Lots of potential here but subpar experience... We came for cocktails, and Baus has a really cute space underneath their barber shop for a unassuming cocktail bar in Downtown Rochester. With a pretty eclectic cocktail menu and what appeared to be a well thought out cocktail program, unfortunately our drinks missed the mark. From the current menu, we got the Life of Pablo, their take on a spicy pineapple and cantaloupe margarita, and the Buena Vida, a mezcal cocktail. Both looked very appetizing on the menu but when the drinks came, they were overly sweet and seemed to be made with artificial sugary juices rather than ingredients for nice cocktails. Our server, who seemed to be the only one working the entire bar, was helpful and the space is definitely cute, but their recipes need a little more love. As an FYI: There are parking spaces with meters right outside that you can park at for 20 minutes max, or there's a parking garage across the street where the first hour is free. They also have a 10am-6pm happy hour :) And if it's your first visit in, they give you a [sugary] welcome shot! read more

Vibes! The music is loud, but also expected. The recent remodel is refreshing, way more seating. The fully stocked bars gives plenty of options for every taste, and the changing menu is always fun. I have been going to Baus in Birmingham, MI for a couple years. My stylist left and hadn't found anyone just yet to replace her. I have longer hair for a guy so it's not a typical buzz cut. Last Friday, I went to Baus, in Rochester and had a fantastic experience. First off, it's half a bar and the other half is barber shop. So drinks are flowing games are on. BUT more importantly I found my stylist! Alejandra was incredible to work with. She took her time, listened and absolutely rocked my haircut! I'll be back, this is my new spot and Alejandra is the bomb!! read more

Think small basement club vibe and it's about what Baus is like for drinks. It's loud, it's dark and the drinks are okay. I tried the pop off cocktail which came with a pop rocks smear on the side and was okay. I would love to see them add a true mocktail menu as well. If it's your birthday, you can order one of the party platters and be showered with bubbles, it seemed pretty popular as it happened three or four times during the four and a half we were there. A cute spot that makes good use of a salon space after hours but don't go if you're looking to talk to the people you're with. read more

The best new bar in Rochester. I visited this location twice in one week thanks to the great reviews. This hidden gem is actually very well branded and easy to find off Fourth Street. You will likely see the barber chairs through the window before you'll see the bar. The cool lower level shop is refreshing on a hot summer day. The first time I went was late on a weeknight and the second was on a weekend. Never packed though that may soon end as more people discover this sweet spot. The bar is modern and minimalist. My favorite thing about Baus are the well crafted cocktails from one particular bartender, Danny. He is friendly and welcoming while I can't say the same for all of the staff. He makes killer drinks and actually listens to his customers cocktail preferences. You can tell he has fun with the cocktail creations. The drinks are expensive and made with love (to the tune of $15 per drink). We were told there is daily happy hour though from 10-6 and drinks are $11 then. The bar is well curated and has a nice variety of spirits to appease even the toughest cocktail critics. Can't wait to go back! read more

What a funky idea! My girls and I stopped in last winter time for their Christmas cocktails - they had been trending on TikTok so we had to give it a try. The bar is in a hair studio - which I think is an amazing idea for using the space and giving their clients a unique experience. The Christmas cocktails were beautiful. I got a boozy Nutella hot chocolate cocktail, which was absolutely delicious. I think it was so smart to create Christmas cocktails, especially in the Rochester area with the beautiful Christmas lights. Additionally, I had a group of about nine girls with me that night, and they were able to accommodate us as walk ins. Can I say LOVE!!!! Wow, what an incredible experience at Baus. We were out celebrating in Rochester and my friend recommended Baus. He knows I love new spots and cool craft drinks. Baus was most certainly my kind of place. Linda was our bartender and I can't begin to tell you how fantastic she was. We had a blast talking to her and she made the best drinks hands down. I would put Baus up against the best cocktail menus around. The drinks are pricy, but you most certainly get what you pay for. At Baus it's an experience from the moment you walk in the door. As a college student, this was such a different experience as I normally have. I went with a couple of my friends just to grab a beer. There are some tables you can sit in but only with reservation. We got there and there was a 45 minute wait for them. We were only planning on being there 30 minutes so we didn't get the chance to try them. One of the bartenders came up to us asked us what we wanted to drink, which was much easier than having to wait at the bar and needing to wave for somebody to take your order. The places does look a bit small, specially since it's an actual barber (I suppose) so 1/3 of the places is closed because of that. read more

What a find! I have never heard of this spot but he wanted to check it out. When we walked in, we weren't sure what to think! It is a high end barber shop. There were people in a huge glass cube getting facials and beard trims. Then there is a huge bar. We asked how this worked and the bartender quickly greeted us and helped us choose drinks. Apparently you don't need to get their services in order to enjoy a drink there. But I know he would enjoy some pampering so I will schedule him a day to be pampered. In the mean time he ordered an old fashioned which he said was the best old fashioned he had ever had! That says a lot since that is his go to drink. I got a couple of different drinks. One was lavender and the other, I'm not sure. This was a great place and great atmosphere and company. We will definitely be back! read more

Such an amazing "hidden gem" in Downtown Rochester! I just turned 21 so I wanted to find a fun place to get craft cocktails and hangout. Little did I know this charming bar existed so close to my house! The bartender was very knowledgeable and helpful. He sparked up conversation and made delicious cocktails. You can tell he's passionate about this bar and making sure anyone who comes in has a great experience. I also love that it doubles as a barber shop! "I think it's closed..." REST ASSURED, it is not. Barber by day and bar by night, yes... you read that right. While I can't account for the barber side of the house, the bar was a hit! I had heard of this place and thought it was a cool concept. Barber by day, bar by night. Decided to check it out this past Saturday night with the hubby and a friend. Wasn't expecting this place to be so packed! There was a little bit of a wait for the 3 of us but no problem, the hostess was so sweet and we were seated in no time. They have a few lounge areas for groups as well as a dj playing behind a glass partition where I'm assuming is the barber shop part of the place. Drinks were on the pricier side but you get what you pay for, these are definitely hand crafted drinks and the bartenders know what their doing. We tried a couple of drinks on the menu and all were delicious. My favorite was the Cut Throat, not too sweet and just the right amount of tart. Overall we had a great experience here. read more

Drinks are ok, but a bit over priced. The odd thing is, they call it a barber shop but not one of them are an actual licensed barber. Hilarious, it's like a court secretary calling themselves a Lawyer. The cosmetologist/stylist might do a good job and when I visited were nice people. But the fact none are barbers is misleading. Baus Salon, Baus Grooming etc would be better. read more

My engaged friend said that they originally looked at Royal Park as a wedding venue, but unfortunately the conservatory wasn't large enough for their number of guests - I'm glad they had their engagement dinner there, so I got to experience it. There were about 30 guests there last night but the space looked like it could fit more, I would guess 40-50 total, easily, and possibly even more. The Mac n cheese looked like it came from a box of Kraft and the service was abysmal. I've said my goodbyes to this place, it was fun for a minute but that minute is gone.

Jake is a current registered child registered sex offender who is a current employee at the Hamlin Pub in the downtown Rochester area. Jake was charged with having sensually charged contact with a minor under the age of 18. Jake was involved some time back in a sting operation ran by none other than Chris Hansen, which led to his initial charges and current status as a child sex offender.
