I go to a lot of shows, but I've only been to NRG Arena twice. The first time was probably about 9 or 10 years ago. I tend to forget about this venue as it is sandwiched between NRG Stadium and the Astrodome. NRG Arena is definitely old school (it was built in 1974). It actually reminds me of Burger Center in Austin which was also built in the 70s (IYKYK). The capacity is 8K, but it seemed smaller to me. Because it's an older venue, it doesn't have features such as illuminated stairs (like Toyota Center). People were using their cell phone flash lights to go up and down the stairs in the dark. The concourse area is a bit on the small side. The bathrooms weren't great but they weren't a complete disaster. On my last visit, I attended the World AIDS Day concert with Janet Jackson (she was amazing!). The staff was helpful with finding our seats as well as the merch table. We had a row of just 3 chairs which meant we had the entire row to ourselves (my best friend is brilliant lol). The sound quality was better than I was expecting, though at one point the volume of Janet's vocals seemed off. I didn't buy any food or drinks, but I imagine it's overpriced like any other venue. Tip: Check their socials for info on parking, bag policy, etc. Parking for the show was $20 (though it varies by event) and they do take cash and credit. The parking lot is right next to the arena so you don't have to walk terribly far. NRG Arena is okay. It's definitely not my favorite venue in the city, but it's good enough. read more

Expensive SUITE!!!! IT WAS AWFUL!! 1. Parking at this venue was over 2hrs both ways (coming and leaving), not a cop in site direction ANY traffic. The closest they get you to the venue is 2 miles of walking. (Even handicapped) atrocious fees for that 2 hr wait to park! 2.suite was at the very top of the venue ( where the CHEAP SEATS USUALLY ARE) COULDNT SEE ANYTHING. Had us packed in like sardines. If youre larger than slim, you will be uncomfortable. It was EXTREMELY hot in the suite!!! Had to go all the way down to floor level to go ANYWHERE else and then ride the elevator back up to what youre trying to reach (merch). When time to leave, it literally took 1 hour to exit the venue to the street level and then another hour to get to where the shuttle picks you up and then another 2 hrs trying to get OUT of the parking lot!!!!!!! Great event for AIDS awareness and information before the concert. Great performance by Janet Jackson if I must say. This was my first time ever coming to a concert here at the arena. Everything ran smoothly, clean, plenty of vendors, free stuff, friendly staff for the most part except for one staff member who didn't want to let us out to where we had parked our car in the VIP section. She wanted us to go out and walk around the building even though they were letting others out. Other staff members intervened in our favor and she walked us out. Other than that everything was good. We enjoyed the concert very much. Would recommend if thinking about coming here but I guess it depends on the staff working it. read more

We went to our sons graduation class of 900 people. Since there were so many graduating classes from HISD it was confusing to know where to park for the handicapped. We kept asking and was directed to the correct place. The venue was of course delightful because when our son is graduating and it cannot be helped that tears come to mind. The acoustics were loud, however for the occasion it all wenquite well. read more

I saw Katt Williams and was also happy to see the opening acts. They were all funny. I always wanted to see Lunell live and she was there as well. I was surprised to see Mark Curry from hanging with Mr. Cooper. He was funny too. It was hosted by Red and he had a set as well he was real funny. The NRG Arena needs to step its game up though. We attended a globetrotter show at the NRG arena and it was an amazing event. It was very well organized. Parking was paid upfront upon entering the lot and then there were guided lanes and turns on where to park. Once parked, we went to the ticketing booth area and found a line to enter the arena. We had pre game passes and were fortunate to skip the longer line and enter the arena from a "special entrance line". Once inside, the lobby area was packed with vendors trying to sell globetrotter merchandise, food items, drinks, sports memorabilia etc. We entered the actual court and saw some of the globetrotters taking pictures with fans, autograph signing and other challenges. I happened to snap a few pic with them. Once seated, it was just a matter of time. National anthem, player introduction and bam! showtime!!! It was a spectacular show and worth every minute. I remember growing up watching the globetrotters on TV and this was memorable. A great event hosted at the NRG arena. read more

Worst venue to host anything! I went to the Katt Williams concert last night Sept. 30 to celebrate our 10 year anniversary with my husband just to get to an arena that could not take control of the crowd. It is a non smoking venue that had Marijuana being smoking all throughout and I witnessed people even rolling blunts in seats directly in front of me and then lighting it up. After complaining to the section guide in section 203 and then even speaking to Muanda the security supervisor absolutely nothing was done. Muanda is shorter than me, very timid looking with not of bite for this type of arena. Several guests left this night without even seeing the event due to it being transferred to a weed fest and drug show. Very disappointed and will not return to this unmanaged arena. One honorable mention is Shamicka who is extremely sympathetic employees who felt bad for our experience but her hands were tied due to an incompetent manager. Good luck if you ever step foot in the venue. Shut it down and call the authorities. read more

I was here for a HR conference for three days. It is an excellent venue for these types of events meetings, vendors and more meetings. There are thousands of square feet of space in often the whole venue was not used.There is also an abundance of parking spaces and you are right next to the in RG stadium and the astrodome. This is the venue where the OTC conference is held every year where employers and employees from thousands of companies come to view offshore technology. read more

Was an old man working at 101 seat 123-124 I believe but that had to have been the rudest person I ever met, we asked a question and he kept telling us he was born in 1950 guess he was trying to prove a point or something, Not only that but he put his arm around my dad then told us we were hard headed. Spacious venue compared to others. Speakers are loud and full of bass. Although, this arena could use some renovation. The colors on the walls look faded and the floors look like a rundown cafeteria, but other than that I love seeing some of my favorite artists here at NRG! read more

Oh dear. This places needs to be torn down ASAP. I went here last night for the "So You Think You Can Dance" touring show. I had bought tickets on-line and had gotten what I thought would be good seats on the floor. We arrived and parking was ok, even though it was $10. Walking into the building brought me back to my childhood. The building is OLD. The entrances are small and I wonder if the place is a big fire hazard. Inside, nothing clearly marks the entrance to the floor seats, so we wandered around until we had to ask someone. The place is seriously run down and old looking. It wouldn't matter too much, but even the AC wasn't working well. Everyone around us was fanning themselves with their $25 souvenir programs all night. It was HOT inside, and it wasn't even at full capacity. In addition, the seating is old and uncomfortable. The permanent seats on the sides and hard plastic with no cushion. The seats on the floor are very close together but more comfy. My biggest problem with this place is that the stage is too low and you can't see anything from the floor seats. It was AWFUL. I don't know if that's a problem with the venue or the touring company, but it was wrong. Many people around us complained and left. Overall, the show was good, but the venue was a disappointment with AC problems, bad seating, and an overall run down feeling. It'll take a very special show to get me back in that building again. read more

This is an OLD arena. It's not even that old, but it has a very old feel to it because they just don't seem to put any time or money into updating it ever. The restrooms are run down, the concession stands are not up to date, and the seating feels like it's been in place since the Astrodome was built. That said, it's an excellent place to catch a smaller event. Groups from TNA Wrestling to Strikeforce FC to the Harlem Globetrotters have had events here, and they're always a fun time. Despite the old arena, it's small enough to be an intimate experience, albeit a somewhat cramped one. Parking costs $10-20 to get into the facility, so I highly recommend carpooling if you go with friends. read more

I have visited this building a few times over the past several years. It is a multi use facility located on the southern end of the property very close to the 610 Loop. It has plenty of parking around the building. If you are taking the Metro Light Rail here, you have about a 300 yard walk from rail station to the front door of the arena. Make sure you don't confuse this property with the other multi use buildings on the property that are next to the Astrodome. read more

This is the ugly, smaller cousin of the NRG Stadium imo... The lines were fairly long to get in but moved with good speed. It looks and feels cramped and old. The bathrooms were a plenty with stalls but also a hot, old looking mess. I despise old public bathrooms. I already hate I have to use a public bathroom, can it sparkle so I don't feel dirty when I walk out? On the positive, the Arena is small enough where all the seats are a good look. I attended a concert at NRG Arena for the first time. I at first thought the concert would be held where the Texans play but that's not NRG arena. This is a much smaller venue. In a way, it looks like a high school gym. Things are pretty simplistic. Simple sets. I attend quite a few concerts and I've seen shows at Cynthia Woods, Toyota Center, House of Blues, and the Revention Center. This has been my least favorite venue. You also have to pay for parking unless you Uber and there isn't any street parking close by as it's deep inside NRG. No bars or restaurants close by either if you're trying to walk somewhere after the show. read more

I've come here 3 straight years for the Reliant Dog Show and every single time have been disappointed at them. Parking is $10 which isn't horrible, but they pretty much have a monopoly and unlike George R Brown, there is no street parking, but that's not my main issue with them. It's not even the disgusting bathrooms or the over priced food. My beef is the lack of proper lighting. The facility manager at this place needs to be forced to wear a sign at an intersection in the summer that says "I suck at my job" because not only there is not enough lighting here to take decent pictures of the events, he's also decided to mix lighting temperatures so there is absolutely no way to color correct the light or add flash to it. He should decide to whether to go with either all Metal Halide lamps (white color) or Hi pressure sodium (ugly yellow) but the lights are randomly mixed. Maybe for some conferences that's ok, but people come to a dog show to see dogs, take pictures of them, and actually be able to see the dogs and the lighting here is pitiful. read more

My first visit to NRG Arena. I was underwhelmed. It's VERY drab. The vendors lined up in the common area made me think of an indoor Flea Market that's been around too long. The dull greyish walls gave it a prison feel. Everything about it, inside and out, is just so stark. Blah! Ample parking but pricey at $10! Can't say I won't be back. The One. The Original. The Mecca of domes. Once the pride of Houston (and still is in the hearts of many) this place hosted the Astros and Oilers as main tenants. Many super famous folks also gave concerts here. Everyone from Selena & George Strait to the Rolling Stones & other big names. Five stars because I have a special emotional attachment to it. I love this place. And I would literally be heartbroken if it were to meet the fate of so many domed stadiums like it. I hope that plans for it to be used for other purposes materialize. read more

This review is specifically for the Martin Lawrence comedy show event that took place on 6/17/16. I've been to NRG Arena for countless events from concerts to other comedy shows and this time around was a pure disaster. When we walked into the arena, it was HOT as fish grease. At 8pm, it was about 90 degrees outside and it literally was cooler than inside the arena. In fact, the opening comedian commented jokingly about how hot it was in the arena. I also noticed several attendees fanning themselves with whatever they could throughout the entire comedy show just to stay cool. I'm not sure why NRG Arena management thought it would be okay to not have the AC on at this event, but you can guarantee they'll never see another dime of my money due to this incident. I don't pay my hard earned moolah to be hot! As for the show itself, I was sorely disappointed in how short of a show it was. 80 bucks for 45 minutes to hear Martin basically ramble on and on with no obviously pre-written material was a complete waste. Just my 2 cents! I love Martin Lawrence, but I think he needs to end his stand up comedy days with the crappy performance he gave his Houston fans - including the abrupt ending. read more

I came here for an event of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. It seems like it may not get that much action these days except during the rodeo. I could be wrong, but that's just the feeling I got coming in here. Concessions here were decent, and we didn't end up waiting in line or anything. The staff there was pretty nice. There's not a bad seat in this place, but I don't recall seeing a video board. It's pretty much a low-tech facility by today's standards. The press box is open air I believe. That's okay, all of this actually adds some charm to the visit. It's been a while since the Houston Comets were playing in our great city, so I think after they left, the upkeep has not been so great. They do need to do a scrub down on the seating areas, there was dirt and trash on the concrete in the seating areas, and no good place to put your drinks. I will say that it is pretty cool to still be able to come see stuff in the good ol' Astro Arena. On a side note, I wish they had kept those cool names around the park. No thanks NRG. I don't like your corporate name. It will always be the Astrodomain to me. read more

Ahhh the good 'ol Reliant Arena which was formerly known as Astroarena way back when. (Trivia of the day) This place gets me totally nostalgic of my first concert ever at the Reliant back in 2005 when I saw The Get Up Kids, Thrice, and Dashboard Confessional. Yum, that Chris Carrabba (and coincidentally met the love of my 4-year life there too!) This arena is slightly older (built in the 70s) than most venues like the Toyota Center (built in 2000-ish) but it does its job: spacious general admission, clean bathrooms, ample parking, cool artists who stop by. What more could you ask for in an arena? If you thought cheaper parking and drinks, I second that too. -_- Cool artist #1 who stopped by: Chip Tha Ripper who easily killed it. Enjoyed his set as much as I enjoyed my $13 Daiquiri shaped like a bottle rocket. Well, at least that's what it looked like to me at the end of my last sip. (Bitch I) Feel Good. Cool artist #2 (lol #2) was motherf'cking KID CUDI. Yeah, Day-'N-Nite-Pursuit-Of-Happiness guy! I love general admission. It's free game in there. Anything goes and it just feels so good to be surrounded by people who share the same interest as you. Kid Cudi delivered an unforgettable performance and I'm really glad Reliant Arena is still hosting good artists there but most importantly, keeping good memories for me since 2005. read more

Ahhh, the Astrodome. I have many fond memories here, beginning with my dad taking me to my first baseball game when I was just a baby. I visited it many, many times for Astros games throughout the years. While the Juicebox is definitely an upgrade, the 'dome will always hold a bit of nostalgia for me and other fans. read more

I was here for a GOT7 concert and although I LOVED the concert, the line situation was a total mess. The people who were in charge of the line told the people who were P2 seated to get into a new line and when the time came to get inside, other people told them that the line they were in was not even a line! I wasn't in that line but I heard what all the commotion was about. I felt really bad for them and I don't know what else happened unfortunately. Someone also collapsed in that line and I'm not sure if they were treated at a hospital. Also inside, someone else collapsed right after the group finished and I also don't know what happened with the young female. Although these situations were unpleasant, I had a blast at the concert. read more

The Reliant Arena....I have only been here a few times, and it is one of the older venues in Reliant park. They can do some work on it to make it look better, because the exterior and interior does not look too good. If they can do that, then this place will be a okay. Get it done Houston! read more
