If I could get negative stars, I would. There is no reason that my jet ski should have to (now) be serviced for the third time in under two months for the same issue. That they liked to describe as a loose wire. If it was that simple of a fix it wouldn't take them three weeks to "fix it." Charge out the ass and then return it to me saying it's fixed only for me to get 10 feet off of the dock before it dies AGAIN. Mind you I have 2 skis and my other ski thankfully never has to be serviced by them (winterized at another location and maintenance) so I'm only losing money on one for repair. When I went to OC Maryland boat show they took a deposit from me on a jet ski that was 1 of 2 back at their showroom, Tuesday comes I get a call from the absolutely rudest women telling me that the price is 800$ more , l talk to the sales manager only to discover the ski might be "in" by May .. This place is awful. I have never dealt with customer service so bad. Their goal is to take advantage of the lesser informed customer and charge you as much as possible at over-inflated prices. This place is a scam! They don't return calls, they won't give advice, they don't care about your feedback and worst of all, they will charge you for extensive repairs without any discussion of the charges or authorization. If this was the last boat place on earth, I'd rather my boat sink. I would never go here again. I've had multiple bad experiences at this point, so this is no one off. If I could give it a zero I would. We have bought a boat and 2 wave runners from them and have used them for service and storage for the past 5 years. This is the last year. Every year it's a different problem. This year they told us in the fall we needed a new thermostat we told them to put it in, I called to get the boat and they couldn't schedule it for a month out. I called 4 days ahead to confirm and they confirmed I was getting the boat today. They never called me with a time I called this morning snd they said they haven't put the thermostat in yet and I can't get the boat. They had it for 7 months!!!!! I purchased my pontoon from Shorts 4 years ago. Since then I've stored my boat there the past 3 years for winterization. I call them in March to get my boat ready for the season and they give me some run around year after year on why they cant get it in by Memorial Day weekend. Not only is there customer service TERRIBLE but they rip you off on labor and services. They can never provide an estimate on any services and never give you an estimation on when they can get it in the water or ready for pick up. If your reading this review, do everything you can to take your business else where. They are crooked beyond believe and I'm amazed they are still in business. read more

Worse service ever. Two years ago, they forgot to paint the bottom of my boat. This year I went to pick up boat. They called me and said it would be done and serviced by the may 10th. Went to get it on the 15th. Nothing was done as far as I requested. Nothing!! Still in storage in a remote site. I just had Shorts re-power my Parker boat with a new 250 hp Yamaha and I will say that they finished the job within a couple days without any price changes. This team was great and I would highly recommend them to everybody. They are terrific. read more

I will give them high marks for their boat storage and the store is great. But after two tries with their service department, I would advise to go somewhere else if you need something fixed. I took my outboard to them because it was hard to start and then wouldn't run right. They supposedly cleaned the carb and charged me a couple hundred. But the engine was still just as hard to start and then wouldn't run right. Shorts tried to make it look like I don't know how to operate an outboard. (I've been using them for 40 years). They wanted to charge me more if I brought it back in even though it was less than 30 days from the "repair". One of my neighbors took a look at it, cleaned the carb, and now it works fine. I also took my boat trailer in to have the tail and running lights fixed. They charged me $130 but the lights still didn't work. They tried to blame it on my car, which is brand new. The car dealer confirmed there's nothing wrong with the trailer light wiring and fuses on my car. Shorts stopped returning my calls at this point. If you are unhappy with their service you still have to pay them or you won't get your motor/trailer/boat back. They just really don't care and will blame it on the customer and try to charge more while they bumble through it. Now I'm out over 300 bucks and didn't get anything for it. So if you pay them to "fix" something, you will still have to go somewhere else to have it actually fixed. Might as well save yourself the trouble and expense, and skip them altogether. They won't fix it or refund my money, so a YELP review is the only thing I have left. read more

Terrible. I brought my Waverunner in to be serviced (Supercharger rebuild) and it had more issues when I left than when I brought it in. The rebuild was $1100, now I have to get error codes corrected that popped up after the rebuild. Then I have to pay winterization costs. Ok, so I've left two reviews on how bad the service department was in handling a 9 month old service call, yes, that's correct it took 9 months to get a simple hinge changed. So they billed me for labor, which I thought was bold on the account it took for ever, now they are charging me late fees. It was a mandatory 14 day quarantine coming from NJ. So I explained that to them and they said , no it doesn't pertain to you. Well, I didn't listen and I came down quarantined like I was told, check out the boat and mail my check. They charged me late fees for April and May, and July 9th I got the bill. Do not trust them. read more

Do not bring your boat or motor to this place, the mechanics there are subpar at best and the customer service is absolutely awful. They charged me over $350 to repair a 5 hp motor water pump. When I got it back it did not run, and was worse off than when I brought it in. When asked to talk to the mechanic to see what could possibly be done to repair this the front desk would not allow us to speak, and actually asked him to leave the room. I would rather have my tongue removed then shop at Shorts Marine. We have had never ending problems with our boat since we bought it at this place. It was a brand new boat. First time out the helm broke and had to be replaced. The second time out the grounding wire fell off the engine and it took them 5 months to repair a ground wire. Stay far far away. read more

This is a cautionary tale. I have finally made up my mind to do my own boat service and winterizing after Short's charged me almost $600. Now, I realize that businesses are in the business of making money, and typically charge what the market will bare, but I think there is a distinct difference between a fair profit and simply gouging. Do your homework as I did. I thought the service and winterizing was some big mystery, but it is so simple it's laughable. I got charged $600 for about $50 in parts and the rest in labor, storage and pulling the boat. What a sham! I purchased a service manual and did everything myself in an afternoon. I encourage you to do the same thing or at least try first,. no harm in that. If you can't figure something out, then take it to a dealer such as this. Otherwise, the Internet and service manual is filled with a wealth of information. Due to the economy my wife and I haven't received any raises for the past four years. Guess what? I just earned $550 in an afternoon from doing my own service! Thank you Short's for finally convincing me to do my own work through your price gouging! I should have known you were gouging when I came in to your service department and asked about purchasing iridium spark plugs and you would me they were $120 each and I needed four!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought maybe they were made from some rare earth metal! Turns out I bought them online for $18 each! You should be ASHAMED!!!!! read more

With a smile he came outside looked at my truck and accommodate my request even though I was not even a customer. He refused to take any money. I don't know where to start, so I will start with the obvious, STAY AWAY. I have never had so many bad experiences with the same business (shame on me for giving them multiple chances). The service department is a complete joke. On several occasions i have brought my wave runners in for service, approved all the work they recommended only to get them back with the same problem that they went in for. Not to mention the last two times they were there for service when I went to pick them up it took over 45 minutes BOTH times to find them. I bought a 17 foot boat used from shorts marine and it gave me problems, so I told them my boat was not performing and not running. They told me mr shorts doesn't sell non working boats they said bring in to be evaluated, they called me a week later and said boat was ready . Not only did they fix my boat but I was not charged , boat runs like a champ now thanks to all the great people at shorts marine. Happy customer! read more

This is our third year taking our boat to shorts for winter storage, shrink wrap abs spring start. First of all the price went up $250 without letting us know ahead of time. I know everything goes up and I still would have paid it but it was just a shock. Then when we got our pontoon boat it was filthy. Like they took the wrap off 2 -3 months ago and let it sit under a tree. There was about an inch of polon covering everything. Including our boat cover which was just thrown in a seat in a ball and then it got rained on and sat there for arhat had to be a good amount of time because there is mildew all over it. Lastly whatever adhesive or they had the torch for the winter shrink wrap too close but a lot of our seats have a black substance on them and isn't coming off with regular washing. I sure hope it comes off with the seat cleaner. Our boat was purchased at shorts 3 years ago and we always keep it covered, clean and in prestige condition and I am beyond upset with how we got it back. We will not be returning. read more

I bought a 2020 Bayliner last year from Shorts. The sales experience was frustrating and the customer service was terrible. It took several weeks longer to receive the boat than we were told. Everything you called your were told a different story. I took the boat in the fall for service. It took them 3 months or so to complete. A tree recently fell on the boat. The shop we took the boat to for repair ordered the parts from Shorts since they were the closest Bayliner dealer. Needless to say, never again! It has been 6 weeks and everything we call it is a different story. All my experiences with them have been unsatisfactory. I will never ever do any business with them in the future. It's a money grab. Service prices are outrageous, service takes way too long. They will promise to winterize your boat but often times don't do it until late winter then try and charge you for spring start up. Good luck getting an answer from someone or speaking to management/ownership. They are nowhere to be found. Take your boat to another shop for faster and cheaper service. read more

My grandfather has been a long term customer and has had his boat here for years . He doesn't have a use for the boat anymore so my husband said we would go and get it and help him sell it . The week of April 8th he called down to let them know we would be coming o he's the boat out. They said they were backed up so it would take 10-14 days . So today (April 29) my husband , 1 year old son and I took the 3 hour drive to come pick the boat up . My grandfather had called and confirmed yesterday that we would be down to get the boat and that we would need it put on our trailer . He called again this morning and confirmed everything was good and he said we were good to go . When we got there everything seemed to go smoothly and they said someone would meet us across the street where the boat was. To start , the boat wasn't even there so we had to go back across the street and locate the boat on our own . Upon finding the boat we let them know we had found it and they said how do you intend to get the boat on your trailer . My husband relayed to them that they let had spoken to someone about the situation . He said we don't have anyone here that can help you on Sundays . Then all I hear is this large woman (I believe her name was Tammy) she kept rudely repeating herself saying I was sitting here the entire time and that was never said . I have been in customer service for a long time and there is no reason to be talking about a customer right in front and them and being rude . They tried to tell us that we needed to leave our trailer here and come back in a few days and get it ! I'm appalled at the way they treat their long term customers . Then they want to dispute my refund because the package was opened, although they already opened it and put the wrong part in the box. Ordered two items from Amazon. Was NOT shipped one item, was also shipped an incorrect item (gallon of 2-stroke oil instead of 4-stroke). They flat out refused to believe me until I emailed them a photograph of the wrong oil, but never once tried to rectify the missing gasket. FedEx refused to ship the oil back once the the seller agreed to return the item due to their claim of flammable/hazardous material designation. Seller refused to fix the problem. Bad attitude. HUGE waste of my time. After filing a formal complaint, Amazon refunded my item cost and the outrageous $19 shipping fee. Shorts has still yet to send the missing drain gasket and expect me to fight with FedEx in order to rectify their mistake on the oil. Buyer beware. read more

Although we are novice boaters they made the buying process very easy and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Short's Marine to other boaters. Worse experience than dealing with the infamous "used car dealer". So, as a retired couple, my wife and I are in the market for a boat. Small and manageable for the small lake we live on. The sales person shows us a boat on their lot that we think is perfect for our needs. We go back to the office and the sales person informs us that that particular boat is a pending sale and not available. He then proceeds to tell us that they have a simlar boat at their Pot Nets property but the exterior hull of the boat has a painted on Orange stripe. The boat we wanted was dark blue with gray and white interior. We decide that we will buy this boat if he can assure us that the interior is gray and white. He makes that assurance and we proceed to meet with the business manager to go over financing and give a deposit. The business manager tells us that the deposit is non-refundable unless we can not within a few days finalize the deal. The next day the sales person calls and informs us that the interior is also Orange striping and texts us pictures. We call the sales person to let him know that his is not the boat we want and cancel the deal with him. As you have quessed the company now refuses to return our deposit. Multiple emails and calls trying to recoup the deposit have gone unanswered. Time for the Better Business Bureau and maybe smalls claims court. read more

Today on 8/16/2016 I picked up my jet skis for the 2nd time it left me on the water stranded. It only had 8.3 hours on it the first time I took it there a few weeks ago and they couldn't find anything wrong with it either time but they have no problem charging me for nothing. When I picked them up I drove them down the road to WMF Watercraft & Marine in Millsboro, De where I informed them of my horrible experience with Shorts Marine and Chris immediately helped me testing everything and determined that the problem is the key fob. He said he could have it done in a few hours. They were so helpful & knowledgeable that I'll get my jet skis & boat serviced here for now on. Short's marine wanted to keep my bikes for more testing & sucking more money out of me for nothing. WMF is approximately two miles down the road headed towards Millsboro so don't waist your time or hard earned money with Shorts Marine... read more

I brought my two Yamaha waverunners in to Short's for repairs. One needed minor hull work which I was told they could fix when I dropped them off. The other wouldn't start after my last use. They told me it would be around a week before they could look at them. After two weeks and no phone call I checked in with them and they hadn't even looked at them yet. After another week I called again only to find out they couldn't do the hull work but claimed to have fixed the other that wouldn't start. They never called to discuss the diagnostics or to get my approval for repairs. Turns out the one machine somehow was disable by my fob. They never called to ask about the fobs but instead charged me $400 to find out there was nothing wrong with it. When I questioned the "Customer Service Manager" Terry Parks and expressed my disappointment regarding the service, he terminated our relationship! He said we wouldn't want to do business with a customer that wasn't satisfied. I didn't act inappropriately or make a scene I simply questioned the lack of communication and common courtesy to inform your customer! I paid the $400 and took my waverunners, which is basically all they wanted! Terry Parks thank you! You did me a favor! I wouldn't want to do business with a company like Shorts! I am sure you don't need the business but if you continue to chase customers away I am sure it will catch up to you. Good luck! read more

This is my second review with an update. Four months ago my wife and I met with Steve Sterns to voice our concerns. He took copious notes and said that none of our requests were out of line )should have been taken care of last year) and that he was to meet with Mr. Short for a decision. As of today, dear Steve is MIA. Other workers there at the service department supposedly took my message but no response. This new boat purchase was the worse in my 30+ years of boating. From the day after taking care of the financials we became collateral damage with a bait-and-switch on a mass scale. Since June 2017, we only had this boat on the water for 1 1/2 hours. The rest of the time has been I repair for moreover, waiting for repair and other decisions to be made. At a later time I will post a bullet list of the events and misses that led to this issue. No wonder they need to advertise about being in the top 100 - TEN YEARS AGO! read more

Terrible service. I brought my new boat in with cover on it, they serviced the boat, never called me, and let it sit out on the lot uncovered for a week. They did some customization's that I never requested and charged me $700. The manager got in an argument with me, told me that I had asked for these customization's. When I produced the work order which I had a copy of, he tried to back pedal out of his accusations that I had requested the extra work...... Then mechanic connected my battery wrong and blew out my entire software system on the boat. After all was said and done, they said, leave the boat here for another week and we'll give you a $200 credit. That's nice, now I have a boat covered in pollen, filthy, and they didn't even offer to clean it after they let it sit out for a week uncovered in the rain. Terrible Terrible.
