First visit here - left with mixed feelings. Reviews on other sites were mostly positive, and…read moreoverall it wasn't a bad experience. I have insurance, however contact fittings are not covered, yet price was very reasonable. Pleasant office, friendly receptionist. The doctor was a bit aloof. I had questions and wanted to discuss my issues but she seemed disinterested, beyond giving me her assessment. She didn't rush me, more of a brush off. I had to remove my contacts for the exam - their set up for that is terrible. The sink is on one side of the room, the mirror on the other! Most other optometrists will give you a weeks supply of daily lenses gratis with the visit. Here I had to ask, and they were only able to give me 4 lenses total. The weirdest thing was that there is a sign saying you must wear a mask in the building and in the office, and they enforced with me. But while I was waiting, a woman came in without a mask, and they told her she was ok! She appeared to be a saleswoman for eyewear. Later, she was joined by a man, and he did not wear a mask either. I really dislike it when Covid rules are applied unequally. What's the point, then?

Unfortunately the floor was coming up towards me and I could not see with the new script. The person who fit me to a frame said the glasses were fine. I checked with Dr Valentine and it turns out the prescription glass lenses were put in UPSIDE DOWN. I was told it would take weeks to fix! Why? Cant a person just turn the lenses right side up. I would go to the Dr Valentine but get your script filled someplace else. Anyplace but here.

Now that Drs Mooney and Bettencourt have retired, Dr Quang is the only doctor...if you can get a…read morereasonable appointment. Routine eye exams are usually three, sometimes four months out. Other places I have called can get you in about a month, month and a half which is what I would expect. Dr Quang is very nice and I have seen him the last few years, but I have reservations. I was having issues reading with single Rx contacts which I use for distance. Without contacts or glasses I can read well. He saw my issue as: middle-aged, "can't read with contacts made for distance", must be presbyopia. He suggested multifocal contacts (MFCs). They were awful. Double vision, can't focus, unclear vision near or far. Rx was tweaked and new brand tried. Same issues but not as intense. After about two months wearing them everyday, my eyes and brain adjusted but the MFCs still weren't great. In late 2024 I went in for my annual. Rx changed very slightly as always and an Optoscan showed no issues. I raised my concerns about the MFCs and restated that I can read well without eyewear; distance is more my concern, but I want to use contacts. Single Rx contacts for distance are great, but they don't do well for close distance hence MFCs. I wasn't sold MFCs are the solution for me. When I proved to him I can read without eye wear/contacts, he seemed to be out of options since the middle-aged, "can't read with contacts made for distance", must be presbyopia box didn't fit me. He referred me to an ophthalmologist in Worcester which ended up being a terrible experience (long story). I left there with the resolution of: "It's the MFCs. They are awful." I decided to research a different eye care provider rather than go back to Leominster Family Eyecare (the new name) given it takes forever to get an appointment and the quality of care isn't as high as it used to be.

They closed the office without warning and didn't bother to let patients know so I drove 45 min each way for nothing. This is the level of care for their patients this has come to.

I was referred to Dr. Nisarg Chhaya, MD, and scheduled to see Dr. Aaron Fay on October 20, 2025. When I called to check for earlier availability due to my worsening vision, I was shocked to learn that my appointment had been cancelled without my consent and pushed to December 9. This behavior is egregious, irresponsible, and disrespectful. It shows poor communication and lack of professionalism. Patients deserve better care, transparency, and accountability.

When I asked about this, they told me perfectionists don't do well with Lasik. I was not the only one who was upset by the customer service- one lady walked out saying that it had gone downhill. I almost left halfway through the appointment. The lasik is cheap because they don't cover prescription or touch up if needed. You also have to drive 1.5 hrs + to another office for the procedure. I highly suggest paying a bit more and going elsewhere. I'm not usually picky when it comes to minor things or events, I'm not even sure I've written a Yelp review before, but when dealing with my eyesight and SURGERY, I expect a lot more.
