This is overdue! I went skydiving on the 4th of July. I'm not the crazy daredevil/ adrenaline junkie type at all. From the moment I stepped in I felt welcomed, everyone was very informative and super helpful. I was very fortunate that I got Toshi as my instructor, seeing as how I never did this. He had over 2,000 jumps, more than that he was very professional and funny. All of them were, when hearing snippets of other conversations. Decided to go skydiving for the first time with my boyfriend for his birthday this weekend, and after googling and yelping decided to go to Bay Area Skydiving. Our reservation was at 2PM, they informed us they were running behind so our adventure didn't begin until around 4PM. My instructor was Gareth and my boyfriends went by the name Mad John. They were both really experienced and when suiting us up they gave us the low down on everything and anything we wanted to know. All the staff members there were awesome, all very friendly and helpful. We both decided to get the still photos and the pictures turned out GREAT. And to top of this experience, when we were in the plane everyone sang a pretty funny birthday song to my boyfriend. All in all we had a crazy good time, worth every penny we spent. I highly recommend this place, just be aware you're probably going to have to spend a little time waiting before...but in the end its all worth it! read more

I jumped here in 2006. For my 70th birthday I decided to do it again. Seven friends joined me in the air and 30 were on the ground to cheer us in. We were in separate planes, the instructors were terrific, the video was great and the experience was better than the first time. This is not a sport for the feint of heart. You do not jump out of an airplane - you fall! And it is amazing. It is spectacular. There is nothing like it. Thank you to Adam Myers, my instructor. And a special nod to the young man who signed us in. He had a smile, he was patient, he answered crazy, insane questions and made everything easy. This is 100 percent as good as it gets! First off, I'm afraid of heights and not afraid to admit it. So yeah....it ain't happenin' for me. Call me a wuss, but I just can't embrace the fact that I would have to JUMP OUT OF A PERFECTLY FUNCTIONING PLANE just for the thrill of it. Not only that.....but have to pay $320 to do it!!! (cuz you know you also gotta buy the video to prove you did it) My boyfriend had always told me he wanted to skydive. So for a memorable birthday gift, I treated him to his first skydiving experience with this company. He absolutely LOVED it. So 5 stars to Bay Area Skydiving for returning my BF safe, sound and ALIVE. From beginning to end, his instructor and camera man were so cool, laid-back, and professional! It was worth every penny. The only small comment I have was the long time we had to wait til' he jumped. There were several groups ahead of him even though he had his time reserved. I guess we went during a high-peak (jumping) season, because we returned for his 2nd jump last week and the wait went MUCH quicker this time. If I were ever to even think about jumping, I would definitely trust these guys for a fun and safe experience. read more

Went on June 10th with my maid of honor for a bachelorette jump! Had such a good time! Although they warn about possibility of a long wait, for us it was just a warning, we were taken in not too long after we watched the necessary video and suited up. I personally went up without any other jumpers in a smaller plane and I didn't mind at all. The first flip in the air out of the plane and 30 second free fall are so exhilarating and the next few minutes with the chute open where you get to take a Birdseye gaze at the land is incredible. Everyone should do this at least once and Bay Area skydive is a very chill place to do it! read more

One of our friends wanted to go Sky Diving for her 60th Birthday and about a year ago my wife said she would go with her. So this past weekend was put up or shut up time and the both "put up"! I went along for moral support and we arrived at 10 a.m. per our appointment, they ladies watched a video, signed their lives away and paid the fees, plus both decided to get the video. The Tandem guides came over, introduced themselves, helped them get suited up and answered any questions while the video guys filmed away. By 11:15 a.m. they were in the plane on their way up. About 20 minutes later out they came, first the solo jumpers and then the tandem jumpers and the video guys. Both loved their dives, the 60 year old landed, got up and said she was doing it again, right now, while my wife, in her 30's was a bit weak in the knees and sat out the second jump. We cannot say enough great things about the staff here, they made everyone at ease, were professional, yet very fun and did a great job and made this a day that will not be forgotten. The video's came out nice, they "slow" down the jump part in post production, which only took a few minutes and added songs of your choice to it. Not many words needed. Took my AFF class (teachers are awesome!) last Saturday and did my first jump. Got home, dreamt about it, and woke up at 7am Sunday to get back after it for my B-certification and been dreaming about it ever since. Beautiful drive out there from the city and the vibe is real mellow. Everyone is super friendly and encouraging and the smiles are contagious. I had Mad Jon and Mark for my first AFF jump and Clay and Marcel for my B. All of them were f**king awesome. Chill, down to earth, knowledgeable, extremely safety conscious, patient, and ear to ear smiles. What more can you ask for other than some eye candy around the DZ...oh ya there's some of that too! From start to finish these guys and gals were so friendly and cool, I felt totally at ease with my tandem jump and thoroughly enjoyed it! The photos and video were amazing, a really great keepsake that are still making me smile two days later. If I decide to keep going and train to jump solo then I'll go back here to do it definitely. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the comments made to a girl by her tandem instructor while on the plane.... i.e. sexual comments about being strapped to a guy. She looked uncomfortable. PLUS her dad was right there!!! I felt bad for her and her dad. I think more tact should have been used. The other instructors were GREAT though! This place is good. I cannot compare it to any other skydiving venue, but the experience created by all aspects of the venue made it fun. WHAT I DID: Tandem Skydived with 2 other family members. Bought the photos. My tandem "maneuverer" made it alright and avoided all uncomfortable aspects to be strapped to him. We skydived with with Tandemized father and brother from 13000 feet, fell about a minute to 6000 feet, where we deployed parachutes from there. The fall was awesome(very momentary though). I was separated from my family(but that has to happen for safety reasons) but had an awesome view coming down( its near the windmills on the altamount pass). The landing was great, it was like descending from a google maps satellite picture to the actual ground. FINAL THOUGHTS: I wish I could have done it by myself. I personally wanted to have that type of experience where it was me who pulled the parachute.(You can get that as a first time experience here as well) IF YOU GO: Don't even consider bringing the camera, or buying their camera option. The fall passes so fast. You don't want to look back on pictures where you were to busy taking them to actually appreciate the moment. read more

i've always believed you gotta try everything at least once, so, of course, skydiving was on my list! unfortunately, i was hesitant to go b/c of the expense but my good friend andy h (who hasn't written one yelp review yet - nudge nudge!) treated and we had an amazing time. kinda in the middle of nowhere but pretty fast to get to from berkeley. everyone was really friendly and helpful - had a real family / hang out feel to it. we went on a weekday and the other people jumping with us were regulars so they didn't really spend too much time on the safety stuff - we just hopped in the plane and then hopped out! the view it awesome and the instructors were great. i'd do it again... just wish it wasn't so expensive. read more

I'm writing this review for my boyfriend whom had skydived with Bay Area Skydiving yesterday for his birthday. Our appointment was 1PM but arrived an hour early. I asked if skydiving early is possible, and they said "sure, can I get your name." In a way that it's not a direct answer to my question, and so we assumed that we could, but we waited an hour and 30 minutes and we grew restless. Then finally my boyfriend's name was called and went to do what we came here to do. I think it was misinformation and what was really happening is that we were suppose to wait for our assigned appointment at 1PM. But overall, my boyfriend said it was one of the most amazing experience he had done. The service was very good too. Even when I wasn't sky diving, I was given great conversation about persuading me to get on the plan with him. I think it's cute and wasn't pushy at all. Everyone was helpful, fun, and nice. As long as my boyfriend had fun, then I'm good for the wait time. read more

This place is AWESOME!!!! For all you first timers out there....this is the place to go! I went this past sunday (FATHERS DAY) for my birthday and OMG, it was incredible! It was an experience like no other. The instructors made me feel so safe, which is very important, and comfortable! I had Garrett, who was my instructor, and he was very funny and tried (and yes I said TRIED) to make me feel as comfortable as he could, by cracking jokes during instruction, showing me landmarks in the plane and while we were parachuting. He even let me steer the parachute and while we were gliding up there, he even did some aerobatics (i don't know if that's the right terminology), which kinda freaked me out, but it was fun! I also had Jason, who was the camera guy and he was great also. I just felt bad because I think I was giving him the cold shoulder the whole time and it showed on the video. I think I was just so scared and shocked at the time, thinking why the hell am I doing this! I thought I was going to SHIT my pants, but I didn't. THANK GOD! But, I am here and alive, which is the best part! I would totally do it again and I think everyone has to experience skydiving at least once in their life time! This is the place in the bay area to go skydiving. Friendly and the safest place around. I received my training and licensing here years ago. It was just my daughter's graduation and I took here and seven graduating friends for a day of skydiving. They all loved it! Afterwards everyone said they thought their tandem instructors really knew what they were doing. After just returning to skydivong after sole tell off, you can still feel the Byron Love great vibes from this place. Bring some food as the facilities and local ears are sparse. My husband and I purchased a skydiving package for our son for his 18th birthday. I had huge reservations and was so scared that something would go wrong. Once we were there, I saw that Bay Area Skydiving was a well-oiled machine. What a group of organized, competent people! So I watched the instructors go up and land a few times waiting for my son's turn-they were graceful and made it look easy and fun. I ended up paying for a skydive for myself that day AND my 68 year old mother-in-law bought one too!!! My son, my mother-in-law and I jumped tandem-it was awesome! Total rush of adrenaline!! I recommend Bay Area Skydiving for anyone interested in jumping out of a completely functional airplane. Pay the few extra dollars for the video/photo package- you want to show your friends how incredibly brave you are!!! Instructor Bruce is phenomenal while he joked the whole time. This place is better than I thought, even though there are tons of dog so and I am super scared of dogs. I got there at around 9ish, and it took me around an hour to get onto the plane. Nothing much I would complain about, just that the camera man was a little disappointing. I will suggest that if This is your first time skydiving and you are expecting to take a good set of pictures home. This place was GREAT. July 12 is a big day for 4 particular people: My best friend and I share that as our birthday, and my friend's aunt and uncle share that as a wedding anniversary. So to celebrate our 25th birthday and their 10-year-anniversary, we came here! We all jumped in tandem, got photos and videos, had a big group of friends and family watching, and had SO MUCH FUN. The guys that jump with you are totally cool and know that first-time jumpers can be a little freaked out, but they walk you through it as they strap you in and tell you what to do, so it's all good! Plus you're jumping in tandem, so there isn't much you have to worry about except to make faces for the video while you're going down. So if you're going to do it, do it here! read more

I bought myself and my boyfriend jump tickets for our anniversary. I had jumped once before 10 years ago, and he was a first-timer, but for some reason, I was more afraid than him! Once we got to Bay Area Skydiving, I started to feel better- excited. The place had great energy and vibes, everyone was smiling, super friendly, and clearly happy to be there. Many instructers and staff brought their dogs, which made me feel less anxious and made everything feel fun and safe. The instructors were both professional and relaxed - I felt safe admitting I was nervous, and my tandem instructer. Cam (he's wonderful!) kept checking in with me, asking me how I felt, to which I kept replying "nervous." He was empathetic rather than patronizing, which made me feel so much better. They went over the instructions and positions for jumping multiple times and performed multiple safety checks on the gear. These guys are thorough but not stressed - it's a perfect combination. And the jump - man, it was so beautiful! Green as far as the eye can see, a minute of free fall, and I was able to steer the parachute! It was incredible. I'm so glad we chose Bay Area Skydiving, and I'm so glad I went for it! Only after this jump did I realize how unsafe my first experience was - my best advice is to do your research, listen to reviews, and go with your gut, but I also highly recommend Bay Area Skydiving - it was perfect! I'd never been skydiving before, and I expected it to be fun, but I didn't expect the whole experience to be so amazing. Yet, it was! We arrived at our reserved time and signed the usual waivers, waited for our turn, and then met our instructors and got our gear on. Doesn't sound exciting, but the staff is so friendly and enthusiastic about what they do that we couldn't help but get swept away by their attitudes. The skydive itself was awesome and completely cool. I advise that you add on the DVD and/or still photos when you sign up, especially if this is your first rodeo. Once in the air, I don't think I could have made myself leave the aircraft on my own and was happy to leave that to my expert instructor. This was such a thrilling thing to do. Free falling thousands of feet above the ground was indescribable and something I'll never forget. Once our chute was deployed, it was so quiet and fun to look around. Went for my first AFF CAT A jump a few weeks ago and I really screwed up because the instructor threw out a hand signal that ground school never taught us. He used 3 fingers instead of a fist for the practice pull signal (it kind of looked like COA signal because of the way he was holding his hand). The rest of the fall kind of fell apart because I got so hung up on this. The free fall went by way faster than I thought it would and before I knew it, my other instructor pulled my chute for me. It really emphasized the importance of hand signals because it's so hard to focus during your first jump because of the new sensory overload & adrenaline rush. I like the guy though and I felt completely safe during the jump even though it didn't go smoothly. Kind of pissed me off that this happened to me though. The same thing happened to my friend Nicholas who got this instructor for his CAT B jump. I still think this place is cool and everyone here is super nice but make sure you and your instructors have the same hand signals in mind before you jump for the first time. It was also suggested that I do a working-tandem jump in order to get over the sensory overload sensation, which sounds like a good idea. read more

I really recommend this package because you get to rewatch/look back on the whole experience from beginning to end. Clay took my video and photos. He's awesome and makes the experience a lot more fun & relaxing. My instructor was Andre- he was funny & great, too. You can tell these guys are pros and have been doing this for a long time. All the staff here is friendly & helpful. After our jump, they show you the video and put it on a USB drive so make sure to bring one if you get this package! I was a first-time tandem jumper today, and I was paired with Adam as my instructor. He kept conversation light and fun to ease the anxiety and when it came time to jump, I felt like I was in experienced hands. As you might expect, the scariest part was the anticipation of jumping out of the plane. After about 5 seconds you get over the shock of what you've just done and the fun kicks in. If you've always wanted to do it, then go for it! And this is a great company to do it with. Tips: 1. On the day of your jump, call and see if they are sending jumpers up. If there are high winds or dense fog, they won't send anyone up. They say mid-day is usually the best time to jump as the fog burns-off and that the winds tend to die down a bit by then (I jumped at 11am). It's about a 140 mile round trip drive from SF, so better check before driving all the way out there and waiting around for hours waiting to see if conditions will improve. 2. It gets HOT out there. Other skydiving facilities say to wear long pants. For this location, you can wear shorts because they're going to give you a jumpsuit to pull on over your clothes anyway. 3. Ladies, be sure to have hair ties with you. Even with my hair pulled back, the excessive winds pulled some of it free and I had the worst snarls. It would've been terrible if all my hair had been like that. read more
