Needed to schedule eye exams for my husband and I. The receptionist struggled on the phone to make the appointments. I was on the phone with her for 28 minutes to schedule 2 simple routine eye exams. Scheduled the wrong day from the request, then the wrong location. This went on for several minutes. I confirmed the appointments verbally with the receptionist over the phone, and she had to put me on hold to look it back up. I have never experienced something like this before for a simple call to make eye appointments. Started out with friendly people but got to a point where questions about treatment were not getting answered and felt like main goal was to schedule more appointments to get more money. So horrible! I'm still crying! I have gone to this place three times. I have ptosis. The last two times it has been the same girl who gives me the eye exam before meeting the doctor. She has me wear an eye patch on one eye then use a clicker when I see a flash. Then the first time I saw her she used paper tape to prop my eyelid up and redo test. Now yesterday, I had to redo this same test and everyone in the office was in a mood. There was a Karen at the front desk just yelling at patients to sit down. The couple were this cute old couple. Anyways, she put strong latex tape over my eyelid over my eyebrow and up into my hair. I instantly said omg! Why the heck did you just put such strong tape all over me! And she had this blank dumb look on her face and shrug her shoulders. I said I'm not going to be able to get this off?! It took a half hour of me sitting there I had to pull chunks of my hair out and it cut up my eyelid bad. I just had my eyelid soaking in lotion and kept trying to lightly get it off but it was pulling my eyelid!!! I said this is burning so much it's written in my file that IM ALLERGIC TO LATEX! Don't you know that? She goes we always use that tape. Bull! She never apologized. Nothing. My eye is all cut up and swollen. I had to use two epi pens. I'm on Benadryl still. If this scars I have pictures and will be getting a lawyer and will be sueing. read more

I HIGHLY recommend avoiding using D'Ambrosio Eye Care. Based on my experience, I do not feel like my business was appreciated, nor that my needs took priority over my money. I was not billed properly in 2023, and they are trying to get me to pay a $405 bill, which I was only JUST notified by way of letter in 2025. In October 2023, I had an exam done. I had previously provided their office with TWO insurances, one for vision specifically (which they are in network) and medical insurance through Harvard Pilgrim. According to their notes (that I JUST found out about in March 2025 from them verbally when I called), they claim they called me to tell me that my medical insurance had expired (which I have no record of), and clearly did not try to run the actual vision insurance with has been the same for the last 8 years. I only learned about this $405 bill in 2025. In addition, I went to the office in November of 2023 TWICE, as well as called last year for a copy of my prescription - to which no-one told me of this issue. When I called billing, I spoke with a person named Savon who, when I expressed frustration with JUST getting this bill, said point blank "well why didn't you call us sooner?" As someone who works in and has managed people who do customer service for a living, the 'service' I received from her was by far the worst I have had in years. I felt she was not interested in helping me resolve this issue as I was met immediately with aversion when expressing my frustration. She refused to give me the name of the supervisor (who of course was 'in a meeting'). When I told her I would hold, she told me she could no longer hold. When I said I would hold and further critiqued her service based on my negative experience, she told me that I could no longer hold because I was 'holding up her line' and hung up on me. I called back and got another representative Melissa who was helpful and gave me more information, and told me to call the insurance company since they can't file claims over a year old. She recommended I called the insurance company, which I did - who also refused to help me do to the timeframe (service in 2023, call in 2025). When I called back and spoke to Melissa, she told me basically there was nothing SHE could do, but the supervisor could help. Of course she couldn't give me the supervisor's name either, but she transferred me to her voicemail. Not once anywhere did I receive any empathy or compassion for this $405 billing issue. I left the supervisor, Michelle, 2 voicemails on Friday, 3/14. I left her another one today, 3/18 and still have not heard back. After multiple attempts to contact them, I still have not received satisfactory assistance regarding the billing problem, and my calls to the supervisor have gone unanswered. I believe it is crucial for organizations in the healthcare space to prioritize patient experience and to ensure that customers feel valued and heard. I deeply hope that my feedback can contribute towards improving services at D'Ambrosio Eye Care, so no other patient must face similar frustrations in the future. While I felt like the doctors did a nice job on my exams, I feel like their Backoffice and front desk operations could use a serious attitude change. **UPDATE 3/19/2025** I got a call back from the billing supervisor Michelle. She told me: 1) She reiterated immediately that they indeed called me on 1/2/2024 based on a note in the system left by the billing coordinator, and also that they sent me FIFTEEN BILLS. When I asked if she could pull that call to see if it actually took place she could not - they do not record calls, only notes within their system. 2) I asked her if she could pull my original inpatient documentation to confirm that VSP insurance was listed (I know it was, as I had asked their front desk what I put there since they do not provided ID cards) and why they didn't use it. She said they scan in all documents into an imaging system and that it wasn't there. When I clarified by asking if she was looking at the actual form or just their system, and she said that she could only see a contact lens contract, no incoming patient paperwork. When I asked if she could go to the front and see if they have a copy, she said no and they don't save copies - they scan them in and then shred them. 3) She later conceded she didn't know what happened or where the ball was dropped, but offered to give me the self-pay price of $250 vs. the $405. Knowing I wouldn't get anywhere with her to continue to push, I paid the bill with her over the phone. She was also very defensive, annoyed, and accused me of cutting her off when I tried to voice my frustration. After thanking her, I diplomatically laid into her for her and her team's bad attitude, she said nothing and hung up. I would HIGHLY recommend avoiding D'Ambrosio Eye Care. Horrific and aggressive admin/back end/front end staff!!! They wrote the book on excuses..."they are in a meeting", "we have no control over that", "that's not our dept", "I can only leave a message", "we're short staffed" and stand absolutely firm on not being able to give out any names. After my experience there I can understand why they don't ... if I was treating people the way they are I would never give my name either. Absolutely NO accountability with this group! My 1st appt was w/Dr Judy Bavonghoun. The visit resulted in her giving an incorrect prescription for contact lenses, wrong medical history noted, no return messages for corrections needed, then the staff had Dr Fu call me "to deal with this patient". While speaking with him he told me Dr Judy was "on vacation and why she didn't get back to you" then I was told "she's on leave" and when I asked when she's expected back and when I could plan to follow up with her for the correction he just responded "we have no idea". Ironically when I called after discovering the errors the staff told me "she's in a meeting and we'll have her call you back" and of course that call back never came. Typically whenever someone is out on leave there is a lot of paper that goes with it so this was a poor response to say the least and still no assistance from the fellow Dr in the proper clinical role to correct Judy's errors. Then the admin staff refused to have anyone else in the clinical staff make the necessary corrections - end result: no changes made and I now have inaccurate medical records. Dr Judy did not do a complete exam, she decided instead have it completed w/a 2nd appt instead and it was made for 2 months later. This delayed treatment for an ongoing condition even further and prevented a necessary prescription to be renewed. Then the admin staff cancelled the 2nd appt Dr Judy made w/o my consent or knowledge when the incorrect prescription was brought to their attention, inaccurate records created, incomplete exam & delaying an existing condition treatment. When I initially made the appt the discussion was mainly about what insurance I had and confirming it was active. Once that was done we booked the appt & 30 mins prior to the appt start time I received a call from the office stating "we'll need to cancel your appt because we don't take your insurance". They insisted I pay for the initial visit even though it was covered by my insurance and not until 5 months later and them realizing they had created a potential malpractice situation they suddenly had a change of heart. I received a call from the office manager Kelly Madson who had the sweetest voice initially on that call telling me "we've decided we're going to refund you the money you paid for the visit" & tried to quickly end the call. When I asked any further questions her sweet voice then changed to a stern authority figure & speaking to me in a demeaning way. When I asked if she was able to find the proper person to help with the records correction since inaccurate info was put in there she responded in a very snippy, unprofessional and defensive manner saying "we're NOT changing ANYTHING in your records" and said "she'd have no further discussion about that & would not accept me speaking to her that way!" and hung up on me. What?? What way?? I asked a simple question about a correction needed for a mistake HER staff made. Then she called me back a littlet later & claimed I now need to make my request in writing, put me on hold for 10 mins came back & said "you will not dictate to me what to do!" & hung up on me!! There was no reason for her to call me back again for merely harassment purposes & to hang up on me. Moral of the story is STAY AWAY from this practice - ALL of their sites! They pride themselves on "being short staffed" and have high expectations of all patients to accommodate them, their rudeness, unprofessionalism & aggressive behaviors! Someone needs to remind them they are in the medical field which is not an easy field because you deal with human beings that need proper medical care but also a caring support staff who offers active listening, empathy & high level professionalism. Admin staff are not security guards and it is not the patients job to make the admin staff feel comfortable! Let's be real folks...as much as medical and dental professionals are needed and respected how many of us are excited to spend our time, money and emotions at any of their offices for appts, procedures, or any other reason? Someone please take the initiative out there and make a big change in staffing expectations ... it is the only way to have an efficient and honest organization and the people that are good hires take pride in themselves, their work and strive to work with others around them so EVERYONE in the organization shines!! Edit: 2nd visit. Tech was good. Front office staff were terrible. Adjectives that come to mind are "rude, surley, unpleasant, and unhelpful" I got the impression that I was bothering her. I watched three similar interactions with clients while waiting. Really unprofessional. It was a really unpleasant intro to the day. NOTE to owner. I probably won't be back. I'd suggest replacing your front/reception staff with folks who have a better attitude towards clients. Review from 1st visit: I've only been once, but it was a good visit. They got me in as a new patient on the day I called. The check-in was relatively easy but not welcoming. It wasn't too bad a wait to be seen (25 min wait). The screening exams were done quickly and efficiently. The ophthalmologist I saw ( Dr. Bor-Shavit) was thorough, went over the results in detail, and very patient with my questions. Never again! Like the other reviews I found check-in cumbersome but my complaint is about cost. The doctor said he'd do my eye lid surgery in an eye surgery center in Gardner. I tried to find out what the cost would be but D'ambrosio said it was up to the surgery center but probably about $200-$300. The surgery center said the cost was up to the D'ambrosio eye doctor doing the surgery but probably about $200-$300!?!? Nobody would give me a straight answer and after the surgery they actually changed me over $1500 and said it was too late to do anything about the price!!! Never again! read more

Always behind schedule! Leominster location: This place isn't run efficiently at all! You have to call to check in before you even get there or while sitting in your car, but then you're sitting in the waiting area for at least a half hour beyond your appointment! The technicians are nice, but they basically just shuffle you around to another waiting area in the back. I'm not sure what the receptionist in the front, other than make sure you called to check in. This place just herds you through like cattle an assembly line that isn't efficient or effective. Apparently the phone check-in is where they are also supposed to tell you if the Dr is running late, but of course they don't. But what would it matter? You're either already on your way there, or sitting in the parking lot, so it's too late by that point. All the technology but not enough brains to figure out how to check you in upon arrival, or how to keep your wait time down to a minimum. Some of us have jobs and can't sit around all afternoon. I arrived for my appointment 3-4 minutes late due to traffic and trying to find a parking spot in a lot that was near full. I called the phone number to check in from the parking lot as instructed. Was waiting on hold for about 10 minutes, then was told I was late for my appointment and would have to reschedule. This was on 9/19, next appointment available was 12/6. I've brought my family to these folks for 20 years. My last pair of frames broke unexpectedly today... as I can't drive or work without them, I drove right over to their Lancaster site as I have done countless times for quick frame fixes/adjustments. Used my prescription sunglasses - useless indoors and at night... lucky I had them. I was met at the front door by an extremely rude woman who would not even take the time to hear my needs - appointment only - go away... worst customer experience I have ever had. I'm being quite serious... actually closed the door in my face! After considering going somewhere else and never going back to these folks ever again, I gave it one last try and called them while I was still in the parking lot. There answering system is anti consumer - actually tells you don't leave messages - try to figure out your needs among 20 different options. Frustrating in the extreme... If phone contact is the only option allowed, this should be made as painless as possible for the customer. It currently isn't... I finally spoke to a very nice woman in the optometry department who understood my emergency immediately - she agreed to meet me at the side door and was able to put a temp fix on my frames in 5 minutes. She sincerely apologized for the previous treatment and hoped I would continue being a customer. She is the only reason I give this review 2 stars... I'll be honest, if it weren't for the latter follow-up experience I would find another optometrist and never look back. At this point, I'm honestly on the fence... looking over other review here, I can see others have had similar negative experiences as well. Some businesses seem to hide behind the covid restrictions as an excuse and shut down on there customer service, making it as hard as possible to engage their business.. others find a way around them to keep their customers happy and satisfied. These folks are without doubt in the former category... I can attest that there are some really good folks working there, but I'm not sure the few good folks out weigh the negatives here... consider before becoming a customer here, it may simply be more difficult than it's worth just to get an eye test and some glasses. I made an appointment and was hounded daily with emails and texts. When I arrived I called and was asked a few Covid19 questions, understandable. I was then transferred to someone to give my medical history while still in my car. I am a patient who deserves respect, not a cow in a cattle car. They were rude and condescending. I was treated like I had no idea where I was or what I was doing. When does this stop, the answer is never as long as we the patient accept this treatment. This practice is only interested in getting paid, not treating the patient with respect and care. I only wish I had paid attention to the previous reviews. I decided I had enough and drove away. HORRIBLE! You have better service at the RMV. They have NO care for patients, you are just a number and a payment. Waited in the parking lot to get the approval to come in and wait longer, Every chair in every hallway is filled with patients waiting. Advised that the doc was running late (They should have rescheduled but Nope, take a chair) 1.45 minutes after appointment time, the doc finally came in, rushing that he was running late, so my elderly aunt was treated like an afterthought. Doc put drops in her eyes and ran out, to see another patient, Came back in, added another drop, raced out, came in to take actually look at her and the tech assistant reminded him he missed one check. They are AWFUL and all they want is to push you on to another appt with another specialist. I will spend every day telling anyone I come in contact with how bad this place is. They are lucky that they have the contract with the local prison, that is the only way they can maintain the trapped audience. They use to be wonderful! but they now have all new staff and with the Covid-19 practices they put into place, it is unfriendly and rude. I recently had a horrible experience with one of their doctors, and reported it to Dr. D'Ambrosio. Got a brief letter, not from him, but a clinician. No phone call either. My mother had a full exam at the center. The entire process was wonderful from the time she arrived in the parking lot. They took her right in after informing them she was there. The doctor who examined her was professional and thorough, and she loves her new glasses. Had eye surgery scheduled. 3 days before the surgery, appointment time was moved up several hours, to a time that was extremely difficult to meet. It simply was not possible for us to get there at that hour and they absolutely REFUSED to schedule it for a later time. Likely they had cancellations (not my problem) or wanted to get out early, or maybe they are still hiding behind Covid, there excuse for bad service for the last 3 years. There are a multitude of reasons (age, pets, travel time among them) we made the appointment at the original time but D'Ambrosio doesn't care what OUR needs are. Had laser cataract surgery by Dr.Chang on both eyes with Light Adjustable Lens being used to replace the damaged natural lens. Now I can see as good as ever without using even reading glasses. Am very pleased with the final outcome and Dr. Chang's chairside manner. I was referred to her by another opthamologist in Worcester who felt that she could handle my case better than himself..........I have lots of respect for him also. It was a long drawn out number of appointments and expensive procedure but worth it. read more

My Dr for years, Dr. Erickson retired: he was great. Last appointment with him he warned me I had the start of a cataract in one eye. Fast forward a year and I am seeing Dr Chang who informs me I have cataracts in both eyes and will need surgery... AND that Dr. Erickson had reported that (he had not). So, bums rush into laser surgery in November and December. No guidance on how to deal with good vision in one eye and bad in the other post-surgery. From January to June I have experienced retinal tearing 3 times (1x left and 2x right), each time needing painful laser surgery to close the tearing. I still have floaters plaguing BOTH eyes... no sign of dissipating. It has never been proven to me that I, in fact, had cataracts in BOTH eyes. Agree with others that it's all about getting laser patients in, as many as possible, to finance their laser equipment. Do not go here if you value your eyesight and if you must: get a second opinion before any surgeries. Don't let them touch you! read more

The worst staff-to-patient support i have encountered in any healthcare practice. i was rudely delayed on the phone check-in service for over twenty minutes. Cold, clinical attitude from the start. The clerk had no idea where i belonged. In what city. In what clinic. For what procedure. After repeating my birthdate over and over, i was questioned as to my location. Was it Leominster or was it Lancaster. Not being aware D'Ambrosio had different sites. (All my dealings had been with the location off of Rte 2.) I'm new to the area and don't know the town lines. i was DRILLED as to what i was seeing. Could i see a Target store? Could i see a what site my appointment was scheduled. Could i see a CVS? All with a tense and impatient manner., Finally, she surmised i was a the Lancaster location. She put me on hold, telling me a technician would call my cell phone. After 5 minutes of waiting a technician did call and began the, 'What is your birthdate?" drill. Exasperated, i explained i already was drilled on the birthdate issue. (Almost forgot..the first clerk drilled me as to my primary care physician's name. I explained all my primary care took place at the Dorchester House in Boston and had a few primary care doctors, so i was not sure. The clerk grew impatient with that answer and told me she needed it. i repeated i didn't know right then but, in time, i could find out. Her tone and shortness let me know she was NOT pleased with me.) Now 'the technician' grew impatient when i asked how many times i was supposed to give my date of birth. I grew 'short' and asked if i was going to be seen or not or would i be questioned all afternoon. I think i said, "Are we going to get this procedure done or not?" She hung up. I waited. No one called for five minutes. i felt perhaps since i was not responsive enough in time or with my answers or my stupidity of not knowing what clinic I was in front of, that they would deem me unfit for my appointment. Finally, the phone rang and a technician told me i must have disconnected the last technician and that a technician would greet me at the door. When i arrived at the door, the technician told me i needed a mask. i explained i didn't have one. She left me at the door and brought one to me. Again, COLD AND CLINICAL. Not a whisper of ANY pleasantry or social grace. Not even a, "How are you today?" NOTHING. I was TOLD to follow her. Now, really agitated i asked if we could just get this procedure done? i did raise my voice. She snapped that i was not to yell at her and she would get the manager. The manager appeared and tried to explain the reason for my angst. Now the technician began yelling at me, "Why aren't you yelling at the manager?" i turned to the manager. She began to chide me that i couldn't yell. i explained that what they interpreted as yelling was NOT yelling and that i could yell if they wanted to hear the difference. ALL IN A VERY LOW VOICE. The manager now told me i had to leave and escorted me to the door. BTW i am an amputee and was not wearing my prosthesis so she had to wait for me to catch up to her. What is amazing and SHOCKING to me is on my previous visits to the clinic in the past few months is the difference in attitude and care between the 'clinic' side and the optician side. The optician side are totally opposite in manner and demeanor. They are kind and professional. i purchased two pair of extremely expensive designer glasses from them and was thrilled and ecstatic over the experience. NO PROBLEMS. instead, the BEST of customer service. I even asked them if they could impart their techniques to the 'other side, the DARK SIDE'. They chuckled and indicated that they knew of what i spoke. So how is it that my demeanor and response to professional, empathetic care was fruitful to both parties? Me and the opticians and my reaction to the cold and clinical side got me expelled from the site? Another note. On the visit to the site on my first visit, the examining team found a spot that they wanted to investigate. They took me to a room with some sort of camera. i was told someone would come to take the 'picture'. Some one came in i was not told or introduced to this 'someone'. The someone began grabbing my face with zero explanation or advance warning that she would or why my face would be grabbed and pushed around till she got it in the correct area. Kind of amazing that there was a total lack of bedside manner. A follow up was suggested to the 'camera' visit. i made the appointment. At the last minute, the clinic cancelled the appointment saying they had another patient that needed that spot. Yesterday's appointment was supposed to be that follow up visit. Instead MY impatience got me evicted. Gee Dr.D'Ambrosio might you not consider giving the optician side of your practice the opportunity to give and inservice to the clinical side? I have been going to DEC for years. Dr. Chang is amazing. I have no issues with the ophthalmology/optometry folk at all. Super polite, friendly, professional. The optical, well, this department needs work. If you've ever been here, you know it's like Fort Knox to get in. Their Covid precautions are extremely restrictive. I had to make an appointment 2 weeks ahead of time to get a new pair of eyeglasses. Hey, safety, right? I arrived for my appt a few minutes early, called from my car like they ask you to do, was told the optician was with another customer and I would get a call back when they were ready to assist me. Ok, fine. I waited another 15 minutes and was called in. Two women greeted me (I believe one was training), and we got down to the business of choosing frames. I've had the same pair of eyeglasses for 5 years. My prescription hasn't changed much, I was only getting new frames because my old ones were so beaten up. Styles have changed a lot since I bought my last pair, and I had a hard time finding something even remotely similar to what I was wearing, but the ladies were very helpful, and picked out a half dozen or so pairs to try on. This is where the review gets negative. As I sat trying on frames, I overheard the receptionist answering a phone call. She put the customer on hold, turned to one of the opticians and said, "Your x'oclock is here, do you want me to have them come in?" The man grunted and said, "They're half an hour early, hell no, they can wait." The receptionist then said into the phone, "The optician is with another customer, we'll call you when they're ready." I think the guy saw me staring at him incredulously, because he sat down at his desk and after a brief moment called the customer in. Wow. Don't know what his name is, but he was an arrogant jerk. Trying on frames when you're in Covid Fort Knox is difficult. I was told a couple times, "Ma'am, you have to leave your mask on." Ok, but can't I just pull it down so I can see what I look like with these glasses on? "Ma'am, you need to keep your mask on or we'll have to stop here." That's when I should have stopped and walked out. That was my mistake. I had the frame selection narrowed down to 3 pairs, and could not for the life of me make a decision. Hard to choose when you really have no idea how you look in them. I finally just accepted the opinion of the ladies assisting me and chose a pair. Several hundred dollars later, I left, after being told, "They'll be ready in about 2 weeks." Fast forward to today. The eyeglasses were ready, but if I wanted to make sure they fit right I had to make another appointment. Otherwise, I could do curbside pickup and accept them as-is. I didn't want to wait another 2 weeks for an appointment, so I drove around the side of the building and someone ran them out to me. I took them out of the case, wiped the marker spots off the lenses, and put them on. I hate them. They look hideous. Oh sure, with a mask on, they're pretty benign. On my bare face? Ugh. Learn from my mistake. I'm going to keep them as a(n expensive) spare, but I am now heading somewhere else that doesn't make me wear PPE just to get into the building to get a new pair. And if you're told, "Your optician is with another customer," chances are he's just irritated that you're early for your appointment and doesn't want to deal with you. read more

If you want personal service, do not go here! They try to sell you all kinds of procedures. Which I feel are not needed. I also found out that there's a quota they have to meet or the money comes right out of their paycheck. The staff is not friendly I feel that they are miserable. Avoid this place at all costs! I've tried to go here for years and it just doesn't work - the staff is rude, the doctors don't care and spend no time with you and you will always spend a minimum of 2 hours here no matter what your appointment is for. They insisted I had dry eyes, recommended eye plugs and a supplement, then immediately sold my information to a supplement company that called me once every few days for months before I finally told them to please leave me alone. No eye dr before or since has ever told me I have dry eyes so I think this is a scam they are running. Stupidly I kept going back. A friend of mine went in and instead of using contact lens solution while in the exam room they gave her dilating drops instead. It destroyed her contacts and her eyes were dilated for a couple of days. Today takes the cake though. I needed an appointment soon so I tried calling to make an appointment (out of desperation) and I spoke to two different receptionists, both of which were the opposite of helpful. Both of them were combative and rude and just really didn't care. I think that's the root of the problem in general though - the place doesn't care and nobody there is interested in repeat business. They treat you like trash, make mistakes, ignore you, speak to you however they please and there are no consequences. They have no answering machine, no way to book or cancel an appointment aside from calling them, and they won't set up a cancellation list. They are anti helpful in seemingly every way that they can. After my altercation today I called another local eye dr and the experience was night and day. The receptionist was cheerful and respectful, listened to what I needed and fit me into the schedule immediately. She answered all of my questions and if she didn't know the answer she went to ask someone else to verify. I'll be going to this new place from now on and D'Ambrosio should take all these negative reviews and try to change their ways if they care to keep their patients. I'm 23 and got Lasik last week at D'ambrosio and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made! I was nervous, seeing as it's eye surgery and all, but everyone I interacted with was patient and knowledgeable the whole way through. Dr. Chang especially was so awesome, she did my surgery perfectly and I can see better than 20/20 now! I really can't say enough about her, I'm so happy she was my surgeon. Sure, you have to wait 10-15 minutes in your car due to covid and the fact they're busy, but the small wait is worth it. These folks know what they're doing and they do it well. I had my very first appointment here this past Tuesday. I have to admit I was nervous based on the reviews I read but am here to say my experience was fantastic. Their Covid protocols were smooth and my interactions with the staff were very friendly. I saw Dr Patel who was kind and helped me through an emergency eye visit. Not happy with my most recent interaction that is still in process. I called last Thursday after 8a to order my special contact, I requested to order two at a cost of over $700 and asked to have it shipped to my home instead of the office in Lancaster, MA. I was told by they person I was speaking to that he would call me back to confirm about the shipping to my address and to see if they could rush it since it was my only contact and I need it for driving nd I could not be without it for two weeks. Fast forward to Tuesday of the next week and no call, so I call back and asked if the contacts were ordered, ETA and tracking info and about shipping to my address. The person taking my call said hold on and looked at the information and told me that they were ordered but she would have to call me back about the other information, I told her okay but I wanted her to know that someone was supposed to call me and never did but she said she would call me back. Today Wednesday, I call back because of course, I did not receive a call back. I asked the same information and was placed on hold to read the notes. The person on the phone this time said, that the lenses were just ordered and could not have an ETA for me since the order had not gone through yet. I said, I ordered the lenses last Thursday and was not told that the lenses were not ordered in the two occasions I had call ed. She said that the prescription expired and they had to get another one from the doctor. I said you realize that this is a week later and that it took that long to get the prescription from the doctor who works in the same place. I also said why didn't this come up yesterday? she said I wasn't here yesterday so I don't know. Highly disappointed and a bit upset. I rely on these contacts to drive and I have not being able to drive to work and there goes a wasted week. The thing is that they are supposedly ordered but I won't really know will I? and calling and asking does not matter because I will not get the right information, Funny thing though, my credit card was charge for the full price but the lenses was not ordered. Had my first appointment today 9/26. Never been here before, the place was huge. Way bigger than I expected, it felt very impersonal. There were 10+ people already in the waiting room when I got there. 20 minutes later, they finally took someone in. After 45 minutes my name was not called, though 4 or 5 others who came in after me were called. Finally went to the desk to ask. The person at the desk said "she will find out". 5 minutes later she calls me up and said "the printer didn't work so the Dr. didn't know you were here". Huh? What does a printer have to do with it, someone clearly dropped the ball. She said I was officially "next" and I had to wait another 10 minutes. Total wait time 60 minutes. Barely an apology for their mistake. The tech was nice enough and seemed to do a good job. The Dr. was good and thorough. While waiting for the drops to kick in, I went to pick out a new pair of glasses. The optometrist was fine, but definitely tried to upsell me EVERYTHING. New glasses were way more $ than I expected with good insurance. I guess I could have went cheaper, but that's on me. Went back to the Dr. to finish and that was fine. She wanted to do 2 more tests, but I was already behind schedule due to their mistakes. I had to schedule them for a future time. I then had to wait again to check out, about 10 more minutes. Total time was over 2 hours, but 70 minutes of that was waiting. Will give them one more chance with the next test, but if that goes poorly, I will not be back. read more

Cant leave ZERO stars. Completely a money mill for the owners. You and your concerns are the last priority for these folks. Last visit in Feb 2019 I was dilated during the exam and asked to wait in the hallway waiting area until that took effect. After 25 minutes I asked if I had been forgotten, was told " the dr may have gotten an emergency or is busy but they will be with you as soon as possible" (I put that in quotes for a reason). After another 20 minutes I asked another member of the staff what was happening, I was told "the dr may have gotten an emergency or is busy but they will be with you as soon as possible", THE EXACT SAME PHRASE AND TERMINOLOGY ! Obviously they have this canned response memorized because it happens so often. After almost an hour and a half they started turning off the lights and locking up ! I came wandering into the main waiting area and the woman told me " We are closed ! You can't be in here ! I did not even try to explain my frustration to her for fear of going ballistic, I just walked out and left. They billed my insurance for $330 and were denied, they resubmitted and got paid.... Meanwhile I still cant get another exam since I am only allowed 1 per year and I have to wait until Feb 2020, I need a new Rx and glasses badly! read more

The optical department are rude and very unhelpful. I had an appointment scheduled in Lancaster they moved it a week later to Gardner so I called the optical department and asked if they could send my glasses to Gardner. The Rude gentleman in the Lancaster office said that he will not send them up there because he doesn't know if his tech is going to be comfortable giving me a pair glasses. (His Tech) is that his girlfriend who knows don't wanna put them out but it's OK for me to drive 54 minutes to gardner a half an hour to Lancaster and then 40 minutes back to my house with two kid. OH. Don't asked to talk to the office manager because she'll just send you back to the optical department and then they can tell you if you want your glasses we will CHARG $$$ you to mail them. So I guess my biggest issue is you move my appointment to a different site. And then you can't even help me out by giving me my glasses that are at the site that I originally go to and you have plenty of time to send them up there. Some of the girls can do their job, some act like they can but can't. Bought new glasses even though I didn't need them because one optician fixed them AFTER I spent money on new ones. Years ago I went here but didn't return due to long wait times in the reception area. The practice is huge and not very personal. Recently I was diagnosed with an eye condition and sought cost information from two practices. D'Ambrosio was noticeably more affordable than the other provider. I have not received my bills yet, but they have been excellent at giving me the billing codes needed to get an estimate from my insurer. Wilma was especially helpful. Office staff also readily provided cash pricing. You get what you pay for, which is why the wait times are still long, you can't schedule follow up appointments but have to wait to hear from them because they are so overbooked, and the opthalmic and call center staff are young and inexperienced. For example, I was supposed to be given a brochure but the assistant forgot to give it to me, so I called the next day to see if they could mail it to me and the person I spoke with said they couldn't handle it and would have to get the doctor involved. I never did get this information. I was also told on the phone that I could opt out of their text reminders which come across as gobbledygook and get e-mails instead, just inform the office upon check-in, only to be told when I arrived that an outside service does the reminders and they have no idea how to change this. The front line employees seem afraid to do anything out of the ordinary. The clinical care is typical for the United States fee for service model with an emphasis on billable procedures. I had a wait and watch condition and was told I needed a fluorescein angiogram. At no time was I informed of the risks of the procedure, including heart attack or death. It is provided in the doctor's office without an onsite ER department. The test is invasive and so dangerous pregnant women are not allowed to receive it. I cancelled this test, which had also been recommended by the other more expensive practice I contacted. My son went here once for an eye emergency when my provider at the time refused to fit him in. I still appreciate that and it's why I decided to try D'Ambrosio again but it is unlikely I will return.
