It's rare to find caiun/creole food anywhere other than Louisiana, let alone Gardnerville, NV. Came here for lunch and I may have been their 1st customer of the day. I arrived around 1115a. Po' boys happen to be my favorite Cajun item, but wasn't in the mood to get messy and get filled up on bread, so I opted to fill up on fries instead and got the shrimp basket and lemon beignets for dessert. Had great convo with the owner while I waited for my food. They've only been open less than a year. Food came out piping hot fresh from the fryer. The shrimp is coated in what tasted like a beer batter and then dusted with Cajun seasoning. Fries were also seasoned the same way. It's a good item, but nothing too special. It is served with a side of remoulade for dipping. What I actually really enjoyed was the little cole slaw they served with it. It had a subtle spiciness that made me break the tiniest sweat. The lemon beignets were like, deep fried croissant dough. They were soft, yeasty, and flaky on the outside with a chewy interior and topped with a lemon glaze and powdered sugar. I wished it had a more lemony punch to it. The lemon in the glaze doesn't really come through enough. It was a pretty pricey lunch at $30 for just 1 person. The 2 items and a small fountain drink. However, I am curious to come back a 2nd time or more to try their other items. They also serve brunch on the weekends with a full bar. read more

After a hard morning of pickleball, we decided to check out Bayou Bites for lunch. We ordered the shrimp po' boy, Cajun poutine, and mac & cheese. The po' boy was absolutely delicious--so good that I came back a few days later just to get another one. Super excited to have this place in Gardnerville! We came in this evening and ordered a bunch of stuff to go. Shrimp and crawfish roll, small greens, small Mac and cheese, poutine, bread pudding and shrimp basket. After we ordered we waited about 40 minutes for our order. The cashier asked us a few times what we were waiting for.... Not sure what was going on. The restaurant was empty but they had a steady pace of people coming in for to go orders As for the rating on the food: -Collard greens- 5 stars- the best! -Macaroni and cheese- 4 stars because it Was so cold it couldn't have been warm when we left with it. -Shrimp and Cajun roll- 5 stars perfect amount of seafood, sauce and roll was fresh -Poutine- 5 stars great value for amount. I was so excited to try this place. Unfortunately it wasn't what I was expecting. You order at the window and they deliver your food at the table in to-go containers. We asked for plates and they gave us some paper plate. I was recommended the catfish basket. It was too fried for my stomach. The 2 Po Boys we got were good based on those eating it. The gumbo was pretty good. The fried green tomatoes had mix reviews as some like it but the batter for me was too much and not like I've had at other places. A friend got the salad and she said it was just okay. Based on some liking what they got and some not, 3 stars was it. I will give them another shot and if I feel different will definitely update my review. I still wish them well and do know a lot of people love ordering from them. read more

So here's a good plan, have a huge lunch and then discover there's a new restaurant a mile from your house. That's what happened to me this afternoon and knowing my love of southern food I needed to immediately investigate. It's not a bad thing, I had a full stomach and so on this visit, I was unable to taste anything. This evaluation is based on how friendly the folks were, and, yes, my wife explained our situation and we were thanked for stopping in and given a to go menu. I will be back and I look forward to providing a more comprehensive evaluation. For now, five stars based on friendliness, the way the place smelled, and the fact that there were two people waiting for their food to go. Mind you they've been open for three days. What a find!! I was looking for a place to go with Cajun food for Mardi Gras. It ended up that I didn't have plans for Mardi Gras but I made it to this restaurant a few days ago. And let me tell you I will definitely be back. My friend had the gumbo which, of course I had to taste also. Loved it. I had the shrimp and crawdad sandwich. Loved it. We were stuffed, but decided to have the bread pudding for dessert. Loved it. The hostess whose name I did not get but has these very very long beautiful fingernails was perfect for the environment. I was very excited to try this place and still am glad i came. I give grace knowing it's their first week open. Prepare for long wait times. My shrimp and crawfish roll took over 30 minute's. We went for dinner on a Saturday evening and it was pretty quiet. You go up to the counter to place your order and they bring your food to you. We ordered the Cajun poutine, Shrimp basket and a shrimp po' boy. The Po'boy was great. I would definitely go back for that. The shrimp basket was overly seasoned, so it felt like you were taking a bite of seasoning instead of the shrimp. The Cajun poutine was just okay and did not have cheese curds like a normal poutine. I can't recommend it based on the other two dishes, but if you are going for lunch, have the Po'boys. They were very good. read more

Tried Bayou Bites in Gardnerville, and here's my honest review from a down-south, bayou-bred woman. First, let me say this clearly. The flavor is there. The food is good. You can taste the Southern Cajun influence, and everything else we had was wonderful. My only real issue is with the shrimp and catfish po'boys. A po'boy is supposed to be filled right. It should not be mostly bread with just a small amount of shrimp or catfish. Where I come from, a po'boy is dressed, packed, and made to satisfy. That is part of what makes it a po'boy. So this is not a knock on the restaurant as a whole, because the food and flavor are absolutely there. I'm just saying the shrimp and catfish po'boys need to be more full and better match what a real po'boy is supposed to be. Fix that one thing, and Bayou Bites will be even stronger, because everything else was wonderful. read more

Being from Louisiana myself, growing up with the real deal, I'm usually reluctant to try Louisiana food outside of Louisiana. But I decided to take my chances. The menu looked good, but gumbo is more like a soup and not a stew. It was served in a small paper to go container with mostly rice and no soup. It almost tasted right but was not quite right. Definitely overpriced for the portion size. The catfish poboy - more bread than catfish. I was left with half the roll and no more fish. The fish was overcooked. The beignets were over cooked. They did have the right amount of powdered sugar but the inside was all wrong. They could have skipped the lemon stuff. Perhaps they use the lemon sauce to hide that this is NOT a real beignet. It was more like a croissant inside than a beignet. I was pretty disappointed. Don't eat Louisiana food outside of Louisiana. And be clear - this is a fast food joint, order at the counter and your food comes in to go containers even if you are eating in. I love to see Louisiana food outside of Louisiana if it is good and represents well and I apologize if these are your family's recipes, but it has to be a no go for me. Finally got around to trying out Bayou Bites Gardnerville NV tonight. We ordered and picked up. From the phone call to the annihilation of the food, we had a great experience! I was a little hesitant to try it, because my husband can't handle anything too spicy, but we decided to try it. The seasoning was absolutely PERFECT. Big flavor, not overly spicy. A really great balance. We had the shrimp basket and a chicken basket and shared them. Even the dipping sauce was just right. I love the coleslaw too.
