This is Houston's oldest fire house. It was still in use all the way through 1968. It's a small museum and basically just the building to show what life was like back then. They have props that you can take pictures with and have some old style fire engines. read more

While the kids had fun, the museum only had one room really dedicated to them. I was expecting an old engine or two for them to climb. There was a short pole for them to slide down, and an "engine cab" they could use to flash lights and pretend to drive. There's some fire coats and hats to wear. Give your crew 30 minutes and they're ready to go. For adults, there's a lot of history and memorials to some very brave firefighters. read more

Wasn't impressed at all. Just seems kind of thrown together and not well thought out. Staff was incredibly rude and didn't even want to look up from her computer to help us when we wanted to buy merchandise. We were extremely disappointed when we went upstairs and the area where they were honoring firefighters that had died in the line of duty had become a storage area for t-shirts and boxes. For a local museum this was really cool. This original fire house had been serving house since the late 1800's and I was so pumped to read about it through it's museum. They had original fire trucks and hoses, plus other memorabilia from the fire station as it grew. They also sold t-shirts and other Houston fire uniforms for staff, which I thought was really cool. All in all, I was rather impressed with my quick walk through of this local station. read more

Small museum and it is probably better for kids parties. I went with another group who likes to tour some of Houston's lesser-known museums. There are a couple of old trucks here and the upstairs shows more how the men who stayed here may have lived at the time. There is an area in the back that is mainly for kids and their parties. read more

3 year old approved! We spent well over an hour in the kids play area. Every aspiring firefighters dream. The rest of the museum may not appeal as much to the younger kiddos but adults will definitely enjoy. The look back at the firefighters uniforms over the decades was a personal favorite. read more

A great historical museum that's fun for the kids, especially 4 and under. I emailed the museum the night before regarding getting a guided tour, and whether it will be good for 2 and 4 year olds. Heather promptly called me back the next morning (while I was driving there) and let me know that while guided tours are usually booked two to three days in advance for about 10-12 people, that she would not mind showing us around the museum. I really appreciate the time she took to return my message and to explain everything. When we got there, you need to take a careful look at the parking signs right in front. It almost looks like there is no parking in front of the museum (on from 7-7PM. But if you look closer, the signs say no parking from 7-9AM and 4-6PM. The museum is open from 10AM-4PM, so feel free to pull in. One of the firefighters doing a Fire Safety session was tipped off that two more parties were coming, so he went outside to wait, and asked if we were here for Fire Safety. He then graciously said he would wait for us before starting the presentation. That was awesome. The firefighters gave a very informative and kid-friendly presentation, first demonstrating how they put on their firefighting gear. Then they showed the kids how to stop, drop, and roll (while asking some of the kids to do it with them) and gave important safety tips to kids in case of a fire. #1, make sure you don't hide from a firefighter! They gave all the kids a jr. firefighter helmet and an air mask to play with, and then they gave them a jr. firefighter sticker for keeps. They were also hanging around to answer our (parents' ) questions. Your children will love the fire engine and the house in the back room, and of course the toy section of the store. However, my son also enjoyed looking at the old fire engines on display (one was circa 1937), but my kids ran through the rest of the museum pretty quickly, since it was mostly history. Upstairs they have a tribute to all the Houston firefighters who have sacrificed their lives, and then there are lockers full of memorabilia dating back to the 1890's. Really great museum to visit, but it only took about 1 hr. 45 minutes. Plan on checking out this museum and then go grab an early lunch! read more

Ladies at the front desk weren't very excited about their jobs or maybe they were having a bad day. Idk, but it's a cool place to bring kids. Glad they had fun so I give them 4 stars but their staff get 1 star for their $#itty service read more

We came expecting a museum but it literally is just an old fire house. There are two historic fire trucks in the first floor and the second floor contains sectioned off living quarters. It's an interesting place but we were left underwhelmed with a "that's it?" feeling. There are no opportunities to actually see the fire trucks in action. There was a birthday party going on which seems awkward because museum visitors with kids (like us) are free to come through and play on an actual fire truck cockpit. And really for a 3 yr old, there's really not much else to do at this place. So, overall make this a side stop on the way to something else. Making a dedicated trip to this museum from Katy or anywhere outside the loop might leave you a bit underwhelmed. read more

Parking is a little crazy. This place is pretty awesome that used to be a station until 1986 I believe. If you were visiting firefighter or have something to do with the fire department let them know and you get to sign the roll up doors. Call merchandise and a super cool place for the kids to play. Definitely a place to check out if you're in the area pretty cheap five dollars for adults three dollars for kids under 12 read more

Absolute must do if you (or your kids) are into fire fighting business. Located in the old building that once hosted an actual fire station, it is not big but certainly atmospheric. Of course, kids will love the play room with so many cool features - from dress-ups to pole and a 2-story playhouse. read more

We had a fun, 45 min visit there with our two and a half year old. She had fun seeing the fire trucks, the upstairs bunk room, and the kids play area- which was thankfully open to the public that day. If going with young kids, check to make sure the play area is open. There is enough local history, artifacts and pictures to entertain the grown-ups too. read more

This was a big hit for my son's 3rd birthday party. He was really into fire engines then and this was perfect. The fire pole and sitting in the fire engine was the biggest hit. The place is rather small, so there was not a lot of room for running around. And at the age of 3 they weren't very interested in the history of the fire house, but all had a good time. Since it's centrally located, it was easy for all of the families to get to. Parking is limited. read more

cute little museum. brought my nephew over the weekend and he had a pretty good time. before you go, check to see if there's a party in progress. if not, you can't go into the kids play room which is the best part about the museum (for kids). There was a party that ended at 3:30 and the museum closes at 4:00. The party continued past their 3:30 end mark so we ended up going in with the party, but it was very crowded. In the kids room, they have fire uniforms and helmets for the kids to try on, stairs to climb and a pole to slide down. Nice place for a kids party. read more

Nice little spot. Really neat to see what a fire house used to look like and some great pieces of history, as well as a tribute to fallen officers. We came on a Saturday and could only use the play room when it wasn't reserved for a birthday party. From what I was told by the front desk, it is usually closed off all day for birthdays on Saturday. Just something to think about if you have small kids (which we do). Without the play room, it would have been a quick visit (maybe 20 minutes max). read more
