When I first walked into this place, I was in line behind a woman who was bringing back an item (looked like drapes) covered in stains. She was explaining to the man behind the counter that this was the second time she had to bring this item back. The first time was because it wasn't cleaned properly and this second time because instead of cleaning it they somehow managed to get stains on it. I wish I had trusted my instincts and turned around and walked out.
I brought in several very nice items (including an only worn once cashmere sweater, silk blouses, silk pajama pants, etc.) because the location was close to my new flat. Huge mistake. I picked up my clothes a few days later; several items had holes in them, all of the clothing reeked of chemicals, and almost all of my clothes were ruined to the point I ended up donating them once the toxic fumes wore off. I was of course disappointed, so I took my clothes immediately back in and spoke with the manager/business owner. As another reviewer commented, my clothes were then taken hostage. They were taken behind the counter/separation while the incredibly rude and hostile owner (and his much quieter sidekick) proceeded to scream at me and do a tag team routine of accusing me of being in cahoots with a competitor dry cleaners (what?) and attempting to get free dry cleaning or some other ridiculous claim. Very obvious they had done this song and dance before with other customers. When I pointed out the very obvious noxious perc fumes being emitted from my clothing, he proceeded to tell me that it was "normal". Everybody knows that if clothing smells of perc after dry cleaning that said clothing was not dry cleaned properly. Moreover, I have been getting my clothing dry cleaned on a weekly basis for the past decade plus and have never A) returned to a dry cleaners to complain afterwards, B) smelled any chemicals on my clothing after dry cleaning was done or C) picked up clothing with holes (some massive) and clothing destroyed beyond repair.
The owner was pacing back and forth and would wander off to the back to rage out. He would wander back and was posturing/getting in my face so closely that I sort of had to back away. It was an incredibly odd and disturbing experience. I spent about $70 to have several hundred dollars worth of clothing destroyed. I'm an engineer at a large tech company and this clown was accusing me of conspiring against his business and trying to get free dry cleaning. My company offers dry cleaning for free. The only reason I brought my clothing to this dump was because it was open on the weekends. I had to argue with him to get him to release my clothing (which I had paid for already). As soon as another customer walked in, he tried to feign calmness. I realized it was impossible to have a civil and intelligent discussion with this person so I walked out.
Based on his erratic behaviour and responses to other legitimate reviews below, I am certain he will follow up to my review with a bizarre lie and insults.
Save yourself the hassle and go to any of the other hundreds of dry cleaners around. If you do find your clothing has been destroyed by Bay Cleaners, call your CC company and file a dispute. I was able to at least get refunded the nearly $70 I wasted here. My clothes are ruined but now I know better. Ladies, do not bring anything even remotely delicate to this place as it will surely be destroyed. read more
