My appointment was scheduled for June 19th at 8 AM and Michael did not show up. I waited two hours for him to show up before I called him. He forgot about my appointment. He was at another job. I was irritated but I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. I asked Michael to call me back that same day so we can reschedule the appointment. I never received a call back. It's been a week and still waiting for that call.... I do not recommend this business. Very unprofessional and unreliable. Please take your business elsewhere.

Joe and his team at JR's just completed a full tear-out and remodel of our kitchen, and the results…read morespeak for themselves. The scope of the project was extensive: all new semi custom cabinets, a new island, and new perimeter countertops, along with a complete replacement of our appliances some of which we wanted flush mounted (easier said than done). One of the trickier pieces was retrofitting a range hood, which added a fair amount of complexity to the install, but the team handled it without missing a beat. What really set this project apart was the level of coordination among everyone involved. Every craftsman on the job communicated clearly with one another, and just as importantly, Joe stayed in steady contact with my wife and me throughout the process. That kind of teamwork kept the project moving efficiently from start to finish, with minimal delays and no surprises. Even when we were out of town for part of the renovation, we never felt out of the loop as Joe sent regular updates with photos and progress notes, so we always knew exactly where things stood. The end result is a kitchen that's both beautifully finished and highly functional, and the process to get there was refreshingly smooth. If you're considering a kitchen remodel, don't hesitate to reach out to JR's, you'll be in good hands from demo day to final walkthrough.

This review is long overdue. This is a family owned business that offers comprehensive service…read more It's a father and 3 sons with mastery of both electrical and plumbing. They installed an EV wall charger, did electrical in the bathroom, installed hardwired ceiling smoke and CO detectors, kitchen under cabinet lights, electrical on the outside of my home, and 6 Panasonic ceiling fans with lights. They cleaned up after everyday which is very important. My current 5 star contractor left nails in the driveway and on my artificial turf which upset my wife immensely. We had another big project and their price was not competitive so we went to another 5 star Yelp contractor. The only issue that my wife had was when they installed the EV charger, they had to open up the drywall and did not patch and simply placed a blue painter tape on the rectangular hole. My current contractor will be patching the hole as a complimentary service. I requested for a Tesla Powerwall 3 installation and additional solar panels so I will update if they secured the bid or not.

After seeing some stone work at a friends in Lamorinda we were referred to Steve and Avon and the work didn't disappoint. They were 100% on target with the style, their bid (when was the last time you didn't have to do a change order?!) and their layout and leveling recommendations. Also, and very importantly, the crew was always on time, patient with parking challenges, gracious and open to engage. The lead onsite took detailed notes, and the team was methodical and diligent. We have them coming back for two more projects and would refer them first for stone and masonry work. Project: front retaining wall customer cut around coast live oak roots. Back path with steps and landing in pavers, pergola patio leveled and filled with cross hatch brick, back patio in pavers with customer cut edging for grass, brick retaining wall and leveling for new sod, hothbub pad and walls customer cut to fit tub, planter box in pavers. They nailed the whole thing. So good.

Brian, Holly, and Gerardo are the best…read more When I contacted them initially two years ago, within the first 10 minutes of talking they'd recognized that our house was not a simple brace & bolt project given its soft story and referred me to a structural engineer (who himself was excellent) for review/evaluation. I begin with this because that structural engineer mentioned he'd had Brian do his own retrofitting and highly recommended him, which was the only endorsement I needed. The scope of the work was soft story retrofit (incl. excavation at the front of the garage to install a Hardy frame, adding in shear walls with bolts, shear wall with URFP ties all along the house's perimeter) as well as adding in anchors (e.g., hand dug piers, rebar, concrete) in the front and back of the house to prevent the house from further sinking. We initially applied for and got into the ESS program, which Brian/Holly guided us through (pulling permits, getting photos, contacting our engineer for letters/responses on ESS program follow-ups). As in the first time and every subsequent time, they were swift and helpful in responding. ESS, if you don't know (like I didn't), goes through FEMA and requires FEMA review and approval of your plans at each step of the way, but the whole program came to a standstill in 2025-26. We had no updates despite us and Brian/Holly repeatedly following up. We gave up on ESS in April and decided to move ahead with the retrofit. Brian was able to work us into his schedule and work began early May and work was completed in just a little over two weeks, a full week faster than I expected. The whole time Brian/Holly kept us apprised of the status, schedule, and inspections; and forwarded us all documentation and pictures as they came up. The crew was efficient and detailed and did thorough clean ups of the worksite after each day. We felt in control and informed the whole time and are confident in the result; I'd hire them again in a heartbeat.

Their bid was in line with the other bids we received, and we ultimately chose them because of their years of experience doing this type of work and their excellent reviews. Throughout the process, Brian and Holly were prompt and helpful whenever we had questions. They also handled the paperwork for an EBB grant that covered part of the cost, as well as the forms needed for our earthquake insurance reduction, which made the process much easier for us. Jordan and his crew were all polite, hardworking, and respectful of our home, and they did a great job cleaning up after the work was completed. I'm not really qualified to evaluate the technical aspects of the retrofit itself, but the work passed inspection, which gave us confidence that it was done properly. Overall, we're very happy with the experience and would definitely recommend them to anyone considering an earthquake retrofit.
