1 Star - Absolutely Awful Experience…read more Island Water Sports gave us one of the worst customer service experiences we've ever had. As we were pulling into the dock -- after being stuck in torrential downpours all day because they refused to offer a rain check unless there was thunder -- a staff member started shouting at us, "I hope you have insurance! You've damaged my ladder!" The swim ladder had accidentally been left down, but it was already damaged when we took the boat out. Even after staff inside the office confirmed the damage had been noted earlier, the dockhand, Mike, continued to accuse us and treated us like we had done something wrong. They made us stay in the boat while they took pictures and called it in to the office, repeatedly telling us we were going to have to pay for it. When we were finally allowed off, some of our group went to use the bathroom and were stopped on their way back by another employee, who told them they "weren't allowed to leave." It felt like we were being detained -- over a broken ladder we didn't even damage. At one point I told Mike how rude and unprofessional he was -- and no, I wasn't calm about it. I had every right to speak up after the way we were being treated. Instead of diffusing the situation, he came back at me, even more defensive and condescending. It wasn't until after they embarrassed us and treated us like criminals in front of other guests that we finally got a weak apology. Then, as if that wasn't enough, they actually complained that there was mud on the floorboard from the anchor -- because it had touched the wet deck. First of all, don't they wash the boats down anyway? And second, it was pouring rain all day -- what exactly did they expect? We didn't even complain about the miserable weather -- we paid in full and left without so much as a "Sorry the weather didn't cooperate" or "Hope you still had a good time." Just attitude and accusations. We've rented from other marinas in the area and always had a great experience. Island Water Sports was by far the worst -- rude, accusatory, and completely lacking in basic customer service. I would never rent from them again and absolutely do not recommend them to anyone!

Staff was friendly and courteous when we arrived, and the boat was in tip-top shape. The one-star knock is because they did not have a restroom available for us before our trip, which meant we had to leave the premises for a Royal Farms, then return. Granted we didn't lose a lot of time, but a restroom for clients, even if it's a porta potty, I feel is a necessity.

Tried out sharks cove after renting from a close contender. Short two hour rental of a pontoon boat…read moreto take the family out. We had an early rental (845) so we were one of the first families out. The boat we were assigned was one of the most worn looking boats I've ever seen. The seats were sun worn and cracked. Radio didn't work, instruments didn't work, but the motor worked fine. The driving area is smaller than competitors (sharks cove doesn't allow past route 90 bridge). A charge for gas upon return. In and out process was easy, had to take a picture with my phone of the prop, brief rundown of the boat, rules, and how to drive and off we went. From my experience, if you're looking for a low cost option, don't really care about the "condition" of the boat seats, or the foldable tarp, sharks cove is the more affordable option, however if you're looking for "like new" boats or " this year's model" you might be better off skipping and looking elsewhere. Overslly not a bad experience, but not one to promote as exceptional either.

As one can see from my many Yelp reviews, it takes a lot for me to leave a negative one but Shark's…read moreCove Watersports honestly deserves it and I do this as a warning to others in the Yelp community. We had a poor experience when renting a pontoon boat for our stay in the area this week. We had reserved it 5 days prior with a tube via the phone as that is the only way to reserve a pontoon "with a tube" per their website instructions. Upon our prompt check in , we were told then (no call ahead at all) they did not have a tube for us. When I asked why, I was rudely told by the woman behind the desk "we never guarantee tubes as things happen like they pop so we can't promise it". I told her no one told me that at the time of booking when I was charged for it (mind you) and my children and their friends were looking forward to it. She gave me a snide laugh and turned away from me... no apology no nothing. She said "you can drive the boat back in 90 minutes and get one that's the best we can do." I asked to be comp'd something and she said "no it's a flat fee you will still be charged!!!" Honestly, an apology and perhaps a small compensation back for the tube rental was all I was looking for.... But to get a laugh in my face and to turn away from me, completely unacceptable. I was never rude to her and yet she was to me.... Beyond ridiculous and such absolute poor customer service we were all SHOCKED! I guess they get enough business they don't care about their customers' satisfaction. In the past, we had used them for the last 3 years for waver runners and all was fine. I can say based on this experience we will NOT be returning customers. There is a place literally across the street from them that does the same kind of rentals. Beware fellow vacationers..... not a good place to rent a boat from. They take your reservation and your $$ but don't hold onto their side of the bargain. While they may get a ton of business and not care about their clients' satisfaction, there are SO many other places to rent from so they better change their attitude or at least get better front desk staff! The rest of the staff was not rude like the front desk lady but she did enough damage that it ruined the rest of our time and feelings about this business establishment. Very Disappointed Yelper.....

We were fortunate and it was just our family for the time slot that we had reserved. We had…read morereserved three jet skis (two single riders and one double). In addition to the standard waivers you have to read and sign, there is another safety sheet you have to read and sign down on the dock. Once it's time to go, they load you up on. jet ski and then go over all the safety rules, how to operate the jet ski, etc. They really emphasize the safety aspects and you don't want to crash one of these things, as they are very expensive to repair. Once you go through all of this, they help push your jet ski off the floating platform, you hit the start button, and you slowly make your way out to the bay in a single file line following the instructor. Once out there, there are buoys that mark the area (basically a large rectangle) that you can ride in. Everyone has to ride in a single direction (counter clockwise for us). Because it was just the three of us, they did say we can go into the middle of the rectangle and do what we wanted. These things can go up to 54mph, but I only got it up to 39mph before I felt like I was going to lose control of it. One or more instructors stay out there with you the entire time, ensuring you are being safe and helping out if needed. After about 45 minutes out there, you head back to the dock, again, in a single file line. The hardest part is parking your jet ski back onto the platform but someone is on the dock to assist, but we saw people in the previous group take 2-3 tries to finally park it. All in all we had a great time and our instructor was very friendly and helpful. It's to recommended to wear hats and if you have glasses, they recommend having a strap on them. You can leave your car keys at the front desk. There is a tip jar down on the dock, or you can leave a tip at the front desk as well. Would definitely do this again the next time we are down at the shore!
