Let me say it again - FREE! Little slides, a climbing structure, artificial grass to play on. There is also a classroom set up with toys and games. And better yet, you can bring in your own food and drinks and eat lunch with your little. There are cubbies to store your shoes and other items. There is a sink located in the classroom as well as a changing table. When you enter, you'll check in and you'll get the low down. It wasn't over crowded when I was there and you don't need to make a reservation. Parking may be tricky the first time. There is parking across the street on Clay and a block over - catty corner to the church. If you park along the green fence in one of those two lots - it is free! There are reserved signs pained in the spots - but a little hard to read. If you are concerned about where you parked then just ask the security guard when you entire the church. I took off one star only because with any park-the older kids can trample the littles. Sometimes I felt like some parents weren't keeping an eye on their kids - but that's anywhere. You get one hour to decorate your bear and if you're local you have a few days to pick it up once it dries. Our bears were $85 and shipping was $15. The delivery was smooth and my baby made it to me without any issues. I named her Fern :-). I'd definitely recommend this as a fun activity that's not liquor or food focused. Parking was a bit hectic but we were able to find something right outside. The area itself is walkable with lots of shops and places to eat surrounding it also.

There is some shade provide by the canopies but definitely not enough. The bottom of the slides were still hit by the sun, and they're hot enough to burn you. I don't even wana think about in the middle of summer when Houston gets up to 100 degrees. My 2.5 yo enjoyed the playground otherwise. It was just too hot to enjoy all the things. She did really enjoy the water part and the sand. (We brought her swimming shirt and shorts, and she just walked in the sand and water barefoot. Surprisingly the concrete sidewalks didnt feel hot.) I stayed very close to her as she walked around the metal platforms (i could see this as being super dangerous, especially if crowded). The individual family restrooms are on the water side btw. The park side does not have changing tables in the restrooms. We saw some swings nearby, but there was no shade whatsoever (trees, canopies), which is a bummer bc she loves swings. Carousel is closeby. $3/ride or $6 all day. Parking is a bit further. We found free parking near the roundabout (Googlemaps: Parking man (Free parking)). We went around lunch on a Monday so there was a handful of empty spots, however on a weekend, forget about it. I absolutely hate driving down here. We walked through the Japanese Garden (recommend) since it's on the way to the playground.

The Houston Zoo has and always will be a special place in my heart in Houston. We may be one of…read morethe largest cities in the country, but as far as being a tourist destination, we are not that. The zoo though is a must see in the city. I grew up coming here. From field trips to bringing out of town guests here, it was always at least a yearly visit. Throughout the years, this place has had many changes and it only gets better and better. Parking can be rough at peak times. The direct lot in front can be used for people attending the zoo or visiting Hermann Park. Definitely plan ahead to avoid parking lot nightmares. Tickets have gradually went up over the years, but with those ticket hikes come new and cool additions and experiences in the park. I suggest buying your tickets ahead of time online to avoid the long lines at the gate. The zoo is 55 acres and had a lot to see. I read the zoo now hosts upwards of 575 species with upwards of 4000 animals. You can spend a whole day here seeing all the well maintained animal enclosures. They have everything from the African Forest to the Galapagos Islands and everything in between. There's a wonderful children's zoo where your kids can have a blast playing and see fun animals. You can hand feed giraffes. They also have neat animal encounters on certain days and times. There's a carousel people of all ages can enjoy. There are plenty of snack and dining options all around if you want to grab a bite or a drink. At my age these days, I mainly come for the after hour special events they have throughout the year. I never miss Brew at the Zoo, where adults 21 and over get to come in after hours and explore the zoo while trying vendors upon vendors of local and national brands of adult beverages. During the holidays, I like coming for Zoo Boo or Zoo lights. My all time favorite event which is a splurge is Feast with the Beasts where attendees get to come in after hours and eat tastes of some of the best restaurants in towns while walking around the zoo. So many fun activities that you have to keep an eye out for throughout the year. You don't have to be a little kid to enjoy this place. If you like the outdoors (when the weather is right) or love animals, the Houston Zoo is a must see. I will most definitely be a regular here.

Parking at the Centennial Gardens is a lifesaver, just a brisk walk, 15 or so minutes. The zoo itself is so engaging and currently expanding: there's going to be a rhino viewing area that's set to be finished by 2027. The only real villain of the day was the weather. When it wasn't intensely humid, it was raining like God was trying to power wash away our sins.
