The food was very good and authentic. My mother-in-law is from Stuttgart and absolutely loved the food. However, I agree with the other reviews,the food is good, but the service is really slow. The servers are very busy and overwhelmed. We had a party of 9, but not a needy group and dinner took about 3 hours, which was at least an hour too long. Finally got to go to the new location for Bavarian Grill. I think they did an excellent job of keeping the same ambiance as the original restaurant. Thankfully the food is just as good as it always was. I had the Rouladen with German potato salad and red cabbage. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. Professional service, had wonderful suggestions and got all of our orders out quickly and correctly. Ambiance was very distinct: plenty of wall decorations and furniture which seemed to be appropriate to Bavaria (not sure myself, but judging by all the details in everything else--including a German menu--I would assume so). Overall experience was just okay. Bratwurst was good but the Goulash was very sour/salty/ hard to describe. That's a taste preference I guess. Maybe it's cooked with wine ? "Tossed salad" is not what you would expect either. It is a very vinegary assortment of beets, cabbage, cucumbers and tomatoes. If you like that flavor then you're fine, we were just surprised by it. I didn't just enjoy it I loved every bite. Bavarian Grill was everything I had hoped for and more. When I first discovered they had Rouladen I knew it was a must try. Absolutely my favorite and this really, really good. Rouladen or Rinderrouladen is a German meat dish, usually consisting of bacon, onions, mustard and pickles wrapped in thinly sliced beef which is then cooked to pure perfection. It was soooooo tender and very flavorful. The spatzle was amazing and the Bavarian potatoes and spinach were the perfect compliment. I couldn't resist the Rotkohl, red sauerkraut and it was delicious. The question that begs itself to be answered....is what took me so long? Thanks YELP! Ps....dessert----Waldbeeren Torte mot Schlag, light sponge cake topped with vanilla creme and juicy blend of blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries is an absolute must. We had this to go as it was near our hotel. My husband loves German food. I am generally not a huge fan. This surprised me in the best way! Everything we got was delicious! It wish I remembered the names of what we ate! I had a pasta dish with ham, mushrooms and a cheese sauce. My husband had a schnitzel with mushroom sauce. SO GOOD! I also ordered the oven potatoes which were delicious but too spicy for me. Although I ate more than usual would - I am a baby about spice - but they were good enough to ignore the spice for a bit. My husband had a beer while he waited on the food. It was a dark beer the bartender recommended. He said it was one of the tastiest beers he has ever had! I had a veal schnitzel and it was cooked perfectly. The entire menu was diverse and my entire family enjoyed their choices. I was not happy with the price tag of my pretzel appetizer ($10) but that was my fault for not asking. The waitress was soooo great and I am ashamed of myself for not getting her name. The food is good, but verify the pricing with the staff as they will charge you an extremely high amount. They are charging more than DOUBLE for some of the food they are serving. And the menus are on their website, so, be sure you VERIFY the price of the food you are eating. Our waiter SUCKED and we had NO problem leaving him a $2 tip. Even the owner was very dismissive when we asked about the pricing when we received our bill. The online menu can be confusing, but we were told time and again to only look at the menu presented on one of their pages (both times we went here). For our 5th wedding anniversary, we chose to support Bavarian Grill in Plano. --Ordering: We called in our order at around 6pm. They were beginning to get very busy already by the sounds of it. By the time we arrived at 6:50pm, their line was busy, busy, busy. No getting through. Their online menu is HUGE and a little overwhelming because it's all in German but they do a great job of describing it all in English. --The restaurant: Though admittedly I did not go in, it looked REALLY cool. My wife went in and she said there was live music and guys in lederhosens. They had traditional German decor. Nothing fancy but very cool. --The Food: I'm writing them all in English because there's no way I'm going to get the German right! The one observation I had was that almost nothing was salted enough for my particular palate but I also can live off a salt lick so take that with a grain of salt (pun intended). - Ham Hock with red cabbage and some sort of bread dumpling - Rouladen with spaetzle and lemon spinach - Potato pancakes with sour cream and apple sauce - Brat Sampler with German potato salad and sauerkraut The winner for me personally was the ham hock as a full cohesive meal. It was fried well to crisp leaving the meat inside VERY tender. The caraway sauce was interesting. Akin to a traditional brown gravy with the hint of caraway. The red cabbage tasted pickled and was SO good. The bread dumpling egg shaped thing was sort of strange and tasteless but not terrible. The rouladen is the rolled meat and it was delicious! It is stuffed with pickles, bacon, and some other thing and it's to be served with this brown sauce that was SO DELICIOUS! The rouladen was fall apart tender and was slightly tangy. Great dynamic in flavor. The spaetzle was pretty traditional served with a brown mushroom gravy. Nothing to write home about. The spinach was really good! Lemony and creamy. Highly recommend. The potato pancakes were delicious! Crisp and very eggy--different from Russian and Polish latkas but very good. Paired well with the sour cream and the apple sauce! Yum! The brat sampler was awesome! There was about 5 different brats in there including traditional bratwurst, smoked bratwurst, knackwurst, and some other thing I can't figure out. For the most part, the knackwurst ones (pale in color) were well seasoned but lacking salt which I thought was interesting! There was one that looked like a giant hotdog or a little kielbasa and one that had a wrinkly casing and those were my favorites because it wasn't super herbaceous and salty. The German potato salad was flat out GOOD. It's different in that it was slightly sweet and served with bacon. And for those that don't know, German potato salad is traditionally served warm. The kraut...you can't go wrong with kraut. Overall, I would go back and try their schnitzels for sure and would definitely go back for some of the items we had tonight. It was our first time and the two of us were looking forward to it. When we were seated, our waiter explained the menu to us. He gave us beer suggestions, which we ordered and liked. He explained the different schnitzel dishes and suggested a couple. We placed our order and waited, and waited, and waited.....for 50 minutes! I watched 3 other tables get seated and get their food while we still were waiting. I asked the waiter twice where our food was and his response each time was that it was Saturday and it was always slow.I mentioned the other tables being served and he just shrugged his shoulders......never an apology. When we received our food, it was hot and tasted OK. We had wanted to try their desserts, but we asked for them to-go since we had been there so long. He still never apologized even when he brought the bill. We tried the desserts when we got home and my husband's Black Forest Cake was pretty good. My Bienenstich cake was very dry and tasteless. I have finally found a authentic German Restaurant in Texas. I never realized how much I missed eating German food until we moved back to Texas. I met my husband in Karlsruhe Germany 26 years ago while he was in the military. I can still remember the taste of the Pomme Frittes (French Fries) and JagerSchnitzel. The gravy in Germany is out of this world and I have not found a place that compares. Fast forward to Bavarian Grill, I read some of the reviews which includes a few from my friends who have been to Germany or were stationed there so I knew I had to try this place. Unfortunately, my review is for takeout but I definitely want my next visit to be dine in. My husband and I both ordered JagerSchnitzel, spatzle and potato salad. They accidentally gave my husband two servings of spatzle and forgot about potato salad but no complaints. Our meal also came with rolls. My husband and I both enjoyed our meal and we will be back again to try other dishes and sample their beer. Germany holds many memories for us but it's nice to know that I have Bavarian Grill when I get the craving for real German Food. Great ambiance, family friendly, and definitely entertaining. We got a table for four with very little wait Saturday night. They had an accordion player come in at 7 and was a hit! The place was super fun. The bread is phenomenal, the servers are nice, and they have a toy train that circles around the room. But we waited over 30 min just for the bread basket, and over an hour for our dishes, smh. Too big an issue to rate higher than three stars.
