The fleet!
Sergei J.

I've been training at Pacific States Aviation for over two years now and have over 150 flight hours. I never had any negative experience with them. PSA team and instructors are certified professionals who strive to provide the best training possible and expect you to do your best on your lessons and fly up to standards. But don't worry because they will guide you every step of the way in order for you to get to that level. They have multiple planes that you can pick for your lesson and you can also pick an instructor that works best for you based on your schedule. I already had two instructors, Karim Saleh and Shaun Baker and both of my instructors already went to airlines! Karim Saleh had a student who is now an instructor at PSA and his name is Michael Hull. So if you want to have a professional, knowledgeable, chill and understand instructor to guide you towards your goals, Michael is the guy to go to! Another thing to know is that if you're going to be a new student at PSA, make sure you understand the PSA policies and rates and what is required of you as a student before you begin your training. Do your research and understand that some planes will go into maintenance when they reach 100 hours or a flight can be cancelled due to unexpected bad weather. COMMUNICATION is the key! You have to know how the school works and you have to know yourself and what you really need and want from the school because the school and your instructor would work with you directly to provide you the best experience possible. So, like I said above, I've never had a bad experience with PSA. I like how they send me an invoice after each lesson so I can see exactly what I'm paying for and that helped me to find a balance between school, work and personal life and that's why I'm taking my sweet time with my training. I'm basically doing it at my own pace and enjoying it. Of course there are a fast pace programs that the school provides and besides a private pilot license, you can also get your instrument rating, multi engine and commercial license with PSA. You can always talk to the main office or your instructor if you want to learn more. It's been great! Looking forward to continue my training at Pacific States Aviation Academy!

The day I became a more rounded pilot getting my instrument rating to add to my skillset

Pacific State Aviation is really one of the best flight schools around. I have had some of the most encouraging instruction and experiences as I pursue my career in aviation. So far I've completed my instrument rating and currently am pursuing my commercial rating with Michael Hull and hopefully soon will have that under my belt I appreciate the flexibility of my instructors to work with me around my schedule and how they push me to do better each time I go up always striving for perfection thanks PSA and thanks to all their wonderful and friendly staff who are helping me along

Did an intro flight at PSA with instructor Sean Lee around Bay Area. I got to see the Golden Gate Bridge, the Alcatraz Island and the city. It is unlike the view from anywhere else. The city feels different from above! Other than the eye opening views, the overall experience feIt very safe, instructor Lee is knowledgeable and explained everything to me before executing it. I asked way too many questions and he patiently answered them all. I even asked him if I can take over and fly a little for fun (I have 0 flight experience) and I can't believe he said yes! I flew the plane for a minute or so under his supervision and can now check that off of my bucket list (: The landing and departure was also great. There were no "bouncing" during the landing that I sometimes would feel flying on airline planes. Great experience and highly recommend!

I have been learning to fly at PSA with Wade, he has been great, above and beyond on every level, really patient and friendly. Everyone at the front desk is kind and are there to set you up for success. Is definitely quite challenging to remember everything but I feel more confident every week. Is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for!

WOW, JUST WOW! Mike Corclan at Sterling Aviation is SOOOO AWESOME! I wanted to surprise my…read moreboyfriend for our 2 year anniversary with a flight since he's been constantly talking about getting his pilot's license. I called a couple places which quoted me high prices and had bad customer service. When I called Sterling, they transferred me to Mike who was SO helpful and flexible. We talked a little about my boyfriend getting his pilot's license and what it would take. Mike suggested trying an intro lesson first to make sure my boyfriend actually liked being behind the wheel. We scheduled the lesson with ease but before I hung up, I asked if there was anything bigger we could do... maybe fly to Half Moon Bay? He thought it was a great idea for a gift and even suggested we stop in HMB to have dinner! I told him I would think about it and he gave me his personal cell number to follow up. After a couple hours, I couldn't stop thinking about it and text him. He replied saying we could do the HMB trip and gave me all the details. Fast forward a month and I'm finally surprising my boyfriend on our anniversary. The night before, I text Mike making sure we were still on and he confirmed. Then, the next morning I get a text from him saying that the weather wasn't looking too well and that he would keep me updated. He text me constantly through the day to give me updates and made sure we planned ahead. I ended up bringing my boyfriend there anyways to make sure we could get an up-to-date forecast for our trip. When we arrived @ Sterling, Mike was super friendly and wished us happy anniversary. He even bought us a bottle of champagne to celebrate- how SWEET is that?!?! Eventually we couldn't go on the flight but we easily rescheduled with Mike. He was checking the weather constantly to make sure there was no way of going. While we were waiting, he gave us ALL the info needed to get your pilots license. Once we found out we couldn't go, he taught my boyfriend in the stimulator for 45 minutes at no extra cost which I thought was SO sweet. My boyfriend had a great time and can't stop talking about going back! Everyone at Sterling was so friendly and helpful and I'd highly recommend them for an intro lesson or for even getting your pilots license!

I am not a pilot, so I just came to experience aerobatics. The first few simple maneuvers (roll and loop) were somewhat comparable to a good roller coaster (e.g. Flight deck at Great America). But having experienced that with a huge grin on my face Mark took it up a notch, ... and another, and another, and another ... Each step he checked with me to make sure I wanted more. In the end, after a wild combination of twists and turns that had me completely disoriented, I did start to feel a bit queasy. But at that point my time was up, and Mark had already announced that it would be the last trick. At no point did I feel unsafe, Mark most definitely knows what he is doing. Add to that that his airplane (extra 300) is 100% build for aerobatics. Yes, with a Stearman you can do tricks too, but if you want the real deal it doesn't compare. That said, the real deal is not for the faint of heart, but Mark would stop at whatever level you are comfortable. All in all an absolutely awesome experience.

But that morning, he cancelled last minute without cause. The weather was beautiful, not just visually, but all the metrics on Foreflight. Gorgeous day for a flight. No refund, even when he cancels, and without cause. We had a year to use the booking. It took the better part of that year to find a gap in work and travels. I reached out with a few months left, but I have not heard back from Mark, even with follow ups. Total silence. In essence, we prepaid for a flight, he cancelled without cause, and he has been radio silent to reschedule. It has felt like a total scam. Buyer beware.

She made it her priority that we got the most fun and safe experience that she could :) She did a very good job of walking me through what to do and was really patient with me and took the time to explain parts in depth when I was unsure about someone. She allowed me to take the lead when I was feeling confident but whenever I would start to get confused or too nervous being patient and helping me through those moments. (I was attracted to the enhanced safety of a whole-plane parachute.) Boy was I in for a re-education! Patrick has been phenomenal! A true professional. And I now call him a friend. So much has changed since 2003, I don't know where to start. I went through Cirrus Transition Training in his SR-20 (N150SA) and gained more confidence and professionalism than I've ever had (and that's saying something since my last airplane was a highly-modified Cessna P210N - not exactly a walk-in-the-park to fly). I recently purchased my own SR-22 (with help from Patrick and team) and couldn't be happier. Flying airplanes safely and professionally requires dedication, training and introspection. It's thrilling, fulfilling and humbling all at the same time. I can think of no better mentor than Patrick and the team at Scanlon Aviation.

I've seen some pretty long-in-the-tooth rental aircraft at other local airports. Rates are fair both for rental and instructors. You spend a little less on the hobbs flying out of O69 as opposed to towered airports due to less taxi distance required, closer practice area, and less waiting for other traffic to clear. Overall I've gotten the impression PPTC is a professional outfit with a high standard for their aircraft.
