There were a few other lumber yards I could have chosen from, but none of them matched the quality of materials or the level of customer service I found here. What always stood out to me was how the business was run--there was pride in the work, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to customers. Over time, I watched other yards come and go, but OK Lumber remained. Even after the original owner retired, it's great to see the family carry on that same standard of excellence. The difference in quality is obvious. While other places might offer lower-grade materials, OK Lumber consistently provides top-tier wood. Yes, you might pay a little more, but you truly get what you pay for--quality, reliability, and service you can trust. What really makes the experience special, though, is the people. It's not just a transaction--they take the time to get to know you and your business. After a while, they're greeting you by your first name, and that kind of relationship is rare these days. If you're looking for more than just a place to buy materials--if you want quality products and a team that genuinely values your business--this is the place to go. I highly recommend. Joe

But candidly, I didn't think too much about it. I guess fixtures don't excite me too much, or perhaps I was distracted with other things. Fast forward to 2026. A tub faucet broke, and I went to DPS to see how to get a replacement. Marcus was incredibly nice and efficient, basically saying "leave this with me." He tracked down the supplier, contacted them, advocated for me, and the next thing you know, a brand new replacement arrives in the mail. I was incredibly impressed with DPS and Marcus, and also appreciate the manufacturer - California Faucets - for standing by their products. Based on this experience, I'd recommend DPS to anyone.

And it's a hardware store, not an auto parts store. Not a sushi restaurant. Not a coffee shop. I've frequented this establishment a dozen times and have had a consistently satisfying experience. They've always had what I was looking for and have always been super pleasant. Variety of small tools, hardware, and housewares as well. If you're on the Avenue and have a minute take a tour and see how they're stocked. Definitely should be the first stop for locals or local businesses. Just to be clear, we were not looking to install wall to wall carpeting (although I'm fairly sure they perform this service) or to find finished area rugs. California Carpets has a good selection, but it's a little like shopping at the Nordstrom rack. You have to be willing to put in the time to look through aisles and aisles of stuff. Ultimately we found what we wanted. The great thing also was that it was on a roll for a very expensive carpet but which was discounted because they only had a few more square feet left. That being said, the edging was not included and was not cheap. Overall, I recommend this place because there aren't many like it on the Peninsula. The staff was professional and they have a good selection. Just be prepared to spend a lot of time looking for what you want. To be fair, I think that's what it would be like anywhere that has a large selection of carpet to choose from.

Like so many others I have had a horrible experience with California Carpets! I wish I had read…read morethese reviews before I did business with them. The salesman talked up "100% wool carpet" and it has been a nightmare since it was installed. For starters it sheds like crazy, even months after install. You have to use a very special expensive vacuum for the carpet which the salesman (MARK) NEVER told us. And now it's hard to believe but the carpet is damaged from a plastic chair cover we purchased to PROTECT the carpet! Believe it or not the plastic over the carpet created some sort of heat and condensation, so the carpet got wet and completely disintegrated. Who ever heard of wet carpet falling apart? And whoever heard of carpet not being treated so it can withstand some water? And no one EVER told us not to put a plastic chair cover on the carpet. We were trying to protect it from rolling chairs and now it's ruined! They took no responsibility. After several complaints they came to our house, took a few pictures and said they would submit a claim with the manufacturer because they are not responsible. They only "install and sell" the carpet but then act like they are not responsible! I kept asking for the status of the claim and they finally got back to me and said simply "claim denied"! I then asked how can I get the carpet repaired because I certainly can't live with this and they have never replied. I'm going to file a claim with the BBB and consumer advocate sites. It's so clear that they completely rip off the customers and don't care a bit about customer satisfaction. They have not heard the last of me.

I came here a month ago to pick up chicken feed with my toddler. I sat her down and turned aside for 20 seconds to lift the feed bag, and then noticed she was standing next to an open bag surrounded by loose pellets. I looked closer and realized this was open, loose rat poison. Yikes! The bags say to handle with heavy gloves and to keep from pets and children. At least one is an anti-coagulant rodenticide - very bad for a child to get into. I would never had expected to come across loose poison littering the floor while shopping, and I might have easily assumed it was just loose feed if I hadn't noticed the packaging. I told the person at the register but they did not seem concerned. I probably should have impressed upon him further the danger of keeping these open bags with spilled contents on the floor of the customer area, but I was also worried that my daughter may have handled/eaten some in the moment I was turned away, and I wanted to leave quickly to tend to that possibility. A month has passed and I stopped by for more feed. The same open bags with same spilled poison are still littering the floor. This seems dangerously negligent on Robert's part. There are many things to like about this store, and I'd much rather be writing about those. Please clean up this dangerous and irresponsible mess before someone's service dog or child is harmed.
