A group of us stopped into Mean Queen for lunch while exploring Sitka. Mean Queen offers a full bar. There is a pool table as well as mounted TVs for entertainment. Discover is an accepted form of payment. While looking over the menu, I sipped on a glass of Pinot Grigio for $9. My daughter had a Mean Queen Ice Tea for $7. Our table shared the Fried Cheese Curds for $11 and Ghosted Wings (qty 10) for $19. My daughter and I ordered an Oyster Shooter for $3.50 each. The mignonette was missing. We also ordered an Oyster Shooter for $8.50 which was served alongside a shot of tomato juice. We're from Washington and our oysters are served with pizazz. The oysters we received were lackluster and it didn't help that the mignonette was missing. I should have read the room better and ordered pizza like all the other patrons were doing. Really wanted to like Mean Queen but service was slow and made for a less than ideal experience. They were out of a lot of seafood items. Our food came out at different times; by the time my friend got her cheesy rolls, I had pretty much already finished my lunch combo. We stopped by as part of an excursion and Brian and Ryan took care of us with champagne and raw oysters as an appetizer to our next few stops. The place is quite popular and has a very diverse menu with lots of seafood choices as well as pizza, beers and cocktails. Whatever you do don't ring the bell by the back wall as if you do you are buying drinks for the entire bar and if you don't the local authorities are called and you won't be happy. Came by very hungry, left full. The place was busy when we got them and waited about 15 minutes for a table. The interior was nice and they had sports on multiple screens. Waiter told us kitchen was backed up and would be 30-45 minutes to get pizzas. We ordered fried cheese curds and fried pickles while we waited. They were both very good. We got both pizzas and they did not last long as we devoured them pretty quick. The one with the portobello mushrooms was marginally ok. Not a huge fan. The other pizza was exceptionally good. Stopped here on a Thursday night. They offer Thursday night specials which I didn't try. I spoke one of the pizzas with a friend. The pizza came out in a timely manner. Our server was very friendly and let us know it was probably going to take longer for our order which we were fine with. I was in Sitka for 3 nights and I ate at the Mean Queen 3 times! Twice for dinner and once for breakfast. This place has some of the best pizza I've had in a while and they have fresh squeezed OJ for all of your breakfast drinking needs. You have to go up a large flight of stairs to get to the dining area which is decently sized. The wait staff was very accommodating to our large party for dinner (I'm talking like 18 people!) and they were equally friendly and attentive when I returned and sat solo at the bar for dinner the following night. If you find yourself in Sitka and you can't go wrong with Mean Queen. read more

The Queen of Sitka Eateries There aren't a lot of restaurant options in Sitka, Alaska, but one is enough when that one is the Mean Queen. It merits a recommendation for the wonderful view alone. The second floor bar / dining room offers the towns best spot to take in the harbor and surrounding bay. The bar serves virtually any drink you can imagine, and the bar tender is extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed some of the local brews - all spot on. One speciality, Fresh Oysters, are sweet, briny and delectable. The 'Queen' also serves up a truly great Pizza. While we did not get to meet the Queen herself, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to her food palace. read more

Pizza in Sitka? Why not? It's located upstairs in the building and has great views. We ordered the princess pizza, regular crust. It had pesto, mozzarella, feta, chicken, artichokes, olives and fresh basil. It was amazingly delicious! It took some time for our pizza to come out but granted, we were there at a very busy time of day and year. We all enjoyed the beautiful view from our table as we sipped on a glass of wine while we waited for our food. I had heard their salads are amazing too! Went here this morning for breakfast before departing Sitka for home. We had the eggs Benedict with salmon. This dish was excellent and the eggs cooked perfectly. Finished with a good Bloody Mary. Had a good menu variety and service was good. Definitely recommend it. read more

Cool place, good atmosphere, great views. Mean Queen is a great place to spend an evening with your mates, All of that being said, the fundamentals are lacking a bit with the Queen. The servers are very nice but not particularly good, easily confused and constantly getting orders wrong, nothing crazy but expect some frustration. The food is, well it's bar food. Don't expect anything to blow your socks off. I will say however the Queens Crown pizza pocket dish is incredible. Little perfect balls of Pizza, so if that's your thing, do it! In all, I can't bring myself to give her a 3 star review, but know what you're about when you go. If you want a few drinks, a beautiful view, and a relaxed atmosphere. It's the place! If you want better food with your drink, I'd have to say the Bayview down the street may be a better look. read more

Unfortunately, I must amend my previous review. If you're looking for a place to party on the weekend, it still stands. If you're looking to get food in Sitka, you should probably look elsewhere. The menu primarily centers around pizza. The prices are VERY high, for pizzas that feed one. And the quality is...not very high. I ordered the Jester, and it took forever to come out. The server gets huge credit for confessing that the kitchen messed up my pizza and was going to have to re-cook it. She even gave me a 20% discount for it. 5-stars for the server, she is the only reason this review isn't much, much lower. Once it came out...it was just OK. It was more like an average, chain delivery pizza than something you'd get from a local restaurant for over $20 for a small. The dough/bread/crust part of the pizza was very hard, and had little flavor. The toppings and cheese were just OK. Tap selection wasn't that great. I wish they had some Sitka beer on tap. read more

We had a delicious meal and a great experience here! We tried the fried pickles, a Cobb salad (split the large between 3 of us), and ordered a half and half pizza that was phenomenal! We had the fry bread which was delicious too! We were so excited to return for breakfast on Saturday too! OMG! So good! Highly recommend stopping by if you're in town! You won't regret it! We were in town Wednesday for a quick visit and found this place on yelp. Cynthia, our server, was fantastic. She was taking care of half of the restaurant and we never had to wait on her or look for her. We got the cheese curds and pickles as apps -- cheese curd coating was kind of spicy for a child-- but we loved both. My husband got some shrimp and wings and said the shrimp was one of the freshest and favorite things he had during our cruise. I shared a pizza with my son and he absolutely loved it! Met up for a late night (11:30pm) snack as a rare option in Sitka. Kitchen closes at midnight or sooner if no business, I'd imagine. Ordered the fried green beans, fried ravioli, pretzel w/jalp cheese, half wedge blue cheese salad, and a few oysters. All hit the mark for snacks, and the half wedge was huge, crisp, with plenty of real & crispy bacon chunks and house made dressing. Huge fan. Miffed they charged me an extra $2 for a "tall" whiskey & soda - literally never had that happen. Extra soda is always free. That's where that last star went. Hopefully just a fluke. The servers were nice but we never actually got our food. Waited over an hour from the time we were sat and finally had to call it quits before we had to run back to our bus to make it back to our cruise in time.
