Beware‼‼ Some kind of scam Bought on their website through Yelp intro lesson as a surprise present for my husband, later I called to confirm the time and date, did not send any confirmation. They said that their pilot will call. A pilot called asking about my U.S citizenship and later offered illegal schemes for exchanging flights for weed. I do not know is it a new way of scammers but I am freaking out because their pilot keeps calling and harassing me. I took an introductory flight with Binh today and it was great! From the time I booked my flight, Binh was responsive and very pleasant to deal with. She made me feel at ease when we met and judging by how meticulously she inspected the plane before we boarded, I knew I was in good hands. We flew a C152 and though it was a little windy, we had a nice ride over the bay. Got some nice views of Sausalito, TI, downtown SF, Alcatraz and GG bridge. I booked a discovery flight as a birthday gift specifically because online reviews showed California Airways for providing a hands-on flying experience. We were assigned to Binh to be our instructor. I clearly communicated that this was my priority and that I was willing to reschedule for better conditions. Despite this, we were only told that it "might be windy," without any indication that this would drastically reduce the experience to less than 5 minutes of actual hands-on flying (advertised around 30 minutes) during a ~45-minute session. Had this been communicated clearly, we would not have proceeded and would have rescheduled without hesitation. What we received was not a true discovery flight--it was essentially a sightseeing ride with minimal participation. While I respect safety decisions, proceeding without offering a reschedule despite knowing the experience would be significantly limited is not acceptable. For a ~$200 experience, this falls far short of what was advertised and reasonably expected. read more

I bought this class as an experience to something new, daring and fun; and it did not fall short. Our instructor was Allie, she did such an amazing job at answering all our questions , "what ifs" and everything in between. There are simply not enough words to convey how amazing this experience was. I bought the intro flight lesson as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend and we waited until now (late May) to use it so that we would hopefully have good weather. And it worked!! Quincy was our instructor for today and was not only an amazing instructor but also an amazing human. My boyfriend (Armando) was able to fly with confidence because of Quincy. And I, the passenger in the backseat, felt comfortable and safe. We circled the bay area and saw views like the bay bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the city skyline. We chose to land in Livermore to have lunch at the Elevation LTK restaurant, which Quincy recommended. But there were other options in San Carlos and Half Moon Bay. Bought this as a gift for my partner and it was a really cool experience! When we walked in there was some confusion on what to do and where to wait with the front desk but it was also just a bit crowded that time. Our instructor Malek was really friendly and knowledgeable which made the experience better. He also let us choose where to fly to and was able to accommodate our request of flying over my partner's parents' house (via google maps haha) for them to see! One thing to note is that if you want to see the golden gate bridge and north bay, be sure to choose a sunny day in SF! We could only see a little before clouds/fog rolled in but it was expected since we chose a cloudy day. South of SF was clear and had great views tho! I was lucky enough to complete my private pilot certificate with Cal Air and CFI Dauren recently and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Availability of aircraft is simply leagues ahead of what other east bay clubs could offer, and Dauren was proactive in finding times that worked for both of us. The quality of instruction and preparation was top notch, even as a part 61 student I was following a clear and consistent curriculum and received phase checks with other instructors along the way. When it came time for my check ride there were no surprises and I felt comfortable with what to expect. The Cal Air community is thriving, every time I came in I would talk to other students or instructors while picking up keys or on the ramp. I purchased a Groupon because flying is expensive and I'm a saver at heart. I was disappointed when I heard that their students don't get paid for Groupon bookings which sounds illegal. I had a great experience flying with California airways besides learning that their instructors are not compensated fairly with coupons flights. The booklet to log flight hours was also an extra charge that was falsely advertised as $12 but was actually $16. My review does not reflect the amazing efforts of my flight instructor, but the school it self which I'd be hesitant to choose based off that. Cal Air helped me finish out my PPL. Great having multiple aircraft and proactive instructors. They would figure out what my schedule was, block out their own times and the aircraft, accounting for instrumentation and maintenance.
