My first time here, thinking about helping out a local business. As I was walking into the office, I was greeted by a receptionist who asked me to fill out the first-time patient application, and everything went smoothly until I was asked to go into the room to be seated and start an eye exam with the old lady doctor. Here is one sentence for her: she needs to retire. Prepare to be treated like you're not unwanted there. Rude with her opinion and the smell of cigarettes on her breath. Felt like I was dealing with a 10-year-old. Sucking her teeth and rolling her eyes at a patient who asks questions is unprofessional and unethical. She is asking to be called out. That's why public reviews are published so the next person doesn't get treated the same way. Won't be going there ever again--terrible experience. Almost felt like she was racist!! Maybe because I am a minority. read more

i said before that they took several times to get my glasses right and they gave me a cheap case instead of the nice case i had and i was angry and said they were a bad business but i believe in second chances so I'm going to go back there and give them a chance i believe everyone deserves that. read more

They triple book their appointments and only have one optometrist so be prepared to wait. Definitely do not recommend.

I got onto their website and set up an appointment today. I was ready to leave and got a text telling me that they did not book my appointment because I didn't upload a picture of my insurance card. My wife and daughter both purchased glasses here using the insurance card. A text? Really? So I called and got a man on the phone. He wasn't helpful or friendly. No apologies. Needless to say I will spend my money elsewhere. read more

Terrible service. Claims to be a Tricare provider but kept trying to look up my policy in all these random other insurances and kept saying they would have to verify my Active Duty status and make calls to ensure I was authorized to use Tricare. I gave them my DoD and SSN...I told them I'll have my ID card and dependent ID at the appointment. They kept adding if you don't then it will be 'outta pocket'. Lady said that like 5 times, not sure what she was insinuating. I just wanted to make an appointment for my 6 year old daughter. I felt like they had no idea what they were doing so I can't imagine how the rest of their office works if they can't even verify insurance and schedule an appointment. read more

I needed some frames adjusted and called the manufacturer to ask what they recommend, I was told to go to a local glasses shop, and they should be able to do it without a problem. I Went in to this place and asked to have the frames adjusted, but because they weren't bought directly from here, they wouldn't touch it. read more

Bought 2 pair of prescription glasses on a single visit here. Went in to get my eyeglasses adjusted, along with a pair of store bought sunglasses, because the frames are loose from normal wear & tear. With no customers in the store, the (lack of) office help said they only work on glasses purchased here. Seriously? I spent over $350 for 2 pair of reading glasses & this the focus of your contention? This office trivializes over spending less than a minute to merely tighten the hinge screws? Do the employees get paid for the number of turns with a screwdriver? or are they just burdened with 'work'? This reception definitely gives an unwelcoming, exclusive-only, painstaking vibe. Don't bother with this place. Great examples of burdened office help. Poor example of a business. read more

Very rude front desk staff!!! I was 6 mins late for an appointment due to thunderstorms and traffic and was treated extremely rudely and was hostilely told by Karissa who didn't even look at me, "NOPE she has to reschedule" When another woman stepped in to ask if she could find out from the doctor if it was ok to keep the appointment due to the absurdity of her acting the way she was, Karissa abruptly said "no don't ask the doctor". I've worked in the medical field and have never treated a client or patient as rudely as that especially for such a minor issue. I would have understood had the time been more significant or even if I was spoken to with dignity and respect. One toxic receptionist has ruined a years long client for myself and the rest of my family. read more

I was unable to have a sitter for my son who's 10 months old, and they had no problem with me bringing him in with me for my eye exam! (Very thankful bc covid restrictions are unreal). They were very attentive and friendly, and I didn't have to wait forever to be seen! The Dr. I saw was very calm and made me feel very relaxed and comfortable and was very accommodating when my son woke up crying. The rest of the staff was so helpful with helping me pick out my first glasses!! I had to have tried on about 30 pairs and finally found a really unique pair that were winners!! Only complaint is it did take a while for the glasses to come in and for them to call and say they were in (a little over two weeks) but worth the wait! Would definitely go there again! read more

I was informed by Cheryl, the office manager that I would be charged for a digital imaging photo. So I made an effort with my insurance company to get the $28 fee approved prior to coming. Approved for payment was faxed over. But No, the rude office manager had to point out it probably won't be paid. Karisa, the sec. chimes in I have to pay my copay before I leave. I don't have a copay with Tufts. I felt office manager was a control freak and reading other reviews she has created issues with others. I am going elsewhere and filing a grievance with Tufts. The Eye Doctor very professional and was great, too bad the office manager is so outspoken. Then , I was told I cannot put new lenses in old frames because my insurance pays for a package. Told pkg means lenses and frames. So I called Eyemed, she told me that gentleman was totally wrong! I am done with Bay State Eye. read more

Sadly I have to downgrade this company from my previous review. I went in on a Saturday when in the past it was busy and was the only customer. Why? The experienced office manager was gone, replaced by a woman who did not want to help me, and who probably is the person who did not tell me about the skyrocketing prices for contact lens fittings when I booked my appointment. In the past out of pocket costs were always explained to me in advance. I am not a new contact wearer, and have a stable prescription with no need for a return visit to see how the lenses wear. The price for 30 seconds to write out a script has gone from $45 to $50 to $65 to now $85, and they are trying to upsell the eye exam photos for $25 if you get a digital version. I complained and was told many people abuse their contacts and so there is a charge to make sure the eye is healthy. What nonsense! So if someone only wears glasses you don't examine their eyes to make sure they are healthy? Rather than abusing my contacts I do the opposite, taking them out and cleaning them every night although they are rated for 24 hour a day use for 30 days. I walked out without an exam, and you should never walk in. read more

After years of going to Bay State, I'm done. The former "office" manager was so pleasant and professional. Not sure who this kid is running the place but rude, condescending, actually started yelling at me in front of a room full of people. They do not explain their policies up front and they are beyond horrible to deal with. . My suggestion: find another eye doctor. They're a dime a dozen. When the doctors at this place start loosing money they'll either look into why and find out what this tootsie is up to out in their front area or just go broke. Stay away. Everyone was great to me with the exam, finding glasses that I like and fits my face; also, my glasses were ready in less than a week! Angela, front desk is super helpful and friendly. My eye doctor explained all of my questions and was very thorough! The lady helping me pick out frames made things easier because she listened to what I was hoping to find for frames, she picked out a pair which I think is great and I like my glasses a lot. My family has been customers of Bay State for a decade. We have had a few issues in the past, but nothing the store didn't resolve respectfully. The lack of customer service we experienced this week was horrible. We had an issue so I called to work it out and the general manager refused to acknowledge that maybe her staff made a mistake. She didn't apologize and she wouldn't even try to make the situation better. I've never experienced such terrible customer service skills from a manager. Unfortunately we will be taking our business elsewhere from now on and I urge those who are thinking about making an appointment to go elsewhere. read more

11:30 Friday 12/14/18. Walked in with my script to by glasses. I was abruptly turned away by the receptionist. "We're very short handed and are not taking walk-ins." I asked if I could schedule an appointment. "No." I was told to try back next week! Can I schedule an appointment? "No. We're not doing that now." She then asked me what type of insurance I had. What did that have to do with me buying glasses? It also didn't matter when I told her that I had purchased my last two glasses from them, including the pair I was wearing. I have been a patient for three years receiving my yearly eye exams and purchasing eye glasses and sunglasses. The good: My glasses came out perfect each time the first time (which was different than me previous optometrist) This year after getting my exam I had to hold off on purchasing the new eyewear as I had other medical expenses. I returned yesterday only to be told they " don't take that insurance" Huh. You took it in April. To which the optometrist sitting nearby piped up " yeah we won't be taking Davis again till maybe February they ridiculous and put his head down. Since They offered no solution or suggestion or even a desire to keep me as a patient . Why would they not notify existing patients or change their website?? so I just took my prescription from them and went across the street to LensCrafters.Even tho they also do not accept Davis I was welcomed and offered many solutions/ discount offers and was treated very well. read more

Loved it at the beginning clean and friendly, but they never told me I had Cataracts and they ordered my new glasses anyway. Less than one month everything was blurry and I needed Cataract surgery. They will NOT do anything for me even though the prescription they wrote and never considered the Cataracts is not needed after surgery less than 2 months from picking up my new glasses. I brought my new prescription to the optical department today and told them I didn't have any vision insurance so I needed to keep the cost as low as possible. They have a nice selection of frames and the young woman who helped me was very pleasant, she took her time helping me and worked to get me the best price possible. After we added up the cost of the lenses and frames, I found out they could take 40% off the total, which really made my visit a happy one! Very happy with the service and will go back to them for my next eye exam! read more

The front staff office went above and beyond to help me with everything from correcting an insurance/scheduling snafu to picking out lenses and helping me to make the most of my insurance benefits. I have had the worst experience ever with getting glasses they could not get my prescription right after 2 exams and then going to a specialist now I come to get the glasses and they don't have my frames I initially started this process in November 19th it is now February and still no glasses in the future I will not be using bay state eye care read more

Went for a routine eye appointment. Eye exam was quick, in and out. I needed glasses, so I had to take the time to pick out a pair of frames. One of the secretaries showed me where the glasses were, including pointing out the price ranges (the cheapest glasses are in drawers, obviously), then left me to look on my own. I prefer being able to look at things without having someone hover and point out other options, so this worked perfectly for me. I picked out frames, they took my measurements, and I was on my way. My glasses were ready in a week, and I was in and out when I picked them up as well. Definitely a hands-off approach when I was there (maybe because they seemed on the busy side?), but like I said, that's my preference! read more

Terrible customer service. Went in for my annual exam, came out to a large bill. Did not request or agree to a contact lense eval (which I understand is not a covered benefit through insurance) & was charged $85 on top of my copay. When I checked in I stated I wanted to discuss Lasik which I plan to do in the next 1-2 months & never would have agreed to a contact eval knowing this to start. Tried calling to dispute this charge and was basically told too bad. The front desk needs to discuss and have patients sign a treatment plan for any procedure not covered 100% by insurance prior to seeing the doctor. Needless to say poor customer service & I won't be returning. read more

Do NOT choose bay state eye for your mass health glasses if you need a Prior Authorization. Forms were not filled out correctly, they are lazy about doing paperwork, and checking their work/spelling. Months and Months of waiting and fighting with these people to do their job!!! And if you need your glasses adjusted, I Do Not recommend going here. This place is a joke when it comes to Customer Service. You would be better off getting your eye exam at McDonalds or Burger King. Yes, I realize neither place examines eyes, hence the comparison. They want to make an easy fast buck and do not actually care about the customers needs. There are many more businesses that both deserve and appreciate your business. I had very bad luck with both "bargain" and expensive optometrists. I've found Bay State Eye to serve my rather challenging eye care needs extremely well. I purchased progressive lenses $250 and Revolution frame $200. 12 months later my lens had a stress crack and the finish on frame was delaminating. Joe said he would see if they would be covered under warranty. When I did not hear from him 2 weeks later I called back and Joe said that they were out of warranty but he could replace my frame for $130. I looked online and found the same model frame retailing for $120. I emailed Revolution Eyewear directly and they said they would absolutely replace the frames for free but they would have to send the frames to Bay State Eye Assoc. A few weeks later Bay State swapped the frame but now there was a second stress crack in the other lens. In my opinion, Joe never even tried to get anything covered under warranty- he just took a stab at making another profit. I also think they cracked the second lens and didn't even bother to apologize. They didn't make any attempt to take care of my problems so I will never go back. read more

I went for an eye exam and received a real dud prescription, very different from the one I currently had, that didn't work for my eyes at all. The contacts they gave me were blurry and gave me migraines because of this. I went back, and asked for a new prescription, and so they changed it, but apparently only for contact lenses, not glasses. I didn't know this until ordering glasses later on, and then called to complain that the original prescription, which clearly did not work for me was sent to the optics store where I bought glasses. It would make sense to me, that when I complained about the poor prescription the day after I they wrote it for me, that they would automatically change it for glasses as well contacts. However when I called, they took no ownership for their mistake, told me it was in fact my fault for not reminding them in the first place to change my prescription for glasses, that returning the glasses was between me and the store I bought them at, and if I wanted a new prescription I could come in and pay for it out of pocket. Rarely in my life have I been treated so rudely by a company that would not even admit their mistake, apologize, and try to help, instead they blamed me and asked for more money. I highly recommend trying somewhere else both more competent, and more focused on customer satisfaction. read more
