Took an Introductory flight here and we had such a wonderful experience from start to finish. Our instructor was Binh, and she was an absolute gem. From start to finish she has been so incredibly kind, warm, and welcoming and made something that was pretty nerve wracking feel way more comfortable and fun. We had to reschedule our flight a couple times because of getting sick and weather, but she was very accommodating. She made it her priority that we got the most fun and safe experience that she could :) She did a very good job of walking me through what to do and was really patient with me and took the time to explain parts in depth when I was unsure about someone. She allowed me to take the lead when I was feeling confident but whenever I would start to get confused or too nervous being patient and helping me through those moments. Also I appreciate her reassuring me when she could tell I was getting nervous at certain points lol helped me feel a lot calmer. The entire time she always made sure we felt completely safe with her. This was something that's been on my bucket list for a really long time and it did not disappoint would highly recommend both the experience itself and the instructor! Also, I'm not sure if she meant to do this, but I think the experience cured my fear heights so that was a bonus lol! Definitely would highly recommend!!! So much fun! It's a memory we'll never forget! read more

AMAZING, MEMORABLE, UNBELIEVABLE FUN! Thank you to my awesome instructor Binh. She made this experience so enjoyable. She has a soft tone and won't make you feel stupid for asking questions. Her kindness and how she handled my very FIRST flight lesson made me feel so comfortable and most importantly CONFIDENT. I will recommend California Airways shouting from the rooftops! The other instructors I met were also equally awesome and cool! I can't wait to come back over and over and over again. Thank you so much read more

Beware‼‼ Some kind of scam Bought on their website through Yelp intro lesson as a surprise present for my husband, later I called to confirm the time and date, did not send any confirmation. They said that their pilot will call. A pilot called asking about my U.S citizenship and later offered illegal schemes for exchanging flights for weed. I do not know is it a new way of scammers but I am freaking out because their pilot keeps calling and harassing me. I blocked number but I left my address, full name and phone number on their website so I am terrified. I am this close to calling police. read more

I took an introductory flight with Binh today and it was great! From the time I booked my flight, Binh was responsive and very pleasant to deal with. She made me feel at ease when we met and judging by how meticulously she inspected the plane before we boarded, I knew I was in good hands. We flew a C152 and though it was a little windy, we had a nice ride over the bay. Got some nice views of Sausalito, TI, downtown SF, Alcatraz and GG bridge. Binh let me fly for a while and she was so good at giving instructions. Looking forward to learning from her and flying with her again. Thanks, Binh! read more

Hands down such an amazing experience. This was such an incredible alternative to your standard birthday gift in a box. I bought this class as an experience to something new, daring and fun; and it did not fall short. Our instructor was Allie, she did such an amazing job at answering all our questions , "what ifs" and everything in between. She really took her time to explain how everything in the plane works and came off as very confident in her like of work (which is deeply necessary given that you will be flying the plane for the first time with her). Thank you Allie for the tour of the bay! It will be something we remember forever! read more

Bad customer service ! Bait and switch! Asked for discorvery flight and they told me it would be 1 hr and now they switched and said it's 45min: it would be cheaper to book the plane and cfi separately- discover flights should be incentivized! I guess what did you expect these folks are in Hayward, hard pass! read more

Everything was perfect, first time trying it, Allie was really nice, she explain me everything, give me options for the flight and she let me fly most of the time(of course not the time she was talking with the tower control) what a beautiful views and she let me fly over the golden gate was so nice. I really recommend it 1000%. read more

I booked a discovery flight as a birthday gift specifically because online reviews showed California Airways for providing a hands-on flying experience. We were assigned to Binh to be our instructor. I clearly communicated that this was my priority and that I was willing to reschedule for better conditions. Despite this, we were only told that it "might be windy," without any indication that this would drastically reduce the experience to less than 5 minutes of actual hands-on flying (advertised around 30 minutes) during a ~45-minute session. Had this been communicated clearly, we would not have proceeded and would have rescheduled without hesitation. What we received was not a true discovery flight--it was essentially a sightseeing ride with minimal participation. While I respect safety decisions, proceeding without offering a reschedule despite knowing the experience would be significantly limited is not acceptable. For a ~$200 experience, this falls far short of what was advertised and reasonably expected. read more

After YEARS of pushing off my discovery flight I finally did it. And on international women's day I honestly have no idea how I'm supposed to go back to my 9-5 job on Tuesday after this incredible experience. Quincy was the icing on top of the cake. So thankful to California Airways and to my son's instructor Quincy!! The journey has been amazing for us as parents to watch our son fly his first solo at age 16 and soon get his private pilot license at age 17!! If you plan on learning to fly or enrolling someone to fly, you not only want a good instructor but a GOOD MENTOR. When we first stepped into California Airways, Quincy took my son under his wing and mentored him. My son went from a flight simulator enthusiast to a student pilot doing cross country flights!! To celebrate my son's first solo landing, Quincy was kind enough to have airport staff come out with sparkling apple cider and drinking glasses to make the event memorable. I also, love how he both challenges my son in the air and on his ground school material. Quincy values excellence and it shows. Quincy's impact extends beyond the technical and has helped our son understand pilot etiquette and presentation. Quincy's mentorship and impact even helped my son win a $15k aviation scholarship with the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos. California Airways is an amazing school with amazing people. If you'e looking for "that guy", Quincy is it!! read more

We recently visited California Always for the Introductory flight Lesson and the experience was very memorable. The instructor assigned was Quincy. He was an awesome instructor, very clear with his instructions, and provided ample hands on time with the flights controls. There were several surprises during the flight which were exhilarating. The outcome was exactly as I had hoped for and am very grateful to be part of it, even as a passenger. If anyone is looking to be a pilot, I would highly recommend this place and live their dream. read more

There are simply not enough words to convey how amazing this experience was. I bought the intro flight lesson as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend and we waited until now (late May) to use it so that we would hopefully have good weather. And it worked!! Quincy was our instructor for today and was not only an amazing instructor but also an amazing human. My boyfriend (Armando) was able to fly with confidence because of Quincy. And I, the passenger in the backseat, felt comfortable and safe. We circled the bay area and saw views like the bay bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the city skyline. We chose to land in Livermore to have lunch at the Elevation LTK restaurant, which Quincy recommended. But there were other options in San Carlos and Half Moon Bay. At the restaurant, we literally pulled the plane up, parked, and ate lunch together. What made the experience great was how excited and passionate Quincy was about flying. It was very inspiring, and we had a great time because of it. Armando is excited to continue pursuing flight lessons when time allows. We will definitely be back one day!! Thank you Quincy, we truly appreciate you. read more

I was hesitant to try flying but it was always something that I was interested in and I reached out to Lance to book an introductory flight lesson, and it was the best decision I could ever make. Lance was the perfect instructor and made me feel that I was capable of flying a plane when I had never done so. The views of the Golden Gate bridge and Alcatraz were amazing. I look forward to continuing my path to being a pilot due to this experience. read more

Bought this as a gift for my partner and it was a really cool experience! When we walked in there was some confusion on what to do and where to wait with the front desk but it was also just a bit crowded that time. Our instructor Malek was really friendly and knowledgeable which made the experience better. He also let us choose where to fly to and was able to accommodate our request of flying over my partner's parents' house (via google maps haha) for them to see! One thing to note is that if you want to see the golden gate bridge and north bay, be sure to choose a sunny day in SF! We could only see a little before clouds/fog rolled in but it was expected since we chose a cloudy day. South of SF was clear and had great views tho! Definitely a great gift for someone adventurous and interested in becoming a pilot! read more

I was lucky enough to complete my private pilot certificate with Cal Air and CFI Dauren recently and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Availability of aircraft is simply leagues ahead of what other east bay clubs could offer, and Dauren was proactive in finding times that worked for both of us. The quality of instruction and preparation was top notch, even as a part 61 student I was following a clear and consistent curriculum and received phase checks with other instructors along the way. When it came time for my check ride there were no surprises and I felt comfortable with what to expect. The Cal Air community is thriving, every time I came in I would talk to other students or instructors while picking up keys or on the ramp. The office is full of interesting people always willing to have a conversation and share their experiences in aviation. read more

I purchased a Groupon because flying is expensive and I'm a saver at heart. I was disappointed when I heard that their students don't get paid for Groupon bookings which sounds illegal. I had a great experience flying with California airways besides learning that their instructors are not compensated fairly with coupons flights. The booklet to log flight hours was also an extra charge that was falsely advertised as $12 but was actually $16. My review does not reflect the amazing efforts of my flight instructor, but the school it self which I'd be hesitant to choose based off that. I'm all about being compensated fairly and if that's true, I hope they reevaluate that system. read more

Amazing experience with Brandon!!! He was really kind and courteous! Made sure I understood everything and answered all questions to make sure I was comfortable with was happening. If you're second guessing the experience, don't! I purchased the intro flight for my boyfriend's birthday and it was probably one of the best experiences he's had! Our flight instructor, Zaki was so patient and informative. He made sure all of our questions were answered and reassured we were okay throughout the entire experience. We took off in Hayward, flew towards the bay bridge, into Sausalito/Tiburon (Golden Gate Bridge was completely invisible from the fog unfortunately), over downtown SF, descended at SFO airport and crossed over the San Mateo bridge to land back in Hayward. The overall experience lasted almost 2 hours from appointment check-in to flight landing and about $200+ dollars with me being the plus 1. read more

Cal Air helped me finish out my PPL. Great having multiple aircraft and proactive instructors. They would figure out what my schedule was, block out their own times and the aircraft, accounting for instrumentation and maintenance. Even as a part 61 student I got a lot of the better preparation a 141 student would get. Passed my checkride June of 2019 Hayward airport is also a little less busy and little friendlier environment than a lot of local airports. read more
