Bb.q is by far the best KFC in Michigan. I was so excited when they opened a second location in AA. The first time we stopped by, there was a sign saying last order had to be placed at 2:30 pm due to closing for an hour. I was pretty disappointed then but when we came around this time, I was so happy that they changed it for the weekends. The staff were all so nice and helpful. This location is slightly different- I like that the Troy location has a few extra utensils on each table (extra paper plates, chopsticks, forks, gloves). They gave us a couple extra napkins but they were pretty small (napkins used for drinks). We ordered the kimchi fried rice- which is always delicious and pretty consistent. And a medium (16 pcs) Gangnam style- our favorite. Yes, it's pretty pricey but the chicken is worth it! It is definitely better enjoyed at the restaurant, so the chicken doesn't lose its crisp. We have tried legit Korean fried chicken in Korea and tried BB.Q in California. The one here is pretty good. Of course nothing can compare to Korea. From the moment we sat down, the waitress checked if we had any food allergies (their menus also have a note for people with allergies). She also let us know that it would take 25-30min for the food to come out (which is average for a korean fried chicken place). We ordered the Half & Half Whole Chicken (half golden original and half secret sauce). They have kpop music videos playing all over the screens so it creates a legit Korean restaurant environment. The golden original was good and had a good crispiness to it. It stayed hotter longer when it was brought out. The secret sauce was my preferred flavor. I liked that it was sweet tasting and the texture was crunchy too. Both chicken platters came with radish and it had good flavor and cut up to a good bite size. My favorite is the cheesling wings - they make it better than any of other bb.q restaurants. Friendly staff, plenty of seating but wouldn't allow anyone to sit in the booths, supposedly for a reservation but no one showed up after a couple hours. As patrons came in the servers kept telling them sit anywhere and if they chose the booths, the servers quickly and politely told them to sit elsewhere. This was my family's first time trying a Korean BBQ chicken place. We didn't quite know how it worked, but the waitstaff here was super helpful. We tried the honey garlic bone-in chicken wings. They took a bit to prepare but came out quite hot, crispy and HUGE. We ordered 16 wings for three people and had leftovers because the wings are easily double the size of wings you'd get anywhere else. The staff provided gloves and a bucket for the bones and both were very helpful. The wings were flavorful, crispy and delicious and I think we've found a new favorite place in Ann Arbor. Lively place. The staff works hard and is very nice and attentive. Atmosphere: noisy and not relaxing. A bit chaotic, actually. When I got there, there was a table of kids who were playing in the middle of the restaurant and screeching so loud. Finally they left and another family came in with two children that were literally running and chasing each other all around the restaurant. Not bb.q's fault, but idk if this is a regular thing. If you want a quiet place. This isn't it. This is only my second time having Korean fried chicken and the first time (Miss Kim's) was absolutely amazing, so maybe my expectations were too high. I got bone-in wings with secret sauce, which is supposed to be tangy and somewhat spicy. It just tasted like cooking oil to me. Like wayyy too much oil. Maybe that's what they have to do to get the chicken so crispy but I'm just not a fan. I'm not sure if it was the chicken I didn't like or the sauce, but it was neither tangy nor spicy. Oil was the dominant flavor. I only ate a few of the wings and a bowl of steamed rice. I got a to-go box for the leftovers but I really don't want them. Maybe it's just me. Maybe you'd love this place. The chicken is half the price of Miss Kim's. I'd rather pay double for their fried chicken. Also, they only gave me one little cocktail napkin for these very saucy wings. I asked for more and they gave me three or four more, then asked me if I wanted gloves. I never heard of that but it's a great idea. I just don't understand why they don't have real napkins. Also also, my food came in a weird order. First the chicken and a few minutes later the rice, and then my drink several minutes later. (It's a good thing the chicken wasn't actually spicy because I'd have been in trouble!) My drink was a peach slushy and it was delicious. Lastly, the place was very clean from the dining area to the bathroom to what I could see of the food prep area. I really wanted to like this place but I don't think I'll be back. Maybe it's just me. Polite staff, made sure I knew the Korean fried chicken takes extra time to prepare fresh. The portion they gave me was MASSIVE, it was juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. (I ate it all) The sauce was quite good, and it was drenched in sauce. I even thought the sweet potatoes fries were above average. Don't know what makes these fries so tasty, but they were exceptional. You get a lot of meat and a little bit of fries, which is better than getting mostly fries and a little bit of meat. The staff is pretty good about quickly cleaning the tables after people leave, and they've got K-pop performances on the television. I did not stay to eat, but the ambiance was fine. The other sauce I get is the secret sauce, love that sweet and tangy flavor. I also only get wings, because they are 1) easier to eat and 2) the sauce to meat ratio is a lot better. I would recommend you order online and do pickup. They do offer dining option, but it was busy when I stopped in to pick up my order. They have tables to the left and right side of the entrance and bar seating area at the back of the store. The app told me the order would be ready at 6:15pm, got there little early, but the order didn't come out until 6:25pm. I came ravenous after a long workout . I'm not usually a fan of fried food, but I'm Glad I tried this pace! The inside is neat and clean. I chose to dine in and the service was wonderful. There were so many options of fried chicken and many Korean variations. I got the golden delight, which is their basic. I ordered the ddeok-bokki as well. They were both fab! The chicken was perfect. Hot and crispy. The rice cakes were the rose version which was creamy with the perfect amount of spices. I particularly loved that the chicken was accompanied by pickled radishes to balance the richness. The only thing I think would improve the experience is to have more vegetables to balance the heat and richness of the other options. I'm SO glad I finally could try this place! It had been on my list for awhile and I finally went. We were warmly greeted and told to sit wherever we would like. We were brought menus and water for the table. The waitress was quick to point out the best options for non-spicy chicken since we had a young child with us. That was incredibly thoughtful. We waited a reasonable amount of time for our food. The portions are great for the price. This is not popcorn chicken - it is basically full chicken thigh pieces. The flavoring and crispiness were perfect. The kimchi rice bowl is quite spicy but delicious. K-Pop concert footage and music videos were playing on all of the screens. The waitress and another staff member checked in on us a few times to make sure we were doing well. The restaurant was clean and so were the bathrooms. So glad this is finally open!! I live nearby and I've been excited as soon as I saw their coming soon storefront. I've had bb.q chicken in California before and it was so delicious so I knew I had to come check it out for their soft opening. It was definitely busy but we were seated as soon as we walked in. We ordered the Mala Ddeok-Bokki, a medium order (16 pc) of the secret sauce boneless wings and an order of French fries. There definitely was a bit of a wait to get out food and I think there may~ have been an issue with our order having gotten input correctly in their system. But of course they just opened, were backed up with orders and super busy so I'm sure they'll get all the kinks sorted out in time. The staff was super kind and friendly despite how busy it was. The food was so good! The chicken was amazingly crispy and super tender and juicy! I remember their Secret Sauce having a tad more heat to it but ours was definitely more on the sweet side. Will definitely order more spicy ones next time. The mala Ddeok-Bokki definitely had all the heat we were hoping for. Perfect level of spice - my partner was even sweating a little. This has become our new go to spot. We havent had anything we didnt like here, our current favorites are spicy gal-bi wings and gangnam style wings, Also really like the Caribbean rice bowl. Online ordering always just works the way it should and its always ready when it should be "only the first month or so was this not the case" Staff is friendly and efficient and the Maple road location is always busy, always a good sign. What I like about this place is they have more sauce options than most Korean wings places I have been to. Our favorite sauce that we have tried was the gochujang wings not crazy spicy but nice kick with great flavor. The kalbi was good reminded me more of traditional American bbq, did not remind me of eating grilled Kalbi but the sauce was ok. The cheesling fries were good, but I did prefer Noori's magic fries. I cannot describe how thrilled I am to have a great fried chicken spot at Westgate. I got a few wings to go, and not only were they still crispy when I got home - they were still crispy out of the fridge the next day. Chicken the way chicken was meant to be! I have high expectation for fried chicken from years in the industry. This chicken is one of, if not THE, best fried chicken I've ever eaten. The golden crispness holds its crunchy goodness in carryout!! There's magic in their recipe. Each bite has the requisite crunch from the batter and moistness from the chicken. That could be enough for most restaurants but bb.q Chicken goes further with a recipe that holds its flavor and shape beyond the restaurant doors. You won't find a carryout container riddled with broken off bits. And the flavor is just as good next day out of the refrigerator. Many restaurants fail where bb.q Chicken excels across the board. The flavor options are unique and even my often picky kids loved the Special Sauce and Cheesling flavors. The goodness doesn't stop at the chicken. I could happily eat the Ddeok-Bakki as my meal. I look forward to trying the other options in the future. Speaking of future, our kids have already asked that bb.q Chicken Ann Arbor be our primary chicken restaurant.
