Ate here for lunch on a recommendation from a coworker while I was in town…read more Typical Texas BBQ joint atmosphere, quaint with a hint of BBQ smoke lingering in the air. The Food: WOW, absolutely amazing Texas style BBQ. I had the 2 meat plate, brisket and sausage with 2 sides, fries and beans. The portion size was Texas sized and this meal ended up being lunch and dinner. The brisket was Smokey and moist, the sausage had an excellent flavor with a good crisp on the skin. Fries are Fries, kinda hard to mess that up, and the beans were. The staff were friendly and smiling the entire time. They answered all of my questions and actually engaged us while we were there. I will definitely return here next time I am in town.

I was greeted as soon as I walked in the guy behind the counter helped me with my choices. I was looking for either 2 or 4 piece chicken tender meals since there are two of us for dinner. As far as FRIED chicken their only two options (excluding BBQ) are 3 or 5 piece tenders or a bundle of wings w/tots or fries. I opted for the 5 with tots so we both could have at least 2 tenders each. As I waited I noticed the restaurant was pretty clean, the drive thru was busy and looks like they were also getting a catering order ready for delivery. My wait wasn't that long perhaps 5-7 minutes as the chicken is cooked fresh when ordered. None of that precooked crap under a heat lamp here. We really liked our chicken tender dinner w/tots and the assorted dipping sauces on the side. Nice portion size enough for 2 people for sure. No pics to post as I forgot my camera but will definitely post pics on our next BBQ mission. They do have a nice BBQ menu and I'm not sure why their online menu doesn't show chicken tender meals???

Arrived and there were not many cars in the parking lot. As the reviews say, it doesn't look like much on the outside, but the food is really good. I think it looks very quaint on the outside, but inside looks like it was thrown together. Just inside the door is a pile of busted-up cardboard boxes lying on the floor. The place across the street is "Ban Moon", a Lao & Thai Restaurant, which has also been recommended for us to try. Their parking lot is full. Putting Ban Moon on the list. Bubba's Smokehouse dining room is filled with small tables and chairs, not much of anything else. There is a large cooler with lots of Brisket ready to be seasoned and smoked, along with large containers of Potato Salad and even larger containers of their Beans - and lots of containers of Pickles. Nice. They do have a loaf of white bread at each table for you to use at will, along with a roll of paper towels. The menu board is above the small counter where you order. My Wife went with the Brisket Sandwich with one side and chose Cole Slaw. I ordered their 2-meat plate, Brisket and Chicken. I asked if they had Moist Brisket, and the lady taking our order paused and said, well, the brisket is, well, moist. This also comes with 2 sides. I chose Beans and Cole Slaw. We also ordered 2 drinks, Diet Cokes. Orders are in, and we grabbed a table, which was easy because no one was sitting down. The aroma from the kitchen is filling the room, and it smells good. I grabbed a couple of containers of Pickles and White Onion pieces, and some silverware. Wasn't long before our food arrived in take-out containers, which is the best way to serve food at a BBQ place - no mess. My Wife's 'Moist' Brisket Sandwich has a lot of sliced Brisket piled up high, more than the other BBQ places around here, and a small container of Cole Slaw. My 2 Meat Plate has a Very Large Chicken Leg & Thigh with 2 slices of 'Moist' Brisket under. Speaking of Moist, I don't think these employees here know what Moist Brisket is because the Brisket we received is sliced regular Brisket. I first tried the Cole Slaw, and it is good. Love the juiciness and the fresh crunch. My Wife also liked the Cole Slaw. The Beans are a little dry and not much flavor until you get down to the juice in the bottom of the small container. My Large Chicken Leg and Thigh are just about lukewarm, with the leg being on the cold side. There is nothing wrong with eating cold chicken, but it's not what you want when you go out to eat. It's nicely seasoned and is Very Meaty - I like that. The Chicken itself is on the dry side, but I like the seasoning of the skin. The "Moist" Brisket is also dry because it's not a Moist Brisket, and a little tough, not tender at all, and it lacks any flavor. They do have 3 sauces for you at the table with a bottle of store-bought hot sauce. One sauce is Regular, and it's okay in flavor. The next one up is, I think, Spicy Sauce (the markings are wearing off), and it's not much different than the regular sauce. The sauce marked 'Hot' is on the mild side, but overall, they are all pretty good and provide added flavor to a not-so-flavorful brisket. I didn't try the store-bought hot sauce. The Pickles are delicious, with a nice crunch, and the white onion has very little onion heat to them, but they also have a nice crunch. The best I can say is that we tried Bubba's Smokehouse, but I doubt we will return. The best thing on our plates was the Cole Slaw, but my Wife did enjoy her sliced Brisket Sandwich, and she tried all of their sauces, regular, spicy, and hot. I ate one of the slices of Brisket along with a few bites of Chicken. The rest I'm taking home to see what I can do to improve what I can. Bubba's Smokehouse is not what we expected, especially since it has been recommended to us several times. We have yet to find a really good BBQ place in San Angelo, but we will stick to the one we usually attend until we do. Wherever we go out to eat, we always have fun and enjoy the outing. The Staff at Bubba's is very friendly.

Now, I'm born and raised mostly in Kansas City, MO, home of the world famous American Royal and American Royal BBQ so I know BBQ! My second taste is authentic Mexican food having lived in Southern California. OK back to BBQ, we decided on Bodacious simply because we have driven past it numerous times and it's close to historic downtown. The restaurant is very clean with plenty of seating inside and outside. We were welcomed in and the friendly team member took our order. The menu has several items to pick from and I was really hoping for burnt ends and did not see them on the menu. I haven't had burnt ends since leaving Kansas City back in 2013. Our wait wasn't very long until he called my name. Due to low supply of ribs my husband was only able to get a 1/2 order with his coleslaw which was ok because they discounted the price by 1/2 so not bad. I opted for the 2 meat dinner with 2 sides. I would have like a little more of the meat as I mostly got sausage. We both loved our meals, tender flavorful meat, great baked beans and the coleslaw and Mac-n-cheese were good as well. The prices were comparable to other restaurants in the area plus they have a desert choice too. While we were sitting and devouring our dinner, we noticed a lot of carry out orders so that was nice to see their carry out business was busy. We try to avoid chain restaurants and stick to mom & pop businesses and we prefer to do business downtown or as close to it as possible to support our local businesses. Those to the N, W, S, E and rural areas of town can support those outer-lying businesses. We will be returning customers and I do recommend you give these folks a try the next time you have the urge for BBQ. I hope you will be just as pleased as we were with wherever you choose your next BBQ dining.

"OUR VALENTINES DAY" -…read more Yesterday was Valentines Day (in case you didn't know, and if you didn't know, you can buy your Valentine some candy and flowers for half price today). Anyway, since my Lovely Wife didn't want to cook up a Special Valentines Dinner for me, I decided to take her out to eat. For some reason she didn't want to eat at Wienerschnitzel, so I came up with something else - "Packsaddle BBQ" for their Fried Catfish. They recently have been chosen as the Best Fried Fish in all of San Angelo. But before that, our Valentines Day started off with Coffee (Honey Almond), Cards & Gifts and a Delicious Breakfast prepared by my Lovely Wife. Happy Valentines Day Baby, Love You Bunches & ValentineMunches. We left for Packsaddle a little earlier than our normal dinner time because after we eat we are heading out to the Museum of Fine Arts for a Special Display of "Where Children Sleep". Walked in and was greeted by Rachel, a Server we have had several times. Chatted with her for a while, then chose a booth. Even for an early dinner, there are a good number of people at Packsaddle. McKenna is our Server and we ordered our drinks, then the "Fried Catfish"; 4-Catfish Filets Hand Breaded in Southern Style Cornmeal, served with Hushpuppy, Tartar Sauce & Red Sauce with choice of 2-sides, chose Mac-N-Cheese and Pinto Beans. We are sharing this plate. It didn't take them long to serve us our Catfish and it looks Delicious with 4-Huge Filets. My first bite was without any sauce - this Catfish is served HOTTT and it's mighty good stuff. Love the thick breading on this thick filet, very tastylicious with a light crunch. My Wife said that this is the Best Catfish she has had, and she wanted some more from my plate. Hey fellows, it's okay this time because it's Valentines Day - if that's what she wants, that's what she gets. Love You Baby - have another. This is some of the Best Catfish you can have anywhere. Love their Tartar sauce and the Red Sauce is thicklylicious. The Pinto Beans are mighty-meaty-beans and the Mac-N-Cheese is also some good stuff - and my Wife LoVed the Hushpuppy. Packsaddle BBQ also gives the Ladies a Chocolate dipped Strawberry for Valentines Day - and we both enjoyed this. The Strawberry was Sweet-N-Juicylicious with a nice amount of Chocolate. Nicely done Packsaddle - we loved everything we had. McKenna earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. When you want some Great BBQ or have a craving for some Catfish, stop in at Packsaddle BBQ - they have lots of choices on their menu. - also, stop in on the Third Saturday of each month and enjoy the Car Show. Sometimes my "Vette-Jet" is also there with lots of Hot Rods, Custom Cars and some really nice rides.
