Amazing place I had such a great time , I got treats , nice pictures, the service was nice , and we really enjoyed the ice cream the staff was welcoming and helpful , it's just that gift shop highly expensive lol I mean a book mark 20 dollars and T-shirt is 32 dollars lol but I get it I would come back loved it

OMG!!! I took my sister and her family who came in from out of town and they, WE, LOVE IT!!! It was so much fun for everyone in the family from adults to children! It gave all of us an opportunity to interact and play with each other. There were so many wonderful photo opps and I so appreciate that they offer accessories to help those with neurodivergence also enjoy the different areas. I ABSOLUTELY 100% recommend this experience!

What a fun time! I had not heard of Color Factory before so I was excited to check it out. If you are not familiar, it is a self-guided, go at your own pace exhibit with dozens of photo ops and takes anywhere between 60-90 minutes. There are 14 immersive art exhibits for you to enjoy as well as surprise treats throughout the experience such as taffy, ice cream and fortune cookies. I brought my Mom on a Friday at noon and we were able to park right outside of the entrance so that was convenient. We bought our tickets online ($28 for children and $36 for adults ) for a determined time slot so when we arrived, they scanned our tickets and we were good to go. I recommend getting the tickets online because they usually have a 15% off discount code. Before you walk into the experience, they have a coat check and a variety of drinks for purchase. The first room that you will go into is the one in which you will be given instructions as well as your QR code so you can scan it at each exhibit and have your complimentary digital picture taken. How cool is that? Below are a couple of the exhibits that I thought were so cool (I am naming them based on what they had lol): 1. Confetti room: I felt like a little kid again! 2. "You Are Magic": such a neat way to connect with friends or family and light up the room. 3. The Pink Room in which you have to put on some cute heart-shaped glasses in order to see the artwork on the walls. 4. The Silent Disco Room: ok this was definitely one of my favorite! You put on your headphones and dance until you drop. 5. The Ball Pit: remember those ball pits at McDonald's? Ok think that but much larger, all white plastic balls and 3 stations to take pics. Once you are done with the exhibits, you have the opportunity to check out the gift shop that has so many cool things! You definitely have to check this place out either with or without children because it is fun for the entire family. I will definitely be back!

Enjoyed this place with my bestie - we're both big on artsy stuff. Was worth the money we paid! Such cool photo ops. Would have loved a couple more rooms. I did not like the black ice cream tho and the ball pit smells like feet of course but they can't really help that maybe. Overall a fun time

If I could give color factory a 3.5 I would. Me and my friends bought tickets for a Saturday evening and bought tickets beforehand. Luckily there was a promo code for lunar new years so our tickets for 5pm were about $30. We really struggled with parking, the lot was full in front of the entrance but we parked on morningside and walked over. Once you check in they wait until a group is ready and provide you so instructions and let you enter. Each room has a different theme and photo idea. You are registered with QR Codes that is then used to link all your photos together and email you then at the end. Some notes on some of the rooms- The ball pit- definitely recommend wearing socks! I came in with Sandles and you are asked to remove them, but the second my feet touched the ball pit, the balls were not soft enough, started hurting my bones on my feet so I decided to skip this one. Also the ball pit had a smell to it- didnt smell very clean. The taffy room- YUMM you can take two but we asked one of the workers if they sell the taffy and they actually said they don't and when we asked if we can get an it extra, she said go ahead. That was really sweet of her- we were happy to try a few more taffy. Ice cream- the ice cream was interesting, at the end they offer you butterscotch or a black hole ice cream and the Ice cream was pre frozen in the sense that it already was in the cone and in a freezer. The butterscotch was yummy! The black hole we were told was chocolate with some toppings. At the very end- it leaves you off at the gift shop. Overall it was a fun group friend activity, could be fun date night and definitely fun for little kids or even babies. I wish there were more rooms and felt like it was too expensive- worth $20 tickets maybe not $30. I also think this is one of those one time events, I wouldn't go back because I don't know if they change the rooms or Themes.

After visiting Color Factory in New York City location, me and my fiancé had to experience the Houston location. I enjoyed the different props and colors in the rooms. I probably took 50 photos outside of the Photo Booth shots. We book tickets online using their website. They had cute little snacks like fortune cookies, taffy and ice cream as we ventured through each art room. We probably could have stayed all day in there taking photos. It's definitely a cute spot to do a date night.

Came with my daughter. Absolutely incredible and super fun. You got a QR code and there are photo stations all over the area. If you want to purchase printed photos, do it on the website before you go in because the price is much higher if you get it at the kiosk there. It was so awesome not having to take selfies. The confetti room was one of my favorite as well as the ballroom. The ice cream at the end was delicious and not what I expected at all. I had a fabulous time and this was a highlight of today.

We went here for our FAMILY ADVENTURE day and my toddler had a blast. You honestly will spend more than an hour in this place, which helped wear my toddler down. Before you enter, you are greeted with free jelly beans, which my toddler attempted to take more than 1 bag. You are ushered into a room where the guide gives you directions and how to take pictures throughout the factory. You are then offered a fortune cookie, which my toddler attempted to take multiples. We spent the most amount of time in at the flying balls sections and put ball area because.....kids! When we are done, we were offered free ice cream. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because they do not allow strollers. It was a struggle carrying around a 20+ pound infant in your arms or car seat. I definitely wouldn't recommend coming with a baby/infant.

It's an awesome place either for family or date nights or just friend time. Enjoyable for kids & adults. We loved it!

OMG this experience was mind blowing. I'm not gonna lie I was skeptical from time I was outside. I thought it was goofing to be a quick and "so so" experience but I was WRONG. The staff was WONDERFUL from start to finish, everyone of them by each section was polite and explained everything clearly to you per station. Each room has its own unique style and experiences. The pictures you receive at the end are well taken and looks beautiful. This is a must have experience and I highly recommend it.

Nellissa B.

Great interactive museum! We had a great time! The staff were really helpful and friendly. It was really crowded but the staff did a great job of keeping everyone in organized. I highly recommend buying tickets online or maybe even going on a weekday! If you have to go on the weekend go early.

The ball room

It was a fun event, some of representatives could've been more engaging. There were treats at some of the stops which were cool. I don't recommend the add on, save your money thank me later.

Brittany K.

We had the best time exploring the color factory! I don't know where to begin! All of the employees were so friendly and explained the process thoroughly and the rooms as needed. Every room felt clean and had hand sanitizer. My seven year old loved the immersive experience, starting off strong with the ball room. She had an absolute blast, then couldn't contain her excitement in the confetti room. We got to touch things, taste things, listen things and even smell things...so much fun! As a mom, my favorite part was having the photos taken as a family in each room so I didn't have to grab for my phone and I actually got to be IN the photos! The Color Factory was so much fun for the whole family!

Ask the Community - Color Factory

Is there a discount for senior citizens?

Unfortunately no, but sometimes you can find a Groupon or other local deal options.

Probably a dumb question but can you wear heels?

Personally, I believe questions are asked to obtain information/knowledge--therefore, no question is a dumb one for me!… Read more

Do we need to wear coats inside? Will it be cold?

It is climate controlled so should not be cold.

Are Yal open on July 4th?

Hi Francis! Yes, we will be open from 9 am - 8 pm. Hope to see you soon!

Is it free on Thursdays?

No. Definitely not free.

How long is it?

It's about an hour. But you can spend as much time as you want in each of the exhibits.

Do you have to wear your mask while taking pictures?

No. They don't require masks if you are vaccinated. If you aren't vaccinated, they say to please wear your mask.

Is there military discount?

I believe so. I would call first. I had a few questions before purchasing and they were very helpful:

How much is it?

$35 for adults, plus tax

Is there anywhere to store bags, purses, backpacks, etc? Is it possible (is there enough time) to do outfit changes?

Not really anywhere to store bags/purses, before you embark on the tour. There is 1 room with bins but they are not locked. You could change outfits before you start, but once you're inside there really isn't a place to change, unless it's… Read more

Is there a limit of photos you can take on the token card?

I don't believe so.

Would you say this would be a fun place for a kids summer field trip? Was there a lot to do! Was there enough space?

Yes and yes! It’s a large 2-story building with many rooms to explore. I encourage you to look into pricing though. I think the regular price is $35/pp. Not sure if there’s a children’s price. They seem to want to attract adults.

How much is it per person?

$35 for adults, $28 for kids 3-12 (I guess they charge teens at the adult rate) and 2 and under is free

Is there a way for them to resend the pictures you took with your token? I must have typed my email wrong because I never got any emails with our pictures.

I thought I did too. But, you can email the customer support and they can help you! My photos were delayed (I believe) for over a day and a half!! They emailed me back with the photo link

What time is the least crowded?

i went at 6PM, the last slot avail. Barely anyone there!

Are cameras allowed in here? to take pictures?

Yes I had my canon

The least enjoyable "immersive" exhibit was the James Turrell one where we just sat on a bench for one minute to watch something, except that nothing happened. I am not an art person, so I wasn't super engaged by this museum as it is pretty similar to other art museums, but I think it's a good one for patient people who enjoy art.

So interesting to join the Moody Center for the Arts Executive Director Allison Weaver on a walk to explore the art on the Rice University campus. An art gallery. Tents with murals. Indoor and outdoor stops. So much fun to stroll through the campus and enjoy works by Jaume Plensa, James Surls, Beverly Pepper and Mark di Suvero. Love the classic giant people formed by huge letters sculpted by Jaume Plensa. The Crown Fountain in Chicago is another well loved piece by Jaume Plensa. Interesting to hear how a work of art either fits or does not fit into a space. For example, Po-um by Mark di Suvero was in a place where the kinetic sculpture did not get the wind it needed to be able to move. Imagine having to uproot and transplant a twisted steel work that weighs hundreds of pounds, but that is what was done. Jaume Plensa wanted his sculpture Mirror to be along a walkway that would have been sweltering in the Houston heat. It looks so much more inviting nestled among the oaks. In fact, you can walk into the sculpture and sometimes students bring chairs to study near the piece. Interesting to hear also about the sea-saws that were used during the pandemic to allow students to interact while keeping them safely six feet apart. The tents served a similar purpose, but also served as a canvas for oversized murals. Don't miss James Turrell's Twilight Epiphany Skyspace. Climb the stairs to reach the second floor. Our tour ended at sunset just in time to watch the sunset sequence which lasts for about 40 minutes. So beautiful. Check out the Moody Center for the Arts Calendar. Admission and tours are free. Parking is available on paid lots on the Rice University Campus.

I have read many books on this point, including one that was incidentally life changing in my third (and final) year of high school, The Cheese Monkeys by Chip Kidd, back when my life could have gone in many artistic directions at NYU and beyond to EGOT but as I languished in high school theatre and was bullied enough I graduated a full year early I thought adult-me should play it safe in the corporate world which was ultimately a stupid decision having lost jobs and career momentum opportunities in the great recession and then again in the onslaught of the pandemic. Nowadays you have shows on the teevee such as Glee and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series that supportively tell gen-z kids to be themselves since they know employment prospects in the corporate world are a rather stacked deck unless your daddy, or a rich man you know from Boy Scouts that requests you call him daddy, owns the whole company. If you are a smart cookie and you read yelp reviews before you go, then you already know what you are getting into here. Many people regret coming to the installation enough that it is captured in reviews below telling you to just look at the pictures here and save yourself the trouble. While that is art "on demand" if you are one of those people, it lacks the visceral experience of walking into the installation and being slightly disappointed there in the flesh that you, yes you, put on pants that were only lightly lager-stained and left your house for this. First, the bouncer/security guard/stern man standing there gives you a longwinded spiel about what you cannot do here - anything fun. You can only take pictures from one specific spot far away from the lights so you see what those photos look like from the same boring ass angle, because taking photos from anywhere else in the building is illegal - or as the joke goes, that is just a sick bird, you mean to say unlawful. You can walk in, but not too closely. There are yuge numbers of security cameras erry where here and they are watching closely if you step even slightly out of line you will have IO guards come out with combat shotguns, pulse rifles, or worse, calculus homework they will make you do no matter how hard you cry. The lights juxtaposed against the blacked out doors/windows and bouncing off of the cement floor are just fun. It feels like it could have been a room in the Colour Factory on Kirby when that passed through town right before the pandemic started. The room at the back with the white lights arranged in art deco patterns is even more interesting to take in, like a fine wine priced above the $2.99 threshold at the local Trader Joe. The main draw of this place is basically that besides the stern man at the front with all of the rules and all of the guards with shotguns probably posted nearby given all of the rules, the lieutenant and I had the entire building to ourselves. So this was a very socially distanced afternoon since we had masks on the entire time indoors and so did the stern man at the front. Now that is a good, safe, pandemic friendly time out of the house unlike some other places such as HMNS. All the rules really harsh the mellow for making this a must see place though. There is no way to do a proper BABY SLUT (patent pending) yoga pose in front of the lights based on the rules, or whatever other kind of photo you need to take for the proper meaningless internet clout points of tomorrow on Rick Tock or whatever that appetizer is on the phones these days. We open at the close, so of course one of their many rules is no White Claws in the exhibit so beauty is NOT in the eye of the beer-holder at this installation - know before you go, yelp dot com. Know before you go.
