Stay far away from this company. We hired Bay Drainage to install a french drain inside our house. This involved cutting and breaking the concrete floor in our storage room. Dave told us we could leave our belongings in the room and did not have to worry about dust as they would spend the first couple hours covering every surface with plastic wrap. This matched our expectations from past remodeling and construction jobs with other contractors. The day the work started, the concrete saw was running 30 minutes after Dave and crew arrived, and soon after two of our smoke alarms were going off due to the excessive amount of dust. The air cleaner upstairs also started running full blast, and it was getting hard to breathe anywhere in the house. We asked them to stop the work, moved some of our belongings, and left the house for the rest of the day. In retrospect, we should have just told them to stop completely. When we came back later in the day, the air cleaner was still running full blast, and we were able to see the work site for the first time. Dave's crew had done an extremely shoddy job with the insulation -- there were big gaps between the plastic wrap and the floor/ceiling, and some areas were completely uncovered. Due to this, every surface in the storage room, and all of our belongings, were covered in a thick layer of fine concrete dust, which is known to have serious health effects including silicosis and lung cancer. The dust has completely penetrated our electronics, camping gear, chair cushions, and clothes. There was even a layer of dust inside closets in the next room. It was absolutely everywhere. When I talked to Dave about this the next day, instead of taking responsibility for his crew's mistake like a professional, his initial reaction was to fold his arms like a kindergartener and say "construction is messy, what do you want me to do about it?" He incorrectly claimed the concrete dust is nothing to worry about ("dust is dust, your lungs can handle a bit of dust"), but finally admitted they did a "sh*tty job" and agreed to pay for a cleaning crew after I showed him the pictures. We've had extensive work done on this house (fully remodeled a kitchen and 2 bathrooms, and had asbestos tiles removed) and never had a single speck of dust anywhere. Our previous contractors took the time to insulate their worksites the right way, and had airtight insulation. The mess we've had to deal with after this job was beyond anything I could have imagined. I do not understand how they managed to stay in business for all these years. We hired a professional post-construction cleaning company to clear the bulk of the dust, and we spent hours every day for over a week dusting and wiping everything over and over again to get the remaining dust out of everything. We also had to throw out bags of stuff that we couldn't possibly clean. For full transparency, we did manage to negotiate a discount that doesn't even begin to make up for the pain we went through. I cannot, under any circumstances, recommend working with this company. In hindsight, another rainy winter without a french drain might have done less damage to our house and our belongings than Dave's crew has.

Working to seal the shared wall.

We had a problem with proper drainage under our deck. The deck was installed next to a wall that we share with our neighbor, and when it rained, water would leak into her home through the wall. There must have been a crack along the wall below the dirt surface for water to seep across. Dave came promptly to look at it and explained it all to me. He was very courteous and even funny. He gave me a reasonable estimate and even gave me a generous discount after removing the deck boards to further assess the problem. His crew is very hard working and courteous and finished the work promptly. They ended up removing the extra dirt, installing a new drain, waterproofing the shared wall, and installing a French drain along the shared wall. After the deck boards were replaced, we water tested the area thoroughly to make sure that the leaky wall was patched and sealed. If you have a drainage problem, I highly recommend Dave and his company, Bay Drainage. Dave is an expert with drainage issues and will do his best to address your needs and problems.

    Soil compaction behind retaining walls

Dave and the crew at Bay Drainage are amazing. My wife and I undertook a massive back yard remodel - pool, retaining walls, pavilion etc. What started out as a simple project to put in a French drain alongside the house turned into drainage throughout the entire remodel - French drainage behind retaining walls, sump pump for pool and surface drains for landscaping. Dave bailed us out countless times when other contractors failed to show or led us down the wrong path. He basically stepped in to GC project on his own dime! Dave is super honest and a real expert in this space. He's been around! His crew is great, showed up everyday and they work hard! He's worked w a number of our neighbors on various projects since ours and I can't thank him enough. Rest assured that Dave /Bay Drainage will handle your drainage needs! We are super grateful for all of his help!

    Driveway

I Hired Bay Drainage originally for a full drainage retrofit on a recommendation from a friend, adding drainage + sump to the property plus french drains all around the foundation. I was happy enough with the work and the management of the project that I had Dave (owner) come back for several other large jobs since. Regarding the drainage work, first of all the prices for the provided quality of the work were great. I have worked with a lot of contractors and in my experience the company is a great deal in terms of work completed per dollar. Technically the quality of the drainage work was above average, they use a 2-drain system, one for the downspout/surface-drain and another for the french drains, ensuring that your downspouts do not drain into your foundation. They use the appropriate fill materials around the drainage, the french drains were around 4' deep and the sump was over 12' deep. Company-wise, Dave was on the property every day the work was performed often multiple times a day. Communication-wise Dave was excellent and flexible on the small changes/additional that came up. The employees are wearing uniforms (shirts) show up on time, in company trucks, are respectful and friendly, and are well trained. About a year after the drainage work was complete, I had not cleaned out the sump and the 2022 atmospheric river hit and it was not able to keep up. I called Dave and he was there in 15 minutes on hands and knees pulling out my sump pump and cleaning off the leaves. He sent an employee the next week to vacuum up additional debris from the bottom of the sump, didn't charge me. I have had Dave back to work on a number of other jobs since over $40k worth, pavers for the driveway/patio, entire sprinkler system, landscaping, planting, turf installation, and more. Overall, highly recommend, great company, good work, at fair prices. Also, one tip, Dave is Canadian, so you can pay in Canadian dollars and he won't notice, this can save you significant amount of money (/s).

I had Dave do a French drain and retaining walls around 2016. Portions of the wall started to lean a year after the install, he came and fixed it. Over the past 2 years more of the wall has started to lean. I've tried reaching out to him numerous times over two-year period, but he has not responded to calls or emails. I don't like leaving bad reviews but he's leaving me no choice. During the installation, I was working from home, so I kept an eye on the workmanship. On three occasions he had to dismantle and redo the retaining wall due to poor workmanship that I pointed out. It included not securing the blocks as directed by the manufacturer, not following manufacturer specifications for the foundation layer and installing the drainage perforated pipe upside down. As for the French drain, once it's installed and buried, you have no idea if it was installed correctly. A couple of years later I had to do some additional landscape work that required me to connect to the drainage that Dave installed. I found an incorrectly installed perforated pipe (holes are facing sideways instead of down. Basically non-functional) and found a pipe joint that had come apart due to poor gluing practice probably because it was wet (which explained the excessive wetness in that area) At this point, due to Dave's lack of responsiveness, I have no choice but to have someone else fix Dave's poor installation at my expense. Dave's a nice guy, but his failure to call back and address his workmanship issues caused me to write this review. Based on my experience at my house and his lack of responsiveness, I would be very cautious doing business with him.

Foundation Repair of CA (FRC) is the most disreputable, dishonest company I've ever encountered. I…read morehired them because I didn't want to hire the lowest bidder for a change, and I regret it. I wouldn't sign the contract when told I'd have to do my own masonry repair until sales agent Jesse Marquez showed me FRC corporate material that indicated the brick facade would be removed with a masonry saw, in an approximate 2x2' square. That was false and deceptive advertising. This is what they did to my house. No masonry saw was used, only impact drills, which act as small jackhammers. FRC significantly damaged the entire brick facade, adjacent areas showed extensive cracking, entire areas had the brick facade knocked completely off the house, and the wall foundation was separated from the brick wall entirely. I told the work crew, headed by Luis, to stop using impact wrenches on the bricks immediately, then told them TWICE. Not only did they not stop, despite direct STOP work orders, they then took all of the bricks they'd destroyed, which legally is theft, called conveyance. Jesse Marquez explained that the bricks were so old they'd shattered. Luis returned the bricks after Jesse Marquez called, ignoring my several phone calls and texts. Jesse texted that the bricks were so old they'd shattered. Luis returned them, none were shattered, all were broken by the impact drills. Luis confirmed, texting that the bricks were "broken". They took the bricks to hide the damage. The day FRC received my Contractor's State Licensing Board complaint, FRC messaged that someone would come to assess the damage for repairs, and FRC would repair the masonry they'd destroyed. They first sent Robert Pagan, who acknowledged both that there were no masonry saw marks, and that the damage was excessive. According to FRC, Jesse stated Robert hadn't said this. It wasn't until I pointed out he'd said it while standing in front of a Ring camera did that lie die. FRC then sent Troy Knight, who acknowledged the same, and stated he was there to help, and would see that the masonry was repaired and more. I have several texts, voicemails and emails from FRC stating they will complete the job. They never did. FRC employee Mike Crites was sent to perform the repairs. He returned the following week with the wrong sized bricks in the wrong color, and proceeded to do more damage. This is the work that they did. FRC employee Mike Crites initially stated that he had retired as a mason, he later revised that statement, saying he'd only worked with pavers and concrete. The work performed was so substandard, FRC sent Jovincio, who was the only honest person in my entire dealings with FRC. Jovencio said he wasn't a mason, but had "some training". Jovencio replaced the work done by Mike Crites. This is Mike's effort, and Jovincio's replacement work. The work performed is clearly substandard and unacceptable. FRC acknowledged the workers sent lacked the skills, training and necessary certifications to perform masonry repairs. When I requested that FRC send a mason, and included photos of the work, FRC responded that they'd done me a favor; the workers sent were a courtesy. The very clause they'd ignored (and invalidated) by removing the bricks was cited. That they would do no more, leaving me with the bill for their damage. This is what they left. I obtained a second quote to repair the deficient masonry 'work' FRC workers had done - without a REQUIRED permit, with no mortar pins, odd-sized and broken bricks mortared in randomly, mortar lines that range from non-existent to more than an inch. Crites' also removed the brick facade foundation in several sections, replacing it with sloppy concrete. This is a code-violating 'repair' that is neither plumb nor square. The legitimate mason company from whom I obtained a repair quote updated the quote, which has nearly doubled BECAUSE of the 'repairs' performed by the unqualified FRC employees. FRC called this doing me a favor, saying the inept crew was sent as a 'courtesy'. This is not doing me a favor, this is not a courtesy, this is at best fraud. After signing the contract (under false pretenses), Jesse insisted I needed an additional pier ($3,155) because piers can no longer be placed under a window. A pier was placed under the window. Two other piers were not placed according to the county approved structural engineering ($1,850) diagram. Half the piers were installed in the wrong places, apparently according to Luis' whims. Yesterday Groundworks gave an estimate on properly placing those piers. That's how I learned that the improperly placed piers had lifted a joist completely off its foundation supports. This, too, will require additional expense to correct, before it damages my house - literally to the roof. I should have stuck with Groundworks. This is your cautionary tale - no one who values integrity, ESPECIALLY senior women, shouldn't hire FRC.

One bedroom had sunk by almost 5 inches as that part of the house had been built on fill. In order to restore the house to it's proper level numerous foundation jacks and floor leveling screw jacks were required. In addition some landscaping bushes and pvc sprinkler pipes had to temporarily removed. Groundworks had informed me prior to starting work what would be required to successfully complete this project and had my full approval. The house is now level, the doors no longer swing on their own and the interior cracks between the walls and ceiling joints no longer exist. Prior to the crew leaving the yard was cleaned up and the pvc pipes replaced. Best of all Groundworks will come back annually to the next 5 years and make any necessary adjustments. The Groundworks crew that made this happen was Andrew, the site supervisor, Charlie and Allen. Their performance and daily communication was superior on all levels. This is part 2. The Groundworks Poly crew of Anthony & Brian were very fast and efficient in completing their part of the foundation repair contract which was to level our family room slab floor. Fast, yes, but Anthony did take the time to not only explain what they were going to do but also walked me through the process as they were working. I have no problem in recommending them & Groundworks to other home owners who need to have their foundation repaired.

I spent approximately $30,000 with Groundworks, and I deeply regret hiring them…read more I called Groundworks for one reason: contractors working on my floors noticed a slope and told me the beams underneath my house needed to be stabilized before they could continue. Groundworks assessed my crawl space and recommended a system they represented would address the problem. I relied on their expertise. That is the ONLY reason I agreed to spend approximately $30,000. When the project was about 80% complete, Groundworks suddenly told me I needed to call a carpenter. They did not explain that there was significant dry rot underneath my home or that the condition of the wood needed to be addressed before the work they were performing. I learned that later, after hiring an independent home inspector. By then, Groundworks had already been working throughout the same crawl space installing stabilization and encapsulation. My inspector identified significant dry rot and explained that it needed to be addressed first. Had I known that before Groundworks performed approximately $30,000 worth of work, I would NEVER have moved forward with their recommended system before addressing the underlying damage. And here is the worst part: THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED. The slope remains and appears to have increased since their work was completed. I am now facing additional repairs and expenses, and some of Groundworks' work may have to be undone or worked around to properly repair the underlying damage. The encapsulation has also been problematic. It was supposed to help keep my crawl space dry, but it was not properly secured, leaving openings that allowed rodents into my crawl space. I also later learned that the dehumidification equipment installed did not cover the entire crawl space as I understood it was supposed to. Then there is the customer service. Once they had my money, getting meaningful help became incredibly difficult. I have contacted corporate and have gone more than a month without a meaningful response. If Chris is assigned to your project, based on my experience, I would be extremely cautious. My advice before hiring Groundworks: GET AN INDEPENDENT INSPECTION FIRST. Do not rely solely on the assessment of the company selling you the system. Get everything in writing and ask specifically whether anything underneath your home needs to be repaired before their system is installed. I trusted Groundworks to identify the problem and recommend a solution. Approximately $30,000 later, my original problem remains, the slope appears worse, I discovered significant dry rot that should have been addressed first, I am facing additional repairs, the encapsulation allowed rodent access, and corporate has been unresponsive. I would NEVER recommend Groundworks based on my experience. $30,000 spent. Original problem unresolved. More repairs ahead. That speaks for itself.

They were willing to work with us on their proposal, and throughout the entire project they demonstrated honesty, integrity, and a commitment to doing things the right way. They use Ram Jack which was minimally invasive. They truly run their organization like a well-oiled machine. Our project manager, Brett Everling, was excellent. He kept us informed every step of the way, from the project planning to the city permits and construction schedule. Communication was outstanding, and everything proceeded exactly as promised (and even a little ahead of schedule). For a project of this size and complexity, it's remarkable that everything went so smoothly. The Foundation Solutions crew was punctual, hardworking, and incredibly diligent. They hand-dug the excavation areas, which was no small task, and they treated the property with care. The amount of concrete that needed to be removed was kept to a minimum, and the concrete repairs afterward were done nicely. We did have one issue with the sprinkler system after it was reassembled, but Foundation Solutions responded quickly and resolved it without hesitation. Their recommendation is also on par and we find that Brett is quite knowledgeable about the scope of work. He is also very patient, responsive and respectful throughout the estimating project while we took a long time to decide, a lot of follow ip questions and requests. Not once that I felt rushed, pushed or disrespected. The team kept me informed on the timeline of permit, project starting time, inspection and completion, everything was transparent. They passed inspection without problemsx Our foreman is Humberto who was polite, dependable and kept me well informed on the work they performed the day of, when they finished work and provided needed before and after pictures. I also find their pricing is reasonable compared to other companies that we interviewed with the experience that far exceeds their piers. Overall I had a good experience with the crew. They are polite and really didn't interfere with our life that much while they work. I would recommend them for all foundation repair needs. Be careful because lots of foundation companies will scam you, just because you will not be able to see what they did underneath your crawl space. The last foundation company came out to fix our house they made a bunch of noise for 2 weeks, said they are done and then we hired an independent inspector and confirmed they did nothing.
