This place is awful. From the unfriendly hostess to the terrible waiter to the most uncomfortable booths and the food. Omg it was awful. When we were first seated by the hosted with a frown we were greeted by the worst waiter. He took are drink order and we said we would also like the pretzel. He came back with the drinks and took our food order. He came back another 17 minutes later and asked us "I forgot, did you want to order the pretzel?" Omg. We also asked for the gravy on the side. Did we get that? Hell no. The gravy sucks a$$! All the food was terrible. After we choke down as much ( which was very little) then out comes the " appetizer pretzel". LMFAO! We said we don't want it now. Then he says the pretzel takes longer to cook then the schnitzel - what a lier. read more

Make sure you read the menu for yourself before you order anything with white asparagus. They are $5 per spear and you will not be told about it up front. Food was ok, nothing to brag about. The ham hock tasted like it went from a couple of months of being in the freezer directly to the deep fryer. Apple strudel was terrible. Apple was not cooked all the way and it was over spiced. Their menu advertised 6 veal-filled pasta pockets, but we got 5. The waiter told us it was different because we were looking at the lunch menu, but it was not true. The menu we were made scan ran from 11a-3:45p. We came in at about 2p. The manager was attentive, apologetic and offered to give us a free dessert but we declined. We just wanted him to know about our experience. This is our 2nd and probably last time coming here. First time was great, but those were different times. Overall, I think this place is overpriced. $28 for a ham hock and $5 asparagus spears are a bit excessive. As people try to resume their lives, and support local businesses, restaurants need to ensure they provide quality service and meals if they're going to charge top dollar. I just finished up my leftovers from BG this morning for breakfast. Don't judge, it's MINE! My pack met there last Saturday to celebrate spring with their glorious Spring Menu. There was too much to choose from and I wanted everything I saw. A few of my party had not been before and were happy about how charming the interior is. Disregard that it is tucked away within a strip mall, this is the best German food I've ever had this side of the globe. At 1130, we were not the only big party, so we stalled for time by ordering two sets of potato pancakes. The delicious, gotta be homemade rolls were brought out with butter. I tried to split with my friend A but she loves bread so I was left eating the crusty parts completed with butter. My favorites are the multi seed and pretzel breads. The potato pancakes were dense and filled with bacon, sprinkled with chives and two small cups of sour cream and apple sauce. I love mine dipped into the apple sauce. Everyone ordered either the sausage plates, Jaegerschnitzel, pork chop and I split my leg of lamb with A. There is a $4.50 charge for splitting a meal but it also includes an extra side so we ended up getting the spaeztle (say speht-zel), sauteed fresh spinach and mixed salad. My friends had never tried Jaegerschnitzel but that's my 2nd favorite meal here so they opted for it. The pork chop and lamb took a little extra time but we don't come here often so we still wanted it. After a bit of a wait, keeping in mind it's all made to order, the platters of food arrived. It was fantastic! The kraut and red cabbage were divine, it's all good with the food we ordered. Of course everyone sampled off of each others plates but that's the point! Our lamb rested in a decadent gravy with mushrooms, the spaetzle was good even with just salt & pepper, the spinach had tons of fresh garlic and sweet red pepper and I think I ate or took home everyone's mixed veggie salad. Everything was tender and delicious! We had so much food left over that I took a big container of leftovers home. As the toy train circled the dining area at the ceiling, I regretfully declined dessert and coffee as we were in a time crunch. They have a ton of beers, wines from Germany. The owner is always on hand helping out and welcoming patrons. As I said, it's the best German I've had since my last trip in November there - and it won't be the last. So what are you waiting for? Go there, get some, it may be a drive but I promise it is well worth the effort! read more

We came here for lunch and really enjoyed it! The decor and overall ambiance is so welcoming. There's a little toy train that circles the restaurant and it's delightfully charming. It's like walking into someone's home and the size of this place is great for large parties. I'm gluten free (allergy) and I'm so impressed at the options and level of care they took with my food. First of all, they bring you a little loaf of gluten free bread to the table provided by a local gf bakery. It's warm and deliciously soft and unlike most times, I wasn't left out of the pre-meal bread. I had the roast beef and horseradish cream sauce with mashed potatoes and veggies. The beef was tender and they gladly brought me raw horseradish for the extra kick. The mashed potatoes were some of the creamiest and tastiest I've had in awhile and the veggies were cooked to perfection. My boyfriend had the 2 sausage plate with potato pancakes and kraut. He loved one of the sausages, but the others were burnt. His biggest complaint was the potato pancake. He said they was dense and more pancake than potato, but he really liked my mashed potatoes! Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves here. The only reason this place didn't get 5/5 is the service could have been significantly better. Found this unique restaurant on a road trip and loved it. We shared the Wurst Platte which had 5 different sausages, each one flavorful and unique. Schwerin Schnitzel was perfectly toasted and sides full of flavor. We do like to find places that surprise us and this was added as a must stop next time we are in the area. The beer selection was extensive and we ended up purchasing 12 beers to go for our destination. They had flights to sample as well. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about the beers they carried. The owner came by and chatted with us making sure everything was satisfactory which it was. While we were there a few locals came in just for a beer and they all knew each other. Many beer club steins cover the walls as I'm certain this place has a following. I wouldn't be surprised if we go up during Octoberfest and stay close by so we can Uber! Loved this place. read more

Ahmad, are you paying attention? 5 stars! I love German food, and there is none in Abilene. We try German everywhere we go and this ranks around the top. In the back of an older shopping mall, it was a little hard to find for out of towners. The decor was definitely of an older restaurant, and we loved it. My Jäger schnitzel and red cabbage were wonderful. The warm potato salad was some of the best I've had. Glenda's trout and creamy spinach were fantastic. But the star of the meal was some kind of potato dish that was oven baked. It was so good, I want that recipe! Meals come with complimentary bread. No room for dessert. We had been fans at the previous location. We have been to this restaurant twice since the move, but we are no longer fans. The beer garden is no longer open communal seating but just merely an extension of the main dining area. Totally devoid of a beer garden atmosphere or a beer hall. Service was not good either. Service was a little slow but given the current server shortage it wasn't that bad. For an appetizer I had the potato pancakes. They were ok but very dense. My mother was from Germany so I was hopi g they were more like hers, light and fluffy. I had the Rinder Rouladen mit Spätzle oder Backofenkartoffeln und Rahm Spinat and the meat was phenomenal!!!! Incredibly clean and well decorated restaurant. Friendly and competent staff - they work together as a team to make sure your beverages are full and your food gets out hot. An incredible selection of German beers. I fell in love with Hacker-Pschorr Dunkel while in Munich and this is the only place I have found in the US that has it. SO good. As to the food - can't say enough good things - The Spaetzle was above average - flavorful, large portion and filling, it could have used a little more cheese. The Sauerbraten was delicious and tender. The Schweinshaxe was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Crispy pork skin on the outside, well rendered fat and tender lean meat on the inside. Gravy was a perfect complement. The surprise was the little oven baked potato casserole covered with cheese. Wonderful flavor (might be a bit peppery for some - but we loved it) and the cheese was crisp which was a nice texture contrast with the potatoes. Now we are in a quandary - next time we crave great German food - we have to choose between flying to Munich or to Plano. read more

But the world is cruel and nobody should work to live, so one cannot come spend every penny on beer and sausage platters. The decor is very reminiscent of an old school diner crossed with your relative's mid-80s blue wallpaper. We still finished the plate regardless. **Fried Brie: 4.25/5.00 - Literally a wedge of brie cheese battered and fried golden brown. I really enjoy updating a review after a two star review 6 years ago. This visit was a great experience. We arrived around 1115a on a Saturday and were promptly seated. Lovely Mikayla was our server, dressed in a "dirndl", traditional clothing worn by women in Bavaria, who quickly greeted us with a smile to take our drink orders. One Pinot Grigio and one Pilsner beer, don't recall the name. Each of us already had an idea of what we wanted so didn't need to review the large menu. I order the Breaded sauteed Filet of Trout w/red cabbage and a potato pancake. The big guy ordered the Grilled Salmon Filet with assorted sauteed veges medley First that basket of rolls is delivered; pumpernickel, white roll, onion garlic roll & pretzel roll. Only had one small bite of one of the rolls, saving my appetite for the meal to come. We enjoyed our libations while watching the little toy train make its rounds throughout the dining areas on a ledge just below the ceiling. Such a nice touch, quiet ambiance, with what feels like authentic German decor; makes one feel as if you are in a German home. Wow, here come the entrees; nice presentations, hot food w/accompanying sour cream and applesauce for the pancakes. Absolutely delicious, generous servings of the cabbage and trout; one large pancake, sprinkled with chopped green onions. The Trout was nicely sauteed, moist w/the butter sauce and seasonings. That red cabbage is some of the best I've enjoyed anywhere, even in the German town of Muenster up north. I had a very filling meal with enough left to travel home for lunch the following day. I was able to snag a bite of the Grilled Salmon, and it was very good; moist, well seasoned and also a very generous serving. My dining companion cleaned his plate. KUDOS to Mikayla for her outstanding service, she was always prompt and attentive but not intrusive; most accommodating for special requests, i.e. more lemon, butter. The owner (I believe) stopped by to check on our dining experience. That's always impressive. Very reasonable pricing; each of our entrees were just under $10; drinks also fairly priced. Always in for a schnitzel. My wife had the zigeuner schnitzel and I had the Schwammer'l schnitzel. The sauces were excellent. The schnitzels tasted good, but were a bit thin for our liking. I don't eat German food very often, but when I do... Came here with a co-worker to try some German food and we were not disappointed! The Jaeger Schnitzel is very good and nicely breaded. The fish comes with some sort of doughy pasta like tidbits which were my least favorite part of the meal. Anyways the meat was tasty and generously portioned. We also ordered a sausage sampler which was pretty good. I'm not a huge sausage person so it was ok. I also tried a beet salad that was excellent and very unique. The veggies were dressed in a vinegarette that I had not come across before and I really enjoyed it. Took clients to lunch today. The food was tolerable. The waiter started off nice. Took orders then when delivering plates of food to my client, the waiter dumps the liquid in the plate on my client's lap. "Opps" is all we got from the waiter. Then my lunch was 10 minutes late because of something about the spinach not ready in the Kitchen. If you want additional rolls while I am waiting, that costs $$. Although there was four of us, you get the same basket of rolls if there was only one person or four. I'm still sitting waiting for my lunch. About the time everybody was finishing up, my plate arrives. The waiter was very arrogant and not caring about how bad he was. Must be a German thing. We're not going back. Other restaurants are very accommodating. Not here. You get two stars only because the food was actually eatable. read more

After several raging endorsements from our close friends, we decided to come here for dinner. My parents were in town and thought they'd enjoy some authentic German food (my father being station in Germany for several years). They thoroughly enjoyed it. However, a couple of considerations when coming here with a large family: be prepared to spend about $25-30 per adult; for a partly 6 or greater, 20% gratuity; AND waiting a lllloooonnnnnggggg time ( 2 hrs from the time we walked in to walking out).... our food was warm, not hot as expected. Now, 20% gratuity is pretty typical... however when it's mandatory, what's the incentive for good service? We had to ask several times for our waiter to come refill our drinks or to ask questions about our order. Most likely we won't return... but it was an adequate dinner experience. read more

Recommended by friends who go twice a month. Service lacking: only 4 servers on a crowded Saturday afternoon. Wife ordered chicken salad. It came with a half-ashtray of chicken (3 small pieces), a couple of grapes and some kind of sauce. Lettuce? It came in a wine goblet (I kid you not) complete with stem. We had to ask for a bowl to mix. It was starvation size. Daughter couldn't find anything without pork (ethical, not religious reason), so ordered trout. It was overgrilled and SALTY. Some nondescript vegetables loitering around. I got a Bamberger schnitzel-ditzel kind of sausage and potato salad--all of which turned out to be a full ashtray of 4-5 slices of potato and (I think) slices of carrots, all in a sauce. Totally inedible. I made a stab at it. The sausage was no more than two large ballpark franks. We got mixed fresh vegetables: 3 canned veggies (beans, cabbage, beets) and spoiled tomatoes and runny cucumbers. For this slop I paid 50+ dollars and spent two hours. The waitress was a sweetheart from Mexico and did her best. I tipped 20%. read more
