I took the bf for his birthday to a Dynamo game(which he loved) and we sat like 5 rows away from the field! Let's just say they had me considering buying a season ticket/seat! I was amazing!!!! never a dull moment, the food was amazing and the bathrooms were perfect! Very great place to for the family and even for a first date! We'll definitely think about buying those season tickets!!! read more

No it's not a space ship in Downtown it's the Home of the Houston Dynamo! On a sweaty balmy summer evening nothing is better than watching the footy. BBVA has become a second home for us and we can't get enough. There are always activities for everyone during the games and great pre game entertainment. They regularly host special events night. The layout of the stadium is excellent I have sat field side, in the West Club, private suites and also in the general stands areas. All excellent views to watch a match. The open air stadium provides just enough shelter and THANK YOU for finally adding those huge fans in the concourse areas!!! Probably the best enhancement to the stadium yet. Standing in line for concessions while sweating is never cute. An excellent addition the the already excellent Houston Sports complexes. read more

I love coming to games, however, the food and beer lines are stupid long. The long lines are due to the specialization of the concession stands. Instead of offering the same food at each concession stand, they offer "one special item" such as hot dogs (but in various flavors). I had to walk halfway across the stadium to find chicken tenders bc not every stand offers them. I missed a good portion of the game waiting in lines. I would eat before you come to a Dynamo or Dash game. read more

The worst thing I can say is parking for the Dash matches takes a backseat to any other event. Therefore I ride the Metrorail which stops in front of the stadium. I like the stadium. The staff really keeps it clean and they are courteous as well. The service makes it a pleasure to be a season ticket holder for the Dash. read more

One of the better manage stadiums in Euston. I've only been there for soccer games but I would like to see a concert at this venue. Parking is a little bit of a nightmare but I would recommend finding free parking and riding the metro rail. read more

What a great stadium. It's the perfect size for a soccer specific stadium (about 22,000). Because of it's great design, there is seriously not a bad seat in the house. The food selection is varied and quality. The beers are big and not too egregiously priced. The Dynamo are Houston's sport gem, always a threat to win the big one, which is more than we can say for the rest of our joke teams lately. Do yourself a favor a catch a game here soon. Pro tip: Sit on the bench side for shade during evening games. read more

BBVA Stadium, The Dynamo and their Fans ROCK! Dynamo Season ticket holder! The atmosphere inside the stadium is second to none. The ticket prices are affordable for a whole family and offer a lot of options. If you feel the area is sketchy, then park on the Minute Maid side in the team parking lots (lots B&C for the Astros)! if you want a better parking deal and are not worried about warehouse areas (which by the way, will be changing and already are), then park in the pay lots all around the stadium. Access is easy when you use a little extra thought and planning. Polk is the easiest but not the best way. And Finally, For all you wussie Houston sports fans who can't stand being outside in the summer, keep going to other stadiums. We won't miss you! We will not be instituting a 60 to 80 degree rule. Stay home and watch the game on tv or your ipad! Houston fans can be so weak and soft! Simply stated, the stadium is a GGGGOOOOOAAALLLLL DDDDYYYYNNNNAAAAMMMMOOOOO! read more

This is a review of the stadium only. The Dynamos game and team get 5 stars!! Went to my first game the other night and had bought the best tickets I could get and while I am glad I did. I didn't have to because there really is not a bad seat in the stadium. It is laid out perfectly! We sat nearish to the fan-zone and wow do they have some dedication!! I have to say that I am taking a star away because of the service. I wasn't drinking but was standing in line with my fiance' and couldn't figure out why the line wasn't moving. When we got closer to the front realized that the beer slinger had no interest in slinging beers and was more interested in being rude to the patrons standing in line and then walking away from them. She then decided after we had stood in line for 10 minutes she arbitrarily decided that beer could no longer be sold. It was not time for this to happen. We then stepped out of line and bought from the very nice gentleman standing there selling beer. read more

This is absolutely one of the nicest professional sports venues i've ever been to and i've been to quite a few. I'm glad the Dynamo finally got the stadium they deserved. The area where the stadium is isn't the best, but I haven't experienced anything negative. Just a few things to comment on: - The concession prices are ridiculous. $9.75 for domestic beer and $4 for a water bottle. Then again I guess that's the standard for most venues. Highly suggest hydrating and eating before you arrive. - Parking really isn't THAT bad. If you're looking for decent paid parking, I advise that you show up atleast 45 minutes before kick off and find one of the $5 lots that are roughly two blocks from the stadium. They fill up pretty quick. If you want parking right across from the stadium, be prepared to pay anywhere from $10-30 dollars. - Really, really wish the stadium had a top to it. I've been to a few games where it was absolutely pouring rain. Like another Yelper noted-- this is Texas. We have crazy weather. - Any seat you have is a great view.. but I prefer second level seats as opposed to the lower level. Better overall view.. there's also something about the lighting and the lower level that really hurts my eyes. - Do not be afriad to shout/holler/cheer (respectfully) during the game! I don't know what it is about American soccer fans.. everyone tends to be a bit reserved. I've met a lot of neat people being involved with chants and stuff. It really is a good time. Overall, if you're looking for something different (especially for a date!) and social, definitely come to a game and check out this beautiful stadium.
