a.k.a. "The Pub". What's the deal when a restaurant in Southeast Alaska is out of fresh fish (salmon and halibut) and out of fish & chips? Turns out their suppliers weren't local, and the delivery was late. I had a reasonable steak sandwich, but they charged me a $2 upgrade to have salad instead of fries (on a $14 steak sandwich, that's pushing it). The service was slow, and my gin & tonic was a little sweet (stale tonic? - not much fizz). I've been before when it's been better (though not great), but I don't think I'll go back again. read more

I try to see the bright side of most restaurants and try to leave a decent review. But unfortunately in this instance I received bad service in which I can't overlook. I went in to place a take out order of 2 appetizers and was told 25 minutes. I return in 25 minutes to pick up and it seems like my order was not put in to be made. No explanation or anything. I'm just told another 10 minutes. I can understand if you're busy but be honest with me. Once again I return and I'm told 10 more minutes. At that point I request a refund. I'm not waiting anymore. If I were at a table I would've walked out after 25 minutes. It seemed like service for everyone else was moving fine. But my take out order got lost massively in the shuffle. read more

The day we stopped in for lunch the place was busy!! Atmosphere was nice it was way bigger than it seemed. The waiter was nice and he was quick to get us served with cold drinks. I ordered the wings and did not like them at all. First off they had too much of a dry rub and the combination of the rub and the smoke was not very good. Secondly they were not tossed in sauce and it was very difficult to get the sauce on the wings. The fries were awesome. My husband ordered a burger and he ordered it medium but it came out very well done. Drinks were cold and the waiter was nice. Food could have been better. read more

I had a French Dip sandwich and it came with French Fries. The meal was wonderful. The atmosphere was very laid back, hockey was playing on the TV and my table really enjoyed that! On our stopover here at Sitka, we decided to try some local Alaskan food, and had their fish and chips with some local beers. The service was friendly. The view of the harbor was pleasant. The fish and chips were generous and quite good. Yes the fries were dark, but they were moist and tasted great--not frozen out of a bag. Having been here numerous times and I have to say its gone way down especially the employees.I usually sit at the front bar watch everything going on in the area along with kitchen. Recently I experienced a no care attitude by the staff along with the owner drinking in the bar and cussing away with the employees.Nothing is wiped down and sanitized unless you ask and get a negative reply like there doing you a favor. Sneaky good. You can easily walk right by this because it's on the 2nd floor of a building in downtown Sitka... and you'll miss out if you don't make your way here when you are visiting. Our family got to go salmon fishing while in Sitka for a few hours. Great news! We all caught a fish (humble brag, mine was the biggest) and were starving but only had 30 minutes before we needed to leave. We told our server here and he hustled hard for us. It felt like my crisp IPA appeared instantly and our food was delivered with to-go boxes and the check simultaneously. We came in on a Thursday for after-dinner drinks and had to come back the following Thursday night for the build your own mac and cheese special, which was incredibly delicious especially after a day of biking, hiking, and swimming. You know what they say, "The kitchen is always right." Wait, is that what they say? I get the feeling this is becoming more and more of a visitor-oriented restaurant than a local pub. And, I guess that's ok, we get a lot of visitors. As a local, though, I still want to go to a place where I can count of consistent food and decent service. I almost always order the Reuben here, so I am quite familiar with what the sandwich looks and tastes like. My last sandwich was way low on meat. Mostly just a grilled cheese with sauerkraut. So I flagged down my waiter, and told him what I was experiencing. He said "hold on, I'll get you some more meat" and went to the kitchen. Then he came back and said that the kitchen told him they weigh the meat for the sandwich, so what I had was what I was gonna get. He didn't take the sandwich to the kitchen to show the cook, or the manager. I think that this model of customer service works for a place that knows that they won't see their customers again because they are passing through town. For us "live-heres' though, this is the model of service that get them two stars on a Yelp review. That's too bad - we need solid year-round restaurant options. There is also an obsession with refilling the napkin and condiment caddy while customers are eating at the table. I get it - you want those caddies stocked. And, does that need to happen during someone's conversation? At the very least, the person stocking could do a check in with the table (not ignore them because this is the last thing they have to do before they get off their shift). Or, here's an idea - the caddies are just cardboard 6-pack holders. Why not stock a caddy at the server station, then swap it out at the table. Then, it is a quick action rather than an intrusion. read more

If you're over 21 the pub might be a lot better, I was more patient than before since I can now get a (local) beer or cocktail which are all so delicious. John Dallies all the way! For anyone who wants a light and simple kick start of the night or day. It's a sports bar so it does get loud in there and family restaurant-- they'll respect any complaints. They have darts and pool tables to keep yourself entertained if it's not taken, it doesn't take some time to play. There's trivia night on Wednesdays I think? If you're in to that and Wings every Thursday! So exciting! Service does get busy and slow on weekends but they'll get to you as soon as possible. If you want to start your drinking, start at the Pub. Hungover? They have brunch here and perfect Bloody Marie's! Very surprised to see this kind of high end Gastro pub type restaurant in a smaller city. Definitely they have something for everyone! I stopped by here for a work trip and they had halibut fish and chips as one of their specials for the week. I had to give it a try because I have never had halibut before. All I have to say is-- best fish and chip I've ever had in my whole life!! The batter and fish was nice and flakey. I was a little upset that I've discovered halibut so late in life! Now I feel like I am on a halibut kick and ordering halibut everything. Definitely a good place if you wanted to grab a drink and some bar food. They also have a game room with darts and pool. The Skirt Steak was kind of a disappointment - it was extremely thin and I requested a medium rare but it came medium well done. Burgers were huge. I thought we'd get fresh hamburger meat but it was a patty? Husband got fresh but mine was a patty. The pretzel buns are amaaaazing. Have choices of different cheeses, I got cheddar. Onion rings are hand dipped and deliciously crunchy. LOVE love love the house sauce on the burgers. Appetizers of deep fried pickle spears. VERY GOOD. Super crunch on the outside & amazing pickle flavor bursting on the inside. Great with the ranch dip. Husband & cousins fries were extra super crispy. Sorry, yelpers, our experience didn't live up to the prior ratings. Service was chaotic and unattentive. Salads were boring. The rockfish salad topper was disappointing (small and overcooked) given the upcharge. Skip the skirt steak -- tough and without flavor. The baked potato was also overcooked. Great little pub in Sitka! We ate here a few times during our stay because of how great the food was! They have a low-carb plate that comes with all the veggies you could want and your pick of seafood that's super great and well-seasoned! Their fish and chips is awesome, and they even have carrot and parsnip fries that are a really great (healthier) substitute for the potato fries! Side note- Try Pimm's Cup! read more

Good visit at "The Pub", comfortable old school venue with a great view, huge selection of craft beers (IMO a little too many IPAs), unique menu and great service. I had the pub burger with house cut fries and it was perfect. Fries were exceptionally good and I found it surprising they had "fry sauce" which I love. O boy. The Bayview Pub was on fire this year with awesome food and drinks. The beer selection had a huge variety of choices. The food was off the hook. I had the Halibut fish and chips and it was outstanding. There rest of our party had Lamb Chops and a Halibut sandwich which were all awesome. The staff was super and the place was hopping. Had a one night layover in Sitka and the Bayview Pub was a great place to spend the evening. The service was prompt and the staff was very pleasant. The Fried Pickles and the Pub Burger (the double of course) were a hit. They have a great selection of beers that went well with the Bacon & Bleu Cheese Fries that were ordered for the table. This was my last attempt at supporting this restaurant. The past 4 times I've gotten food at the Pub, my order has been wrong. The last time, they delivered us the wrong food, and DURING COVID asked us if we still had the other food they had delivered mistakenly which really concerned me. We tried one more to support them, ordered food on the phone, had our order repeated to us three times, and were told it would be 20 minutes. My boyfriend went to pick up the food, and when he got there, he asked the bartender if he had time to order a beer. The bartender said no it would be 30 seconds. 10 minutes went by and the bartender did not apologize or tell my boyfriend he had time to order a drink. He finally ordered one, asked what the $3 beer was, and the bartender rolled his eyes and said shortly "my cheapest beer is $7" my boyfriend said "you're selling cans of rainier for $7???" And the bartender said "oh... no $3.25" so my boyfriend got a beer and waited (15 minutes longer than we were told - with no reasoning why since it would apparently be 30 seconds when he got there? Then we got home, and our order wasn't even correct? SO since our order was repeated to us 3 times correctly - it's easy for me to surmise that the order was NOT sent to the kitchen when we ordered it. Instead of owning up to his mistake, and even offering a free beer while my boyfriend waited - he was met with rudeness and then we had the wrong food. AGAIN. Never again read more

Have visited Sitka many times and regret this is the first time I've stopped in here to eat. I was hungry for a burger, but they were serving brunch, so I decided to have a breakfast sandwich. It was pretty tasty and was served on a soft brioche roll and with home fries. It looks like it was a lot heavier than it was and was very tasty and well made. I would definitely recommend eating here and look forward to stopping in again. read more

One of the worst experience I've ever had. Last night I ordered the Reuben sandwich, it was way to salty and I could not finish it. The next day I notice I had forgot my hat and called about it. Who every I talked to was quite rude. But I do believe in giving businesses a second chance, so I thought I would give them a second try. It was even worse. The waitress was rude and the fried pickles were slightly better than the meal the night before. I had some friends meeting me and that they were here and that I would be joining them. She said that I would have to cash out then. I said okay and for her to meet me at the order table. She said "no" I would have to cash out "NOW" since she was leaving. She was the rudest waitress I've ever come across in my life. Almost forgot, when I asked if they had wifi, the waitress said that their wifi was not for customers. We enjoy going to the Bayview for half-price happy hour. My favorite is the sliders, which is three small ground beef burgers with cheese and grilled onions. My partner's favorite is the chicken strips and fries. One thing I can say about the Bayview is that the food is prepared fresh each day. I love their home-made french fries way more than I should! I give the Bayview 4 stars because their food is inconsistent. I've had some really great dishes here and I've had some "iffy" dishes. The fish tacos are such a big disappointment; no creativity or imagination used for that recipe. This was our lunch stop in Sitka after a long walk through a beautiful city by the sea. We both had the pub burgers (I had the double) and we shared chips and salsa. Overall, pricing was on point for the area as this is a big tourist town for cruise ships. The food was excellent! Service was quick, efficient, and informative on the surrounding area.
